⁺˚⋆。° 🎻 My Thoughts 🎻 °。⋆˚⁺
Eeek this book was literally so cute. It is my absolute favorite one in the series. I started this series in 7th grade and still own the old wattpad copies. It’s now been about 5 years and the second I saw Heartstrings was finally on Netgalley I requested it. Xander has been my favorite since book 1 and I couldn’t wait another second to get my hands on his love story.
I really like how she made the cussing less frequent in this book and how it was a lot less lusty, which I felt fit the characters much better.

⁺˚⋆。° 👻 The Plot 👻 °。⋆˚⁺
The plot was 🤌🤌🤌
I was able to connect with all of the characters and their struggles. I loved getting to see more of Violet’s story from Paper Hearts and how it affected Indie.
Xander and Indie’s love story was just so wholesome, and I found myself giggling like a maniac every time they interacted. I don’t want to spoil too much, but what he did for her on Halloween and what he wrote for her literally had me swooning. They are 100% my favorite Heartbreakers couple fs.
This book would’ve been 5 a five star read if it weren’t for the 3rd act break up, though she did handle everything. The scene where they reconciled was so cute and I liked how they genuinely addressed their faults.
I gotta say I hope someone actually adapts the songs they write in all the books bc I would SOOO stream them.

⁺˚⋆。° 👽 Characters 👽 °。⋆˚⁺
Indie: I have to admit, her character was a pain in the butt at first but I grew to like her more throughout the book. She was extremely self-centered, but I liked how she actually addressed it and apologized by the end. I loved how she represented the characters with body issues but also didn’t make it the main point of her personality, and I especially loved how much of a dork she was. The only thing is I’m not really sure what was going on with her crystal pendant and pentacle earrings, but they didn’t really go into it so I was fine with it. Also her humor was top tier, I really did grow to love her character.
╰┈> Keep Your Head Up Princess - Anson Seabra ♫₊˚.
Xander: My. Freaking. Mannnsssssss. I’m sorry, but cute dorky boys are better than hot bad boys without a doubt in my mind. This man was no different. Can we talk about how freaking adorable he is?! And the song he wrote?! *swoons* He’s my little misunderstood cinnamon roll. He was literally so sweet to Indie the entire book and you could tell he would go to the moon and back for her. He skyrocketed to my top ten book bf list.
╰┈> I Wanna Be Yours - Arctic Monkeys ♫₊˚.

⁺˚⋆。° 🎥 Conclusion 🎥 °。⋆˚⁺
Read this book.
Read this series.
I’m begging you.
If you don’t care about minor spoilers from the other books, you could even read this one as a stand alone. The plot is amazing, the characters are amazing, you will NOT regret it.

Now I just have to sit back, relax, and wait for JJ’s story

I thinks this could be my favorite one of the series, I loved the history between Xander and Indie, it was beautiful I couldn’t put my phone down, I’m really looking forward to read the publish version I tried to resist and read it when it was released but I couldn’t.

Anyways this book was the best one yet as I said before, the writing got really really better than the other two ones and made me connect a lot more with the characters. I think indie is now my fovorite girl in this series and Xander may have climb up to my second favorite heartbreaker

*A special thank you to Netgalley and Sourcebooks Fire for early access to this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.*

These books are so easy to read. Like, I just barreled through each of them.

Now, they aren't bad and they aren't phenomenal. Hence the 3 star rating. I just wish we had more from Indie and Xander's story. It felt like their romance was more of a subplot to Indie's story with Violet. Xander remains one of the members of the band that we don't really know much about, despite this book being his. I just wanted more.

This book was also very juvenile. The issues between Indie and Violet just seemed so trivial. Like little kids fighting over the last cookie, or more accurately, for attention. This definitely read on the younger side of YA. So if you want maturity, this isn't the book for you.

I am, however, beyond excited for JJ's book next year. I feel like he's the most fledged out character in the series and I have been waiting for his book since the very beginning.

