He's an Ujal who knows he'll never have a mate. She's a human who doesn't want to take another chance on love. One small child doesn't give them a choice.

With her toddler in tow, Vanessa Walker travels to Tampa, Florida to begin her new job at Ujal Station Tau. Then problems arise-her daughter is ill, and a sexy, demanding, overwhelming, purple-scaled Ujal is determined to do whatever he can to save Tabitha. When they realize Tabby isn't ill, she's Ujal, plenty of people don't want Vanessa raising her newly tail-sporting alien daughter. Ujal royalty may support her, but only one person-one Ujal male-makes her feel safe: Erun fa Arex.

Erun fa Arex earned his position through blood, sweat, and scales with a trident as his constant companion. On Earth, he is the captain of the principessa's elite guard, a worthy Ujal warrior matched by few. On Ujal, he grew up as a child slave forced to fight for sport and others' pleasure. Fighting left physical and mental scars while the master's growth-hormone injections left him unable to father younglings.

Erun never considered mating and having a family of his own until he meets Vanessa and Tabitha. Now he realizes everything he rejected-a mate and family-is exactly what he desires. And he will fight to keep them... to the death.

Erun is book four in The Ujal series. I really enjoyed this one. Kids add something special to a story when done right.

As I’ve said before I like the unique aliens in this series. Each Ujal has it’s own unique coloring, traits, and characteristics.

Erun’s history is harsh and dark. It’s made him who he is today; the hardened warrior. We also see that he has no reason to trust women, so his actions fit. At the start he comes off as an ass, but once you understand him more you see he has a heart and wants what all the others want, a mate and family. It was hard to learn about his past.

Vanessa is looking to start a new life after her husbands death, but little does she know his death isn’t what it seems. Besides that she soon learns her daughter is Ujal and they don’t want her raising her daughter. What is a mother to do, but fight for her child, Ujal be damed.

Theres surprises, action, tension, and love. I liked Vanessa and Erun together. They had a rocky start, but things turned out. I enjoyed how they interacted together and with Tabby along. What I especially loved was seeing Erun interact with Tabby. He was so sweet, patient, and loving.

Erun was a delight to read. One of my favorites in the series.

I've recently discovered that Celia Kyle who writes such fun shifter stories also writes sexy sci fi under the name Erin Tate. What's really funny is I'd read a couple before of them before I realized. So it was with much glee that when asked if I wanted to read this story I most definitely said yes please!
Our story begins when a small girl decides to run away from her mum but as there's traffic around its probably not the best idea! Vanessa is distraught with worry for little Tabby but luckily a rather large Ujal warrior steps in and saves the somewhat precocious child. Erun the fierce Ujal believes Vanessa to be an unfit mother and wastes no time in making his opinion known but things are about to get worse when Tabby turns out to be a stolen Ujal child!
I'm loving this series about this mermen type race of aliens who have arrived on Earth. It's hilarious how they struggle with our customs and ways. These big tough guys have no idea how to handle women but it sure is fun seeing them try. Our hero Erun has a very dark past and truthfully no reason to trust women so his actions do fit his character. Vanessa whilst a loving mother appears to me to be little too trusting and easily duped but I can say no more as it would reveal a huge plot twist.
A well thought story. Quite funny at times and even though it's a sexy one no instant getting jiggy so it worked very well.
I was gifted a copy in exchange for an honest review

¿Por qué esta autora me hace odiar el héroe de nuevo?

Erun de Erin Tate serie The Ujal libro 4

Reaaaallly liked this one~~~

Adorable babies!!!! Wounded alpha male with a soft heart! More adorableness!

Finally remembered why I didn't like the previous one(s) and this one as much! The sex scenes squick me. I find the woman's inevitable obsession with sperm unnatural, gross and-at times- ridiculous.

Romance books with kids are always fun

I especially love romances where kids are involved. They always bring an extra dimension into the story. In this case I like that I instead of young Tabby calling Erin by his real name she calls him 'da man'.

