Introducing Book 2 Of the Lowells of Honeywell, Texas series! Be prepared for hunky men in uniform and strong women refusing to be in distress. This is a sexy male/female book with a happy ever after! No Cliffhangers here!
Cheyenne has too much on her table to even consider letting a man into her life, especially now that it seems her abusive ex is sniffing around her daughters. She’s terrified that he’s going to want to insert himself into their lives again. Sheriff Sheridan Lane was unable to rescue the beautiful Cheyenne in time seven years ago, but he’s going to do everything in his power to make sure she and her girls stay safe this time around. The best way to do that is to move them into his house where he can keep an eye on everything. His own daughter isn't wild about the prospect, but even she starts to come around. Once they’re under his roof, it’s so easy to envision the temporary turning into the permanent. He vows to catch the bad guy, but what else will he have to do to prove he’s the man for Cheyenne?
NY Times and USA Today Bestselling author J.M. Madden writes compelling romances between 'combat modified' military men and the women who love them. J.M. Madden loves any and all good love stories, most particularly her own. She has two beautiful children and a husband who always keeps her on her toes.
J.M. was a Deputy Sheriff in Ohio for nine years, until hubby moved the clan to Kentucky. When not chasing the family around, she's at the computer, reading and writing, perfecting her craft. She occasionally takes breaks to feed her animal horde and is trying to control her office-supply addiction, but both tasks are uphill battles. Happily, she is writing full-time and always has several projects in the works. She also dearly loves to hear from readers! So, drop her a line. She'll respond.
Sweet romance between two people who get a second chance at love.
Cheyenne Lowell thought she married the man of her dreams. That dream turned into a nightmare she barely survived. But survive she did and has been raising her 3 daughters along with the help of her family.
Sheridan Lane also married the woman of his dreams. They had a daughter and a wonderful marriage until a rare form of breast cancer took her life. Now he is the Sheriff and a single dad of a teenage daughter. He is also the man that found Cheyenne naked and beaten within an inch of her life laying on her front lawn 7 years ago.
For seven years shame has made Cheyenne avoid Sheridan. She didn't want to face the man that had seen her at her all time lowest. For Sheridan, that night showed him what a strong woman she was who survived a brutal attack from her husband and has been patiently waiting for her to work through her issues so they could become friends and possibly more. What is takes to make that happen is her Ex getting paroled early and no one informed of his release until days later. Sheridan wasn't able to protect her the first time but this time he is going to do everything he can to protect her and her girls.
The preparations for Chad and Lora's wedding move along also. All of the LNF guys and their wives arrive at the Ranch for the party – always great to see past characters.. Next up is Emily and Jackson's story which looks to be explosive... Can't wait..
3.25-3.5 RATING- I love the authors Lost and Found series so wanted to give this new series a try. I didn't read the first book and didn't have any issues, this worked fine as a stand-alone. Overall, I liked it. It was a pretty straightforward contemporary romance with a damsel in distress and a lawman hero that'll do anything to protect her. My favorite. The writing was solid and the story was very readable. I just felt like there was a little something missing. Maybe I wish it was a little sexier or the story line more developed, I'm not sure. It just needed a little extra punch of something. I don't regret reading it though, I did enjoy it, I just didn't love it. I do plan to go back and read book one in the series when I have time and then the new releases when available.
Cheyenne and Sheridan's book is such a sweet and tender love story. I cheered when Cheyenne found her voice and stood up for herself and her daughters. She had a lot walls built around her due to her past with her ex-husband so I loved that she realized her self-worth. Sheridan was beyond swoonworthy with his patience and strong presence in her life. He knew he wanted Cheyenne and once he got past his own heartbreak, his quiet determination to win her heart was so lovely and heartfelt.
Cheyenne and Sheridan's journey to their HEA was a wonderful read.
ARC received from author in exchange for an honest review.
Can Cheyenne and Sheridan finally get their second chance at love?