This is truly one of my favorite YA series. Being back in the Heartbreakers world was truly heart-warming - it was like I never left and while I still stand by my opinion that the first book is the best (lifelong Stella and Oliver fan here), this book is a close second. I loved Xander and Indie's character growth throughout the book - I had so much fun reading this book (and laughing at JJ's shenanigans!)

Also, I just found out that the final book is about JJ and Cara?!? I have never been more excited for a book to be released - cannot wait!

This is a sweet romance. Indie is a violinist and wants to pursue Juilliard. Xander is in a successful band. Violet, Indie's sister, is famous. There is a lot of sibling rivalry going on there.

This was such a lovely YA. Teenage against. Will they, won't they. Sibling rivalry. Parental frustrations. Moments of wanting to shake the FMC. Mixture of emotions felt while reading this. Definitely enjoyed it and will read more Ali Novak works. Thank you to NetGalley and Ali Novak for giving me the opportunity to read this.

Thank you NetGalley and Sourcebooks Fire for this ARC!

To start I just have to say that if you are like me and will harshly judge a book by the first 15% and decide to pick up this book, then I beg you to give it a chance. When I started this book I was super excited to read the nest book in the Heartbreak Chronicles series, but was let down because I found both Indie and Violet absolutley insufferable.

I have to say that I was on the hate train for both sides of their feud, but this book had some insane charecter developments. In the end I actually love both of them and am now guilt ridden over my early-on annoyance. This story unfolded so perfectly with every layer making me love the sisters more.

Now of course the love story was to die for (I can successfully say I've never read an Ali Novak love story that wasn't) and I LOVED Xander. From their meet cute to the epilogue I was giggling over Indie and Xander!!!

This was an adorable read and I reccomend it to anyone who likes a good rom-com but especially anyone with a soft spot for One Direction.

Every once in a while, you stumble across a YA romance that hits all the right notes—sweet, engaging, and surprisingly meaningful—one that makes you believe in first love all over again while reminding you why these stories still matter at every age.

I found it to be a sweet and endearing YA romance—one that teens will love, but mature readers can easily enjoy as well. It’s the kind of story that makes a high schooler dream about experiencing a similar whirlwind romance, while also giving older readers a nostalgic tug.

Beyond the love story, it has strong coming-of-age elements as the FMC learns more about herself outside of her first romance. I also really appreciated the food allergy representation. It doesn’t get nearly enough attention in books, yet it’s a serious issue that impacts so many people. Novak weaves it into the story with care—never heavy-handed, but in a way that feels both entertaining and educational for readers. Even better, she normalizes the awareness around food allergies without turning it into an “issue book,” which made it feel authentic and impactful.

The plot kept me fully engaged, and I ended up finishing it in a single sitting. Although it’s part of a series, it works beautifully as a standalone. You can sense that events have taken place before, but Novak does a wonderful job weaving in just enough background so you never feel lost. Even better, she does it in a way that makes you want to go back and read the first two books without worrying about spoilers, even if—like me—you start with book three.

I listened to the audiobook, narrated by Renée Chambliss, who captured the voice of an older teen perfectly, sass and all, while keeping a comfortable pace at 1x speed. Full disclosure: at first, I hadn’t realized this was YA, so when I heard her youthful tone, I felt a little dread since it’s not a narration style I typically enjoy. I bumped the speed up to 2x, which helped, and once I fully understood the FMC’s age, her vocal choices made complete sense—and that shift in perspective softened my initial hesitation.

The book releases on October 14, 2025, and it would make a perfect holiday gift (or just-because gift) for the teen reader in your life. The bonus? You can read it too and enjoy the sweet, heartfelt romance as it unfolds.

A heartfelt YA romance that blends charm, authenticity, and meaningful representation, offering both a nostalgic tug for older readers and a relatable, empowering story for teens.

I was fortunate to receive a complimentary ALC from Macmillan Audio via NetGalley, which gave me the opportunity to share my voluntary thoughts.

How I Rate
Because I mostly read ARCs, I focus on how I think fellow readers with similar tastes will respond. I sometimes round up or down based on pacing, prose, or overall impact, and I try to keep my personal preferences from weighing too heavily.

