A summer without a Kat French book would be like a gin without tonic and I can’t lie, both are essential to my well-being.

description Swallow Beach was calling, and she had no choice but to answer.”

This years romantic jaunt introduces us to Violet Spencer whose life is about to change having discovered she’s inherited a Victorian Pier. And with an eclectic bunch of neighbours, including one who happens to be particularly gorgeous all round, along with the discovery of Vi’s Gran’s diary—the woman she is the living image of—history may well be about to repeat itself.

description You’re my favourite new neighbour ever.”

As always, Kat has created a cast of characters who instantly woo you with their charm and are impossible not to fall completely and utterly in love with. And with their individual funny little ways and huge hearts, each has their own story bubbling away. But naturally the real focus lies with Violet, her cheeky plans for the pier whilst piecing together the puzzle of her Gran’s death, and the sparks flying between herself and fellow artisan, Calvin Dearheart *insert swoon here*.

description I’m going to strip off now. You should probably go before you’re overcome with unstoppable lust.”

I didn’t want this story to end as A Summer Scandal literally brought everything, and with friendships and new-beginnings, humour and heartache, heroes and villians and a touch of drama, this entire story gives all of your feelings a good work out (and in my case that included my tear ducts).

description

I think it’s fairly evident how much I loved this so I’ll say no more other than go forth and spend your summer on the Swallow Beach sex-pier because I can’t recommend A Summer Scandal highly enough. The wait for a Kat French book may be that bit longer but is absolutely worth it.

description It was an impossibly romantic story.”

Copy originally received courtesy of Avon Books UK via NetGalley for an honest and unbiased opinion. And then I bought it, because it’s a keeper.

5 - "You're my favorite new neighbor ever!" Stars!

I always associate opening a new book by Kat French with the similar excitement levels I have when I open up a new box of my preferred chocolates, because I know I am at the beginning of something special, it’s going to be a real treat from start to finish and be filled with a diverse collection of characters for me to get my teeth into.

"I promised myself I wouldn’t be dull when I came here… My life back home is too safe, it suffocates me."

And once again the author didn’t disappoint. And we are welcomed to Swallow Beach, its residents and pier through Violet Spencer, learning of her inheritance from her recently deceased grandfather (the pier and a flat in the local Lido building). Pretty much all of it is new information to Vi as before his death she knew nothing of the life he lived with her grandmother Monica, who died in the late seventies.

Through the entries in her grandmothers Diary, and meeting and getting to know the older generation living in Swallow Beach, Vi gradually pieces together her Grandmothers life, a glamorous and vivacious woman, who was not without her secrets.

She wanted to step out and walk the tightrope without a safety net, ready to be a roaring success or go down spectacularly…

Vi makes the decision to re-open the pier and get it up and running again with the help of the friends and acquaintances she makes along the way, although her choices and decisions of what to do with it are met with some opposition from the Towns Mayoress along the way.

"Whenever we’re together I sort of want all of my clothes to fall off, and that’s a bit of a problem…"

And while all this is going on we have the stop/start romance playing out as well, Calvin Dearheart never thought he would be in the place to want to have a relationship with a woman again, but Vi comes into his life like the proverbial whirlwind, a kaleidoscope of sequins, feathers and quirkiness, and pretty much restarts his heart again.

"You’re enough just as you are… You’re fabulous and worthy and enough… Just as you are."

As expected, the author delivered an emotional, humorous, and well-rounded read. I will admit there were certain secondary characters I personally would have liked to have had more expansion on their own POV’s and story-lines, and for me their inclusions didn’t have the depth that I have found in general Kat’s secondary characters in previous books to have. But that niggle aside I really enjoyed the story that was told.

You can tell a lot of work and polishing goes into the tales that the author tells with her Chick Lit/Contemporary offerings, and that is certainly the case with A Summer Scandal. I look forward to seeing what the author has for her readers next, because it is certain to be another joyful and entertaining tale.

"You’re part of Swallow Beach forever…"

A Summer Scandal is a gorgeous feel good read with romance, Humour, drama, mystery, relationships and a gorgeous location.