Naughty by Nature is the second book in the author's new series about the Lowell's of Honeywell, Texas. I have every book of Ms. Madden's LNF series and so far I'm enjoying this new series also this one has been my favorite so far just because of Gracie's antics alone.
Cheyenne Lowell has come through the dark times from her abusive ex-husband and has managed to not only survive but make a good life for her three girls. But that may all come to an end when Sheridan has to tell her that her ex is out of prison. But he also wants her to know of his own feelings for her. Can they manage to heal each other and when the past comes to claim what isn't his anymore?
Sheridan Lane is not only the Sheriff but he's held back on telling Cheyenne how he feels for her. His daughter is heading into teenage angst missing her mother who passed away from a rare breast cancer. But when Cheyenne is faced with her ex returning to town, Sheridan will do anything to keep both her and the three girls safe even have them move in with him.
It looks like the Lowell family will be growing when they attend Chad and Lora's bridal shower but Brock and Payton's is next with Cheyenne and Sheridan following close behind. I loved this book and give it 4.8 stars. I'm looking forward to reading Emily and Jackson's story next.
I received this story for free in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Ms. Madden has done it again. Cheyenne Lowell has not had an easy life in the last 7 years. She is a single mom to 3 daughters and the youngest Grace is quite a handful. She is trying to juggle single parenthood, a job, and planning her brother Chad's wedding shower. She has not time for a man but especially not Sheriff Sheridan Lane. Her abusive ex comes back to town and he wants the family that we left behind while in jail.
Sheriff Lane is a widower with a 16 year old daughter who is a bit moody as teenagers often are. I think she just misses her mom and has been without her for the past 8 years.
Cheyenne reluctantly agrees to move in to his house in order to protect her girls and the story that unfolds from there is full of fun, love, a bit a danger but most of all strength. Cheyenne finds her inner strength when when she needs it the most and she realizes she is strong than she knows.
I also enjoyed catching up with the gang from LNF as they were there for the shower. I can't wait to find out what comes next. The Lowells of Honeywell are so much fun to read that I hate to see the book end.
This book was definitely more sedate than the Madden's usual books, but I still enjoyed it.
This is Cheyenne's story. Sheridan, has wanted to date Cheyenne for years. He was the one that found her bloody and broken on her front lawn after her husband had raped her and left her out there naked.
Her ex, Wade comes into play in this book, when he is released from jail.
We also get a bit more insight into Sheridan's marriage to his wife prior to her passing.
This was definitely an ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh book for me. I loved Cheyenne's children, especially Grace, with her antics and practical jokes. Sheridan's daughter, Olivia I thought I wouldn't like, but quickly changed my mind about.
I thought the romance between this one was quiet and the only reason it happened was the threat to Cheyenne. I think had that not happened both Sheridan and Cheyenne would have kept circling each other, neither having to guts to go after what they wanted. I liked that Sheridan took advantage of the situation to make his move on Cheyenne, what makes it good is that he didn't hide his feelings or what he was doing. That allowed Cheyenne to really think if she wanted a relationship with Sheridan, which she needed after what happened with her ex.
I loved how the kids reacted, loved that Cheyenne's girls seemed to bring some peace to Sheridan, even if the house was crazy. I liked that Olivia found what she lost when her mom died.
The ending was great, loved seeing Chad's engagement part and all the fun guys from Lost and Found. Can't wait for the wedding!
I am enjoying this series... this one was the best for me so far. But... but... I just feel that there seems to be a race to get through the plot without actually resolving it. There seems to be a fair amount of groundwork laid ( same with Untying His Not ) but no real pay-off. Everything seems to be played out off-stage with the reader given very little access or insight to what was going to happen. I get that these are love stories at heart... but a little more depth with plotting would be appreciated!
On the re-read... still feel the same. No conclusion to the Wade story-line...