⭐️ 1 Star – Finished, but not for me; I never DNF ARCs.
⭐️⭐️ 2 Stars – Struggled due to writing, content, or editing issues.
⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3 Stars – Decent read with untapped potential; recommend with some reservations.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4 Stars – Really enjoyed it and would recommend for several reasons.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 Stars – Exceptional; lingers in my mind well after reading. A story I’d gladly revisit.

Diving back into the world of The Heartbreakers was a ton of fun for me. I read the first two books on Wattpad back in the day and then I read the published version and then I even read part of this back in the day when there was a Wattpad version. But either way it's been years and so I'm so happy that the finished book is finally out.

Indie was a fun character to follow and I liked seeing her journey as she grew feelings for Xander and coped with how she felt about her sister Violet who is also super famous and her father who she had been ignored by for a very long time.

This book almost has a fanfic vibe without being a fanfic and I like that about it. It has a sort of quirky charm to it that made me like it even more than I normally would.

I do wish we could've spent more time on page with Xander specifically because we don't really get an impression of him outside of how Indie feels and how he treats Indie. We also don't really get much of her mother on page either outside of a couple emails, so seeing her a bit more would've been nice as well especially since it was evident how important their bond was to her.

But overall I had a pretty great time and I'm looking forward to book 4 hopefully getting released one day as well.

Thank you to NetGalley and SourceBooks Fire for the ARC to honestly review.

The romance is 5 stars!! ⭐️

I loved the romance between Indie and Xander! It was well paced and felt more realistic than some of this authors novels.
I felt the plot wasn’t quite my cup of tea though. This is one of the reasons for the rating. The other was for the (sometimes) frequent mild language , which always throws me off a little bit. Other than this I quite enjoyed the book. It was an easy light summer read. Perfect for when you don’t want to read something too heavy.
Would recommend if you like boy bands!😂

I really enjoyed Heartstrings (The Heartbreak Chronicles #3) by Ali Novak. I’ve loved following the boys from The Heartbreakers through their meet-cute stories, and so far Xander’s story has been my favorite. I also appreciated the older-sister/younger-sister dynamic and the growth and reconciliation between Indie and Violet. Since I remembered Violet from the previous book, it was fun to get more of a glimpse into her life with this one. I have a feeling we’ll be seeing more of her in the next one, too!

Indie’s immaturity and inward focus were a little frustrating at times (lots of eye-rolling on my end), but given that she’s a high schooler, it wasn’t surprising. The good news—she did grow, and I appreciated that she eventually owned up to her selfish behavior.

I loved getting to know Xander more. He’s always been the quiet one and I’ve been intrigued by him since the start. With his big heart, nerdy charm, and overall selflessness, you can’t help but love his character. It was so sweet to see him step out of his shell and grow as an individual, while also building his relationship with Indie. Together, they make the perfect pair.

If you’re into YA musician romances, meet-cutes, and friends-to-lovers, this one is for you.

Tropes: musician romance, meet-cute, friends to lovers, sibling dynamics, YA coming of age
Spice: kissing only
Content warnings: loneliness, teen drinking, lying/deception, parental divorce (past), sibling conflict, crude humor, immaturity typical of YA characters

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
3.5 Stars (Rounded up for Goodreads)

Heartstrings is the third in a series but works just as well as standalone, only mentioning the other two books characters and being a different love story.

It is not only a story about Xavier and Indie’s love, but also a story about sisters and misunderstandings. I found this part of the story a lot more compelling than the romance aspect. Indie’s anger felt real and complete, and Violet’s hurt and frustration equaled that.

However, that doesn’t mean Xavier and Indie’s weren’t nice to read about. They were cute, not being anything special, but I never questioned whether or not they cared about the other. Their love story felt whole.

*Slight Spoilers in the next paragraph*
Though, I do believe that Indie being upset at Xavier for him doing a song with Violet felt very unreasonable towards him and should have been more of a tension plot for Xavier to be upset. He was doing it for his career, and both him and Violet were friends. Though I do understand that Indue felt as if she didn’t have anything of her own, but it felt it was scuffed over on Xavier’s feelings towards it.