Violet has just lost her Grandpa and discovered he has left her a gorgeous quirky apartment and a derelict pier.
The pier has history, that starts off as a romantic story which ends in tragedy.

Violet meets her sexy neighbour Cal and sparks fly. They instantly connect, but is Violet ready to walk into another relationship.

ARC received by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Relaxing & laugh-out-loud 3,75 stars.

I did not quite like this book by Kat French as much as The Bed and Breakfast on the Beach, but it was still very entertaining and if you are looking for a light beach-read, this may be a great choice.

There were a few things I was dissatisfied with -like the insta-love and a rather abrupt ending with a few loose ends fluttering around- but the positive outweighs the negative issue nevertheless.

If you read the blurb, you won't be in for any big surprises, but this book is not a mystery after all even though it has a bit of a flirt with that genre, but in the end it just reverts back to where it belongs: romance/chick-lit.

This is the perfect summer read!

I loved the story and the characters were great - they are the kind of people that I would love to meet in real life! The setting of the book was perfect and I would love to visit!

The story flowed really well and whilst there have been a few books out this year that have covered similar subjects this one does stand out for me. It is another fabulous story from this author.

I really adore this cover - very bright and eye catching and it is certainly one of the nicest looking around at the moment and if the cover doesn't grab you the blurb will definitely draw you in!

4.5 stars from me for this book rounded up to 5 stars for Amazon and Goodreads - it is a thoroughly enjoyable read!

Genre: Chick Lit
Actual Rating: 3.5-4 stars

Kat French has done it again! She put a HUGE smile on my face with this story and invoked so many feelings of pleasure! After reading some pretty intense romances, I knew I needed to read a lighter read to lift my spirits up and this did just that. I loved the scandal, the tiny bit of drama used to keep things interesting (Gladys!) and the wonderful ending.

If you are a chick lit reader and love books that remind you of the beach, summer, and fun then this is the book for you! Ladies, if you need a cute book for your summer beach bag then grab this one! And if you just want to explore a new place then I recommend this one.

A Summer Scandal is a delightful romance. I loved Violet. She’s this super sassy character who inherits her grandfather’s pier and apartment in a seaside town in England. Violet soon moves to the apartment and gets a chance to know more about her grandmother and her secrets. She soon meets Calvin and a romance between the two begins to grow. This was a very light read, and I really enjoyed reading it by the pool on a nice warm day in May. This book is much more than just a simple romance. This is a cute and funny chic-lit that will certainly please fans of the genre.

I’d like to thank Avon Books and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Violet is surprised to hear that she has been left a flat and a pier in a seaside town. She decides to spend the summer there whilst she decides what she wants to do with her life.
The flat sounds like a wonderful find with a beautiful view- and although the trek up the stairs doesn't sound much fun- the spectacular views over the sea made me want to curl up on the ancient sofa and finish reading the book!

Her plans for the pier are surprising - but lead to lots of interesting characters coming together. Cal is a lovely character and would be the perfect neighbour!

There are lots of tensions in the town and some opposition to the plans- but more seem to be in favour. I got totally involved in the story and meeting all the new friends and the plans in store. I was sad to leave and would love to return to Swallow beach.

Violet isn't sure what she wants out of life. She is living with her parents working out of an outbuilding on their property, using it as a studio. Her grandfather lives next door, at least he did until he recently passed away. She is given a letter by her mother that her grandfather left for her. It opens a can of worms, as Violet finds out that her grandparents owned a pier in Swallow Beach. The pier contains an arcade and there is also an apartment, that now belong to Violet. She knows almost nothing about her grandmother, Monica, who drowned when her mother was a young child. Violet heads to Swallow Beach to decide what she will do next. Once there, she meets several interesting and friendly people, including hunky Calvin (Cal) and his mother, the not so nice mayor. With Vi wanting to stay in Swallow Beach, reopening the arcade as an adult-themed arcade full of artisan shops, she has to fight the mayor who is trying to force sale of the pier to the village. Can Vi make a go of the pier? Can she solve the mystery of what happened to her grandma? Will she find romance in Swallow Beach?

