Lucas has been tracking a killer, known as Mechanic when his world is shattered. Unable to continue his hunt for the murderer he is forced to rely on his friend and colleague Dick Harper. But Harper has a knack for not playing by the rules. And he doesn't disappoint.
Meanwhile, Detective Moran is trying to piece her life back together. The police stumble upon new evidence without grasping its significance and she must divert the investigation if she is to survive.
The police are closer to Mechanic than they realise which puts Moran right in the firing line.
Mechanic, as usual, has other plans and the consequences for Lucas and Harper are terrifying...
This is book 3 of the Mechanic Trilogy and I would strongly recommend reading them in sequence although it could possibly work well as stand alone.
The book is fast paced and totally gripping so I would suggest you don’t start reading until you have a fair bit of time as you won't be able to put it down. Murder, corruption, blackmail, drugs and a little humour make this one of the most gripping books/series I have read in a while.
After the death of a friend and spouse Lucas is out for revenge and Harper is happy to tag along. However, Mechanic is also out for revenge and wants Lucas and Harper to 'pay the penance' for their actions in previous books.
Mechanic is a sadistic murderer and we get to know the character even more deeply in this book and we also learn more about the history and background that created the monster that Mechanic has become.
Lucas and Harper are both on a mission to put an end to Mechanic whatever the cost and they both know the cost will be high. Moran has also been dragged into the web of violence and corruption that surrounds the case and she finds herself caught up in the middle of a war that will probably cost her her career at the very least. But like her 2 partners in crime she is unable to walk away so joins the 2 men in the hunt.
Despite the violence there is a hint of humour in the background that I absolutely love and it makes this book unique. It is, without doubt, a jaw droppingly brilliant series and I am looking forward to more from Rob Ashman.
Thank you to Bloodhound books for the advance copy.
Pay The Penance is the third and final book in the Mechanic trilogy. Please do read these in order as it will spoil your enjoyment somewhat if read out of sequence.
Having read and enjoyed the previous two novels in the trilogy, I literally could not wait to see how it would all end and boy I was not disappointed!
There are so many great characters in these books. Moran I probably loved that little bit more than the others. I love a strong female character and Moran ticked all the boxes for me. In a way it felt like she was the one in charge and looking out for Lucas and Harper.
I love the relationship especially between Lucas and Harper. It’s been a rocky one at times but it is a strong and solid one that you know will last a life time. They make a great duo and the fact that Moran made it more of a trio actually worked really well.
Mechanic, what to say about them. I really got to like them in the second novel and I had so much empathy in this one for them but there is no getting away that they are extremely damaged and have gone past the point of no return. In a way the reader knows how the outcome of the story is going to go. I mean there can only ever really be one way. The author still managed to shock and surprise me though with the way that they have ended it and I absolutely loved it.
Pay The Penance is an extremely satisfying finale of what has been a highly thrilling and entertaining series. I have to admit that I am going to miss the characters as they have been a big part of my life over the last few months. If you haven’t yet had the opportunity to read these books yet then I highly recommend doing so. The perfect read for fans of a seriously twisted serial killer.
My thanks to Bloodhound Books for an advanced readers copy of this book. All opinions are my own and not biased in anyway.
Lucas and Harper are again on the trail of the Mechanic. When they need access to restricted information they rope in Rebecca Moran again, initially against her will but she soon gets into the swing of it.
With great detective work they make great progress and develop a cunning plan to 'trap' mechanic. Unfortunately its not so easy. Mechanic is working with Jamieson and they are onto Lucas and Harper, they still don't seem to be aware of Moran though.
Things go horribly wrong with their plan and mechanic now intends for them to 'pay the penance' (for killing her sister) alluded to in the previous book. It gets a bit hairy at this stage as Lucas and Harper are in extreme and painful danger, and I had to have a break before continuing. Is mechanic simply to good for them or can they finally nail the bitch?