To say that I loved this story would be such an understatement. Cheyenne and Sheridan are so real and so honest, not only with each other, but with themselves. There’s so much pain in their pasts that they both could be very bitter people, but they’re not. They are both survivors and strong, in their own ways.
Sheridan is physically strong, the County Sherriff. He’s big and imposing, tall, muscled, and he can literally be the strong arm of the law, but he knows all too well that there are things in life he can’t protect his loved ones from. Like Cancer. His wife died so quickly, leaving him and his daughter alone and bereft. This big, strong man was helpless to stop it, but he managed to carry on.
Cheyenne was raised in a big, loving family, full of strong personalities. She put her heart and soul into everything, including her marriage, even when it all went horribly wrong. She endured terrible abuse at the hands of the man who was supposed to love and cherish her forever, because he’d suffered a career-ending injury and took he rage out on her. It wasn’t until he nearly killed her, leaving her for dead, and renouncing their three little girls that turned her life around.
It was Sheridan that answered the 911 call that fateful night, and arrested Cheyenne’s husband. It takes seven years for Cheyenne to put the pieces of her shattered self-esteem back together, and this is where we find them at the beginning of “Naughty by Nature.”
Sheridan has been patient all this time; quietly supportive, achingly in love with Cheyenne, but expecting nothing from her, knowing all she’s been through. I love watching their interactions not only with each other, but with their children. There’s no crazy drama or theatrics with misunderstandings here. Sheridan and Cheyenne are realistic adults with real feelings and problems, and their kids are sweet and real, too.
This is a couple that knows life is hard, and they’ve realized that not only are they strong, but they’re stronger together. Cheyenne can finally ask for help when she needs it, and Sheridan can finally give it, just when she needs it most.
Now you know their past so go ahead, and take a chance on their future. You won’t regret it.
I received a free complimentary book and voluntarily reviewed it.
This is a fascinating book that involves issues with domestic violence. Once I started reading it, I couldn’t put it down until I finished it.
The main characters are Cheyenne and Sheridan. Cheyenne was married to an abusive man. Eventually, he beat her so severely that she ended up in the hospital, and he ended up in jail.
Sheridan is the sheriff of the town, who has always had a “crush” on Cheyenne. Unfortunately, he feels guilty because he had noticed a black eye earlier, but had allowed Cheyenne to talk him out of pressing charges.
I love the characters in this story. Cheyenne has never really gotten over everything, so she was very wary, especially with men. However, she has two daughters, and she never lets any of her emotions to creep into her relationship with them. I think Ms. Madden does an excellent job of allowing the reader to understand how Cheyenne feels without being graphic.
On the other hand, Sheridan is the ideal man for any woman but, especially one who has gone through the violence that Cheyenne has. He wants to date her, but he takes his time until she is ready. He is extra careful about his actions and takes their relationship very slowly.
What I especially love about this story is that there is no anger, violence or misunderstandings between Sheridan, Cheyenne or their daughters. I also appreciate that Ms. Madden treats Cheyenne with respect and sensitivity as she works to overcome her fear.
I love this author. I have read all of the books in her “Lost and Found” series in which she deals with many issues of ex-military men. Again, she treats these issues realistically, yet with respect and admiration for these heroes.
Even though Naughty by Nature is the second book in the series, it is not necessary to have read the first book to enjoy this book. I highly recommend this book.
Slight trigger warning: spousal abuse and mention of rape in form of flashbacks to incident
We are now on Book 2 of The Lowell Family series and I have to say I was anxiously awaiting Cheyanne's story! She is the sister who is raising her three beautiful, energetic girls alone. Why? Because her husband was an abuser and she is still picking up the pieces. Enter into the picture Sheridan Lane, the smoking hot, long time widowed sheriff. No question he has had his eye on Cheyanne for a long time but she is still so skittish around men he dares not get too close, he doesn't want to scare her off.
