It’s hard being the daughter of a serial killer. Especially when your father has a lot of sick, twisted fans…

Camille West is the daughter of the infamous Body in the Barrel Killer, the maniac who entombed his victims in large steel barrels after days of torture. When she reluctantly returns to her hometown to take care of her ailing mother, there is a surprise waiting in her new house.

A barrel. A body. And a promise.

Camille has worked hard to forget her small hometown and the stain of her father’s crimes. But someone out there never forgot her…

If that wasn’t enough, her old flame Jake Musgrove is still in town, now working as a private investigator. His smirk and arrogance are a big part of why she fled her small town ten years ago.

Jake has screwed up pretty much everything in his life, but his biggest regret is how he let Camille walk away. Now that she’s back, he refuses to lose her again. He’s got to put it all on the line to protect her, but the killer is getting closer and he’s got to figure out who it is before Camille is entombed…

This romantic suspense novel is a page-turning standalone with an HEA and no cliffhangers.

Good Murder Mystery

A really good Kindle Unlimited read.
Journalist Cammy West returns to the small town of her birth and her father’s infamous crimes, only to acquire a stalker. Nothing in this small town is as it seems and Cammy learns that trusting could get her dead.
Solidly written small town murder mystery that kept me guess until the end. Plus there was a romantic story line that sizzled without overshadowing the suspense.

Thanks to the author for providing me a copy of this book in exchange for this honest review.

Camille West, after 10 years, decides to return to her hometown to write about the awful murders and other damage done by her father. She hires a private detective to help her gather information for the book not realizing until she meets him that he is Jake Musgrove, a former professor and boyfriend who left his teaching job to do detective work.

Camille’s world changes immediately upon arrival in town when she discovers a drum with a dead body in the basement of the house she is renting. This is similar to the method used by her father in his murders. With Jake’s help, she gets the police involved to investigate the murder and find out who the copycat killer is that appears to not be happy about Camille’s return.

Jake is not a typical former professor, which is one of the reasons he’s no longer a professor. Jake’s quick-tempered actions help Camille unravel this complex suspenseful mystery but also get him in trouble with the police (somewhat of a private investigator cliché). The old romance between Camille and Jake is still there which adds to the tension in the book, although more sexual in this case.

I wasn’t sure I would enjoy this book since it’s advertised as a romantic suspense which is not a type of book I typically read. However, although the book certainly has romance with a little graphic sex thrown in, I really enjoyed the flow and suspense of the book and I certainly kept reading to find out how the story progressed and ended. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and even found the romance, although somewhat predictable, a good enhancement. My favorite character though, is Deborah Turner, the female police detective, as her smart-alecky ways and profane language often added humor to some tense filled situations.

I settled in with "Entombed" for something more substantive than the last few fluffy romance novels I'd read. Author Ruth Parker delivers on the issue of substance with a tricky plot, complete with some wicked twists and turns. Journalist Cammy (Camille) West has returned to her hometown to research and write a book about the unspeakable murders her father committed. To help her she hired a former professor and forensic entomologist, now turned P.I. Jake Musgrove and Cammy had a history ten years ago and that passion hasn't abated no matter how hard Cammy denies it. And the plot gets even more complicated as other characters are introduced. This romantic thriller has a lot going for it; good character development and an original and engrossing plot. However I found myself tripping over the author's overdone metaphors and inane analogies. The judicious use of metaphors as a literary device is meant to allow for creativity in expressing nuances in experiences, emotions, etc. But the operative term here is "judicious". The storyline in this novel is strong enough to carry the reader through the experience without all the forced and reaching metaphors. They were more of a distraction than an enhancement. Distraction soon turned to annoyance from the constant barrage of clunky passages that occasionally ran to whole pages. Sometimes less is better. Three stars.

a successful NYC journalist is guilted in to returning home to care for her dying mother. Cammy left her small town to attend college shortly after her father confessed to the brutal murders of three women and a vicious attack on her mother. She is contemplating writing a book about the murders at the suggestion of her editor and hires an investigator to assist. That investigator turns out to be her former lover and professor and entomologist, Jake. But Cammy's plans are upended when a body, disposed of in her father's signature style is found in her basement. But someone is stalking Cammy intent on putting her body in a barrel.

this is a fast-paced story. The romance was predictable and only marginally annoying. I don't think much of professors who exploit their students and visa versa. The foul-mouthed police detective adds some humour even though she was not especially believable. and frankly, implausibility is kind of the name of the game in this story. Jake's escape from jail and the ease in which he goes secured information strained belief. But the suspense portion was pretty good. I did not care for the epilogue. Seems kind of retro and dopey for a successful career woman to give it all up to be with her man. Perhaps it is just cabin fever from my state's stay at home order but it was readable and entertaining despite the flaws.

