People-pleaser Marie has a lot to contend with:
• Her fiancé Brian is a workaholic who mysteriously snubs his family • Her best friend Grace is being demanding and unreasonable • Her wedding plans are non-existent • She’s accidentally acquired a personal trainer
Despite all this, Marie manages to stay upbeat. Thankfully she has her Fat Club friends to keep her entertained with things like wedding crashing and piggyback races.
Can Marie fix her friendship with Grace, solve everyone’s problems and have a perfect wedding? What is the perfect wedding anyway?
Although My Kind of Perfect is the third book in the Friends Like These series, it can also be read as a standalone novel.
Hannah Ellis spent many years working in childcare before deciding she'd like to write books. When she's not busy writing she likes to read, drink tea and eat chocolate. She also enjoys yoga and jogging.
This was my favorite of the 3 books so far. It had me laughing, had me crying, even had me angry. It was the perfect ending. Look forward to more tales of Marie and the Fat Club! Would also like to see more Harry from the first book!
what an awesome book. I read it in one day. makes you smile, irritates you, and then you love it. hard not to fall in love with the characters in this book. Definitely will be reading more from this author!!!
Nice wrap up to the series (with the potential to build on the story). I found the drop-in of Brian's family rather abrupt but I really like the crazy cast of characters.
Charming book about a fun-loving couple! Well developed characters live out real-life events. Fun story line. Good use of British setting. Nice to read a story set in England.
So far, this was my favorite book in the "Friends Like These" series. The characters were more established from the previous books, so it was easy as a reader to jump right into the plot. I also felt I understood Marie much more. My main criticism is that the resolution of a conflict between Marie and Grace seemed to instantaneously happen at the end...which was still believable, but I think there could have been more time spent on this. I say that simply because this is a book about friendship! Overall though, much of what happens in the book makes a lot of sense given Marie's character, and Ellis does a wonderful job of establishing who Marie is.
I really enjoyed that Marie seemed much more comfortable with herself and who she was in this book - and I appreciate that because I have seen her journey from book 1! Ellis does a great job of writing quirky, likeable, relatable characters. This series is a joy to read, and I would love to keep on reading!
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I absolutely loved this book. It had a little bit of everything, I laughed, I cried... it made for a wonderful afternoon.
This is the third book in the series and I really hope there are more to come. I've fallen in love with this mis-fit group of friends and I'm dying to see where their stories lead.
You won't be disappointed with this story, just make sure you read the other books in order.
I love this series of books and recommend them to anyone who enjoys chick lit, perfect holiday reading/escapism. This book is a fantastic follow up, I enjoyed reading it so much, I had finished it in two days! I'm looking forward to book #4!
With how the previous book in this series finished, it seemed that things were on the up for Marie but when we catch back up with her in the third novel, sadly her life seems to still be stuck in a rut. Brian is working harder than ever and the wedding plans are non existent. On the up side, Grace comes back for a visit but it leaves Marie feeling she no longer knows her best friend that well and wonders if the friendship has finally run it’s course.
It’s the members of the fat club that make these books so special. I mean I love Marie and Brian but it wouldn’t be nearly as enjoyable if it weren’t for the other characters of the club, even Marie’s mum and personal trainer! Sophie steals the limelight so many times but you can’t begrudge her as deep down she really does care about her group of her friends even though she has a funny way of showing it at times.
It was great to get to know more about Brian and meet his family in this book. They are mentioned briefly in the other novels but we know very little about them and I had begun to wonder if there was a reason for this and how bad they could possibly be. When Marie gets to meet them though, it sets off a flurry of wedding activity with lots of chaos, mayhem, fun, laughter as well as all the feels.
My Kind of Perfect is another great addition to this gorgeous, feel-good series. It will be interesting to see what is in store for the characters in the fourth and final book. I have come to love spending time with the characters and they feel like life long friends. It was interesting to see how high peoples expectations can be when it comes to certain important events in your life. I feel like things can get lost in what the moment is supposed to be about and Marie’s take on life is something we can all learn from. Guaranteed to make you laugh, it’s the perfect pick me up!