We learn of the final abusive incident that finally landed Cheyanne's husband in jail. We get a glimpse into it from both Sheridan's And Cheyanne's perspective. We also get a reader understanding of why Cheyanne has avoided Sheridan all these years. But as always, fate has a way of intervening. And in order to protect Cheyanne from her abusive ex-husband Sheridan decides the entire family should move into his house, with him as well as his teenage daughter.
As you can imagine this story contains heartbreak, how could it not, but it is full to the brim with love, laughter, sweetness and an overall desire to root for this couple to make this situation permanent! I promise you, this is, without a doubt, another amazing story from Ms. J.M. Madden!
Author JM Madden's Lost and Found series introduced us to the Lowell family of Honeywell, Texas through Chad and Lora's story. Book one of this series brought Chad's brother Brock and Peyton's story. This book brings Cheyenne (sister to Chad and Brock) and Sheriff Sheridan's story. The other two books were great. Lots of suspense. Lots of hurdles to overcome for love. Lots of steamy sex.
This book is slightly different because Cheyenne's background is tragic as the survivor of a brutal attack and left for dead and as a single mother of three girls. Sheridan has survived the loss of his wife and is the single father of an unhappy teen daughter. Sheridan is ready for Cheyenne but Cheyenne isn't ready for love.
This book still has all the suspense and hurdles of the previous two books, but it has more sweetness than the other two. Cheyenne needed Sheridan's sweetness to heal. Her girls needed Sheridan as well. And Sheridan's daughter needed 3 little girls to look up to her and Cheyenne to love her too.
This book was different. This book has the hot. It has the suspense and hurdles. But it has sweet too. And for Cheyenne, Sheridan, and their families, that makes all the difference.
First, I rushed through a book I was reading just to start this one (I'm a book monogamist, I cannot juggle more than one book at a time, my hats off to those of you who can). Second, I devoured this book in one day. I adore the LnF series, and love to read anything that will give me some insight to the characters I've previously become infatuated with...I mean read about. I have longed for more backstory/info on Chad's family since his and Lora's book, and this did not disappoint. You can read it as a stand alone book and not be lost, but as a continuation of the series and the Lowell's spinoff series it is just what I've been looking for. We finally get the full background on Cheyenne and her girls. Cheyenne is a sweetheart who seems to be chugging through life without really living for herself. Sheridan is a man who has had love and loss and is trying to balance his sheriff duties with parenting a teenage daughter. He finally gets the opening with Cheyenne he's been waiting years for. I am seriously happy I read this book, and now that I've been updated on some of my favorite past characters I kinda want to start the series over from the beginning again...
J.M.Madden knows she can write a good story! This is book 2 of her new series The Lowell's of Honeywell, Texas. Cheyenne has been through hell. Abused by her husband, she is left alone to raise 3 daughters. Sheriff Sheridan Lane, a widower with a teenage daughter, has watched Cheyenne from afar. He feels guilty because he feels like he didn't do enough to protect her from her abusive husband Wade. When Wade is released from prison, Sheridan decides to remedy that and moves Cheyenne and her girls in with him to watch over her. Ms. Madden shows how a woman, with time and kindness, can put behind her abusive history and find trust and love again. She also shows how a young girl who lost her mother at an early age can open up and become part of a family again. You do not need to read Book 1, as this is a standalone, but characters from Book 1 are in there as are some characters from the Lost and Found Series. It was a treat to see them. I am looking forward to Book 3. I was given a complimentary copy of this book and was not required to give a positive review. The opinion is my own.
Sheridan saw Cheyenne when she was most vulnerable on the worst day of her life. For years she was unable to separate the fact that he was a great man from the day of her greatest shame. Finally enough time has passed that she is able to see him for what he is. Sheridan is a widowed dad of a teenage girl, not an easy thing in the best of times. Cheyenne is the divorced mother of three with an ex that has just been released from prison. Cheyenne is the sister of Chad Lowell in the Lost and Found series. While that was a fantastic series this book can stand alone without having read the other books. Cheyenne and the girls temporarily move in with gentle, caring, protective Sheridan, who is a Sheriff, and has sworn to keep them safe. Although this is a slow burn, when they get to a pool scene in Chapter 15 they almost caught the pages on fire. Great story, developed characters, well edited and a happy ever after.
