I loved the premise, but the I did not care for the heroine. There was just too much.

The heroine, her current husband, the step-son, and her daughter, and were in a car accident. The heroine was the only survivor. She feels numb and decides to move to a small town and take a job as a waitress in a bar. She meets the bar owner and from there their story begins.

Too confusing with the ex, step-son, etc. I am not sure why there had to be a ex-husband, current husband, step-son, and then daughter. Make that part simple. At times, I felt the story was all over the place. Writing style did not work for me. Later we find out that the heroine told her dead husband that she was not happy in the marriage weeks before the accident. Her "love" for the hero was her third rodeo. I disconnected. This would be her third marriage. I don't think the heroine knew what she wanted. Usually, I can't stand wishy-washy heroes, but in this story, I could not stand the wishy-washy heroine. The author probably wanted me to feel the heroine's pain, but I felt nothing for her.

The writing was too wordy.

My opinion.

Caroline is the only survivor of a car accident that kills her husband, step son and daughter. Devastated by the loss she spends months not really living and feeling nothing until one night.
Thump...
She feels her heart beating for the first time in months. Caroline immediately gets up packs a bag and starts driving. She drives for a week until she's getting gas in a small town in Alabama where she realizes she can finally breathe. Taking it as a sign she rents a small duplex and begins working at a bar where the owner is Trick.
Trick is instantly fascinated by this quite woman and wants to find out about her but she has a hard time letting anyone in.
Will she finally tell him her story and what will he do when he finds out?

This is a story about loss and survival and trusting someone again.

I've read a couple of other books from this author before but they were different from this one and they were brilliantly written too.

This story begins with a tragic accident in which only Caroline survives and we fellow her and how she tries to deal with what happened. She ends up moving away and gets a job and this is where she meets Trick, I liked him right away. I have to say I loved them both, but my heart went out to Caroline, I can't even imagine how to try and rebuild and move on and get through something like this ? It's a wonderful, beautifully written story and enjoyed reading it very much.

Read on KU!!!

*** LISTENED TO THE AUDIO ***

Saving Caroline by K. Larsen is a beautiful story about a woman who tragically loses her family and then learns to find herself, and love, again.

The narrator, Bianca Pierson, did a wonderful job telling this story. Her voice is easy to listen to, she makes the characters of Linny and Trick come alive, and their emotions tangible.

Overall I really enjoyed listening to Saving Caroline.

** I received an audible code from the author for this book.

This is a short contemporary tragic romance. This is a stand alone, but I so wish there was another book. I got so attached to Caroline, she needs, deserves another story... please K! This is an book that touched all my emotions, it gave me the feels. Caroline's pain is heart wrenching and I understand her grief and guilt. I recommend this for adults only. Be warned to get a tissue box ready, tears will happen.

Caroline is a woman who's heart has been broken. She knows pain, real pain. She had to bury her family, she was left behind only to walk around feeling dead inside. Guilt is part of her everyday life. How can you live when you can not breathe? Caroline is at a loss as what to do, so she decides to start over. A place no one knows her, they don't know her grief, no one to talk about it, yes this is what she needs. Well maybe until she meets Trick... she will soon learn her sadness had brought her to him.

Trick is the owner of The Trick, a small bar in Alabama. He was in for a surprise when he meets the newly hired waitress Caroline. Instantly he is dedicated to finding out more about her. But Caroline puts up a fight, she wants her privacy. Trick decides to take it slow and be a friend to her. Which is exactly what she needs. Trick slowly is breaking her wall brick by brick. But when he finds out her whole story will he walk away?

"She already seems... broken, so you'd better handle her with care."

Saving Caroline is by K. Larsen. It is like her other books in that it deals with psychological issues. You feel like you know Caroline intimately and feel what she feels. It is an excellent book.
Caroline survived, or did she? One icy evening, Caroline, her husband, her step-son, and her daughter were on their way home when they were involved in a tragic accident. Caroline was the only survivor. She was physically alright; but emotionally, she was a mess. All her emotions are frozen and no one gets in. One day, she woke up from a nightmare and felt the overwhelming need to leave. She packed some things and set out in her car. She ends up in a small Alabama town. Here she finds a place to live and secures a job as a waitress in the town’s bar. Monetarily she doesn’t need the job; but takes it because it is so different from what she normally would do. Here she meets Trick who owns the bar. Can he help her? Will she let him in?

Caroline's story is heart wrenching. She suffers so much and can barely get through day to day life. She is tormented by nightmares which in turn makes her live off of barely any sleep. When she tries to start anew she did not factor in Trick. Trick is steadfast and true. I am not sure how he stayed single for so many years. I bet he has an interesting back story...
With the strength and love of others, saving Caroline becomes the main goal for everyone. (Hence the name.)
It's beautiful and Caroline will worm her way into the depths of your heart. This book is a great read, with great emotion.