This was a fun story with a bit of scandal, a mystery, and some romance. I really liked Violet. She was a bit of a lost soul until she moved to Swallow Beach. She found people like her and developed some great friendships. She was a bit insecure, but she grows a backbone, especially when dealing with Madame Mayor Gladys Deerheart. Cal is her handsome neighbour and there is instant attraction between the two of them, but he is the mayor's son and she is not happy about their friendship. As the arcade fills up with various artisans, Gladys gets even more upset and her antics are hilarious. There are several secrets that are revealed as the story moves forward and they bring the characters closer together as they help each other deal with things. Overall this was a wonderful story. The characters are quirky and fun, the location is simply gorgeous, there is a mystery to solve, some romance, some regrets, some laugh out loud moments and an ending that blew me away. A perfect summer read and one I very much enjoyed. Elisabeth Hopper narrates this audiobook and I enjoyed her performance. She gave the characters their own voices using various accents, tone, and expression. I was pulled into the story and as I listened I felt like I was there in Swallow Beach. I definitely recommend this audiobook to those who enjoy listening, otherwise pick up the book and get swept away to Swallow Beach.

This was an absolute delightful read with great characters, warm ocean, and a Victorian pier which has its own secrets.

Violet comes to Swallow Beach, to know more about her grandmother and her inheritance. She meets Calvin, and there is instant attraction. Her need to make bring the Arcade at the end of the pier alive, turns it into an adult themed artisan shops.

My second book by author Kat French, and A Summer Scandal became my Saturday night date. The story had love, lust, humor everything I needed in my date. There was a bit of mystery to keep the interest burning bright. A diary helped to bring the past into the present, a medium who summoned the dead grandmother's spirit, an abusive husband, an errant wife all popped into my evening. My date sure knew how to keep me entertained. The entire book date night was like a warm hug to keep the heart filled with hope.

P. S. I know quite a bit about whips, floggers, cages, corsets, thanks to this book and Kat French.

This is a delightful, fun, feel-good romance packed with humour, love, mystery and surprises. It has a lovely seaside setting and fantastic characters, too. It is one of those rare books that had me chuckling out loud - especially at the council meeting scene! Actually, I was giggling away so much that I had to read that scene out to my bemused husband - and he laughed at it, too!

Violet is amazed to discover that she has inherited an apartment and the pier in the coastal resort of Swallow Beach. She’s heard of the town all her life but has never visited. Now it seems that her Grandfather was keeping secrets . . . Violet can’t resist going to visit and she falls in love with the setting and soon makes friends and new plans for herself and the pier. However, there’s one person striving to compulsory purchase the pier to thwart her plans and unexpected danger as well as romance in store!

I loved escaping into this brilliant romantic comedy that definitely put a smile on my face! There’s plenty of funny scenarios but there’s also added angst and turmoil to add a healthy dose of suspense to the mix. As Violet learns more about her family’s past and her Grandmother, there are surprises, love and, of course, scandal! I have no hesitation in highly recommending this brilliant story - and other books by this talented author.

I requested and was given a copy of this book, via NetGalley. This is my honest review of the book after choosing to read it.

Violet decides to move to Swallow Beach, because she inherited a pier and an apartment. Nobody has lived there for 40 years, but her grandfather made sure it was well maintained. Violet and the local mayor have different views on the use of the pier and that’s not the only aspect she discovers whilst being in Swallow Beach.

It was my first book by the author and it was amazing, it’s well written, there’s great pacing, interesting characters and excellent setting. I was hooked from the first page. I definitely recommend this book for all romance readers.

I read it sitting in my sunny garden and I really enjoyed it, a perfect summer read.
After the death of her Grandad Henry, Violet is about to discover something that will change her forever. How did she not know about Swallow Beach and the pier before this and why has her family kept it from her? She intends to find out.
I loved Violet. Love the quirkiness of her clothes and hair. Her costume-making job really fitted her personality, which really shone out after the move to Swallow Beach. Her previous home and life looks pretty boring in comparison.
Some of the neighbours become a big part of her life, and some remember her Grandparents. Especially the fact that she is the image of Monica, her Grandmother.
The characters were really likeable (and one really dislikeable). I was really interested in their lives and what was going on.
There are some touching and emotional scenes which the author writes so beautifully.
This was my first Kat French book, but certainly not the last. Definitely my cup of tea.

