Another Freebie Fail...

A professional in child care, Arianna can’t turn flustered and completely clueless Brant away when he shows up at her child spa with a crying baby in tow. She thought she’ be in and out, easy peasy. But the more time she spends with baby Grace and her reluctant maybe father, the harder it is for Arianna to stay emotionally distant.

Millionaire and famous manwhore, Brant likes routine. But opening the door to his penthouse suite and finding a baby with a note claiming it’s his, throws his every routine out the window.

This is advertised as a romantic comedy and I’ll give them that. At least when it comes to Brant’s interaction with baby Grace. Because outside of that, there was nothing feel good funny about this story.

We have a virgin h and a manwhore H. And in case you missed the fact that this guy likes variety with his recitation of the list of women he banged in his penthouse (the realtor who sold him the place, the decorator who decorated, the lawyer who works for him and some high society babe) we get the cringe worthy confirmation that if the baby is his, he has to narrow the mommy possibilities out of a narrow pool of 25 candidates.

The whole story is Arianna and Brant bonding over baby Grace and sifting through all of Brant’s past lovers to see who left the baby. This meant awkward scenes with some pretty disturbing past lovers of Brant’s. How is this romantic for the h? How is she still finding this guy attractive? I felt like she was so desperate for a home and family, that Arianna was just seeing what she wanted to see and not really taking in the whole picture.

Throw in the bomb shell of just who the mother of baby Grace is and the small things I was clinging to, to convince myself this was somehow going to be a salvageable read went right out the window.

SAFETY: Major Spoilers ahead!

TBH the storyline, as taken from the blurb, is not my coppa. But the reviews were positive and I wanted smth light…

Well, I would appreciate a warning for such ‘weird’ readers as me, that this book has 27-year-old virgin heroine.
27!!! Twenty-seven!!! Ugh!!!

Did I miss the signs???

I enjoyed the book till aprox. 50%, the h was strong and sassy till… till the hormones.

I didn’t care for the male protagonist, disgusting manwhore – *eww* – I wondered how he got a baby and not a herpes (or/and chlamydia, hepatitis C etc etc etc)… Sorry…

Shock at 66% - she was a virgin. Did I miss the signs???

The rest was OTT unrealistic, implausible and silly.
How could they travel out of the country (USA -> France) with a baby without any legal documents???

The real-mother twist disturbed me, and NOT because of the age of the mother, but because of her marital status.

I need to admit, that the book wasn't bad written and till 50% deserved my 3 star rating.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

Single dad & virgin heroine - my least favorite combination!

P.S. And he has been a man-whore while she has stayed a virgin until she is 27.

Finished. Oh Thank God it's finished!
I really thought I'd like this what with all the 4-5 star reviews but God! This was so effing BORING! I swear I don't understand why this was published? I mean it literally has no story!
I also don't understand why people liked it. Big believer of "To each his own" so no judging but man! What were they thinking?

I'm trying really hard to come up some example or something to justify my opinion but I just can't. There's no example cause there's nothing there. At All.

Honestly if this is what her other books are like, I'm never reading a J.J. Knight again. Maybe not even if they are different.
Oh yes. It left that bad an impression.

description

Kitap zaten romantik komedi.

description

Yazar Dell'in geçmişinden bahsetmiş.

"Different worse or different better?"
"Different perfect."

In a fit of Brilliance, I get the idea to place her own fist near her lips. This interests her, and she chews her gummy mouth against her own thumb. The silence is blissful.
"All right, then," I say. "Now we can talk like a rational people."

5 things about Single dad on top :

1 Superb characters
Dell Brant liked his space, his women, his toys and his privacy. He is controlled, methodical and driven. He was also funny, charming and self assured.

Arianna was sassy, resourceful, combative and fiercely independent. She had a temper and was a master of negotiations.
She was determined to provide a safe, loving environment for her charges.

The banter between these two was out of this world but the tender moments turned my knees to jelly.

2 Turned the secret baby trope on it's head
Usually secret babies exist to bring a separated couple together. At their tender age they act as a buffer, a common interest, hope for the future, reminder of better times and matchmakers for the miserable lovers.
I feel for these babies. I really do.

But Grace gets to be a baby, go on a shopping spree and terrorize a bachelor household without any excessive duties.

The whole baby business is a racket. I wonder if I own any companies in this market. Perhaps I should.

“That was pretty tough,” Arianna says as we walk down the sidewalk back to our building.
I don’t answer. I’m holding the baby now. I may never let another person touch this child.
This is after their visit to the doctor where Grace gets her shots.

