A Taino man named Amanex is born on the island of Ayiti in the region of Jaragua. In 1492, the young Amanex witnesses the arrival of Christopher Columbus and the Spaniards and in horror, observes their violence and greed for gold. Amanex seeks to avenge the murder of his parents and brother at the hands of a brutal Spaniard and the safety of his wife and children as he joins a native and African revolt against the Spanish conquistadors. Amanex must use his intelligence and will to survive as the world he once knew becomes nothing more than a memory. Civilizations clash as Amanex fights for his people and the safety of his family.

I must say that this book was amazing. It helped me understand my Taino ancestry's in a clear manner. I was walking side by side with the characters thanks to the way the author created each in a very realistic manner. I would highly recommend this book.