Violet has always been different from her parents – a bit artsy, bold and prone to vintage choices, dyed hair in rainbow colors and a dream of making costumes for the Moulin Rouge in Paris. Her little business has quite a following, and she’s working in her parent’s back garden shed, juggling her career and a fiancé, dealing with the loss of her beloved Grandfather who lived next door. But then, in a move that sends her mother into a tizzy, Violet is presented with deeds and keys to a Victorian Pier and a flat in Swallow Beach, bequests from her Grandfather, a place she never heard of before. Then the surprises keep coming: far from wanting or seeing a life with her fiancé Simon, she breaks her engagement, packs her work materials and clothes and heads to Swallow Beach for the summer – both to make decisions about her life and to discover more about her grandmother, a woman she never knew, was told nothing of, and could pass for her twin.

Sure, the town is a mixed bag of welcoming and curious: from the Lady Mayor who wants the pier to be returned to the town, to a downstairs neighbor, an elderly man with a social calendar that is packed full, an apartment that hadn’t been changed since the 60’s and an overwhelming sense that her grandmother has a story to share. Soon Violet meets her neighbor Cal, and an instant attraction lights the air between them – but her work commitments and her desire to ‘do something’ with the pier and the glass birdhouse at it’s center become a source of conflict and opportunity, as Violet decides to open and rent the spaces to ‘adult themed’ businesses. Soon there is her Costume shop with corsets and showgirl items, Cal with his custom leatherwork items like floggers, harnesses, etc., Cal’s friend Beau who makes metalwork items, cages and the like. Add in her downstairs neighbor’s silky knicker shop, a couple of sex therapists who are just as strange as one might expect and a woman who does boudoir photography – and the pier is ready to open and start up.

Throughout the story there are light moments and a deceptively deep undercurrent of her grandmother’s story and Violet’s coming to learn who she was, what secrets she held, and above all, what she wants to do with all of this new information and just what her next step will be. With ominous portents, a sense that not everyone is sharing ALL they know, and a threat to one of her tenants returning to cause havoc, the story truly is one of unearthed secrets that help to reveal new pathways that were hidden, or unexplored before. A bit quick on the uptake for the relationship between Violet and Cal, the story held a welcoming vibe with plenty of vintage flair: descriptions, emotions and plenty of heart keep you reading on, engaged and wondering what’s next.

I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

*Book provided by the publisher in exchange for an honest review*

After her grandfather Henry dies, Violet inherits a small Victorian pier in Swallow Beach. Henry has lived there, but he left the place, after his wife Monica died. Violet’s mum Della doesn’t want to speak of the place and when Violet decides to go there for the summer, she is not happy.

Violet is with Simon, but when he proposes she just can’t say yes. She doesn’t feel that he is the one and she is very clear about that to him. He doesn’t seem to understand though…

Violet goes to Swallow Beach and the adventure begins. She lives in her grandmother’s flat and it’s like no time has passed. The apartment still has all the old interior and it’s filled with some surprises. Violet meets her neighbour Cal, who is very handsome, but also a little mysterious. They get on well from the start, I would say, they had instant chemistry. He sparks her creativity and they start making exciting plans for the pier. She also meets Barty, someone, who actually knew her grandmother. Keris is a fun young girl, who turns out to be a great friend. However, there are also people, who don’t like Violet’s appearance. Her plans for the pier are also not to their taste.

Cal’s and Violet’s relationship is an up and down, with sparks flying constantly ad there is definitely a deep connection between them. Things get interesting when Simon turns up and Cal has a secret as well. The way he handles things, when that certain person turns up, was confusing to me, but it fit the storyline.
I really adored the scenes between him ad Violet, so sweet, but also passionate and sexy.

Violet also finds Monica’s diary and she discovered a lot about her grandmother, also that she is very similar the her.