Ohhh what an amazing ending to this just wonderful trilogy and all credit to Rob Ashman for writing such fantastic characters. I can’t praise enough so can only say read it you won’t be disappointed..5 stars and now have withdrawals as no more Rob Ashman books left to read 😟
This is one of those rare books that I couldn’t wait to get my hands on and yet I was dreading the day in equal measures because this is the end, the final book in a series that I loved. Now I have to say next that this book, this final one to end it all, is just bloody awesome from the first page to the last. This is one action packed, adrenaline fuelled beauty that I just didn’t know who I wanted to come out on top. Ok that may seem twisted but I really took to the Mechanic, don’t ask why because I am talking total psycho here, but I really sort of got behind this super cool killer that got job satisfaction in killing be it for money, pleasure or for someone to pay a penance for a past deed. Lucas and Harper have a vested interest in hunting down and killing the Mechanic for more than a couple of reasons but primarily if they don’t then the Mechanic will hunt them down and take them out. Where the Mechanic has precision and skill these two have plod and the cheek to blackmail Detective Moran to try give them the edge by hindering the police investigation. Not really a fair match but most entertaining. Definitely a 9 out of 10 for effort for them where it was no effort at all for the Mechanic! The Mechanic has a demon to face from the past in this book, a vulnerability that has been skimmed before that now has to be dealt with and even more shockingly a relationship, one that would be all lovey dovey if they were ‘normal’ (I know politically incorrect but really read the series and you will understand) instead they are two very twisted and messed up people in the head. Well what ever turns you on as the saying goes. Rob Ashman must have poured every ounce of energy and emotion into these three books because it has taken all of mine just reading them and although I know all the ins and outs, who is who and the super hair raising ending, I will read this series again because it really is top notch. I wish to thank Bloodhound books for providing an e-book to me which I have reviewed honestly.
Third book in the series...Lucas attends the funeral of Brassano and makes a promise mostly to himself to get the mechanic...Harper wants in on this..and Harper being Harper resorts to going to the source Moran..She's divided in her loyalty to the job that she loves..and helping them in their quest to find the Mechanic..But just ahead there is a problem. The Mechanic is always one step ahead..The Mechanic is so unhinged now...The Penance must be paid by any means...And Just when everything is about to come together..One or more of the trio could be in the gravest of danger...Who is going to be next to die..? Omg this is an absolute jaw dropping ending ...Rob Ashman's final book in the trilogy stepped up to and surpassed my expectations... This is storytelling that will stay with you...Chilled me to the core..Moran is one of the best characters ever...Love love loved this series..Brilliant..
Wow! What a grand finale to the Mechanic Trilogy! I loved Pay the Penance, once again was deeply fascinated by Mechanic, such a complex character created by Rob Ashman, and I am going to miss them all, Lucas, Mechanic, Harper and Moran!
Introduction
Mechanic #3
The final Mechanic book opens with what seems an innocent scene: a grandfather and his grandchildren, enjoying time together… The next scene brings us Mechanic, the serial killer, en route in Italy to .. murder, this time a professional hit. For Mechanic, it is business as usual but for Police Lieutenant Lucas it is quite different. After the devastating blow Mechanic dealt him, he was “fast joining him (Harper – Lucas’ predecessor) in the gutter.” And they have not even heard the latest horrific news that again will inflame their hatred and lust for revenge ….
Storyline
Could Lucas and Harper ever live a ‘normal’ life with Mechanic existing in the same world as theirs? Both men somehow find the strength to go after Mechanic and they are certain, whether they will survive or not, it will be the last time. To execute their plan, they have to know where Mechanic is. Follow the money – a task for which they need Las Vegas Detective Moran. The ambitious young woman has difficulty with the aftermath of what happened. Before she was involved with Lucas and Harper she saw her future quite clearly and now Moran has no idea who she is. Furthermore, if anyone in the force ever found out what she had done, it would bring about the end of her career. When Harper talks Moran into helping them to locate Mechanic, she is not happy but has no other choice but to cooperate. However, her chef wants an unsolved murder case to be investigated and Moran is desperate to divert her chief’s attention because it will show Mechanic’s connection…
With Moran feeling the pressure from her Chief and Harper and Lucas on the other side, she comes near to losing it. Her participation is the final draw for her career but, then again, she understands the need to stop Mechanic once and for all. In their search for Mechanic, the three of them go far and move in dangerous circles. Meanwhile, Mechanic is experiencing problems that should have been dealt with but have come back with a vengeance. Between the professional hits and the personal problems, we are witness to Mechanic’s tormenting thoughts and cruel actions and fear this will end explosively… Will Harper and Lucas track down Mechanic and finally get their revenge? To create the perfect opportunity, Lucas and Harper have a crazy and dangerous scheme that involves them walking into the lion’s den. Everyone involved has ulterior motives and nothing is what it seems but someone will have to Pay the Penance…
My Thoughts
I cannot believe I will never read about Mechanic again! I totally loved this series and was hooked from the start. It is gripping, at times extremely chilling and I felt for most of the characters in the book! Apart from being a hell of a read, the series opens up discussions into the fascinating topics of fate and nature versus nurture. What is it about fate that some people go through life without experiencing any setbacks, whereas others are a target for bad omens? Watching Mechanic develop from childhood, it seems obvious nurture is the cause of the serial killer’s behaviour. But then again, the relentlessness of this sadistic murderer.. the tenancy with which the shield towards the outer world was kept in place and the force with which the serial killer focuses on taking lives, that indicates nature’s influence as well.