One of my more nick picks, is being tired of plus size mc’s being like I don’t think he could ever like me because of my weight and look. It was only talked in one chapter, even saying that Indie wouldn’t change for a guy, but man, do I want a plus size mc’s to be confident in their body for once. Though, I do understand this was a deeper rooted issue to comparing herself to her sister, I feel like this could have been displayed in a different way.

Overall, this book was average. I enjoyed it, but it isn’t anything spectacular. I wouldn’t go into this book expecting to be changed after. I would expect to have a fun adventure in the world of celebrities through the eyes of something who only adjacently popular because of family.

I had no idea this was part of a series, but I wanted to read it to see if it was something I could recommend to my high school students, and I definitely will suggest this for folks who love romance.
I enjoyed the overall premise of the book and enjoyed the friendship and then romance of Indie and Xander, I did find Indie and Violet’s dad to be the worst (how is your name not on the approved list for your own home) but I appreciated the attempt of reconciliation at the end. The whole bit about the Juilliard application was a bit hard to swallow because, as someone who works with seniors, I can’t believe that someone auditioning for the most prestigious conservatory in the United States would be so blasé about it. Also, how did Xander and Indie not play music together until the end? Lost opportunity, in my opinion.
Overall, this was a fun read that I think some of my students would enjoy! Thank you to Sourcebooks Fire and Net Galley for the ARC!

So I don't think a particularly loved this book. At least is was my least favorite so far from what I remember of the other two. Which I do kind of feel really bad about since part of the book is Xander feeling like he isn't as interesting or exciting as the others.

I really liked how despite knowing/feeling that he is not as popular he doesn't automatically think that means he needs to be like the other band members, its more just a matter of communicating that with the other guys.

What I think I really didn't like was Indie. I think she reminded me a lot of the main character in another book recently that really bothered me (Francisca and the Forgotten) where she similarly blames her sister for a lot of her problems when the real fault really lies with her dad as well as Indie's lack of real communication and empathy in preference of just shutting down. It really annoyed me. She was just as much a part of the problem as the other two and she didn't even see that her sister had been trying for a while to bridge the gap. So yea I just found her really annoying, a brat even, and not relatable at all. She also immediately is like oh well he could never like me I shouldn't even consider it or even give him a chance to show her that he is interested and willing to make it work. She doesn't even try or give people opportunities to show her that they might be capable of doing things she doesn't expect. Also her feeling making Xander feel uncomfortable about recording the song with her sister also made me mad. She is clear at least that she isn't mad at him but she should have done a better job to be supportive. I have a little empathy here because she was at a tipping point when she finds out but, Jesus, her personal feelings should not be getting in the way of his desire to have professional growth.

The romance part was nice but a lot of it was overshadowed by my feelings about her.

The books in this series are feeling a little formulaic too. Quirky girl with an artsy, quirky interest. It just makes them feel very same-y even if they are different. Although the having a heavier protagonist was nice even if it really didn't impact the story all that much.

I'm not sad that I read it since I have such nostalgia for the series, but I will be curious to see how the book for JJ goes. He seems really annoying to me but ever since the first book and being rejected by Stella he has felt a little bit like a sad boi and does deserve to find someone that makes him happy. So who knows maybe it would get me to like him better.

Thank you to NetGalley, Sourcebooks Fire, Tantor Media, Tantor Audio, Ali Novak, and Renée Chambliss (audio narrator) for the opportunity to read and listen to the audiobook of Heartstrings in exchange for an honest review.
Heartstrings is the third installment to The Heartbreak Chronicles and follows Indie and her encounter and relationship with Heartbreakers band member Xander Jones. While it is best to read the books in order because you will get some spoilers about what happens in the previous installments as you go, I find that one could also enjoy any of the Heartbreakers books in any order; while the information does stack, the focus is mostly on the MMC and FMC for each novel.

