About the author

Alan Snow is a prolific English author and illustrator, celebrated for his intricate visual storytelling. After studying at Salisbury College of Art, he illustrated over 160 books and contributed to animation and video game design. He is most famous for the Ratbridge Chronicles, particularly the 2005 novel Here Be Monsters!. This richly illustrated work, set in a fantastical Victorian world, inspired the 2014 Academy Award-nominated stop-motion film The Boxtrolls.

How Dinosaurs Really Work is a book about dinosaurs. This book features some great dinosaurs facts for children who love dinosaurs. The book starts by telling you when dinosaurs lived and moves onto describing their appearance and then more details about specific types of dinosaurs such as Stegosaurus and Tyrannosaurus Rex.

I liked this book as it is very colourful and approachable for children. I also liked all the different interesting facts that feature in the book and all the illustrations on each page.

This book would be appropriate for children aged 6 to 10 years old.

This book would be suitable to be put on the bookshelf in a classroom for children to read individually. It could also be used in Literacy if children wanted information to write stories or their own facts page about dinosaurs.

As the officially designated owner of T.T.A. (Tiny T-Rex Arms), I was eager to read about my distant relatives - how they looked, how we know how they looked, and why they are no longer with us; this funny, information packed book explained all this and a lot more! Packed with fascinating snippets of information - did you know that despite the massive size of a Tyrannosaurus Rex, it had the same size brain as us? This is a joyous, enlightening read, with jostling dino cartoons telling each other jokes in the margins. A hoot!

This is a fabulous non-fiction picture book about dinosaurs and what we have learned about them. The pictures are fabulously detailed, and the text is versatile. In addition to the general text in the middle of the pages, there are small anecdotes around the outsides that make learning about dinosaurs even more fun. Great for elementary aged kids!

A nonfiction book about dinosaurs with very cartoonish images. There is a lot of good information about dinosaurs provided but some of the border illustrations were distracting. The dinosaurs are portrayed as mechanical beings with smaller dinosaurs inside working the gears.

Not my favorite book about dinosaurs but this book will satisfy that never-ending desire for dinosaur books.

What an excellent dinosaur book for children. The intended age group is accurate. The puns and dino jokes would go over a toddler's head and much of the comparisons wouldn't make sense.

The book is however loaded with info and fun facts, but it is in no way overwhelming. There is also lots of drawings that will appeal to kids of all ages.