These questions kept hurtling through my mind as I witnessed the story evolve and how all the characters were scarred by fate and, up to a certain point, beyond repair. It is fascinating to see and boy, what a tale Rob Ashman has woven in his three books! I love his writing style with the dark humour shimmering through, not afraid to shock readers with gruesome details. Then again, the violence is fitting to the story. I loved the author showing us Mechanic’s inner turmoil – it could have been easy to create a one-dimensional cold-hearted killer, but it is impressive that Rob Ashman chose to give ‘body’ to Mechanic by showing us the character’s inner demons and convoluted background. This last book of the Trilogy is complex and dark and takes you on a horrifying and spine-chilling journey aboard an out-of-control roller coaster speeding forward towards the inevitable but shocking climax. The Mechanic Trilogy. A must read.
Hallelujah The Mechanic is back! this is one serial killer I can’t get enough of, and once again author Rob Ashman’s imagination runs riot, making the third book in the Mechanic series a heart thumping read. I’ve been eagerly waiting for Pay The Penance the last book in the Mechanic series to be published, I was so desperate to read this book I got up extra early to download it, and then made the fatal mistake of reading the opening chapter, and I was well and truly hooked, if work hadn’t got in the way I would have read it in one sitting and that’s a fact! As I mentioned this is the third book in the series and it’s definitely a series where you need to read the trilogy to truly appreciate them, fully as the previous books leading up to Pay The Penance very much lay the foundations to this final and throughly gripping instalment.
Rob Ashman has created some incredible characters, Lucas and his side kick Harper are back along with Moran , and what a combination they make. Author Rob Ashman hasn’t made life easy for poor old Lucas, he’s hit rock bottom, but there’s one thing that’s keeping him going, he wants vengeance for all the terrible things the Mechanic has done, and nothing’s going to get in his way. I just love Lucas and Harper the humour and banter between the pair add some light relief to this dark read. They aren’t your typical heroes by any means, but they are refreshingly original, and I found myself cheering them on as the mechanic plays a deadly game of “cat and mouse with our unlikely heroes.
I have to mention the Mechanic what a complex and intriguing character the author has created, their a monster of the worse kind, but as in previous books in this series I did find I had some empathy for this very troubled soul as more of their past was revealed, at times I almost felt sorry for them, but this never lasted long, I much prefer a serial killer to be unlikable, but that’s the great thing about Rob Ashman’s writing he is able to evoke conflicting emotions and feelings towards his characters.
Pay The Penance made for another intense and a throughly enthralling read, I really couldn’t turn the pages on my kindle fast enough! Taut with tension the author manages to maintain the suspense to the last heart stopping chapter. Although I’m sorry this is the last book in the Mechanic series, I thought Rob Ashman bought the series to a very satisfying and fitting conclusion, at this point I was holding my breath, as the suspense reached fever pitch. This has really been a fantastic series, each book has made for an entertaining and utterly gripping read, without a doubt ALL three books in the series will be in my top reads of 2017 list.
After reading the first two books in the #Mechanic series and being totally blown away by them I was frantically counting the days until I could get my hands on Pay the Penance to to see the conclusion.