First off, this book is fantastic. When I was a teenager I never bought posters of actors or bands and put them on my walls. I have always done my best not to be a “fan girl” for anybody. I have authors I love but I don’t do the whole “squeeing” and “fanning myself” thing. I have on occasion been known to count down the days before a book comes out and lock myself in my room to read it when I finally get my hands on it. But honestly… who hasn’t? You cannot imagine my delight when I found out Celia Kyle (who writes paranormal romance… mostly LOL shifter books) wrote under another pen name … Erin Tate (who writes sci-fi romance). Shifter books are my favorites, sci-fi romance are my second favorites.
If you have read any of my other reviews you will see that I tell everyone that I read a lot…(average 300 to 400 books/novellas a year now) but I only review a handful of books a year. They have to be either really good… or REALLY BAD (my husband says I feel the need to save the world). For the bad ones I want to warn people. Life is short… why spend it reading junk? For the good ones I just want to share my joy in finding a really good book. If I was a “fan girl” I would be annoying my family by “squeeing” nonstop all over my house right now. I love when I find another good author. I love it even more when they already have a couple of books out. I plan on marathoning the Ujal series this weekend.
As for Erun… I LOVED it. The hero was a jerk in the beginning but he had his reasons. He turned out to be a fabulous hero. Everything a woman could ask for… sweet, strong, fierce, protective, and smart… with a bit of a wicked sense of humor. Now as for the heroine… LOVED her…. Loved that she was strong, smart and determined… willing to do anything to save her baby. She has to be one of my favorite heroines EVER. There is a scene where she kicks a$$. Loved that instead of having to be saved she took things into her own hands… yeah I won’t say anything else. I don’t want to spoil the scene. LOVED her! If you like sci-fi romances this book is FANTASTIC.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review and by honest I mean honest. I get offers ALL THE TIME for ARCs (advance reader copies) in exchange for an honest review. In the beginning I took whatever came my way… I mean, free books right? Then I ran across a couple of books that I didn’t like. (Not actually BAD, I didn‘t feel the need to save people from it, just not good. ) I was in a quandary. I owed the author a review but did they really want a negative one? Wouldn’t they prefer if I kept my mouth shut? So I stopped taking ARCs until Celia Kyle offered me one. She is one of my favorite authors and I have never… NEVER read anything from her that wouldn’t earn at least a 4 star review … so I felt safe. Safe and happy. Free books (which I had planned on buying anyway) from one of my favorite authors. So anyway… my point is that a free book will not win a good review from me. On the other hand, a good book will. This book was definitely a very good book.
On a side note, if you like sci-fi romances I have an author to suggest... Gail Koger… especially Vexing Voss and Just desserts. Happy Reading!

I never thought for the life of me that I would enjoy this book so much. It is quite a different take to what I'm used to reading from Celia Kyle writes and she did a terrific job!

The Ujal are a different kind of shifter futuristic and living amongst a somewhat bigoted human society..They come from the ocean and have adopted human form, when they become emotional their scales come out, but when they touch salted waters, they shift into half fish with scales, fins and a tail. They are one with the ocean, it is their natural home.

When they mate with humans the human is converted to Ujal So begins the story of Erun and Vanessa the human he dislikes and then desires. Will he be able to change his emotions for the human and will Vanessa be able to see past the tough exterior of the Captain of the Guard.

This story made me laugh so hard, for example the speech pattern of Erun had me bent over laughing.."the hole of the a** instead of a** hole!!!!
I cried like a baby and the passion he showed his mate was so intense, so many emotions went through me while reading this story. I certainly hope to read more stories of the Ujal.

I was given this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is my fave in the series just after Tave. I liked the book even though Erun behaved like a jerk at the beginning.

***

I'm sad to see that the author gave up the Ujal series.
With all the unmated guards mentioned throughout the book it felt (at least to me) like Ms. Kyle / Tate she would write stories for them, too. Unfortunately she didn't (or hasn't yet - depending on how you look at it).
Also, with Niax and Sece's "banter" throughout the book, I hoped we would get their story too. Shon was also put in the spotlight towards the end as a possible lead for another book...
The author really needs to come back and write stories for them too.

So sad to see that this series ends with the next novelette that introduces the Dragons of Preor.

Never Mess With A Mother And Her Child

When Vanessa and Erun meet for the first time it's not love at first sight. He considers her an unknown fit mother and she thinks he's a blowhard jackass. The only one that seems to break the ice between them is Tabby, Vanessas' little daughter. As Erun spends more time with them he discovers that Vanessa is a devoted mother and Tabby is a little whirlwind.
Then the worse happens. Tabby becomes seriously ill and it reveals her true heritage. Tabby is an ujal baby. Will this revelation bring Vanessa and Erun together or tear them apart? The only way to find out is to read the book.

Is she ready to move forward

Who doesn’t love a big snarly alpha male? Erun is a male who has been through the worst life can hand him, and yet he has managed to keep a firm grip on his peaceful loving heart. His very protective heart, especially when he finds the family that is meant to be his. He may have had a struggle on his way to his HEA, but with the support of his friends he is able to overcome the past and embrace his future. I truly hope the author continues with this series. I need to know if Niax and Sece, and so many other Ujal, finally reach their HEAs.

I was a little concerned by this at first. Romance that throws in small children can sometimes be incredibly annoying. I forgot whose books we were dealing with. I shouldn't have worried. Reading about the big tough Ujal warriors attempting to deal with a small child was hilarious. As with all these books, there was plenty of humour mixed in with the passion.

I loved this book and I'd really, really like some more.

OMG how sweet and I loved that for once the sex came at the end. Sometimes it just swallows the entire story, but not here. I truly loved it. Only complaint, which is addressed...it’s awfully quick. Very Insta love.

Received a copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.