For Violet this book is definitely a journey of learning what she really wants in life. There are rocks on the way, but that’s part of it. I loved following her through these important stages of life.

The plot has a fab flow, the characters are fantastic and the setting is gorgeous as well. Kat French really bring the pier to life and makes a story lively and fresh.
I was hooked from the start and the storyline was full of drama, passion and love. It’s funny, sexy and the perfect read for summer!

For a book with a sex pier (their description not mine) this is a surprisingly sweet and quirky romance that is absolutely perfect for reading by the side of the pool, which is exactly where I read it. It is a little bit predictable in terms of story (sex pier notwithstanding) and you can pretty much tell from the beginning, if not the blurb, how it's going to end but as I've come to expect from French it's an enjoyable journey.

Main character Violet is an incredibly likeable and relateable character, despite me not having a creative bone in my body, and I found myself really getting behind her as she uncovers secrets from her families past and finds who she is. As always French creates a real sense of community in this story and the characters Violet meets are also intriguing, fun and in some cases one of a kind.

I will admit I wasn't wholly convinced by male lead and love interest Calvin but I did still like the relationship between him and Violet. The author has an incredible knack of creating chemistry between the most unlikely pairings and even though I had a few niggles about them together there was most definitely a spark.

This book isn't only about the romance however as Violet has inherited a link to her grandmother who died a number of years ago in tragic and mysterious circumstances. Feeling a connection to the one member of her family she has most in common with she begins digging into the past, something a few of the locals would rather was left alone. I have to admit I would have liked to have seen this side of the story developed a little more. We get glimpses through a diary Violet finds but it seemed to keep being pushed to the side to make way for the present making the reveals inconsistent and in my opinion incomplete. Having finished now read the whole thing I'm still not sure I understand everything and I find that frustrating.

Similarly the ending of the book felt a little incomplete to me. Things are resolved too suddenly and I wasn't entirely convinced by how it all played out.

It is however still an entertaining and pretty addictive read and I do still love French's writing and the characters she creates. It's probably not my favorite book of hers but I would still recommend if you're looking for a light and fun holiday read (featuring a sex pier).

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with and ARC. As always all views are my own.

I received this in my first A Box of Stories box last year. Now romance isn't my go to genre at all. In fact I tend to go for thrillers or fantasy over romance. I did pick this up a while back, started reading it but a book I'd ordered that was part of a series I was reading turned up. Impatient, I put this book down and didn't end up picking it back up.

I took part in a 24 hour readathon over the weekend so thought I try my hand at this again.

I am glad that I did!! It was a nice, easy read that was beautifully written and it has definitely opened my eyes to romance. I've looked into more of Kat French's books and I will be getting them at some point.

The book was a touch predictable, but I found I actually enjoyed the predictability, unlike if it was another genre. This would have been the perfect holiday read and I'm looking forward to reading more romance in the near future!!

Now lets be honest, it’s not really Summer until Kat French releases a new book and gets our pulse racing and temperatures rising, is it?!

Firstly, just look at that absolutely gorgeous, vibrant cover for A Summer Scandal; doesn’t it just scream summer at you and make you want to pick it up and run straight to the beach, the garden, the pool…anywhere just to delve in immediately?!

The story follows 25 year old, Violet Spencer, who after her grandfather passes away finds she’s inherited a pier and a top floor apartment overlooking Swallow Beach (she knew of it’s existence but thought it was all in her families past; all locked up since her grandmother died 40 years ago!). When her Boyfriend Simon proposes, Violet realises that as lovely as he is, he’s not who she wants, or loves and finds it’s the perfect opportunity to pack her bags for the summer and head to Swallow Beach. Unknowingly, this pier hosts a lot of it’s own secrets…

Violet’s a free spirited, quirky, colourful, bold and artsy character and has her own business making costumes. When she starts to build friendships with some other Swallow Beach residents, including Cal (her very HOT top floor neighbour) and Keris (also living in the apartment block) she comes up with the idea of renting the pier out to ‘adult’ themed businesses. Of course, this is bound to ruffle one or two feathers along the way…

I don’t think I’ve ever read about an inheritance of a pier, it was definitely an unusual and unique one, but it was incredibly captivating, with a sense of seaside nostalgia there as well. I absolutely loved the picturesque location which was so well described that I could feel it coming to life on the page and the huge glass dome on the end of the pier looking out over the sea was a real charmer for me.

