BUSHMORE'S DARK SECRETS

Rate this book
“I’ll regret my actions until my dying day.”

Millionaire businessman Jack Gillings is on his deathbed when he hands his father a manuscript chronicling the events that forced their family to move from their home town thirty-two years earlier.
When five mates alone in the forest make a decision that will change their lives forever, Jack learns that trust does not always run parallel with preconceived ideology, in events still causing ripples throughout today's society.

Bushmore's Dark Secrets is a story of trust, lies and the structures within society we are conditioned to abide by. Do we trust in each other, do we place our trust in these structures or do we rely on life's experiences to forge our own destiny?

Set high up in the forest of the Otway Ranges where Victoria’s famous Great Ocean Road threads its path along the harsh south west coast, this enthralling, thought-provoking Australian psychological thriller will keep you in suspense to the very last page.

Some secrets remain buried forever, or do they?

Loved this book and loved the reality of life for a kids in a bush town and I know because I was raised in a rural place!!
I also like the way some characters were acting out and not really knowing why till the epilogue.
It also highlighted stupid drunken thinking when the town toughs went out to shoot the Nick the bush hermit as they wrongfully believed him as the murderer because of who he was when in actual fact he stood as the most honourable.
I could write much more but will simply say great read and well worth it.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book! Felt like a fun, light-hearted read with serious messages throughout. Was great, the characters were fantastic. Jack's relationships are really well thought out and felt like I could relate despite being from totally different worlds. Looking forward to reading more from Peter.

Just finished "Bushmore's Dark Secrets". What a story! The trials and tribulations of those teenage years are vividly described and even the reasons behind the behaviour of the villain who meets an untimely end are revealed at the end so the reader has some sympathy for him. Our hero, Jack, goes through a crisis of conscience: we feel for him. As a town crier of the times in which we live, Peter Edwards has highlighted some of the iniquities and atrocities we read about in the daily press, making his characters come to life. Highly recommended.

I feel like with a bit more thought and intensive editing, this could have been a five star story. The bones are good, it lacks flesh.
