From secluded mews to undiscovered cafes, flower markets, and tree-lined streets, prettycitylondon champions the quiet, gentle moments that allow you to escape in a huge capital city like London. If you know where to look, you will find that traditional shop fronts, vintage transport, artisan bakeries, florists, and bookstores are but a hop skip and a jump from the center, and some right bang in the middle. Curated by founder and editor of Instagram’s @prettycitylondon, this stunning guide also includes tips on how to photograph and plan your own prettycitylondon experience, whether on foot or from afar.
I heard about this book because I follow both the author and prettycitylondon on Instagram. This is largely a coffee table book full of photographs of a romantic and nostalgic side of London. However the photos are really incredibly beautiful and I would recommend this for anyone who enjoys photography and especially, anglophiles like me.
Pretty City London surprised me in the best way! I was expecting a book mostly about photography and places to take great Instagram shots throughout London. This book has those things but it also acts a lot like a travel guide. There's tips about great shops, cafes, restaurants, and notable sights in each area of London including exciting events that occur annually like the Chelsea Flower Show. I really liked the hand-drawn maps of each neighborhood of London as it gave me an idea of how the different neighborhoods are connected since I've never been there. I also appreciated how photos from all four seasons in London were included and a special chapter was dedicated to seasonal events that might be of interest. I definitely have a strong desire to visit London after reading this book and seeing the amazing pictures!
Gorgeous book. The writing isn't amazing, but that's OK, Ferguson's talent is in letting the photos tell the story. Logically, you have to question the sense of hundreds of readers rampaging around London to take essentially the same pics to post on Instagram... but nonetheless, this is a beautiful read, a lovely celebration of the city, and very welcome during a period of armchair travel.
I absolutely loved this book. As a follower of hers on Instagram I am very familiar with her style. I have visited London on a number of occasions and enjoyed reading about some of my favorite places and learning about some new ones for my next trip.
The perfect book form someone who loves photography! I absolutely adored this, it’s full of so many lovely places! I knew where most of them where from exploring London before but this has helped me with those I haven’t come across yet.
This is a really pretty book with beautiful photos of London and it’s ‘Instagrammable’ spots. If you want to find where to take the perfect selfie or photo in London with a gorgeous backdrop, this is the book for you.
Gorgeous photos, but some noticable factual errors in the text. Overall, I enjoyed this very much and will be seeking out some of the places mentioned on my next visit.
A truly "pretty" look at London, with rather more emphasis on Instagram than I was expecting. I enjoyed the recommendations for where to shop, drink, and dine--inspiration for our next visit!
