In a zany contemporary romance, Lonnie Kelley, a lowly temp at the Boston law firm of Twit & Bell, stumbles upon the corpse of her boss Beauregard Twit's partner, an experience that turns her life upside down as she searches for the perfect job and the perfect man. Original.
I know I gave this book a bit of a hard time while reading it, but the truth is, it's just too charmingly crazy not to like. Plus, I got my hands on a few of Winters's other novels when I was WAY too young to be reading them and thought I'd go back and read her debut as an adult. I was not disappointed, and I wish she was still writing chick lit (or, anything at all). She had her finger on the pulse of the early 2000s, I'd love to see what she could do with a novel that's more current.
The mystery was fun, the love story was cute, I can't really ask for anything more. Also: I lost my shit when Dominick and Lonnie caught Bette with her box of wine, I just... *wheeze*, Anyway, no, it was a fun time.

This was a cross between a romance and a cozy mystery. I got it for free or maybe for $1 on my Kindle. It was entertaining and it kept my interest, but if this is a series, I won't be reading anymore. I know this wasn't intended to be a great work of literature, but I think the characters should behave in realistic ways. The heroine here was an idiot and immature. Why would she snoop around for the police at an office she only temps at? Why would she let a man who angrily dumped her manipulate her and guilt her into doing things she doesn't want to do? Put on your big girl panties and act like a woman!
I love a good romance mystery book! I read this book some years back and decided to reread it since I couldn't remember it much. I loved it again. The mystery was intriguing and the romance was spicy.
Overall it was an enjoyable read. Lonnie, who works as a "temp" at a law firm has a boss that is clueless to what her name is. She meets an acquaintance from her college days and is immediately drawn to him. However, she keeps sabotaging herself and frustrates the reader to see if she will eventually grab what is good in front of her. She discovers the dead body of one of the bosses at the law firm's party and it is Dominique who helps her through this. It was a fun, frustrating, quirky, romantic comedy-like book. I wanted to give it a 3.5 stars but now sure how in the rating system.
This book is well written and the storyline is easy to follow. It is sassy and romantic with some very sensuous scenes thrown in. The only thing I didn't like was the explicit parts. But that just isn't something I enjoy. But overall quite enjoyable.
frustrating! the main character is such a wimp and kept sabotaging herself. fun at first and then I just wanted to kick her. fun quick read first half: annoying second. oh well.
cute story. a little slow at times. only major complaint - i had a hard time picturing the characters - physical descriptions were not really complete.
