This is an alternate cover edition of ASINB01LXJ3AJ2.

A beauty and her beast...

Gretchen has been falling for the Gryphon of Sanctuary a little more each hour she spends in the Castle library. He reads to her, he tells her stories of the real history he lived, and surely he notices her growing affection. Only he hasn't. Or won't. But every moment she doesn't confess her love brings her closer to the doom she fears: the Sisters of the House of Lamidae need her to have a human's baby. And Alek is anything but human...

Alek looks forward to finding Gretchen in the Castle library. Her smile calms his inner beast. Her happiness reminds him there is beauty in a world out to destroy his kind--Others. Supernaturals waiting for a way to leave Earth and return to their world. But Gretchen makes him want to stay.

But Gretchen is off-limits. The House of Lamidae has a present destiny, and his duty is to protect them. Not fall in love.

My Guardian Gryphon is book five in the Sanctuary, Texas series by Krystal Shannan.

my guardian gryphon:

This is one of those books that creeps up on you and then grabs you when you least expect it and does not let you go until that very last moment. Let this be a warning, do not consume large quantities of caffeine while reading this book. The book itself will be plenty to keep your adrenaline going full force!

Gretchen is one of the Sisters of the House of Lamidae, women who are humans except that they have the gift of visions. Their soul purpose is to continue to bear children to add more strength to the sisters and their visions so that they can locate two additional protectors. These two protectors are needed so that the entire population of supernaturals can eventually go home to the Veil.

personal library:

Gretchen has known Alek Melos since she was twelve years old. He began coming to the castle where she and all the sisters lived and reading to her in the castle library every day. Every day for fifteen years. Gretchen has loved Alek every single one of those days. Now she is twenty seven and she wants Alek in every way. But it is forbidden for a sister to be with a supernatural. Early on Gretchen had a vision of herself with Alek. A vision that has given her hope that there could be a future for them. Now all she has to do is get Alek to notice that she’s not a child anymore.

“He had me. My whole heart. My mind. My everything would be his if only he asked.”
“He was my beast - my Gryphon warrior. He had always been mine. And I would be his.”

gryphon:

Alek is a Gryphon shifter. He has lived in Sanctuary, Texas supporting Rose’s plan to find the protectors and going home to the Veil for centuries. He has always been drawn to Gretchen but all of a sudden, he blinked, and gone was that little sweet girl he reads to and has long historical discussions with. All of a sudden, she was a woman. And she was the woman his beast wanted. It was something so strong he could barely hold himself back. But Gretchen was a sister. It was forbidden. He could not allow it.

Conwy Castle:

Rose is who runs Sanctuary. It is her vision, her plan, that everyone sacrifices everything to support. The sisters seem to accept their purpose in everything. It’s only Gretchen that fights it. She wants Alek and only Alek.

“Everything here was pretense and charade. We had no life. No choices. No free will. We were no better than slaves to Rose’s whim, and no one even seemed to care. They all just helped her, saying it was for the greater good. Their lives were the sacrifice that had to be made.”

Xerxes is always in the background, his evil growing. His quest to rule the world and then the Veil seems to be within his grasp. He must defeat Sanctuary and get rid of Rose. If he could get the Sisters, then he would be unstoppable.

This book! I’m not sure how to describe it. There is a love story, yes. But of the whole series, this one was the most disturbing. Xerxes evil has grown and the things he does are so over the top awful. Rose is supposed to be good but she and her single minded quest regarding the purpose of the Sisters made me so angry. Maybe she wasn’t as evil as Xerxes but the way she went about getting what she wanted was so wrong. She was doing it for the greater good but it was still wrong.

Did Gretchen make some very bad decisions? Yes she did. But Gretchen also suffered the most unthinkable horror of all. This book will keep you on edge until the very end. I believe there is only one more book which will be the grand finale. The final showdown between good and evil, between Xerxes and the residents of Sanctuary. While each book focuses on a different couple, the main story theme runs throughout the series so it is best to read the books in order. So what better time than to start at the beginning and meet all the residents of Sanctuary, Texas.

“I’m only yours. I’ll only ever be yours.”

Warning: This book does contain the emotional trauma from sexual assault. It is done in a dignified, sensitive way and highlights the strength of the survivor.

I really enjoyed the development of this story/this series. It was exciting, more involved. The romance and the plot not disappointment or weakness. But it was cut too short or just the next book is not available because still too many mystery to come.
HEA yes but it wasn't. And in a way it was since everything would be okay with time. Loss and sadness deem to happen but soon freedom would be there. It was just a message of hope. So for me not a real HEA and with so many more to come.