He also managed to find a couple girl outfits that he liked. “This princess will end up saving YOU.

3 Dell and Grace
I melted watching Dell and Grace glow closer. Dell was protective, indulgent, resilient and terrified at times. But his priority was Grace's welfare, security and happiness.

“I suppose I will have to prepare a room. My African tribal mask guest room will probably give her nightmares.”
“It might give me nightmares,” I say.

4 Mystery of Grace's mother
I enjoyed Dell scrambling to find Grace's mother with Arianna's help. He did his research, surveyed footage, came up with a list of suspects...I was waiting for him to pull up a white board and establish a time line.

...Or the twenty-five possible mothers of Grace.

5 Mood & writing
This book was mostly funny, quite romantic and low angst. All winners in my book. Plus I like how the mystery was solved and I was satisfied with the ending.
And Dell has a butler, Bernard. I want a butler, too.

“I recognize that this constitutes a black mark on my character,” I say.
She holds up a hand. “Your character is already coal to me.

The writing flowed easily, like smooth melted chocolate and I'll definitely be trying more by this author.

Trust Jelly Knees and give this one a try.

UPDATE on November 8th. Going to my NO WAY JOSE shelf from my MAYBE shelf. This review has all the info of the WHYs. I mean, in books land, things can get worse. 🙄🙄

https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Original note:
I'm on the fence. More to the "not reading side" of it.
This is a overused plot ( that I confess is my weakness. Lol) and I wonder what kind of conflict the author came up with to fill out 389 pages? I read a review that said it was boring. That's what I am afraid of. Nd there are not many reviews. Wait and see.

And this is what I meant. Things can get dull.

<><> Story Overview <><>

^^ ~ Dell walks out of his apartment to find a baby on his doorstep with a note indicating he is the father. Shocked and clueless he heads downstairs to the Del Gato Child Spa for help.

Arianna owns the child center and steps in to help. The tiny baby girl immediately captures her heart.

<><> Characters <><>
Hero: Dell Brant
~ Age: 36
~ Occupation: self made billionaire. Invests in real estate, start up companies, and has various other investments

~ Dell grew up poor, but was determined to have a better life. He worked hard, changed his name and is now a very wealthy bachelor. He very much enjoys women, but mostly because of the physical aspect they share. He has no desire to fall in love and settle down.

Heroine: Arianna Hart
~ Age: 27
~ Occupation: owner of Del Gato Child Spa

~ Arianna grew up rich and was mostly raised by nannie’s. Because of that, she wants to make sure children don’t grow up lonely or neglected.

<><> A Few Thoughts <><>
^^ ~ I struggled with Dell. He was a major man whore and it was ridiculous that he had to “narrow the list down to 25” when trying to figure out who the baby momma was. This doesn’t mean he slept with 25 women last year. No - this means he slept with 25 women in just one month. So if that was a typical month for him and I do the math, then it means he slept with almost 300 women in just one year. Is that supposed to make him a likable character? I’ve read a ton of books, but never with a bigger manwhore than this - and I wasn’t impressed by him.

Additionally, his character attributes were not appealing. It was like sex was all he thought about or all he cared about. When he first encountered Arianna, the only thing he could focus on were her “luscious breasts” rather than the baby predicament he was going through. He came across as crass and shallow.

And instead of accepting responsibility with the baby, he only cared about pawning the three month old little girl off on someone else he didn’t even know so that he could make it to a meeting. And, in the beginning he referred to the baby as “it” instead of “she”. The below was his opinion at 20%:
- “Either the child will not be mine, placed by some desperate building worker who had access to this floor. Or the mother will be located and forced to reclaim her offspring. I see no scenario where the infant finds a permanent home here.”

Yup - all of that really made him swoony ….NOT!!

Just because of the Hero, this was almost a DNF for me. The only redeeming thing about this story was the baby and the dog, and their scenes weren’t that riveting.

^^ ~ Ariana - a 27 year old virgin. She had been waiting for the right man to give up her precious V-Card, but then she doesn’t hesitate to give up her virginity to the biggest man whore in Manhattan. I didn’t feel their chemistry, but according to Arianna she was willing to put aside her principles or ideals for the following reason:
~~ “I’m ready to see what I’ve been missing. With a master.”

^^ ~ to add insult to injury, there was a time when Ariana was headed over to Dell’s for what she thought was going to be her night to finally have sex. But Dell invited her over to babysit so he could go to a charity event with another woman. Shows how clueless this woman was.