These really should be read in order, don’t miss a single sentence of pure suspense and action. I needed to see Lucas and Harper again to follow their journey chasing Mechanic. This duo work so well, there is so much invested in the relationship both work wise and personally. Lucas had his world torn apart by killer Mechanic so justice is needed. Detective Moran also gets caught up in the investigation unwittingly getting a bit too close and lives are put at risk.
We get to see a broader view of Mechanic this time, warped, sadistic, freakin’ crazy doesn’t begin to cover it but I kind of admire their pure evil manipulation! And perhaps there is a little insight into why they behave as they do.
Mechanic is intent on revenge and determined to get Lucas and Harper to pay penance for previous events, there is so much corruption and murder involved you just know this can’t end well but which way will it go!?
I really enjoy the writing style, Rob manages to create these characters so they are gritty but down to earth, you immediately bond with them and after three books feel every inch of their trauma. Yes there is violence but it is so integral that it almost becomes the norm, there are a few parts that aren’t pleasant if you are squeamish.
My heart was hammering as I neared the climax of this book and as much as I wanted to know the outcome I was distraught that it was going to be the end. I do wonder how Rob sleeps at night when he has such evil as the Mechanic running around in his mind! I’m just so thankful that it has found it’s way into print to make one of the best crime series for a very long time. I think everyone should get a taste of Mechanic …. bloody excellent!
My thanks to Rob and Sarah at Bloodhound books for my copy and inviting me on the tour. I read and reviewed voluntarily and wish I could give Pay the Penance way more than 5 stars!
Big thanks to Bloodhound Books and the author for the advanced ebook copy, and blog tour spot, in exchange for my honest review.
The third and final installment in the Mechanic trilogy! Its been awhile since I have had a series or trilogy where I loved all the books and gave them all 5 stars. PAY THE PENANCE was a fantastic end to this serial killer thriller series. We're back with the characters we know and love, and love to hate, this was a rollercoaster of book and I couldn't stop reading!
With Lucas' world falling apart, he is only focused on one thing, finding and killing the Mechanic. If you've read books one and two, THOSE THAT REMAIN and IN YOUR NAME, then you know what the Mechanic is capable of and what a truly sadistic killer they are. With Lucas, Harper and Moran reunited, they are on their final hunt for the Mechanic. But in these situations, are you really the predator, or are you simply the prey of the Mechanic? It seems this killer is always one step ahead of them.
I don't want to ruin too much of the plot for anyone that either hasn't read the first two, or is anxiously waiting to pick up book three! All you need to know is that this will not disappoint. We get to see a different side to Mechanic, they have a demon from their past that they need to overcome and you almost find it easier to relate to them, and dare I say it, like the killer. The sadistic and often torturous methods used for killing will make you cringe at times, but I would expect no less from Ashman's series. This is a truly disturbed and psychotic individual, so you feel so conflicted when you start to feel sorry for them.
Overall, if you want a serial killer thriller with a unique twist (from the first book that carries on) then you definitely need to pick this one up! Not for the faint of heart - there is a lot of violence, but that is what you'll come to expect from Ashman's Mechanic series.
I give this book, and the whole series, 5/5 stars!
The Mechanic Trilogy by Rob Ashman. I finished book 3 last night, Pay The Penance, I read all 3 within 5 days. Mechanic is, by far, the most twisted, sick, evil, scary and horrendous serial killer I've ever read about. These are nerve shattering, heart pumping, nail biting, goosebumps all over your body books. I will never forget reading these books and will not stop raving about them. OUTSTANDING.
I found this to be an immensely enjoyable trilogy. If you've already read the first two books I'm sure you don't need any encouragement to read the last in the series. You won't be disappointment. When you get to 75% be prepared to clear your schedule; you're not going to want to put this down. It's an awesome ending by an author who has been firmly added to my mailing list.
