Run, Zan, Run

Rate this book
Ivy turned on her. ‘I told you I'd get you, didn't I? Well,' her next words sent shivers through Katie. ‘Tonight's the night.'

Katie is being bullied at school - and cannot get anyone to believe her. She feels frightened and alone . . . until one day when she is cornered by Ivy and her fellow bullies on the town dump. Katie is terrified, there is nowhere left to run. But suddenly, as if by magic, a girl called Zan rises from the rubbish in the dump and leaps to Katie's defense. But Zan is not willing to talk to Katie - all she wishes to do is keep her identity a secret. Slowly Katie learns the truth about Zan, and when she does, she realises Zan has much more to lose than the safety of her cardboard box. A gripping story that really brings the issue of bullying to a head.

I found this book really exciting and enjoyed reading it. I found this book and borrowed it in the National Library app and read it as a ebook. I found it as I was searching for books by Cathy Macphail who wrote this book and is one of my most favourite authors, all her books are thrilling and entertaining. However this book caught my eye when I saw the interesting and vibrant coloured cover just like all of Cathy's books. I tapped on this book and read the synopsis of it and at that moment I was captivated by it. "Ivy turned on her, 'I told you I'd get you, didn't I? Well,' her next words sent shivers through Katie. 'Tonight's the night.' " Just by reading this passage, many thoughts and questions filled my head such as "who are these two characters? ", "What is happening here? ", 'What does Ivy mean and why is she doing that? " and many other questions. As I read on, I knew that I wanted to read this book, hence I borrowed it. As expected, the book was really exciting and once I started reading it, I could not put it down, for the next few days, I would easily spend 1 to 2 hours on only reading this book. There were many times when I was left at the edge of my seat and really wanted to know what was going to happen in the next chapter or so but I could not read it anymore as if I did, I would have needed a new pair of glasses. Overall, the book was one of my most favourite books and I will probably read it a second time as I can accept the fact that the story has ended. I recommended the book to one of my friends and he does not like reading at all, but I managed to convince him to do so. I also hope that you do try reading this book and share your thoughts of it too.

I love this book, especially as one of the main characters is called Katie! I really enjoy books by Catherine MacPhail. I have read this one, and Missing. I would definitely recommend both.

I finished this book AROUND what I put, because I forgot ... Anyway, this book only took me about 5 days to read. (just reading before bed)

Another story about bullies and victims who learn to stand up to them.
The story line was engaging enough though and the characters were also likeable.

I did feel that the story wasn't that realistic, but certainly realistic enough for an early teen's mind (which is the intended age group of this book).