This novel was a tale of two halves. On the one hand there’s the inheritance of the pier and a granddaughter who wants to discover and understand the grandmother she never met. This part is full of mystery, family secrets unfolding and of 2 different generations of women ultimately seeking love – it provides a layer of depth to the novel. On the second hand is the refurbishment and reopening of the pier itself. Fun, flirty and down-right fabulous is this part, I love how the author provides a wonderfully colourful and eclectic cast of characters to tackle a (still) taboo subject! I would of liked a little bit more on the goings on of the little businesses and their owners on this side of the story, purely because I loved them so much and felt the other part just got a little more attention.

A story of new beginnings, new friendships and self discovery. I was completely transported away reading this novel and I loved every page of it. Romantic comedies/chick-lit is still to this day frowned upon by many people and it makes me so angry because when it’s well written (like this book is) it’s an absolute joy to read and can just instantly uplift you and refresh you! I spent a wonderful weekend escaping with this novel and If I could of physically jumped into it; I would have!

Hilarious antics, heart-warming moments and sizzling chemistry make A Summer Scandal not only the perfect summer romp, but Kat French’s best book to date!

Book Review - A Summer Scandal by Kat French - Five Frothy, Foamy, Flirty, Fun Stars

Much like the waves of the shores this is set amongst, A Summer Scandal crashes over you, leaving you drenched, exhilarated and longing to ride the surf again when you get to the end.

This is Kat at her best. With a leading lady who isn’t afraid to be as individual as the tips of her hair, Violet blasts into Swallow Beach with her personality bubbling over. However, not all of the residents are happy with our new arrival. When the local Mayor starts to campaign against Violet, it would seem she’s already making waves in her new town.

Violet just wants to find a place to belong. She’s not found her fit before and the lure and mystery of Swallow Beach was enough to drag her in. Now with the charismatic Cal next door, is it more than the vintage fixtures and fittings attracting her to the top floor?

I loved how Violet’s effervescent personality sang off the pages. She didn’t have a lot of confidence in herself but you could see from the eyes of others just how she drew them in like a magnet.

It was wonderful to have the mystery of Monica, Violet’s grandmother and her untimely demise woven through the modern day story, as we read flashbacks and gain insights into her life and the place she held so close to her heart.

I could literally not put down this book. There is so much heart in this story, from the tiny new friendships woven with the young and old, to memories of the past; it grabbed a hold of me and refused to let me go. Highly recommended.

I've read all of Kat French's books over the years and what Kat delivers consistently is down-to-earth, relatable, funny, empowering books that sizzle with wicked chemistry and A Summer Scandal is no exception.

Violet is the main character, who is a bit of a restless soul. She's artistic (designing show costumes), quirky, driven, independent and yet seems to not really know what she truly wants; will a drastic move to Swallow Beach help her to see her true goals (of course it does, but it is a great story finding what these are)? There is an eclectic cast of supporting characters from the scarily determined Gladys, to the magnetic Calvin, warm Keris and fearless Lucy. These characters create a wonderful sense of community in the seaside town, and the art-deco chic of The Lido apartments. This community, with this setting was a real dream and worked to pull you in to the drama. Helped by an utterly beautiful front cover, this book hits all the right notes for a cracking summer read!

Luckily, I was able to read this over a sun-drenched weekend in the garden so felt utterly absorbed in to the sunny seaside vibe it emits. I am left dreaming about owning my own pier (probably unlikely in Derbyshire!). Because of Violet's past ties to the resort, you experience the nostalgia of the 1970's seaside as well as the modern day diversification that happens in many tourist attractions to save them from folding; can't say I've ever experienced a "sex pier" before but I guess Blackpool comes close! Violet chances upon secrets never discovered regarding her grandmother and with this finds herself falling down the rabbit hole of curses, dilemmas and scandal at Swallow Beach, their fates at times seeming to be interlinked and tragic. However, despite this tense plotline, I can definitely say I laughed out loud at several points throughout; I just don't think you can fail to love Kat's writing and characters.