Now, this has become my second favorite story of the author. Sheridan and Cheyenne story was so much more than what I expected. So many lessons, so much support, so much respect, so much trust and love. Who could not love Sheridan as he was protective, open, and sincere. No pity for the woman he saw at a time that was her lowest but admiration for the strength in which she used to bounce back.
As a woman I was in awe of Cheyenne and cheered her one every step of the way. Provided strength to a fictional character when I felt she needed it most. A single mother in unity of playing a bad hand with skill and with her head held high. I couldn’t not love it.
The comic relief with Grace plus the maturity when need of all four girls reminded me of the bond my three boys share. J.M. Madden ROCKED this touchy subject out of the park.
P.S. I was happy to see the gang make an appearance at the end for the party.
Having a personal attachment to a deputy I'm partial to law enforcement characters, especially those of the Sheridan Lane variety. It took years for Sheridan to get Cheyenne to talk to him after the worst night of her life. Giving her space was the best and hardest thing for him. She has three girls and he has a teenager, often they stole my heart with their crazy antics. This is the second novel in the series, after Brock and Payton, and the novella for Chad and Lora. While their story is independent some of the characters carryover from book one and the Lost and Found Series. You could jump right in but then you'll want to start at the beginning later anyway so start with the novella and just enjoy the Lowell family. I received my copy from the author but my review was written voluntarily without bias.
Naughty By Nature by J.M. Madden is a fantastic contemporary romance. No wonder I love this author's books. Ms. Madden has given readers a well-written book furnished with a stellar cast of characters. Cheyenne's husband abused her until one night when he beat her and left her in the yard to die. Sheridan found her that night and as sheriff, he plans to never let it happen again. Cheyenne and Sheridan's story loaded with humor, drama, sexy bits, action and suspense and is fast-paced and once started, impossible to put down. I loved every page and can't wait for my next book by J.M. Madden. Naughty By Nature is book 2 of The Lowells of Honeywell, Texas but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I read a print copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I'll have to say up front that Sheriff Sheridan Lane is too good to be true. He's kind, caring, strong, protective, sexy and good-hearted. He's been somewhat especially protective from a distance of Cheyenne since her now ex-husband raped, beat her up and left her for dead in their front yard several years ago. The ex, Wade, is out of prison on parole but not happy with how things are. Sheridan has Cheyenne and her three girls come stay at his place until they can locate Wade and see what he's up to. Can something good come out of this bad situation? Can Sheridan and Cheyenne's time spent together help fill an empty place in each others lives? I love a good romance. Started the book and didn't put it down until I finished.
Cheyenne has been interesting from the beginning when we first met her in Chad and Sara's story. Now we get to see all the details of what happened and watch her really reclaim her life. Sheridan is the perfect man to turn her thoughts around and Payton her best friend provides fantastic insight. I really love this series. I enjoy every word on the page. JM also writes terrific young girls! The joy and antics are perfect for Grace and Olivia as a brooding teen was spot on. You do not have to read the series to get joy from this story but it will be far more meaningful if you do. Bravo Jeannifer! Write On! January seems so long to wait for an update! I will be patient. Maybe Chey and Sheridan will get a baby on board? That would be cool. Davia
I think Sheridan and Cheyenne are my favorite couple. They had a sweet romance. I liked the way Sheridan wanted to take care of and protect Cheyenne and her girls.
At first it seemed like an instalove situation, but after hearing both of their stories, I could see there was more to their relationship. As usual, when things are going well, the other shoe is just waiting to drop.
