Who said anything was ever fair?
Billionaires don’t easily fall––unless they are up against another oligarch.
With the Games at their ten year celebration, the rules are reset for one massive Hunt. For all involved, there are no guarantees on anything––claiming multi-millions a hope, death in the process an equal possibility.
With the Russian Presidential election drawing ever closer, the main challengers need to make their move. Ousting Putin is not going to be easy––and there are men to be removed before anything becomes possible.
From the Best Selling author of The Tablet, comes the second instalment in The Hunt––his most explosive series yet!
Tim has been married to his wife Rachel since 2001, and they have two daughters. He lives in Tallinn, Estonia, having moved there with his family in 2012 from St Petersburg, Russia, which they moved to in 2008. He is originally from Kent in England and lived for eight years in Cheshire, before moving abroad. As well as writing the novels that are already published (plus the one or two that are always in the process of being finished) Tim enjoys being outdoors, exploring Estonia, cooking and spending time with his family.
I received this book through the Beta-Reading-group.
I enjoyed this thriller, it was great to get to know the oligarchs better. When books get into economics I don't really understand how everything works but it is interesting nevertheless. I also like Alex and Anissa and how they work together. Russia is a great scenario! I especially enjoyed it as I have a bit of knowledge of the Russian language and also have visited Russia when it was still the Soviet Union and St. Petersburg was Leningrad. Much has changed since but all the great sights featuring in this book are still the same! I'm very much looking forward to part 3, to have all the threads go together.
If you like thrillers with great and well thought-through backstories, this is the book for you!
Looking for a light, easy read? Don't choose this book! This will keep your brain ticking as you try and keep up with the complex web of dirty deeds played out by the wealthy. There is a lot to keep up with as 20 rich super powers battle to be top dog, dragging ordinary people into their path of destruction. A very clever story line with lots of twists. It is hard to see where the plot is heading so it kept me hooked right through to the end. Now I am left hanging as I wait for book 3! Well done Tim, a very imaginative, original and gripping novel. I can't wait for the next one!
This was a well written thriller that moved at a good pace. The author did a good job of introducing all of the characters, of which there were many - 20 oligarchs and 10 contestants in the current hunt. Although I haven't read the first book, I did feel enough background information was given that I didn't I was left hanging wondering what had happened in the first book when some of the characters from the first book were reintroduced. I especially liked Alex, Anissa and Sasha. I would recommend reading the book, although the book does end with the start of the storyline for the next book in the series.
This is the first Tim Heath book I am reading and it definitely won't be the last! Such precision, such attention to detail and one hell of a story line! A story that includes money, lots and lots of money and you know what people will do for it, well they do it! Murder, spies, foreign countries, power - what more could a person ask for in a book! You need your wits about you when reading this book so you don't forget who the main players are as it is easy to stray if you don't keep your eye on the ball! A hell of a good story Tim Heath and I shall certainly be reading more of your books, thank you!
What do you do for fun when you have huge wealth? Tim explores the games that the ultra-rich members of the Russian oligarchy play to amuse themselves. The challenge for our protagonists, Anissa, Alex, and Sasha, is to uncover and stop the clandestine working of this group of 20 oligarchs while they continue their hunt and avoid becoming the hunted.
Tim paints a vivid picture of each of the characters including the locale of much of the adventure - St. Petersburg.
Take 1 host, add 20 billionaires all jockeying for the top 10 spots in their group. Add 10 contestants who were given money and other incentives to compete in a dangerous game. The winners of the game will go on to complete for only 5 lottery tickets. What would they do to each other to compete for the life-changing millions these lottery tickets are worth? MI6 and FSB agents team up to track down the people responsible for the game. This was a very exciting book that I read in one day. I couldn’t put it down.
Tim has surpassed himself with this superb book. Full of characters that you want to keep the pages turning to find out what they are up to next. So many reasons why you should give this book your time...it is full of Russian names which at first you have to work on but you soon get the way of reading it without any problems. Well worth buying. I can totally recommend this book without a shadow of doubt that you will enjoy it from beginning to end.
