This was a fun read, with good art. I didn't realize it was a story divided into short little chapters, like vignettes almost. Even though the titular character is a vampire, there's not much fang action on the page.

This series is like no other I've read. Sure, it can be compared, and even found similar to others, but in the end there is some unidentifiable quality to it that has made it my favorite.

It's a fun and light read without being shallow, frivolous, or goofy. The characters are lovable, and the art is nice. If you like manga, give it a try.

A powerful vampire lord is resurrected but things are not what he expected when he escapes his cross imprisonment.

Guilt-na-Zan, after being improsioned inside of a cross for over 100 years discovers upon returning to the mortal coil that his spirit has been infused inside a wax (or so it is claimed) mannequin now appearing as a young women with super curly drill like hair (seriously...this was a big hair choice in anime for a bit) and the one responsible for his return turns out to be none other the descendent of the man that imprisoned him in the first place! Now in this new form Guilt-na-chan (as renamed by the super innocent sister of his oppressor Kyoji) is forced to work for Kyoji or be returned to his isolated prison but perhaps it is not a bad deal as he also gets a chance to see how life as a sorta normal person can experience it.

All in all the manga has a lot of characters that look very similiar and can often times be as silly even going so far as to explain the Doll Guilt has been bonded to is based on the appearance of Kyoji's sister Tonae and that the brother of Kyoji is his actual twin. Sprinkled lightly with quickly introduced backgrounds, interesting (often flawed) characters, and a story as random as it can be fun the story of this unusual addition to the family is sure to get stranger from here on out.

Also if the story is not enough silly for you be sure to check out the 4 panel comics to fill us in on little things outside of the normal story bits as well as the occasional strange facts added (though at the time of the books printing larger pages were shrunk down making some words harder to read instead of computers.) :)

I can’t believe it’s been over a decade since I last read this series. Whilst I really don’t remember a whole lot, I do remember how amusing I found the series to be, and reading this tankabon I remember really liking these characters.

Guilt-Na is so adorable and Vincent is a lovely side kick, you can tell even in this short time what good friends they are.

I really like the drawing style used here, I say that about all of the manga that I read pretty much but I do really like the aesthetic.

I’m looking forward to reading on, especially now that I have the sixth and final volume!

The story and art didn't interest me, and I'm pretty good with sticking with the series if I'm even a little hesitant.

Vampire Doll: Guilt-na-Zan Story & Art By Erika Kari

Official Synopsis:
Guilt-na-Zan is a vampire aristocrat who has been sealed into a cross for more than 100 years. When he is released by Kyoji - a powerful exorcist from the family that first banished the vampire-Guilt-na-Zan is resurrected as a female doll and can only transform into his real figure when he sucks blood from Kyoji's sister Tonae. But this undead tale has a gender-bending twist, and when you add some Goth clothes on some even hotter vampires, slowly but surely everyone will start to feel like one big family!

Genres: Horror, Comedy, Paranormal, Vampires, & Gothic
Book Style: Manga (Japanese Comics - Read Right to Left)

I decided to read Vampire Doll: Guilt-na-Zan Story & Art By Erika Kari Vol.1 because I've haven't read this book since I was in Middle School/Junior High and I wanted to see if I still liked it. Once I started reading I fell in love because it's so original than any Vampire story I've ever read! This story follow a Vampire named Guilt-na-Zan who gets sealed into a cross by Kyoji - a powerful exorcist then 100 or more years later he get released from the cross by Kyoji to become Kyoji's servant as a female wax doll and his vampire powers are all girly (for example: flowers and plushies). Later we find out that Kyoji has a sister named Tonae who's blood can make Guilt-na-Zan turn back into his normal vampire form for 10 minutes (which he has his normal vampire powers back) and that he has a twin brother named Kyoichi who wants all the supernatural creatures in Kyoji's sealed crosses. Eventually Guilt-na-Zan bestfriend Vincent who is a hybrid of a Bat and Human gets released from a cross to help out with the strange things that keeps happening around the Yotobari family. More characters get unveiled later in the story too. I really loved the gender-bending idea to a Vampire story because it gives more character development to Guilt-na-Zan's character and learning how to live as a female and male. My favorite characters so far are Guilt-na-Zan, Tonae, and Vincent because I love their friendship between each character and I think that maybe Guilt-na-Zan and Tonae might end up dating if there isn't any other female characters added to the story. One of my favorite parts in the story is when Kyoichi comes to take Kyoji's sealed crosses but it ends up reuniting Vincent and Guilt-na-Zan and Kyoichi finding out Guilt-na-Zan is already resurrected and his brothers maid. Kyoichi gets so mad and we find out how both twin brothers act when their together which is so funny! I love the art style because it's Gothic Lolita/Gothic Romance mixed together as one which is very beautiful! I love this book and I can't wait to read Vampire Doll: Guilt-na-Zan Story & Art By Erika Kari Vol.2 to see what other supernatural vampire like events happen and if Guilt-na-Zan becomes his normal vampire self! I would recommend this book to vampire fans or people who love horror comedies!

