Inspired by best-selling author Janette Oke and the Hallmark Channel original TV series When Calls the Heart , these forty devotions from Hope Valley are about finding moments of grace, joy, and beauty amid the unexpected circumstances of life.
In this collection, Brian Bird, executive producer and co-creator of When Calls the Heart , and Michelle Cox illuminate the “God-moments” from the fictional, 1910 mining town of Hope Valley. The stories of faith, hope, and love from each episode will inspire and encourage you with wonderful virtues and relatable life lessons.
Each chapter contains a quote from one of your favorite citizens, a Scripture verse, a devotional reflection, a prayer, and questions to help you think a little deeper about what’s on your own heart.
As Elizabeth Thatcher learned when she headed West to fulfill her dream of becoming a teacher, when God calls the heart, you can expect an adventure!
Whether you are a fan of the Halllmark show, When Calls the Heart, or just want to read a practical and applicable devotional book, this one will meet your need. Anecdotes from the show are relevant, warm, and lead to practical application of the Bible verse at the head of each story, but they stand on their own even if you’ve never seen an episode. Biblical truths abound in the beautifully bound book.
Having thoroughly enjoyed the Christian-centric TV series, When Calls The Heart, I picked up this devotional book knowing it would be full of hope. Each day’s reading begins with a Bible verse and a quote from a character in the show. Reflecting back on an episode, the book then walks through that story outline highlighting God’s role and making the story relevant to the reader for example, on day 2, it asks “What is your collapsed coal mine? What eviction notices have been tacked up on your door? What situation right now feels so overwhelming that you don’t think you can get through it?” Guidance is shared along with a prayer. My favourite section is the last one “What’s on your heart today”, three questions asking how to live out that day’s devotion. I loved this paragraph:
“That’s life for all of us. God doesn’t promise perpetual happy endings. But he does promise “when you pass through the waters, they will not sweep over you” (Isaiah 43:2). Notice it doesn’t say if we pass through the waters, but when we do. Do when storm clouds are threatening, and we feel like running away like Cody, remember that God will recognize our needs and meet them. He allows the storms. Without them, we would never have the blessing of His provision. And remember, He’s also the God of blue skies, sunrises, and rainbows…especially rainbows.”
If you haven’t watched the series, the opening stories won’t feel relevant but if you are a fan of it, this book is for you! Four out of five for me!
Heartfelt devotions! Inspired by the TV series, When Calls the Heart, these 40 devotions offer a glimpse into heart of Hope Valley, providing uplifting stories of courage, love, and faith. Each chapter begins with a scripture, a quote, and a photo that draws readers into a powerful devotional thought, a prayer, and reflective questions. Authors Brian Bird and Michelle Cox also offer readers a When God Calls the Heart Journal, encouraging them to examine their own hearts as they consider each spiritual truth and lesson.
A beautiful devotional book, inviting you to respond When God Calls [Your] Heart.
A very sweet devotional using When Calls the Heart as bases. Enjoyed very much. Great question and thought at end of each short chapter. Well worth the read.
When God Calls the Heart is a nice little devotional with good reminders for everyday. It wasn't as 'deep' as I would like but still enjoyable to read before bed.
A neat little devotional book centered around the characters of Hope Valley. There are 40 thought provoking devotions to help guide us on our spiritual walk. I enjoyed reading these quick short stories.
As I read these devotionals I actually loved the prayers that they placed at the end of each chapter. The words just seemed to fit the situation right now. This book was not as good as the Christmas one but loved it.
Love this book! It’s beautifully written with scripture, prayers, and beautiful pictures from the When Calls the Heart tv series. So uplifting and inspiring!
"When Calls the Heart'' is an episode series from the hallmark channel which is usually known for their festive holiday movies. In this book it's given a verse that a character from the movie has each chosen. Even though this may not be an ordinary book, i think it's a beautiful christan based book that has scriptures to help a person find hope throughout the day. I personally have watched most of the episode called ``When Calls the Heart" and I love how Elizabeth keeps a diary/notebook and writes about what goes on in Hope valley. The setting goes back to when there was mainly horses used for transportation,

Christmas gift 2019 🥳 • • I’m hard to please when it comes to devotionals, and as much as I love the WCTH tv series, it has its admittedly cringy/cheesy moments. However‼️I’m happy to announce this 40-day devotional was not only surprising, but excellent :) • • Highly recommend for any #hearties out there ❤️ • • What devotional / spiritual development books are you reading? (Do not neglect this part of yourself!)
I loved this devotional. Not only does it summarize the stories from Hope Valley, it ties all the lessons with God's Word. I am so grateful for this amazing devotional. I plan to begin again and read it daily! You should, too!
I love this devotional. Not only does it summarize the stories from Hope Valley, but it ties them to God's Word.

I love the devotions, scriptures, and questions. A feel good story that can lead you closer to God. I will be sharing this book with my family and share the wonderful moments in this book.
When God Calls the Heart is exactly what I was looking for in a devotional: lighthearted enough to remind me of the joy of following God & joining in on this adventure He calls all of us to, but also full of truth. Hope is really at the core of everything and everyone in Hope Valley and each day's devotion is a reminder to live the same way. For fans of the show, returning to this vibrant small town will be a delight, while newcomers to the valley will fall in love with the characters, finding both them and their struggles real, honest and relatable. With sincerity and kindness, When God Calls the Heart inspires readers to live with an uncommon hope that grows faith in hard times and produces real joy and thankfulness when life is good.
When GOD Calls The Heart Is a unique devotional. It uses scenes from the show to give examples for their subject of that day. Then they give You a Prayer from the heart. Then they ask you some questions - questions like - What is on your heart? This is a very special devotional - I felt special reading it. It is not a hit-and-run devotional - they spend some time with you. It is unique and sweet.
