I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the tale. At first the narrating of the author was annoying, but since I couldn't just read by myself (audiobooks are for work and driving), I had to put up with it. Very fast I was absorbed into the world of the mysterious knight, the whole description of that place, that knight, his feelings, his confusion, and his friends. It was described so subtly, intertwined into the story with no efforts, or a moment of boredom, and yet it was rich, and I could feel as if I was there with the knight.
It is very rare that a book makes me laugh out loud. But there were a few times that I had a smile plastered to my face, and a number of times that I couldn't control my laugh, and laughed together with everyone in the book. There wasn't even a moment when I felt truly anxious or scared, I felt so as one with the knight, that every turn of events, was not to make me nervous, but rather excited to take on a new quest with the most in control, and capable knight there is.
The Characters are also well portrayed. Their stories, their feelings, their history, and the complex feelings and desires makes them all just very much human beings, and not a just a character of a book that is either good or evil.
there is still yet to come, I haven't finished the second book yet, but I so can't wait to find out how everything is going to play out.
Would recommend to grab the book and read it, if you like stories that are more complex, and less of cliche.
I've been looking for this book for years! It is still my favorite all time trilogy and is over all an amazing well written work of art! I'm so happy it got published!!
this book is garbage... with the caveat that it might just be setting the world and future books might be better.
If I had read this before the series was finished there would be no reason at all that I would keep buying the books, but since I got all of them at once, I think I'll finish it.
My review: This "fantasy" tale started with a cliche (amnesia,) then padded pages almost exclusively with imagined genealogy and continued forward w/a facetless superhero.
In truth this felt like female wish-fulfillment fan-fic but w/o well-known characters, just well-worn, overused cliche.
