Heiress of Darkness Magic Reborn #2 Charlotte of Capthian has only known hardship. It’s not easy being the only daughter of a widowed healer, but when her mother’s chronic takes a turn for the worse, her mother tells her there’s a tree root five days’ journey south. Eager to cure her mother, Charlotte’s willing to make the journey alone, but then the five sons of Bartow the trapper insist Charlotte let them escort her while checking their traps. It’s the ideal solution, only there’s one she likes all five of brothers. How will she keep her feelings to herself? Soon they happen upon an abandoned temple in the mountains where a goddess appears and tells Charlotte that she’s the Heiress of Darkness. She has a part to play in the rebirth of magic, and she has five days to get to the temple in Pereta… or she will die. Oh, and there’s one small catch. She must sleep with all five brothers to bring her five elements of magic to life… or she dies.
A really good sequel. Reads like a YA novel with a reverse harem angle thrown in. Like the other reviewers said, the ending is a bit of a let down. But other than that, all good.

I already reviewed the first book and tho my opinion of this Duology being "MEH" has not changed nor has my scoring from book one to book two, both remain so for different reasons entirely.
The plot was much the same. Decent, not terrible not extraordinary. The characters: I thoroughly enjoyed these 6 as well. Ashlyn writes strong and versatile characters. The grammar and inconsistent details have improved greatly from book one to book two. Not much to be found in this one.
The real reason this book is getting 3 stars: Dear God almighty. If you are going to write two books about twin sisters who are supposed to be both rulers, one over light and one over dark, do not have one walk away completely in the end. DO NOT hype up the entire story of some huge battle between the two, have them finally meet face to face, having goddesses and guardians alike both goading them on and then, without so much as a real fight suddenly they re on the same side. The "villian" was only present in this book for all of 5 mins with a few lines too?? idk. the ending was 100% rushed, none of it made sense and the last line of the book had me dumbfounded. That was it? that was the end to the Duology? did you perhaps forget to write a third book??
this is going on my "wasted my time list" And it had to much promise...

Magic seems to be buried deep. And only by burying each of the 5 men's manhood deep in to Charlotte does it get released. So, truly with each orgasm, each release, an elemental piece of magic gets released to Charlotte. This is what fills her 5 day adventure to the temple. She does get a chance to meet her long lost sister. Read it to find out the outcome.
I read this book on the Kindle app and accessed it with my Kindle Unlimited subscription.
As this was only the second Reverse Harem book I had ever read (with the first being 'Heiress of Light' by Ashlyn Allbrook - book one in this series) I didn't really have any expectations except for smut, and that it may follow the same formula. I wasn't disappointed on either account. Sometime a girl just needs to read some romance. When I read romance novels though I find it important that there is a good story behind it, something that makes me empathize with the characters. It makes the experience more complete. I found that it had that story in a different way to the first installment. Instead of the men being ordered to guard the Heiress of Light, these Brothers chose to guard the heiress of darkness.
I did feel that the war the goddess's were trying to start could have been much better portrayed. The whole journey to get to the temple to stop the war and in the last 3 pages the whole war is averted? And SPOILERS the death of a main character (which I felt was necessary to differentiate the betrayal and redemption from one of the men in book one from the betrayal of one of her men in book two).
In summary: Smut yes, Romance yes, fulfilling plot - not really. Definitely a fun quick smutty read though.

Charlotte is the daughter of the village healer, a widowed mother of two daughters. Charlotte is following in her mother's footsteps as a healer but many in the village see her as a witch. Her pet raven doesn't help their view. When her mother's illness takes a turn for the worse, Charlotte is determined to journey south for a tree root to cure her. A local family of brothers agrees to accompany her along the way as they check their traps. As they approach an abandoned temple a goddess appears telling Charlotte that she’s the Heiress of Darkness. She is essential to the rebirth of magic, and she has five days to get to the temple in Pereta or die, and along the way, she must 'awaken' the elemental magic in each of her men. Then once there, she must fight her sister for the throne.
Like the first book, the characters were all likable. Charlotte made for a good heroine. She was unapologetically true to herself. She didn't compromise herself to make others more comfortable. Normalcy wasn't important to her. Family, her raven, her healing skills, and the brothers held pieces of her heart. The revelations about who she was, a sister, magic, goddesses, along with the admissions of the brothers' love made for a full story. My only complaint was that the ending was terribly rushed. It felt incomplete and unsatisfying after an entertaining story.
I had really enjoyed the first book but this one felt rushed. Certain sentences like “my black hair and dark brown eyes” when the character is speaking about herself to another person doesn’t make sense. Or when the character has an internal dialogue that includes the dimensions of a space. It doesn’t fit with how we know she talks general. It felt like the author wanted to impart the information but didn’t take the time to figure out where it could have better fit organically. Also, character development was lacking so I wasn’t as invested in these characters as in the first book. It’s still an enjoyable read, but not what I would expect as a follow up to Heiress of Light.
I loved this book compared to the first one. I honestly didn't want to read this one out of fear that it would be just as whiney and repetitive as the first, but I was pleasantly surprised. Lotta was a mush better MC the Elena was. She is strong and adaptive. unlike the first book she wasn't all "whoa is me!!" She struggled but still over came things and was open to brothers and magic a lot more the Elena was in the first book. The ending was rushed and I hate rushed endings, but over all it was a good read with better sex scenes than the first book.
This just wasn't great. The potential is definitely there but it just moved too quickly. The final battle was completely anti-climactic. I will not be continuing this series
Amazing book, amazing story, hot sex, all mixed up with magic, goddesses and Dracnas! I really hope we get to read more about this world. It's a really good one to get lost in!
This is the second book in the series and I can tell you that I have a new genre to read. This Fantasy book was amazing! Tears and happiness are the feelings that I had while reading it! I have found a new author to read!!
Not as good as first novel. It was just a rinse and repeat of the light version but in dark. There were subtle difference but not enough to make it a 5 Star. The ending was interesting. I hope there are continuation books. There was an opening for more and too many questions.
This book was everything a good book should be. It keeps you on the edge of your seat from the first page to the last. I cannot wait for the next book to come out and hope it is soon!
Completely enjoyed the first two books in this series. Read them both in a day because I had to know what was happening next with all this magic being reborn. You won’t regret starting these books.
Disappointed. I really liked the first book but the second one ended very abruptly. Seemed like the author ran out of time and quickly wrapped things up. The entire last part of the book moved way too fast and lots of details are just glossed over or thrown out there.
This was the perfect companion to the dark book. I was so heartbroken and surprised by all the plot twists. I hope there are more books in this series to come.
Loved the second book as much as I loved the first. Excited for what's to come. Writing is amazing, if u haven't started this series u r seriously missing out
It became repetitive, if you read the first book then you've read the second just different characters. I still enjoyed the writing but I wish the plot wasn't a replica of the first.
I enjoyed the second book more than the first. The one thing I know is that I feel incomplete, to the end I was expecting something, but it never came.
I enjoyed both books in the series, though I was disappointed with the kindle version of Heiress of Darkness as it was missing several pages that were blank.
What a build up to... nothing. Very disappointing ending, it's like the author just got tired of writing. Her first book in the series was great, but t his one's not worth reading.