3.5

So until a few weeks ago I didn't know that Celia Kyle also wrote alien romances under another pen name. I had checked out the Volume One in the Ujal series but I wasn't sure I wanted to spend the 4.99 when all three books included are really short (42 to 84 pages). So then today I received the email offering the free copy of Erun and I jumped on it. I loved Erun, Vanessa and Tabby. LOVED them. Erun our abused Alpha alien, Vanessa the single mother just trying to get through the day as best she can while dealing with an uptight alien who thinks he knows better and Tabby, the terrible toddler you can't help but love. There is a lot that goes on in this book, but it kept the pace fast and made for a really fun read. This is the longest book in the series so far and that made for a more drawn out love story which I appreciated. I get tired of insta-love and like to see some characters have to work for it.
Now there are some series you have to read in order to understand the world and others you can pop in and out of based on the desire to read about a certain couple. I'm not sure where this falls. I felt like I was missing a lot of world type info. Other than knowing the Ujal came from another planet to clean our oceans before they died completely, and their home planet was over crowded and politically corrupt I'm left pretty clueless. There are hover craft so what year is it? I know they're alien water type creatures but am I right when I think mermen? Do they have cities underwater or just homes? And what would be considered an underwater home? I also don't fully understand how a human can "transition" from human to Ujal.
So due to my love for these characters, as soon as I finished Erun I one-clicked the first volume of books 1-3. Now I can find out if any of my questions will be answered by reading from the beginning or if this a series flaw. I'll keep my fingers crossed but my expectations are low that she managed to do much world building in the first three considering their lengths. I know from past books she can build a world so I hope she builds a complete one for the Ujal.

Erun got better on the romance setting.

And finally I can say Yes, i liked both characters. Well, I actually loved Erun. He was abused most of his life and his protective instincts kicked in as soon as Tabby was in danger. He was the: take no prisoners, kill them all and dedicated to his mate and child kind of guy and worked for me.
Vanessa I just liked because she stated loud and clear she would do anything to save Tabby and ended up needing a week to think things through.

Then there was no mention of Tabby's long and painful transition to water that ignited the need to make Vanessa an Uljal as well.

But the story is the longest of the series and the romance takes a front seat. Somehow even though matched, Erun and Vaness actually worked toward being a couple.

I have felt like with the previous books that there is a lot missing from the world around the couple. I know that Uljal's are coming from Uljal, they were overcrowded and in need of space but the rest is just missing. The details of the society are lacking and the snap decisions at times do not show much of a political/ monarchical society. So the ruler, Tave, is ruled by his temper-tantrum throwing mate, Rina.

A lot of prejudices and not much of explanations. Plot, backstory, world/ character build are all lacking.

I think this is my favorite book in this series. Erun was just so...I don't know. I liked him. He was a little damaged and a lot angry (at first) and he made some snap judgments about Vanessa before seeing the whole picture and yet everything he did made perfect sense to me. Given his past, he was quick to jump to the defense of a vulnerable child and I LIKED that.

I liked it a lot.

I liked Vanessa, too. She had more than her fair share of issues to deal with and Erun's obvious disdain for her parenting when they first met stung her. Badly. The shock of her daughter's surprise transformation was the cherry on top. Throw in a little danger and a few close calls and suddenly Erun is the only one she trusts to protect them.

Like I said, probably my favorite of the series. The Ujal males are still dangerous and part-feral, but they're taking on a few human characteristics that work for me. *thumbs up*

Engaging and well written story

This is an excellent story! This is another great Celia Kyle story that will keep you turning the pages too fast, just trying to see what these characters will do or say to each other. The characters have an incredible amount of emotional tension surrounding them which feeds the plot. The story moves quickly and when chaos erupts, you know it will get to be continued in another book. The book is tight, the story is interesting, the characters are full and have real issues, and the romance builds slowly. Read it, you'll love it too!

Erun

Durning a walk Erun was passed a woman and her child - when suddenly the child the broke free and dashed toward traffic wanting to play tag but didn't understand that she was in danger of being run over by a passing hovercraft. After saving the giggling child Erun refused to give the child to sobbing parent. Vanessa followed in Erun's path as fast as she could but she wasn't as fast the the guy who caught her daughter - she didn't think she could suffer another lost. Could they get over there misunderstanding to become friends?

This was my favorite. I loved these two. While I did feel it focused too much in them as adoptive parents and not enough as a couple/their romance I still really enjoyed it.

It's a little sad there's no books after this one because she touched on several of the sad/lonely unmated males. I'd have likes to read their books.

Oh. Sidenote: that cover was crap LOL. Those two look like tweens and the couple in the book we're in their 40's. I'm not usually to focused on covers (obviously, you see the shit I read) but that one was bad lol. I'm glad it was re-done (visible on Amazon).

Great series

Love, love, love this series. Now I have to catch up on a whole bunch of new books. I am grilled to find a new to me author who writes about merpeople, excuse me Ujal. Book was exciting with great characters that I know I will love their own stories. Wish I had started with the first one. Would definitely recommend to friends.

Love for all.

Erun and Vanessa are from two completely different worlds and can’t stand each other, but both want what’s best for cute, little Tabby. I enjoyed seeing the characters grow to care about each other and their ability to bring their worlds together for the child they both love.

Good read

Nessa brings out the soft gooey center in Erun. You know like a tootsie pop; hard crunchy outside, soft inside. Lol - what woman wouldn’t want want some big strong man worshipping her. I know I enjoy it. Enjoy the story, it’s fun, sexy, and most enjoyable.
