A watched pot… The cases are stacking up; Jill has never been busier. But someone isn’t telling the truth and the consequences could be dire. …is a distraction from the custard creams.
Why didn't Jill just use her magic to paint the office? It annoys me that she uses it freely to cheat at petty things but doesn't use it to do stuff she deserves. I know painting her office might not be noted as deserving, but she did settle several super natural cases that she didn't get paid for. I would also have enjoyed the fairy wing incident to have been a more involved investigation.
Adele, love your Witch is Why series with all the twists and turns. Jill is an interesting character to say the least with her cheekiness and puns, plus the stage asides. Fascinating use of ordinary circumstances and three different worlds. I really like this series and highly recommend reading it to anyone interested in a wonderful story.
While I don't expect much from cozy mysteries, this series could easily be so much more with just a little more effort. I get that our protagonist is a witch and has an entire arsenal of magic at her disposal, but it would add depth to the series if she just had to work a little at using it.
And entertaining urban fantasy mystery series. A great cast of characters and a fun storyline. Jill Gooder a young woman who grew up in the human world with her adoptive family and her adoptive father a private investigator taught her everything he knew. When her adoptive father dies he leaves her the business and she takes over. She soon meets her birth mother and something happens. She soon acquires powers and then finds out she has more family living in the supernatural world and they are all witches. Follow along is she now Sonos mysteries and crimes in both the human world in the supernatural world. You will meet her crazy old grandmother her aunt to Nettie cousins and the ghost of her mother. Her please officer boyfriend crazy adoptive sister and her family. A fun and entertaining mix of mystery hi jinx in crime solving.
One of the things Jill finally does right is to fire the lazy house cleaner.
There's a new yarn store coming from Ma Chivers so there is no doubt that will lead to trouble. She's informed of food being stolen from a restaurant, Barry is having problems as is Hamlet and Amber and Pearl get two expensive puppies.
Other odd things happen like her grandmother's store being boarded up, whether someone goes insane or not, what happened to the bagpipe guy, what's Winky up to (and why doesn't she get rid of him?), why is there a sand pit in the back yard?, just how many witchfinders are running around and other problems with a dentist, a wing seller and a snake oil salesman.
She's definitely kept busy and it does help that Winky's role is a little diminshed.
I really enjoy this series. I especially like the audio version, as the narrator is great doing all the voices and accents. The characters are interesting and quirky and the names are even quirkier. Jill solves several mysteries during each book, both in the human world and in the sup (supernatural) world. All while keeping her human live-in boyfriend, her adoptive sister and family, and her PA's in the dark. Not easy when you consider a one-eyed talking cat in the office and all the other things that go on to complicate Jill's life. Humor abounds in this series, as well. It never gets too dark or gory, either.
I have just finished this ‘Witch’, number 22 in the series so far. Each book reads like the latest episode of a favourite tv show. The characters are all brilliant in their own unique ways, grandma and Winky still crack me up ;-) The plot with twists and turns throughout and the number of fantastic puns involving new character names are endless. The humour makes me chuckle as I’m reading. This series is a must read if you enjoy P.I mystery stories mixed with the supernatural, but with the gore. Please keep it up Adele.
If you've read the series through to this book, you have a pretty good idea of the character development. I'm not necessarily a fan of all of the characters and their interactions and of course some of the obstacles put in place to drive the stories are too contrived, but I still can't put the series down.
I like Jill, I love her big heart. She plays selfish and manipulative sometimes but she seems to be on the receiving end of the manipulation far more often than she is doling it out.
It seems like Jill Folder has more and more cases to solve and she is up to the task. Too bad that most are involving supernaturals and she doesn't get paid much. Her families and animals still provide some additional challenges. Love this series when I want to read something entertaining, magical and fun.
I've enjoyed this series. It's fun, light and keeps me entertained. The author is excellent at coming up with quirky names and crazy situations. This is my go to book when I just want to sit back and giggle a little.
Jill is so busy in this one with various cases and events that there is only very short progress on the backstory. However, this is Jill in rare form, fun as always, with Winky et al supporting in fine style.
Jill has a chance to finally rid herself of Leo Riley, the twins get puppies, the lighthouse needs candles and the pixie king needs help. Throw in a sandpit, a fairy murderer, and a soul snatcher and Jill has quite the full schedule.
I really enjoyed reading this book about Jill’s many adventures. She is very busy dealing with things in her own life as well as solving all kinds of problems for others.
To me to many story lines for crossed and drifted for to long. I did not read through it like I normally do I put it down more often than usual. But it was interesting
These books 📚 are fun to read and I've worn my wiki out looking up the meaning of so many of the words and phrases the English use. It's also obvious why English Cuisine isn't the very popular around the world 🌎. Yuck!!!
Absolutely wonderful characters that interact with each other beautiful! Fabulous plot twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I highly recommend this series.
This book is impossible to put down. The storyline is so compelling that one cannot stop reading. It’s helpful to be retired and have limited need to leave one’s home. On to #23!
While reading this book. I only found 2 errors! So, in this book, it is getting better. Will the improvement continue in the subsequent books, or will it worsen again? I’ll continue to read more and report on every one I read. Stay tuned for further reports.
This book has a serious section that seems like the story segment was never proofread during a climactic section - I re-read 3x to be sure I wasn't just reading too fast. Storyline advances overall in this book!