Pay the Penance by Rob Ashman. Murder. Corruption. Revenge. Lucas has been tracking a killer, known as Mechanic, when his world is shattered. Unable to continue his hunt for the murderer he is forced to rely on his friend and colleague Dick Harper. But Harper has a knack for not playing by the rules. He doesn’t disappoint.Meanwhile Detective Moran is trying to piece her life back together. The police stumble upon new evidence without grasping its significance. She has to divert the investigation if she is to survive. The police are closer to Mechanic than they realise which puts Moran right in the firing line.Mechanic, as usual, has other plans and the consequences for Lucas and Harper are terrifying… OMG. What a read. Absolutely fantastic with brilliant characters. I loved Lucas Harper and Moran. They were my favourite characters. I thought mechanic was evil. I really loved the ending. And how everything turned out. Full of twists and plots. Definitely worth more than 5*. Bloodhound books.
The final instalment in The Mechanic series follows on swiftly from that eye watering ending of “In Your Name”. The opening scene in the Bassanio household is pretty laid back and could almost lull you into a false sense of security but if you have read Rob’s books then you know that this man’s mind is more twisted than a corkscrew! So do not be fooled! Laid back is not a term that can be used to describe Pay The Penance!
The Mechanic is off on a bit of a busman’s holiday to Sorrento while we peer into the car crash that has become Lucas’s life. Lucas has turned to the drink and he is unravelling big time! Harper is the only one he can turn to bring some closure to the events that have rocked his life. A telephone call propels them straight back into the hunt for the Mechanic and from there on in it’s a rollercoaster ride of a read that will leave you reeling, shaking and in emotional turmoil!
There is so much I want to tell you about #PayThePenance but I can’t tell you for fear of spoiling the plot for you. It suffices to say that it is one hell of a twisted cat and mouse game that has built up over the series and comes to a thrilling and nail-biting climax! I don’t usually get hung up on reading books in the right order but with this series, it is a MUST!
Lucas, Harper and Moran are all brought back together for the final hunt for The Mechanic. But when the Mechanic is around you just need to question who is the hunter and who are the hunted!
Lucas is clearly falling to pieces in this book and the struggle for him was real; you could feel his pain on every page and stage of the book but as a reader, I was right behind his quest to bring the Mechanic down. Lucas and Harper work so well together, they both bounce off each other and despite the tension, the humour and camaraderie between them is an absolute classic! Add Moran into the mix and we have dynamite! She is as sharp as a tack and I love her character, so glad she made the final in the series. Ohh god though that Detective Mills, he was as slippery as an eel and a few times I wanted the Mechanic to come make him pay.
Pay the Penance though, for me, was all about the Mechanic; I’ve said it before what a twisted and sadistic character Rob has created here, but this time around I was so conflicted reading the Mechanic’s narrative. How was it possible to fear and loathe someone so much yet at the same feel sorry for them? The Mechanic is clearly a cold and calculated killer – there is no denying that but this time around we see another side to The Mechanic, a side that will have you conflicted as you read – is it possible to feel sorry for someone so clearly psychotic. Torturous and sadistic methods of killing are the name of the game for Mechanic and their idea of R&R was so sick and twisted that my eyes watered reading it! Never gratuitous though, always fitting in perfectly with the storyline
Confession time – I actually liked the Mechanic – actually more than that – I admired their chilling intelligence; always one step ahead of everyone else; that torturous toying with their prey – call me sick and twisted but hey that’s the way the cookie crumbles!
If you have read the first in the series then you will know that The Mechanic has some serious psychiatric issues going on – those internal voices and noises disappeared for a while but hell Pay the Penance brought them back with a vengeance and #NoSpoilers but let’s just say the closure to this part of the storyline was extremely satisfying!
Pay the Penance was an absorbing and compelling read that provided the perfect conclusion to what has been an intense and satisfying trilogy. It delivered everything I could ever ask for, convincing character development; riveting and complex plots that left you reeling; twists and turns that had your head spinning and a series that I will never forget!