<><> The Basics <><>
- Content Warning: manwhore, child abandonment,
- Setting: Manhattan

- First time they sleep together: 90%
- Safe sex? Yes. Condoms were used.

- OW/OM drama? a bit
- H/h cheat? No

- Did I cry? No
- Did I laugh? No

This book started off really cute and funny. I enjoyed the lead characters and the premise that brought them together. As the story progressed, I thought it stalled. What made it strong to begin with dissipated. The characters behaved in ways that were too irrational and unbelievable for me. Interesting background and motivations for the characters was introduced, but not explored in any meaningful way. I wish the author had gone further, dug deeper. Maybe she was trying to keep it light to characterize the story as "romantic comedy", but I think great characters can be romantic and funny and also have depth. The circumstances were predictable, and I hate to say it, but dull. It felt to me like the author didn't know how to end the story, and it fizzled out with an abrupt ending at 75%. I went from loving it to just okay about it.

HANDS DOWN, ONE OF THE MOST ENTERTAINING & HEARTWARMING BOOKS I'VE READ THIS YEAR!!!
Title: Single Dad On Top
Author: J.J. Knight
Designation: Contemporary Romantic Comedy, First Book of Duet But Can Be Read As Standalone, Happy For Now Ending
Reading Platform: Kindle Edition
My Rating: Five Deliciously Cute and Oh So Sexy Stars*****
**Disclaimer: Single Dad On Top is the first book of a romantic comedy duet featuring Dell Brant and Arianna Hart. Single Dad On Top can be read as a standalone and does end with a satisfying happy for now ending. The sequel, Single Dad On Top Plus One is already available and not only gives readers more insight into the lives and families of both characters, but also a more definitive happy ending. For a more gratifying and enjoyable reading experience, I recommend reading Single Dad On Top first and then Single Dad On Top Plus One. And yes, I've read both. Actually, I binge read the two books over the course of a single weekend and the only thing I didn't like was reading 'The End' on the final page. I loved the characters and story so much, I wanted more, more, more! lol...

Oh my! I love, love, love Single Dad On Top by J.J. Knight! As many of you know, J.J. Knight is one of the pen names for the very talented Deanna Roy. It matters little what name Knight/Roy uses since everything she writes is magically delicious and Single Dad on Top is no exception. And no, there's no magic or fantasy in either book, just good old-fashioned and very well written fictional contemporary romantic comedy. Without a doubt, Single Dad On Top and Single Dad On Top Plus One are two of the most entertaining books I've read this year. I was completely hooked within the first few pages of both books and simply could not turn the pages fast enough. But as usual, I digress so let's talk details! Single Dad On Top is a fast-paced, fun-filled, exceptionally well crafted and edited, full-length standalone comedy filled to the brim witty dialogue, laugh-out-loud humor, a cast of engaging and endearing characters, a little heartrending drama, a few spicy plot twists, an attraction that won't be denied, a whole lot of heartwarming romance, and an emotionally moving story that will tug at your heartstrings. The narrative is beautifully written in the first person with clearly defined his and her perspectives from the two protagonists, handsome billionaire Dell Brant aka Hasmund McDonald and beautiful child day spa owner Arianna Hart. These two characters were a match made in heaven and complemented each other perfectly. The dialogue is smart, snappy, at times outrageously funny, well executed and flows effortlessly. I snickered, snorted, snuffled, chuckled, giggled, sniffled and sobbed through the entire book but by the end, I was happy, satisfied and well entertained. There were times I laughed so hard I actually peed myself! TMI? Maybe, but it's the truth. I was immediately smitten with handsome self-made billionaire playboy and serial womanizer Dell Brant. Dell is a tough, ruthless, businessman accustomed to getting everything he wants, not only in business but his personal life as well. And Dell Brant never double dipped. He's more of a love and leave 'em after one encounter kinda guy, but women still vied for the opportunity of being seen on his arm, even if it's only once. His refuge in the storm is his luxurious penthouse at the top of one of his many New York City real estate holdings, aptly named the Dell Brant Building, and even has his own butler. But even a handsome player like Dell Brant has secrets and all it takes to bring him to his knees is one little frilly bundle of joy left anonymously at his door. Dell may be a cutthroat businessman but when it comes to three-month-old babies, he's helplessly and hopelessly out of his element. Fortunately, there's help nearby in the form of a day spa for children located in his building owned by the lovely, kindhearted, and very intelligent Arianna Hart. Arianna is such a joy. I fell in love with Arianna and was so hoping she would find her happy ending. And when these two characters meet, sparks fly! There has never been a more perfect example of opposites attracting or so it seems at first. They actually have a lot more in common than either realize. Arianna is definitely not Dell Brant's usual fare, but these two very independent but lonely people find common ground and bond over a precious little soul, but it's an arduous journey filled with secrets, hard truths, several surprises, a few heartaches, and a whole lot of laughs. No spoilers from me but I will say this.... Womanizing playboy billionaire who gets a very unexpected surprise-check! A kindhearted daycare owner who can't deny a child in need...or the alleged father-check! An adorable baby who captures the heart of two lonely souls-check! Lies, secrets, deceit and a few hijinks-check! Undeniable attraction, fiery passion, steamy sex, heartwarming romance, and a love that will change three lives-You bet! That and a whole lot more!