Hilarious antics mixed with heartbreaking drama and scorching chemistry means this novel packs quite a lot in and is a refreshing and fun read whilst still managing to tackle a lot of (quite frankly old-fashioned) taboos. Bravo to Kat French!

A huge thank you to the publisher Avon for accepting me for a copy of this on Netgalley so I could review it truthfully in my own words.

This book was very well written with great characters and excellent story plot as well which has you hooked very quickly. It's full of highs and lows and romance and also has you laughing. Set in beautiful seaside resort and wants you to hear more to what will happen. Perfect holiday read.
Violet decides to move to the beautiful seaside village of swallow beach as her grandfather has left her a flat along with other things in his will and it's where he was happily married to his wife but sadly where she died and he hasn't been back. She didn't no anything about this place and that it even existed but she's out with her boyfriend who proposes to her but she knows it's not what she wants and she doesn't no how to tell him. She decides to go just for the summer to this seaside place and see what it's all about. Once she arrives she sees the flat and pier she has been left and she really wants to rejuvenate it and make the pier grand again. She soon meets Calvin and she soon thinks she wants him and starts giving her inspiration into how to bring the pier to life again. Problem is not everyone in the village is keen on her idea and one person really tries to put a stop to it but can she do that and does Calvin and violet get closer together. Tensions teally start to build and life gets difficult she has also been trying to find out more about her grandmother and learns things she wasn't sure she wanted to. Can everything work out or do things get hard and does she end up staying or leaving and does she find her romance or not. A very sexy read.

It's no secret that I'm a huge Kat French fan and have read all of her books to date. I didn't think any of her books could knock my favourite off my top spot, but this one did. The story centres around violet who is left something in her grandfathers will so she goes off to this glorious sea side town to find out more about it and her grandmother too. She finds a lot more the than what she bargained for. I loved all of the characters in this book. I truly loved how real violet came across to me even though she is slightly quirky and feels like she doesn't fit in, the way she was written made her feel so realistic. The story is so well written and hooks you right from the very beginning and has some loop the loops along the way but for me this made me keep reading as I was gripped. I went through every emotion possible along with the characters.

This is a fantastic beach read for the summer hols, so if you see it at the airport pack it in your hand luggage right away as you won't want to miss this one.

What a truly unexpected, wonderfully addictive read. Once I started this book, I honestly could not put it down. Surprising, refreshing, happy, sad, so many things come to mind when thinking about Violet Spencer and her family. The story centres around a Pier in the quirky town of Swallow Beach, a town that Violet had never heard of until her grandfather died, leaving her an apartment and a pier, yes a pier, in his will. Moving to Swallow Beach for the summer, Violet finds her niche in life with a group of likeminded, and equally quirky characters. There are so many secrets to uncover, so much happening in love and life. I loved the relationships between Violet and ALL the characters, she was strong, she spoke her mind, even after knock after knock she came out strong. Wonderful writing, a brilliant story and fantastic characters. I loved it. I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. This is my honest opinion.

Violet never expected to inherit a pier (who does?) but she's decided to make the best of it by renovating and changing things up. That isn't the easiest thing initially because, to her surprise, the people in Swallow Beach aren't so happy about it. She's also discovering, slowly (as you will) the story of her grandmother Monica. Cal, the love interest, didn't excite me all that much but he's a good foil for Violet. This is old fashioned chick lit_ perfect for the beach or garden. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.

When Violets Grandfather Henry dies and bequeaths her a Victorian pier and a beachside apartment, Victoria is totally thrown, why did her grandfather have these and whats the story behind them???

When Violet moves to Swallow beach for the summer to live in her new apartment things start to become slightly clearer for her, she is so different to her parents is she now finding out that that she follows more of her grandmothers attributes???

This is a good story with all the skeletons having to come out of the closet, well written and a pleasant read.