Such an intriguing middle entry in a trilogy that allows more revelations, but still without giving too much away! Clever. Fun and enlightening, this tale continues deeper into the machinations of Russian political players (even Putin makes an appearance!), but also returns to one of the previous entry's characters as he continues to survive on the run. A great mix of high-echelon power plays with grassroots survival.
Given a free advance copy, I have decided to review this book because I loved it. This is the first time I have read any of Tim Heath's work--but I am a fan! Mr. Heath writes well. and the fact that he has lived in Russia and Estonia shows in the book. He may be English but he has a great understanding of how things work in certain countries. Thought provoking and suspenceful, this book should not be read when you are tired--you will miss important clues. Put your thinking cap on!!
This is the first book I've read in a while that I actually had to concentrate on - lot's of characters, so I didn't want to mix them up, lot's of them had Russian names too which made it slightly harder to retain them for me. But so worth it! It's a fantastic book - the construction of both plot and characters is fabulous. It's one that I didn't want to put down - a fantastic thriller!
Another well written, fast paced booked from Tim Heath. Nice to know more about the oligarchs and what makes them tick.
I look forward to see what is going to happen in the next book in the series. I found it intriguing and would recommend all to get a copy of the series
An excellent second book in The Hunt series, loved it. A chance to get to know the characters in more depth and enter the world and heads of the oligarchs and the contestants involved. Really, really looking forward to the next book!
A great page turner from Tim. Set mainly in St Petersburg and featuring the top billionaires and the games. It follows on from book one and I can't wait for book three.would definitely recommend this book.
Continuing on from book one , the pace has increased as the game gets more intense, makes you feel as though you are involved in the hunt. Can not wait for book 3 in the series.
Last night I finished The Pride by Tim Heath. This is the second book in his series called The Hunt and is based on a series of gaming events run by Russian oligarchs, using unsuspecting members of the public to their own gain (power, money and most importantly, influence)
I spoke to the Author last night about this book - I often find that when reading a series, the phrase ‘I enjoyed it but the first book was better’ creeps into play. I can actually say this isn’t the case here.
I’ve finished this book and I now regret that I didn’t buy the 3rd book in readiness.
Tim leaves lots of little bread crumbs throughout his story, that I didn’t pick up on at the time of reading but it all came together at the end. He’s a professional at keeping his readers wondering and never really knowing the outcome until the very end. A master at his game.
I also continually become emotionally invested in the characters (Phelan!!) and love how we can get to know them just enough to satisfy but still have plenty to learn.
The way he portrays his characters, his settings and organisations is brilliant and ‘feels’ so real. I wholeheartedly recommend the crime fans amongst us here to pick up the first book (The Prey) and make a start on this series. Or even reach out to Tim Heath himself - I’m sure he will be more than happy to chat!
If you decide to give these books a go, I’d love to hear from you 🙂🥰
The Sequel to The Prey did not disappoint. Author did a great job of keeping the plot lines fresh. Didn’t know what to expect, as I got deeper into the story. Unexpected, edge of the seat thrills throughout the story made it hard to put down. Bigger and bigger ambition from the characters along with the seamless way in which they were all connected ensured I stayed invested in the story. Looking forward to the inevitable next installment. I received an advance reader copy of this book, and I am happy to leave a review.
An interesting fresh perspective plot for the Thriller genre of books. The author has taken the rarified atmosphere of fantastically rich Russian oligarchs and turned it into a game among them for exceedingly high risks.
By following not only the two MI6 agents trying to investigate the games, but also the individual ‘contestants’ and their assigned oligarchs, a complicated but thrilling tale takes place.
In the end, the scene is set for a follow up book and the next set of games.
[This is the rereleased version by Conundrum 2022.]
Loved the concept of the games but would have loved a bit more on this part hence only the 4 stars.
Enjoyed the overall story…. Ruthless, power plays, back stabbing etc etc. I read without having read the first book, I will be reading this one now (and then the next book in the series).
The second instalment packs quite a punch from the very first pages. Whilst book 1 looked a little more closely at the Contestants in the Games of these wealthy Russians, book 2 (The Pride) looks more closely at the oligarchs themselves.
All along, building towards a political challenge for the March 2018 Russian Presidential elections.