This is book three of a trilogy that is so good that you need to read books one and two first. If you haven't then please also stop reading this review as it might contain spoilers. So with how book two was left, OMG, I really had to start this one straight away, even though it was already past my bedtime. I read until I couldn't keep my eyes open and reluctantly had to put it down. But I picked it up again as soon as I woke up and cracked back on with it - luckily I don't work Mondays. Only stopping to attend to the laundry - the only chore I can't blag when I want to read rather than do the housework I am supposed to get done! Lucas is a broken man. Harper is helping him in the only way he can - with duplicity and rule-breaking. Eventually he reminds Lucas of his need for justice - in a vengeful manner that is and together the two of them seek out Moran again both approaching her in very different ways. One way works and she, albeit reluctantly, agrees to assist them in their renewed hunt for Mechanic whose life has been reinvented once again after also suffering loss. She helps them with a paper trail and also does her best to stifle her own ongoing official investigation when it threatens to interfere. But will that be enough and what will it really cost her? And, more importantly, can the trio pool enough resources, skills, intelligence, and indeed luck to finally, once and for all, defeat Mechanic. So, I read this trilogy start to finish in less than two days. I know I am a prolific reader but that's impressive even for me. I usually like to mix and match genres and, although the general plan was to binge straight through, I wasn't sure I'd be able to carry it out. But the story was so gripping, Mechanic so great a baddie that I really, really needed to know what was going to happen in the end. With an ever increasing body count, I placed bets with myself as to who would be left at the end - yep - I did get a bit involved in it all :) This book was a bit different from the others (which were also different from each other tbh) insofar as it was pretty much a cat-and-mouse game all the way through. Again the author duped me into believing something and disbelieving something else, only to pull the rug out from under me several times along the way. I love the way he does this - keeps me guessing, on my toes, spinning me round... Cos there's only really one way that this can all end. Or is there? I mean, together with Mechanic, he's duped me and the rest of the cast the whole way through this trilogy, who's to say he hasn't got just one more curve ball up his sleeve...
Pay The Penance is the concluding book of The Mechanic Trilogy, WOW! What a read, I will admit to reading this book in one sitting. I tried to put the book down, but I kept picking it straight back up. So I settled in for the journey. What a roller coaster of a journey it was. We are taken through the finale with great skill - there were some superb sentences that are dark and sarcastic, and I re-read them due to the clever wording and they made me smile. Lucas and HARPER ARE NOT FINISHED WITH the Mechanic who has bruised this pair and battered them physically and emotionally. they want and end. WIll they get it? There are quite a few elements of the storylines that needed tying up and Ashman delivers this without cutting corner or compromising the plot. I was yet again mesmerised in to the fascinating personality that is The Mechanic, and getting deeper into there mind, which is a dangerous place to stay for too long... and I really felt for the character without condoning the devilish crimes/gut wrenching tortures they delve in to. Ashman has delivered another creatively brilliant novel to the readers. it is an extremely alluring read with repulsive crimes, but is too enthralling to put down. An exceptional conclusion to an amazing trilogy that kept giving in more than one way. These three books drew me in and kept me captivated and that as a reader is what you are looking for. I am looking forward to what Ashman can deliver after this, and am sure it will be as intricate, stunning and dark! This is truly a trilogy not to be missed, and I shall be revisiting them again...
Lucas’ world came to an end in In Your Name. He is broken, shattered, and although he still wants to stop the Mechanic he can’t. He sends Harper to do the work, but Harper has a bad habit of not following instructions. Lucas also calls in Moran who has trying to put the last year behind her and move on. Moran has cut Lucas and Harper out of her life and tried to sweep her connection to them under the rug so her supervisors don’t find out. But Lucas draws her in again to fight to stop the Mechanic.
I have not gotten the chance to read book two but I had no problem hopping into Pay the Penance, I’m sure this is from having some background with Those That Remain. I felt horrible for Lucas, especially when you learn what happened just before the main event. I can understand how everything has gone to hell in the last year. I also understand why Moran doesn’t want to have anything to do with this. But they are the ones who have to stop the Mechanic, willing or not.
This is a great story and an amazing end to the series. Lots of action, blood, and death but that’s what I come to expect. I will definitely be getting In Your Name to find out what I missed. But if you like high octane thrillers I strongly recommend checking out the Mechanic series.
I received Pay the Penance from Bloodhound Books for free. This has in no way influenced my opinion of this book.
This is the third book in the fantastic Mechanic trilogy by Rob Ashman - I have now read all three books in the series and I can happily confirm that I loved each one of them and gave them all five stars!