Indie is always in the shadow of her famous actress sister, Violet. Her parents are so focused on Violet's career, they don't have time for Indie's violinist ambitions and Julliard application. Anytime she goes somewhere, she is just "Violet James' sister." One weekend, with the promise of meeting her favorite comic book creator at a convention, Violet is on a panel at the same convention and has Indie do all her side tasks, like grab coffee etcetera. Her own sister doesn't even seem to have a thought or care for the things that matter to her. Then she runs into someone who seems familiar...

It's Xander Jones from the Heartbreakers. And he is the first person EVER to not just recognize her as "Violet's sister." Their interaction turns into a friendly banter that leads to wanting to hang out more. In the previous novel, it is explained that Alec and Violet have a friendship, so Xander knows Violet through that, but also through his acting cameo on Immortal Nights, the vampire slayer TV show that Violet stars on. At least for Indie, she is getting to know Xander in a way that makes something special that can just be hers. Until Violet gets in the way, again.

This novel has all the perfect nuances of a young adult romance. The quirky meet-cute, the enjoyments of initial romance, and of course the tension and suspense that makes it more angsty. Oh, it wouldn't be a teen romance without the family and friendship drama, on top of the romance.

I adore The Heartbreak Chronicles. They are fast-paced, fun, and have the feel that a traditional teen romance should have. Will we be getting JJ's story next? He's a silly perv, but he definitely deserves his time to shine!

This was my first book from this author but I really enjoyed it! It was just so cute and happy to read! It's such a nice break between thrillers or darker novels. It definitely drew me in the want to finish it and see how the plot played out.

Xander and Indie's love story was just so wholesome, and I found myself really enjoying every time they interacted. It was just a sweet, wholesome, feelgood relationship which is so nice to read.

This book would've been a five star read if it weren't for the 3rd act break up, though Indie did handle everything in the end. The scene where they reconciled was so cute and I liked how they genuinely addressed their faults.

Looking at Indie her character was a pain in the butt at first but I grew to like her more throughout the book. She was extremely self-centered, but | liked how she actually addressed it and apologized by the end. I loved how she represented the characters with body issues but also didn't make it the main point of her personality, and I especially loved how much of a dork she was but it also wasn't her entire characterization. She just was who she was.

Xander was just the cutest! I appreciate cute dorky boys are in a different way than hot bad boys but I still enjoy both. Can we talk about how freaking adorable he is?! And the song he wrote?! He's a little misunderstood cinnamon roll. He was literally so sweet to Indie the entire book and you could tell he would go to the moon and back for her.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book especially as someone who doesn't normally read YA.

This is most definitely something I can see being made into a movie with a brilliant sound track and I would be there for it!

Give this a read for a bit of sweet cuteness!

Note: This review is for an ARC and is my unbiased opinion.

It's been a long time since I read the last book in The Heartbreak Chronicles, so I was surprised by how easy it was to pick up Heartstrings and not feel lost. I had so much fun being back in the band's world, specifically with Xander through Indie's eyes.

Indie was a great character. She felt like a real soon-to-be high school senior who was struggling with all of the changes growing up brought with it. Her particular situation, sister to a famous actress, daughter to divorced parents who were focused on their careers. He relationship with her sister was rocky and I loved what this brought to the story and what Indie learned from it. I was so entrenched in her feelings, that sometimes I was just as shocked as she was to discover things weren't always what she thought them to be. I also enjoyed the way the parental relationships impacted her. The growth and maturity in Indie were great to experience alongside her.

Indie's newfound relationship with Xander was the most fun part of this book. They were really cute together, and I enjoyed seeing their relationship blossom. Indie saw things in Xander that others didn't and vice versa. I loved the extra confidence her relationship with him gave him. It was so much fun to see them interact with the band members and previous characters.

Overall, this book was a great addition to the series. It was a book I had forgotten I wanted or needed. Current teens and older fans of this series are sure to love it.

Heartstrings is like the bookish equivalent of cotton candy. It’s light and fluffy and oh so sweet—just a delightful, easy treat of a book. It’s definitely not perfect—the prose is serviceable bordering on clunky and there is something a touch dated about it, like even though it was just released it was actually written in or for a cultural moment that is five or ten years past—but it’s a very fun, cute YA romance.

