BETWEEN is non-stop fascinating, gory, totally Lovecraftian homage, contemporary Science Fiction, set in an isolated rural Texas unincorporated community [in that, I am kind of reminded of Stephen King's settings in unincorporated Maine townships]. A simple but agitated Homeowners Association meeting to discuss a lighting complaint becomes an incursion from another dimension ("Between") after Scientists discover the reality of teleportation! The neighbors on County Road 407 are immediately in terrible danger, both from unimaginable alien infestation and from human psychopathy in a battle to save lives--and reality as we have known it.

This is a brilliant horror read. Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believeable. Great suspense and action with wonderful world building that adds so much to the story. Can't wait to read more of these. Recommend reading.

Homeowner's Associations can be deadly. In this case, the monthly meeting turns monstrous!
This is the first book I have read by this author and found it to be well written and entertaining. Will the neighbours in this HOA manage to survive the threat together or kill each other in the process?

The second of russells books I've read and I can't wait to read the rest. There's nothing better than finding a talented author with a back catalogue. Keep up the amazing work fella.
Very reminiscent of The Mist by King, the book follows a group of townsfolk at the monthly Homeowner's Association meeting, when a man covered in severe burns is found and taken to the building. He talks about quarantines before falling unconscious again. From that moment on, total chaos ensues. Strange creatures appear from nowhere, creatures totally bizarre and ferocious wanting to kill everything in their path. The phone lines are down, cars won't start and so the folks find themselves in a desperate battle to survive not only the creatures but mad neighbours as well. No slowburn this one, it kicks off straight away as the townsfolk try and find a way of getting help. As expected, all kinds of characters, some nice, some nasty, one or two downright mad or evil, a fast, relentless pace and plenty of gruesome scenes for the more gorier fans where things just keep getting worse and worse with each chapter. Highly recommended for creature feature fans!
This is the 1st book I've read written by Russell C. Connor; he has done a great job at writing a good book; I will definitely be reading more of his books.
The story line caught my attention at the very beginning and kept me interested throughout the entire book.
I loved the characters.

This fast-paced horror is the first time I’ve read this author. I enjoyed reading the world the author created. I loved the detail of the characters and monsters.

A quick and dirty B-movie of a novel! Gory kills, mad scientists, bizarre critters, no sex but explicit language, guns, psychos, and lots of 'splosions. What's not to love? My first read from this author and I'm going to check out some of his other stuff.
Horror stories featuring creatures start out hard to believe. Monsters, other dimensions, teleportation. All are hard to accept, but accept you must if you want to enjoy a story. This was actually a fun read for me except for what some characters survived on the journey to the conclusion. There were far too many "no way in ...." well, no way anyway moments. I don't know what was in the water in that neighborhood, but the residents could sure had a high tolerance to pain. Also, the story was very predictable. As soon as the secret was revealed, the resolution and who would execute it was obvious. Motivation for what a character was doing at some points seemed kind of tough to swallow. My final problem with this book was Roberta. How many times must we endure a description of her being fat? That being said, I enjoyed the story. It moved right along with constant action. The characters were well developed, if over done somewhat. There was a small core I thought might survive and another group who were obviously not going to be around at the end. They were painfully obvious. Speaking of pain, there was a lot of it but when it came time to do something, agonizing injuries just had no impact on what people could do. Truth is, the more I write here, the more I'm thinking three stars is too generous so my thought is, read it if you want and enjoy it for what it is, an interesting, quick read. Just don't think about it too much.
When I decided to read this book , I had briefly skimmed the summary and saw something about people stuck in an HOA meeting and thought it sounded good because all neighbors do is fight with the HOA and among themselves and how awesome someone wrote a book about that. I didn't catch the part that it was sci-fi , I thought just horror, but this book turned into a story of craziness! Mind the fact that the author managed to keep along the plot line of disputing neighbors while dealing with other things was great! Very descriptive wording and mix of characters were entertaining to follow along. I will be checking out other books by Russell C. Connor for sure.
In a small town in Texas a badly burned stranger shows up at a community center. Mitch, the community's president, is now in charge of a situation that goes well beyond the scope of just the community. For what follows the burned stranger is not even close to being human....and there are lots of 'em!!
Great book with characters that you will absolutely love and hate as well as creatures that would make even Livecraft himself squeamish. Highly recommend!!
A boring but peaceful night is suddenly shattered by a horribly burned man staggering into the light. What the man's arrival means will change forever this piece of Americana and perhaps the entire world.
This book surprised me with how good it was. The preview doesn't tell you enough of how worth the read it will be. Gonna follow this author and read some of his other work.
It was okay. The story held together well. I just didn't need gore description after gore description. Also didn't need the gratuitous sexual comments.
You have GOT to put this book on your to read list! I could not put it down once I started reading it! So glad I downloaded it...... Wonderful edge of the seat read! Happy reading everyone!
Wish my HOA meetings were visited by Creatures from another dimension!
Picked up this book at Texas Frightmare Weekend where the author had a table. The cover art draws you to the table but talking to Russell and reading the synopsis of his books you know you are in for a horror treat.
I took a gamble on Between and am so glad I did. During the HOA meeting scenes I was both laughing and grinding my teeth in frustration because some of these personalities are also at my HOA meetings. The dialogue is sharp and really gives the characters different personalities. But most importantly, the creatures and the dread they bring with them is done extremely well. The descriptions of the appearance of the different creatures, how they attack, and where they appear from is chilling. Highly recommend if you like vicious little creatures.