The main characters of Harper, Lucas and Moran are brilliant, they are so different but work so well together and I loved the angle that this book takes with them plotting to try and finally get their revenge. They have a well thought out plan, but will it be enough to actually put a stop to Mechanic's actions once and for all? I wasn't disappointed with the ending and I did have a sneaky smile when I reached the last page! I feel that the books are best read in sequence so that you get the best out of the trilogies story - they are definitely worth it. For me the three Mechanic books have been some of the best that I have read so far in 2017 and I cannot recommend them highly enough!
This is the final book in the mechanic trilogy and once again the action is fast and furious. Lucas and Harper draw Detective Moran into the final chase to stop the mechanic, the twisted and sadistic killer of the series. In this book we get an insight into what drives the mechanic. The characters work well together and the level of corruption and violence is portrayed so well by the author, this book is a gripping and exciting read, full of twists and turns. This is a series that deserves reading in order and will not disappoint, you will be unable to put Pay the Penance down until you have reached the final word. I received this book as an arc from Bloodhound books in return for an unbiased review. I have no hesitation in awarding it 5*.
The last installment of the trilogy, and the books could be read out of order, each one fills in some of the past history. Definitely a worthwhile read. In book 2 one of the 3 good guys dies at the hands of Mechanic. Luckily a new character, Moran, joins Lucas and Harper in the quest to, once and for all, get rid of Mechanic. More twists and turns, almost got her, but wait, there’s more.... We meet the person responsible for the creation of Mechanic, not a redeemable bone in his body and you wonder why Mechanic allows him to talk to her on that manner. She doesn’t disappoint, he too pays the price for her creation. The last chapter takes you back to the first chapter where we learn about the silly picture. So glad I found this trilogy and discovered a new author, Rob Ashman.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I am not much of a stickler for typos any more as a life lo n typist of 250 words a minute I can get over it. The plot, twist and turns keep me engrossed. This has been on of the best indie books I have read. U got the first free and bought the other two. As an avid read of 3 to 4 books a week, I have a great time starting with book one a following the plots of the sequels Some I have no no idea what could possibly come next, and this is one of those. Congrats on the first 2!
What a pleasure is has been to read the Mechanic trilogy. Full marks to the author for giving us a really rip roaring twisted serial killer and great characters. I would advise readers to read the books in order.
The final book in the trilogy gives us all the answers we were looking for. I have to say the conclusion is worth the wait. Lucas Harper and Moran are characters that you care about. I also had some sympathy for the Mechanic , a deeply flawed serial killer. I cannot wait to see what the author does next.
Well i have just finished Pay the penance the last book in in Rob Ashmans mechanic trilogy and what a cracking read it was. I was not sure what to expect when i started reading the series Rob was not a author that was known to me, but i was quickly drawn in to the tale and the pages flew by. This is a gritty, dark compelling tale and not for the squimish amongst you but boy is it dammed good. If you are looking a thrilli g next read with the empathise on thrilli g the you need to read these books, i guarantee you will not be disappointed. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
I had to drag my eyes through the first couple of chapters . For no particular reason it just didn't catch me. Then it took off like a rocket that wouldn't stop until I finished the book. Thus the title of this review. Don't want to be a spoiler so I'll just say that this particular ending was the perfect choice when it could have gone so many different ways. Read the first two books and then relish this one.
Pay The Penance by Rob Ashman The only thing unsatisfying about finishing Pay The Penance was knowing that I'd finished the series! Without giving anything away, all i can really say is that I'm now a NO 1 Rob Ashman fan. Pay The Penance ticked all the boxes for me. mechanic faced a few altercations which had my heart pounding and evoked feelings I didn't expect. Again a well paced, enjoyable read
This was the 3rd instalment of the mechanic series all three were brilliant with reading. Don't normally buy serial novels, as I find usually the author gets stale and tends to waffle on a bit so to make the book worth the money. This one was different it has actually finished, now can this author came up with another great read without having to buy more than 1 book at a time. Series are ok as long as you can read as a stand alone novel.
What a great series of books! One of the best I've read in a really long time. You really should read the first two to get the whole background story. I loved the ending to this one and it finally brought closure to all the characters. The characters were well developed, the storyline was fast-paced, and all of it very enjoyable. Keep up the great work Mr. Ashton. I'm looking forward to more of your work.