100 years ago, an exorcist locked vampire lord Guilt-Na-Zan into a cross. Today, exorcist Kyoji, a descendent of the first one, releases Guilt-na. And puts him into a female wax doll, with the intention of using Guilt-na as a maid. It is possible for Guilt-na to attain his original form; if he drinks the blood of Kyoji's sister Tonae, he becomes the lord of the night once more. Add in a bat/human, a stupid younger brother, a little action and a lot of laughs, and there you have Vampire Doll.
This has suprisingly, a lot of plot, for 200 pages of first volume. There's a fight between Kyoji and his idiotic younger brother Kyoichi, we meet batman Vincent who turns out to be the friend of Guilt-Na-Zan, we meet a creature who sucks the evilness from others and leaves them civil and nice to others, and we get the insanity of life in Kyoji's house.
The storyline isn't your normal vampire story. There's elements of one, such as something to defeat them (the original exorcist) and requiring human blood for something (Guilt-na an Tonae), but there's also some original stuff too.
It's rare to have character intros in a first volume. This book does. And they're pretty fun too: the name, one of their characteristics and then a plea to read this book to find out x. Funny from the first page.
The actual manga starts with a flashback to when Guilt-na-zan was first trapped. It then goes to his resurrection, his discovery he is in a female body and then his realisation his magical powers now only stretch to flowers and cakes. And then the aforementioned things happen and so does some more stuff until we reach a fitting conclusion that can still make you want to read volume 2.
Tokyopop classed this as a horror and comedy. The horror part wasn't that accurate-just because it has vampires and other dark creatures, it doesn't necessarily make it a horror story. The comedy on the other hand is a very large part of this. From the first page it was funny, and this continued throughout the entire book. In addition to the humour throughout the main story, we also get bonus strip at the end of each chapter and about 12 more at the back.
The characters were different to your normal stock cast of a vampire tale. They're all very likeable, but there's very little in the way of character development.
The art is detailed and realistic. The costumes are drawn well, as are all the little things. However in a couple of places it's hard making out what's happening because the lines blend so much into the shadows.

Overall: Strength 4 tea to a vampire story that will make you laugh if not much else.

1st volume of this 6 book gothic Lolita vampire comedy series.

Guilt-Na-Zan the king of the vampires is sealed away in a cross for 100 years by an exorcist. He's released by a pervy relative of the exorcist, who seals him in the body of a wax doll.... a FEMALE doll in the image of his sister, in order to become his housemaid. Guilt-Na can regain his own, male form for 10 minutes at a time by drinking human blood, or it would seem when there's a full moon. His powers are limited however to girlish tricks: baking cakes and manifesting flowers and cuddly toys.

This is great fun and actually pretty amusing although incredibly silly! The gothic Lolita fashions are simply fab, although the artwork itself isn't as pretty as some of the other titles in the genre. Much better than I expected and worth a look.

Vampire Doll is a very cute manga is the form of horror/comedy/uber cuteness :P. The once super mighty Guilt-na-zan has been resurrected as a little blond doll girl called Guilt-na. Will he ever get his true form back? The answer isn't in this volume, but I am inclined to keep reading on to find out.
I found all the characters so adorabe in this manga, and the art was great too. Vincent is my favorite :). I think the storyline, plot, and development were on par as well. I will most likely be seeing if my library has other volumes of this available, as this was originally an impulse pick up for a super vampire fan who has been dipping her toe into the manga well.
I recommend this for fans of vampires and lighter fare with great characters.

I read this series a few years back, but completely forgotten the plot. So when I bought the last 3 volumes of the series I felt I had to reread to even know what was going on.
I forgot how much I enjoyed this series. It's so silly and crazy, I just enjoyed reading it. All the characters are funny and adorable. I like that no character is completely evil or "the bad guy" it's just light and ridiculous. Yet there obviously a serious plot story under all the humor; like the story between the brothers.

Note: review is for the entire series.

This series is simply hilarious, and I love it. The way the characters interact with one another, and the situations they find themselves in, are highly amusing. But even with all the humor, there are still some nice, somewhat more serious moments which can be quite touching, such as the story of the origin of Vincent's name. I'm also quite fond of the artwork, which is extremely pretty.

There are some hilarious episodes in this manga. My only objection, however, is that when the vampire is in the female body, (his) powers are limited to creating amazing cakes, flower arrangements and cleaning. It's only when he drinks blood and returns to his original male form that he can fight. Although, (his) doll battle outfits are pretty wicked.

The art is pretty, but the story is very slap-stick silly.
It's overly outrageous and very much seems like it was written by a 12 yr old girl.
I found it irritating and over the top, and hard to believe.
The only nice thing is that the story is self-contained, no cliffhanger that means I have to buy another volume.

It was cute and funny and I love the way the fourth wall is broken. I like the bat man character best. However, it just isn't stellar so far. There is something a bit formulaic to the story. It was, however, a nice light read for when I was sick. I would like to read more but I can't see myself buying the next one new. Reading the others is not really a big priority for me.

Featuring one of the nicest vampires I've ever seen, this manga is strangely addictive. It's cute, funny, and has lots of drawings of pretty people in weird costumes. The humour can be kind of lame at times, but in general, it's pretty entertaining.

I enjoyed this a lot more than I expected to. The art can be confusing at times (mostly because all the characters are basically twins), but I enjoy the silliness and all the breaking of the fourth wall. It's a fun read.

The characters are confusing. This keeps it interesting. The story is about a vampire who transforms his soul into a human girl.

A fun, light mix of different genres. Gorgeous art and a nice balance of serious and silly plots.