The third of fourth in the series of Friends Like These. This finds Marie being pressured into organising her wedding to Brian. Her best friend, Grace has come back to the U.K. to arrange her own wedding and is annoyed that Marie is not taking her own wedding plans as seriously. Marie doesn’t understand what the need to be so organised is all about and they have a bit of a falling out. Grace returned to the USA having been disappointed at not being able to organise everything for her own wedding.
The novel continues with weekly “fat club” meetings of all the friends Marie met in the first instalment (you’ll need to read the first one to understand) together with meeting Brian’s estranged family who live in Scotland.
No spoilers but a wedding is planned in the usual erratic Marie way. Grace is invited but categorically refuses to come. Why? You’ll have to read to find out!
An enjoyable lightweight read to cosy up to in the cold evenings. Plus although a sequel, we are not repeatedly told about what happened in previous novels, as can be the situation with other authors.
After reading the first three books in the series of Friends Like These, or as I call them Marie's Misfits, I can't stop thinking how much Marie and her awesome friends seem to echo some of the craziness and feelings in my own life. How great is it that the author's main character isn't the perfect person, but an ordinary person like so many of us with friends that night not be considered normal but on the crazy side. My Dad would call Marie's friend her strays she picked up. But just like stray animals that are rescued, they are loyal to the end and love you no matter what. I can't wait to start reading the next book in the series.
Can planning a wedding be thAt hard or can you leave certain aspects to chance? Marie and Brian are getting married as well as Grace and James, unfortunately Grace turns into bridezilla and puts her friendships at risk throw in a Mic up about her wedding venue makes it even worse. Meanwhile Marie and Brian keep putting the planning off. Find out who gets married and where along with the fat club. Gang having their own lives running smoothly or not.
This story had the sort of ending that I came to expect from this wacky lot of characters. Now that I've finished I miss laughing at their antics. I might have start at the beginning again lol. I've now read all the stories that Hannah Ellis has written, I really enjoy her writing style. I think my favourite is With You Always.
I am so glad I found this series of books! The characters are so unabashedly themselves which is both heart warming and funny!! This is the third book in the Friends series by Hannah Ellis and I would highly recommend all three books! They are quick, light reads, with a great message about being comfortable in your own skin.
ugh Only one book left?!?! I adore Marie and Fat Club and am going to miss a friend when i finish book 4. Seriously buy all 4 at once youll read them and love every second. Thank you to the author and to Kindle for recommending this delightful series. Now i just hope we can get another book on Marie in the future to see how everyone is doing. ❤
Read one, read them all but this Brit chic lit series holds its own. I haven’t read a book in this genre for years so I can’t compare it to any other series. The only nasty character was the rain. If only real life could be like this.
I really enjoyed this book, along with the others in the short series. My only complaint is that there is r a fourth for me to dive into! These are my kind of reads, lighthearted, funny, and sweet.
I read all 3 in order and I think this was the best. I laughed out loud and even cried. What a great book... can’t wait to read more from Hannah Ellis.
Each book leads seamlessly into the next. Each character is perfectly crafted and has a purpose. Can't wait until the next book in the series come out. Each book leaves you smiling and full of joy and possibilities.
Another great read. From book 1 thru book 3 the characters kept developing without leaving anyone behind. Here’s a note to the Author and I hope she reads it: HURRY UP AND FINISH #4!!
After reading the first two books it’s nice to continue the story. Book often end with you wondering what happened to the characters and this continues the story. Great light reading and a book that leaves you smiling.
I am enjoying the lightheartedness of this series. The characters are fun and relatable. But this book in particular has a few more twists and turns. I may have even cried once or twice. Excited to start the last book!
A must read , even if you haven’t read the 1st 2 books.
I just loved it we are learning so much about each character now the wedding was a wonderful thing as well as a near disaster but all is well in the end . Off to read book 4 now.
I loved this next instalment of Marie and her eclectic group of friends. As expected, their chaotic scenes and crazy behaviour had me laughing along with the gang. Can't wait to start the next book
Don’t you just love stories that just fall into place in a messy and strange kind of way. Making the right things be important in the end. Great storylines.
Great read. Constantly kept me interested with it's twists and turns. And who doesn't love a happy ending? Book 3? -whoops, read it first, and followed along just fine.