I loved this story until the end

Damn it. I'm writing this review as a bit if a warning to the people who have read this whole series so far. TWO of the most Major characters die in this book and there is a pretty gnarly rape scene/memory. This book was so fricken heart breaking, just one horrible thing after another. Usually there is a *happy ending* at least but this ended was so cold and so sudden. I'm sorta heart broken.

Another great add to the series. Alek and Gretchen are star-crossed lovers in a way. Their story isn't flowers and smiles. It's tragic and heartbreaking at times. This is a epic love story on all levels and if you loved the others this one will soon become your favorite. Great mix of supernatural and epic love that fight to be together. Can't wait for the next. I voluntarily reviewed an 'Advance Author’s Copy' of this book.

Title: My Guardian Gryphon
Author: Krystal Shannan

4 unexpected stars

I've been following Krystal Shannan for quite some time now and absolutely love how she takes paranormal romance and gives it her own brand and twists that continuously keep you captivated until you just want more. My Guardian Gryphon is the fifth novel in the Sanctuary, Texas series and has a Beauty and the Beast flair that made me fall in love with the story like there's no tomorrow. Alek is in charge of protecting the House of Lamidae, but as he reads to Gretchen everything, the girl enchants him in so many ways that he's wondering if he'll be able to keep his priorities straight. Only, Gretchen has her own destiny to fulfill - one that she's unsure she wants to follow as her feelings for Alek become stronger.

4.5 sexy dreams

It's a new rendition of one of my favorite fairy tales and Krystal Shannan gave it a paranormal aspect that I absolutely loved. I fell in love with Gretchen and Alek and how it (their feelings) came naturally to them. It was a beautiful and breath taking story that had my blood singing and at times, my heart racing. I love what Krystal Shannan has to write because it always takes me on an unexpected journey.

I will not attempt to summarize all the background story, as it is rather complex, but Krystal Shannan does a terrific job at recapping everything that has happened so far, so that a newcomer to the series will be able to enjoy it as much as a long-time fan.

Gretchen is a Sister of the House of Lamidae, led by Rose. Gretchen is a Seer, and she has never left the castle where the Sisters reside. They are human but their collective powers as seers will allow them to strengthen their visions, thus making it possible to find the two remaining Protectors of the supernaturals on Earth, so they can eventually go home to Veil. All this is neither farfetched nor convoluted, as Krystal Shannan makes it all crystal clear – no pun intended. The Sisters must have children with human males, and Gretchen has resisted that requirement from the beginning, but time is running out for her. She is secretly in love with Alek Melos, a Gryphon, Alek is also enamoured of Gretchen, but anything more than friendship between them is forbidden, as Alek is a shifter. What are they to do? And dear readers, don’t presume for one second that you have guessed what will happen!

MY GUARDIAN GRYPHON is a fabulously exciting book with breathtaking action sequences, and startling plot twists. Our favourite villain, the revoltingly mesmerising Xerxes, has definitely not mellowed, and he has even more secrets than I ever thought. Sanctuary is not safe anymore, and not everyone gets out alive! Amidst all the chaos and the violence, it turns out that Xerxes is not the only one keeping secrets. The worldbuilding of Sanctuary is already astounding, and Ms. Shannan adds to the mythology of this amazing series. The more you read MY GUARDIAN GRYPHON, the more you learn, the more you want to know!

Krystal Shannan is an extremely talented writer, and it is always fascinating how well she conveys the characters’ various voices. MY GUARDIAN GRYPHON is told from 3 points of views: that of Gretchen’s, Alek’s, and Xerxes’, and all three are as different as the characters themselves. Even more surprising is that the sex scenes are totally Gretchen’s and Alek’s; even the sex scenes differ from book to book, and are entirely adapted to the specific characters, and this something that few authors seem to care about; here the sex scenes are of such tenderness, your heart will melt. Gretchen’s ordeal is absolutely heartbreaking, and Alek rises to the occasion.

MY GUARDIAN GRYPHON is fast-paced, thrilling from the beginning, of boundless originality, and the imagery throughout is stunning. I didn’t know much about Gryphons, and Ms. Shannan painted an amazing visual of Alek as a Gryphon. This book is bursting with colours and emotions; a fabulous, fabulous read! I cannot wait for the next instalment of this fantastic series; it will be explosive! By the gods, don’t miss MY GUARDIAN GRYPHON!

If you're reading this review then you're being warned, good characters die in this book. What I liked most about this book was that I didn't expect anyone to die and it caught me off guard for them to die, it was unexpected, and unpredicted which is what was so good.
I also really liked how we got to see a hint of the Phoenix's struggle with being in love with Manda. When he did not kill her previously I was sure they'd be coupled later although when the Blackmoor son arrived I expected him and the Djinn Princess to end up together too since I figured Xerses would torture him for a while, both had lost their spouse and would be spending a long time together if Xerses had kept ahold of him. Jared and Manda seem like they'll be a good couple too though.
Rose has got to be my least favorite character, even over Xerses. There's just always been a part of her that is too controlling and manipulative which I just couldn't grow to like and after this book I like her even less. I do however look forward to a possible book on her and Naram.
The next book looks like it'll be on Calliope, but like this one, I'm uncertain who the other half is going to be. Looking forward to it!