Wow talk about suspenseful and fast paced. No shortage of drama or danger. Well written with great characters and a strong storyline. A dark thriller with lots of mystery. Cammie is the daughter of a famous serial killer who put his victims in barrels. She left her home town ten years ago in an effort to get away from the horrible memories. Forced to return to take care of her sick mother, she is greeted with a dark surprise. A barrel with a body and a promise. Her old flame Jake has always regretted letting her get away and is determined to win her back. He is a private investigator and is hot on the trail of whoever is trying to 'entomb' her. Quite chilling and a page turner for sure. I received an advance copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.

An excellent, dark and gripping read. The story grabbed you by the throat at the very beginning and didn't let go! It was intense, action packed and kept you guessing to the end.

The characters were great, and I find it hard to say whether my favourite was the troubled yet sincere heroine (Cammy), the firecracker detective Turner with the sailor's language, or the sweet yet devious, rule-braking hero (Jake).... Ok yes it has to be Jake!!

It you like an intense whodunnit thriller with fast pace and fantastic characters... Then look no further!

I received an arc of this book and have left an honest and independent review.

This is a fast paced thrill of a ride with some funny humor and sexy innuendos. Camille the daughter of the notorious body in a barrel serial killer returns home after 10 years to look after her sick mother. Jake a sexy P.I. regrets letting Camille slip through his fingers he is determined to win her back but first he has to keep her alive from the crazed copy cat killer who has already left her one body with the promise that her time will come.
Can Jake keep her safe solve the murders and win back Camille or will the copy cat make her another body in a barrel.
This book has great character development and will keep you turning pages until the very end.

Good storyline and suspense

More a 4.5 star to me but worth more than a 4 in our limited options. A good read with a unique storyline. Cammy's character was fairy well developed but we didn't learn anything about Jake's besides their relationship. The suspense was great and There were a couple twists at the end that I didn't see coming. Everything tied together well.

There were a couple inconsistencies that were pretty minor. A couple derogatory jokes were in there that I thought were pretty offensive and really didn't need to be included. An author should easily be able to get a point across with a joke without resorting to such things.

Entombed kept me entranced!

WOW! THIS is how I like my psychological thrillers! The characters were complex and multi-layered. The plot was absolutely riveting, creatively unique and satisfyingly fast paced. There was a nice balance of intrigue, humorous banter, suspense and romantic spark. If this is how Parker starts a series, I can't wait to see how she finishes one. This is a barrel full of thrills not to be missed!

*I received a complimentary ARC of this story in order to read and provide a voluntary, unbiased and honest review, should I choose to do so.

I have mixed feelings about this novel. On one hand, it's a fairly decent thriller, well-written, and pretty exciting. On the other hand, I called the major plot twist on page 15. I also have an issue with the whole "damaged woman falls for the somewhat brutish man because his violent side arouses her" thing. And the "intelligent woman walks away from her success and job because the man-child she's sleeping with wants her to stay in the small town where she'll have no real career opportunities" plot device.

This story is about a daughter who after much thought has decided to write a book about her father....a serial killer. Little does she know that by doing so she is putting herself in danger by a copycat killer. The characters in this book are extremely well written. There is humor, and mystery. I love the way this author writes and will be getting more of her books! I received ARC of this book. The review is voluntary and of my own opinion.

I received a copy from the author at my request and voluntarily chose to review. Entombed is an fast-paced mystery, with humor, suspense, a little romance, everything you want to find in a great story. The characters are much more than one-dimensional and quickly become people you can care about. Entombed is my favorite kind of book-one I hate to see come to an end!

Twisty mystery

I enjoyed the unexpected twists in the story. The romance that developed was good, too. The main characters are strong and vibrant. Looking forward to more stories in the series.
