What is Tantra? It is joy, passion, and healing. It is trust and kindness. It is power. It is everything that a human being is capable of and more... so much more. In this revolutionary book, Katrina Bos leads you through this tantric world through stories from her own life, weaving ancient tantric wisdom into the world we live in today. You will find exercises, real-life examples, and thorough, captivating lessons to guide you on your journey. From the seasoned tantra expert, to those who aren’t even sure how “tantra” is pronounced, this book is written for you. It is for all brave souls willing to dive headfirst into the mystery, truths and wonder that this incredible life has to offer.
Katrina was raised in Toronto, Canada, by two teachers -- so learning was paramount. She went on to get a Bachelor of Mathematics from the University of Waterloo, minoring in philosophy and spirituality. Soon after, her academic life changed to domesticity when she married a dairy farmer, moved to the country and raised two wonderful children.
Today, Katrina Bos is a writer, a speaker, and a teacher of both spirituality and real day-to-day living. She is passionate about tantra, personal health and conscious parenting, and has written two books to date: "What if You Could Skip the Cancer?" and "Tantric Intimacy: Discover the Magic of True Connection"
OMG, I cannot believe that I only read my first Tantra book at 36! It moved me deeply! I couldn't stop smiling while listening to it (while running). It spoke right into my heart!
When I was growing up I was disgusted by the sex porn shows us. Anonymous, unintimate, purely focused on the genitals, fast and shallow. It took me years to stop imitating what I thought I was supposed to do and start doing what I felt I wanted. Also, I have never been physically able to sleep with a guy I am not in love with. I had some epic fails in my youth :-)) I have never been into fantasizing about men I don't know or I don't love and always hated masturbation. (Now I learned the term "friction sex" - yup, never liked this!)
To me, lovemaking has always been about spiritually meeting the other in the human bodies we live in. I have had such cosmic experiences that had NOTHING to do with what sex was supposed to look like in my head (thanks to the porn industry and mass culture). I recently was asked about my greatest sexual experience and I was like, Well, when the souls make love. I was laughed at.
That's exactly why this book spoke volumes to me. It explains sex the way I always thought it is supposed to be. A spiritual connection that is full of love, intimacy, honesty, trust, beauty, vulnerability, magic and joy. So much to learn there, explore and experience. Oh my! <3
Also, the book is a great entry point, I thought as a newbie in the subject. Deep, inspiring, not to technical and generally, very beautiful and positive.
I highly recommend this book. Everything she said, it was like I already knew deep down but appreciated it being put into words. It's all about connecting with yourself, the world around you, and other people on an open, loving, intuitive, and honest level. Reading this book along with being around loving people in an Valley in Vermont has helped bring me out of my depression. I spent many hours laying naked in sun at my favorite spot on the Mad River reading this book. The only thing I would change about this book is the title because I would say it isn't traditional tantra. It's not sexualized tantra either though.
This is a thought-provoking book that discusses the application of a tantric philosophy to life in general and to sexuality. Some parts of the book are very positive; other parts feel just as dogmatic as traditional Christianity (which is funny, because Bos is critical of traditional Christianity). I think, overall, there's a lot to learn here.
It is a light but practical book. I really appreciate Katrina’s ability to explore masculine and feminine polarities without falling into modern stereotypes and norms. Though, I get more out of her YouTube channel. I find her approach improves the framing of my personal life, though I’ve yet to successfully implement it in dating. I think her newest book might be more helpful in this regard.