Did I like this book? No, I LOVED it! Would I recommend it? You bet and I am but only for adult readers since it does contain some tastefully written but very steamy love scenes! Hubba! Hubba! Will I read this author again? Absolutely! And finally, was I entertained? Completely! Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read! Hands down, one of the most entertaining books I've read this year.

A fun, fast paced, witty, standalone single dad romance

Single Dad on Top is a fun, fast paced, standalone single dad romance between a playboy billionaire and a feisty woman running a childcare business who gets caught up the whirlwind drama of a man and the unexpected baby left on his doorstep. The book is well written, easy to read, with a few twists and turns that will have you intrigued as a reader.

Told from dual perspective, Arianna and Dell have a strong back and forth relationship that sizzles to burning in a short period. It takes a little while to warm up to the two, especially Dell who swings back and forth as secrets are unravelled.

If you enjoy quirky and witty books, especially fans of single dad romances, definitely give this book a try - I liked it!

Captivating

When CEO mongrel finds a baby left at his door, he panics to a point. As he tries to just leave the child at the child care spa in his building, he finds no opening a an owner that takes no carp from him. Arianna is all heart and helps Dell out until a nanny can be found.
But another goal is to find out who the mother is, even before the DNA test comes back.
Dell has never met a woman like Arianna and she is seeing a side to Dell others never get to.
Well written self-contained story that's very entertaining to read.

Dell opens his door to go to work one day to find a baby with a note. His whole world turns upside down in one day. He turns to the day care in his building for help as he has no idea what to do. There he finds Arianna the owner who has no problem setting him straight. Slowly they both open their hearts up to the baby and then each other. You'll laugh, cheer, and cry a little but such a wonderful book. She has written another great story.

I love women. The smell of them. Their skin. How their hips fit against mine. The spread of their thighs. That perfect sensation of slipping inside their bodies. Exquisite. But I sure as hell wouldn’t want to live with one of them.

"Dell Brant, Do the DNA. She’s yours."

“Foster care? What if she is mine? I won’t have my child in foster care.” I let out a long sigh to avoid punching him in the gut.

So I do the only thing I can. I tell him exactly how I feel. “I don’t trust you with her. Let’s call CPS now.”

I like the way she says “We,” as if the two of us are in this together. I suppose we are. I’m not sure what is keeping her here, other than perhaps fear that I will cause harm to the child.

“I’m sorry about what I said,” I tell her. “I was an ass. I’m lost here. Completely and utterly lost.” I pick up Grace and prop her against my shoulder. “I’m stuck. I need you. I’m an idiot. You are the genius. Can you please have pity on a pathetic stupid man and help me tonight?”

“Sorry. I’m not used to company.” “Well, get used to it,” she says. “You’re a dad now.”

I confess that I didn't know that it was possible to fuck up the baby-trope this badly. There really isn't anything that a baby can't fix, but this book managed to fall into that category of just-so-fucking-bad.

Dell was a dick, and Arianna was a pushover. On top of that, they knew each other for like, five days. On top of all of that, every single character in the novel was just really fucking annoying. And to top it all off, they fucking flew to Paris for no reason.

It's been quite a long time since a romance novel angered me this much, but this book succeeded at this task. It really doesn't take much for me to be pleased by a romance novel. I really do read it for a light and fluffy escape. So how did this book fail epically?

A question we will never know the answer to.

And I'm out.

A quick, funny, cute read. It was hilarious to read about the failing of Dell as a dad. The development was amazing to read. I loved his relationship with Arianna. The plot was well structured. I am definitely going to read the sequel 💙

I really enjoyed this book. It had a different element to the way single dad books go. I didn't want to put this down from start to finish