This was the first book in the series that I have read and although it took a little while, I soon got the gist of it and was hooked. What a remarkable storyline and set of characters?! I found myself completely engaged and unable to put the book down and rooting for both Gretchen and Alek to find the path to happiness, even though you know in the back of your mind that you know eventually that it's bound to happen, you're still on the edge of your seat with your heart pounding on several pages. I will now have to get the other books in the series so that I can not only continue with the series, but also read the back story. I would definitely recommend this book, another amazing read from Krystal.

This book was bittersweet and took me a bit of time to get into but once I did, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Gretchen and Alek are fantastic together -- sometimes those who should not be together are better once they finally get there. The action is consistently paced and the characters are well developed. There is a sad moment that shocked me but I kept on going and pushed through. If you enjoy Krystal's books or just love paranormal romance, this book should be on your TBR. I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book and am glad that I did.

My Guardian Gryphon (Sanctuary, Texas Book 5)
by Krystal Shannan

To say that this was an emotional read for me...... well.......

Anyway, I am only going to say that this was a fantastic story.

I won't say anything more because I know I would give something away and I don't want to do that.

I do recommend reading this series in order. These books are so tightly woven together that you would miss something if you don't.

I loved the main couple in this book. However, Not a happy reader right now. My husband laughed at me, “it’s just a book hun”. But when you’ve invested so much time, money and energy in following and caring about these characters...I’m mad. It was so sudden at the end of the book. I don’t feel she’ll be able to pull off an ending to this saga in one book that will satisfy me as a reader/purchaser of her books. I will give her that chance though....

That fucking asshole in a very hard beat down and die 4 everything he's pulled and caused from other's sufferings!! I wish there was a way 2 bring certain people back from the dead asap!! It will take a very long x 2 heal from everything that happened 2 her but he will help heal everything. Even though he doesn't understand his life he finally figured out how to love and loved back like his parents did.

Wow.. So many unanswered questions. Can't wait to get into the next story. I hope to read more about Gretchen and Alek. Theirs has been my favorite so far. All the stories have been exciting, sad and hopeful so far but now with Rose's life hanging by a thread and the future of all those in sanctuary at risk the stories become more real and threatening for all.

My Guardian Gryphon by Krystal Shannon is book 5 of the Sanctuary, Texas series.

I'm so glad to see Sanctuary's resident Gryphon Alek get his own story and Gretchen is a perfect, strong, but isolated Sister of Lamidae that is more then his match. But their relationship is not easy and fraught with troubles and virtually forbidden. We also get a good look into the life of a Sister and what their obligation actually entails.

Not to mention, the whole town is on high alert as Xerxes forces are getting closer and closer to weakening the towns defences and preparing for the horrific consequences of when he gets through.

This book had me at an emotional wreck more then once so please be prepared.
Krystal manages to write so much into her characters that it's almost an art and reading her books is a privilege. I can't wait for more of Sanctuary.

I voluntarily reviewed this advanced reader copy and I have not been compensated in any way.

My Guardian Gryphon (Sanctuary, Texas, #6) by Krystal Shannan - Whatever you do, don’t get attached to any of these characters at all. Even if they find love, there is no guarantee for any kind of happy. Man is this series depressing me! Happy Reading!

Did not finish this. The plot is too obvious, but that's romance for you. What killed it was the writing plods, it's clunky and lacks pace or liveliness. Need I say more?

I so love this series always look forward to the next and never want to see the end. (cough cough).
The town of Sanctuary is so not like any town we’ve known. Its like its own little world, where good and evil is fought, protected and nurtured.

When one has a life that is destined to be a certain way, rules must be followed correct? A life mapped out for a single minded reason and not a lot you can do about it. Gretchen is all about the changing.

Alex strong and knowledgeable, sexy and is to die for, and has been in Gretchens dream many a year now. I think Alex taught her just as much as Rose as, Alex though as lived a long life and knows without rules things can and usually fall to Chaos.

Rose has a fight that she’s been fighting years on years. She’s a bit tunneled vision when it comes to the sisters. I was a bit miffed with Rose, even knowing the evil that is Xerxes I still felt that Rose was using the sisters. To the good yes but at what cost?

Krystal brings us back to the quaint town we grew to adore, with characters we grew to love. Introducing new family that will be as important to us as the others in Sanctuary. The magic, the good and bad, the hot and sensual. Hold your heart, dry a tear and scoot back from the edge of your set. Enjoy.