I admired the way Cheyenne was able to release her fear, especially considering the trauma she endured. My admiration increased when she confronted her nightmare.
I liked the way Sheridan and Cheyenne were able to blend their families with very little angst. And I enjoyed the humor Grace brought into their lives. I wish there had been more information about that last stunt Grace pulled.
I think I have read everything J.m Madden has out there and I have loved all of them. With this newest series, we get to see the roots of one of the LNF members, and watch his happiness spread to his family back in Texas. This is Cheyenne’s story. She overcame tragedy once in her life, but can she do it again? And will she let the Sheriff help her, or will she continue to shut him out like she has for 7 years? I loved the story, it’s a quick read, and leaves you longing for the next book. And I loved seeing all of the LNF guys under one roof, with a quick update on each one!
I loved this book so much and I definitely need to find my very own Sheridan! He is such a sensitive, loving person who knows what he wants and sticks to his guns. And when Cheyenne finally realizes how she has been treating Sheridan the sparks sure begin to fly. All of the girls are great too -- love, love, love how naughty Grace is. I enjoyed catching up with some of our favorites from previous books and series -- just gotta love John. I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book and was completely entranced by it (it certainly kept me up so late last night).
Sheriff Sheridan Lane saw Cheyenne at her most vulnerable seven years ago. Since then her life has revolved around her daughters, work and living with an abusive past.
The loss of Sheridan’s wife has left him empty and at a loss on how to deal with a teenager daughter that was never the same after her mother died.
When Cheyenne’s abusive ex is released from prison early all of her fears come rushing forward and Sheridan steps in with a solution.
Great H/h with good flow and an sweet romantic storyline.
Cheyenne And Sheridan are perfect for each other. Sheridan is just what Cheyenne and her daughters need to be completely free from her ex- husband and all he’s put them through. When her ex gets out of prison unexpectedly since no one notified either Cheyenne or Sheridan, Sheridan does everything in his power to protect her and her daughters! I could not put this down until I had finished it! Ms. Madden knows how to weave a story to keep you in the edge of your seats! Highly recommend this series as well as her Lost & Found series!
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my review.
JM knocks it out of the park AGAIN!! The writing is clean and crisp. The characters are real with real issues. The children are written to be kids - no brats or perfect angels. I also liked that the LNF crew made appearances but the story didn't depend on them.
I make it a point to read ANYTHING that JM writes and I haven't been disappointed yet.
Cheyenne thought she had the love of a life time but he turned into her nightmare. A mother of 3 girls she hopes to raise so they dont have nightmares.... Sheridan has the love of a life time but she Was taken ....... with his daughter he goes on.... A sheriff A teacher and their past goes on a emotional journey that has you turning pages, having hope and let you feel each word As you read. Thank you JM Madden for another amazing book.
I just love Cheyenne and Sheridan! Such a heartwarming romance! I liked the added element of action and little bit of suspense. My only complaint was the ending felt a touch abrupt. I was surprised things moved that quickly after everything it took to get to that place, especially for Cheyenne. I think I also wanted to see a bit more with Olivia. However, I did love Chad and Lora's engagement party and thought that was such a nice touch. Looking forward to Emily's story!
Cheyenne's husband is in jail for beating her unconscious and raping her. Actually, he's her ex now. She has closed herself off from men and is focused on raising her three girls. When her ex is paroled, Sheridan keeps her safe. He's the sheriff and is the person who found her after she'd been raped.
Their relationship develops slowly as Cheyenne realizes she can open up to Sheridan. Threats from the ex heighten the tension. This is a sweet romance with an HEA.
Sheridan Lane gives Cheyenne something she has had in over eight years...confidence. he also makes her feel adored, cherished and sexy. For her part Cheyenne Lowell filled up his senses with happiness and warmth. She and her three daughters have made his house a home filled with joy and laughter. Keeping Cheyenne safe from a menacing ex-husband is Sheridan's job. Getting her to marry him is his mission.