Indie and Xander have a sweet relationship. It’s definitely low key in a way that I actually really love for YA romances—that blush of first love, a first serious relationship, that is just allowed to exist in the moment instead of the book trying to make it into something more than it is. And Heartstrings does a great job at capturing something very authentic about teenage relationships—platonic and romantic alike. The way that Indie and Xander are playful and supportive and yet challenge each to chase the things they want rings true in a way that I’m always looking for in contemporary YA.

Heartstrings does get a bit heavy handed with some of its themes and lessons learned towards the end of the book. I definitely wish the dynamic between Indie and her family—particularly her sister—had gotten resolved with a bit more nuance and a bit more grace towards the idea that your feelings can be hurtful to the people around you and still be valid. But even so, I had a ton of fun with Heartstrings and I can’t wait for In a Heartbeat.

"Heartstrings" had a lot of really interesting moments and definitely kept me turning the pages, but I have to be honest—Indie, the main character, was extremely self-centered and honestly came off as kind of bratty sometimes. It wasn’t just that she made mistakes or had flaws (which is totally fine), but her decisions and attitude distracted me from really connecting with the plot, which was really good, along with her, because who wants to listen to someone complain all the time? There were times when I just wanted to yell at her and tell her to pay more attention to the people in her life who actually cared about her a lot instead of only thinking about herself and how other people "wronged" her. The other characters, aside from Indie, were really well written. I loved how down-to-earth all of the Heartbreakers members were, and Xander was definitely one of the most adorable love interests I have read about.

Also, I expected the romance to be a much bigger deal in the story, but it actually felt more like a side plot. Maybe it was the synopsis, or I got a little too annoyed at Indie to fully enjoy the other aspects of the plot. Most of the book was much more focused on Indie’s family drama and her college applications, which is fine, just not what I was expecting. Ali Novak did nail the family problems yet again, but if you're looking for something purely romance, this might not be your book.

Overall, "Heartstrings" was a decent read with some really good writing and real-life problems. It’s more about figuring out family and the future than finding love, and while that can be inspiring, just be prepared that Indie might get on your nerves.

I listened to the audiobook narrated by Renee Chambliss. It was very easy to listen to and she did a good job. This is the third book in the series but can be read as a stand-alone and overall I liked it. I got a bit annoyed with the heroine, Indie as she is rather immature. She is an eighteen-year-old senior in high school, so some degree of immaturity is to be expected. I found certain situations and arguments to be contrived but overall liked the growth of the character, especially concerning her sister.
Indie is a violin prodigy who is going to be applying to Julliard, but feels overshadowed by her older sister, Violet who is a the star of a hit television show. Her father is Violet's manager and never has time for Indie. Her parents also divorced and her mother now lives across the United States of America to chase her dreams of playing professionally that she put on hold to raise her family. Therefore, Indie feels very alone and isolated. Violet asks her to fill in as her personal assistant at Comic-con and Indie begrudgingly agrees. While there she meets Xander Jones, the lead guitarist for the band Heartbreakers, which her friend Alec is a part of. They hit it off and become friends.
What ensues is a story of growth, personally, professionally, and familiarly. The story is cute and a good easy, quick read.

Actual Rate: 4.5 Stars. ⭐⭐⭐⭐✨

“Because every once in a while, the most effective way to fix something was by breaking it. Only then could you put the pieces back together in a way that made sense.”

It has been a while since I stayed until 2:00 AM to finish a book.
It has been a while since I cried so hard over the emotions a book evoked in me. By chapter sixteen, I was in tears, sobbing and heartbroken for the FMC, but then a few chapters after, I got confused by the dramatic change in the FMC Arc, and I got a little upset. When I finished the book, I wasn’t sure what I was feeling, so it took me a few days to write the review.
And here is the thing, I’m with the idea of being the bigger person, the better person, but also, I believe in fairness, and I wish the storyline would give more credit to the FMC's feelings.
Overall, the story is fantastic, a beautiful narrative, great characters, love the band and the bond between them, an interesting plot line, this time not about the most popular guy but the one in the shadows. And of course, my favorite: a strong main female character.
1000% recommended.

