Step right up, enjoy the show, and pay no attention to the eyes watching from the darkness.
The carnival is back in town, and for Jack Heldon, that's not a good sign. Since the last time it had come to the small and quiet Lensfield, Connecticut, he’s been plagued with nightmares of burning walls, raspy chuckles, and fiery red eyes in the dark. Ted Barton’s killing spree is still fresh in his mind, and Jack knows the carnival was behind it all.
Now it’s back for more.
But the people of Lensfield are none the wiser. As they are drawn into the lights and music of Ebenezer’s Carnival, evil begins to feed again. Jack and his friends are forced to come face to face with the horrors of their past, and the evil that tore them apart. While trying to break the carnival’s hold, they quickly realize that debts must be paid, and promises cannot be ignored.
Because there’s no escaping the clutches of Ebenezer's Carnival and the screams within.
At the age of four, Ahmed I. Nasser’s parents decided that the best way to keep a hyperactive child occupied was to teach him how to read and constantly bombard him with books. Since then, the world of imagination has constantly consumed him. He quickly decided that the only way to feel fulfilled was to spend his time writing one story after the other, even opting out of a career as a pediatrician, despite ten years of struggling through med-school.
Influenced by Stephen King, Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, he has been writing since the age of 12 while travelling the world with his family. Now, finally settled in Egypt, he divides his time between teaching Middle School English Literature and finding the best ways to scare his family and friends.
What a creepy story. The voice of the narrator made it even creepier. I will never look at a carousel the same way after listening to this story. This was a good story about a carnival that visits a town every 10 years. Nobody seems to notice all the deaths that occur while the carnival is in town. I look forward to hearing the next book in the series.
I have always enjoyed scary carnival books. There are so many creepy characters you can pick to put in your book, or make up a new one , and is this one a winner. I loved this book and can't wait to read the next one! Ebenezer Cage is almost as creepy as Stephen Kings IT. You can't go wrong with this one!
10 years ago the carnival came to town and during that time things happened that were never linked to it but some of the kids remember. Now those kids are adults and the same carnival is back in town. Again, things are happening and Jack and his friends will have to face up to the fact that the carnival isn't what it seems.
I finished this about a month or so ago but forgot to review it!! Yet I still remember nearly everything about it which just goes to show what a great read it was. I've read a few books by this author and am never disappointed in what he writes. This story was extremely atmospheric and gave me chills. It will be hard to look at a carnival in the same light again, especially the merry go round!! The plot was fast paced and kept me hooked till the last page, and reminded me of works by big named horror authors.
All the characters were well written and developed. Some of their stories were heartbreaking, especially the mother!! It really resonated with me and cements the proverb,,,, be careful what you wish for! In all, this was a darkly delicious read and I really hope we get another installment too.
Jake Urry is a fantastic narrator. His voice is what makes him stand out and makes him memorable. He has plenty of tones and voices for all the characters and makes the villain stand out too. Love his narration and highly recommend you check out his work.
I was given this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. This in no way affected nor influenced my thoughts.
I ended up reading this in one sitting. The story had depth and was layered drawing me in to what turned out to be a fantastic story, roll on the next book!
Get ready to have nightmares with this Carnival from HELL!
This is the story that 'Something Wicked This Way Comes' should have been when it was published! The writing and the narration of this story was SO well done and SO SO creepy! THIS is the reason that I do NOT ride those dark ride/haunted house rides at Carnivals!
The town of Lensfield Connecticut are in for another NIGHTMARE and they don't even know it! That is, because Ebenezer's Carnival is back for more slaughtering bloodshed! Yes! Jack Heldon just knows that as soon as he hears that creepy music and smells the smells of the midway......he knows that Ted Barton is going to be right along with this 'Ride of HORROR!'. Get ready to take a ride through one of the creepiest traveling carnivals house of mirrors, as Ebenezer is about to eat! Highly recommended, and now I MUST get into the 2nd book in this 'Carnival' series by A.I. Nasser!
Loved this quick 'under 200 page' read! 5 Screams!
Somewhere in the wilds near Lensfield, Connecticut there is a mysterious carousel that brings up memories of a nightmarish past to Jack Heldon and his friends. Once every decade, the carnival comes to town and opens the door to horrors that are better left unremembered. The carnival has a hold on Jack and his friends that they cannot break, or so they are led to believe. When Jack's girlfriend, Faith, is lured to the carousel, Jack takes action, but at what cost? As is normal with Scare Street offerings, this one is loaded with scares aplenty. The carnival owner, Ebenezer, is the personification of evil. He is one of the nastiest characters I have encountered in some time. I had the Audible version of this book and the narration added an even greater degree of creepiness to the story. This is Book 1 and I really hope there are more offerings in this series. It is very good.
This was an excellent book, well written with few and minor mistakes in the text. The characters were easy to connect with and the relationships they had with the list were appropriate and believable. This book could easily segue into a series, each building on the last. Enjoyable read!!
This is a creepy yet good book. You won't want to put this book down. There are many twists and turns. You have a deadly carnival come to town. The kids remember, now fast forward ten years, the kidd are grown and now the carnival is back. The plot thickens, as the storyline gets creepier. The characters are interesting and very believable. This is a must read. Enjoy!!!
Ohh, this was a good read! Forget not reading in the dark, you will NOT be able to put this one down!
The only thing that I missed was a true closing to the ending, which would have closed the book successfully for me. I felt there were many unanswered questions, but the storyline is fabulous.