I received an ARC from Sourcebooks Fire through NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review. And I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

✨✨Thank you NetGalley for giving me an ARC copy in exchange for my review ✨✨

If you loved Ali’s “My Life With The Walter Boys”, then you will love this.

This story was such an easy and fulfilling read. Every time I pick up a book by Ali Novak, I always immediately get sucked in to the characters and find myself having trouble putting the book down.

First, you can’t help but love the sly sarcasm Indie gives off through-out the book, like yes girl. If I could have a character mimic my personality, it’s indie and her snide comments she leaves every now and then. Ali breaksway of the story between Indigo and her sister Violet, who is a famous actress. She highlights their family troubles, strained relationship, and animosity between the two and creates an easy story line and favorable read - just watching the two break apart and then rekindle and forgive at the end.

One thing I love is how low the spice level is. It’s a feel good book and great for early teens and adults. Indie rendezvous with a male character who she becomes quite aquanted with, but it’s subtle enough that you don’t have to worry about your cheeks turning red in public. She gives their love story modesty and the perfect amount of hallmark feel-good.

Overall, 4 ⭐️ I enjoyed this book a lot!

This is Book 3 of The Heartbreak Chronicles series!

I was lucky enough to receive as an ARC 🥰

A heartfelt, swoony YA romance that perfectly blends fame, family, and finding your own voice.
Indigo “Indie” has spent her life in the shadow of her famous sister, Violet — the Hollywood star who seems to have it all. But while Violet shines on screen, Indie’s passion lies in special effects makeup and music. When she’s forced to tag along as her sister’s assistant for the weekend, she never expects to meet Xander Jones — the charming, slightly awkward guitarist of the Heartbreakers.

Their connection is instant and genuine — two people quietly living in the background of everyone else’s spotlight. As Indie starts to rediscover who she is (and what she truly wants), Xander becomes both her biggest cheerleader and the person who helps her step into her own light.

Heartstrings is a sweet, emotionally grounded romance filled with self-discovery, family tension, and that perfect “just see me” kind of love.

💞 Tropes:
• Celebrity × normal girl
• Forced proximity
• He falls first
• Finding yourself / coming-of-age
• Hidden world of fame
• Sweet, slow-burn YA romance

Sweetly, this book will pluck at your 'Heartstrings".

Third in a series but also easily read as a standalone, this was no question for this reader, a five star reader. And, here's why...

From the first chapter, the author draws you into Indie's world. Her frustrating relationship with her father, her resentment with her elder, famous sister who seems to prioritize career over family, and her supportive best friend. With that established, her chance encounter with Xander seems to open up whole new possibilities, some she is hesitant to explore while others she wholeheartedly throws herself in.

Indie's emotional journey is one that the reader will invest in. For this reader, it was an immersive experience; that is, until glanced away after the last page, forgot that this book was fictional and not playing out in real time. Even the secondary character of Indie's mother (seen somewhat off page via communication over tech and email is done well).

This ARC was provided by the publisher, SOURCEBOOKS Casablanca | Sourcebooks Casablanca via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This was another cute story. It's probably my favorite of the 3 because the main characters are kind of nerdy and they're relatable. Xander, lead guitarist for The Heartbreakers, is a total sweetheart, always kind and encouraging, also kind of nerdy and allergic to a lot of things. You know the old saying, nice guys finish last. Xander constantly feels overlooked. Indy is the younger sister of actress Violet James. After her parents divorce, her mother moved across the country to join the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, a dream she gave up when she got pregnant. Her father is Violet's manager and a workaholic, so much like Xander, Indy constantly feels overlooked.
These 2 had a history that was enjoyable, I enjoyed how shy theyboth were. Indy's struggling relationship with her sister and father were completely relatable (besides the fame. Indy had body image issues because she's a little chubby, but it wasn't a main focus of the story thankfully. Definitely glad I read this and I'm looking forward to the final book.
