Leanin' N #2

Finding Mr. Wright

Rate this book
Leaning N

Everything’s bigger in Texas, including weddings. And misunderstandings.

Colorado wedding planner Mason O’Reilly lands a major a two-hundred-guest wedding at the Leanin’ N Ranch, where his friends Ford and Stoney are working to provide a safe space for GLBT events. The Wright/Preston ceremony is a destination wedding, and as the grooms are from Texas, everything is done over the phone and email. There’s no way that could lead to trouble, right?

Oops.

Oil tycoon Noah Wright isn’t happy about the impending disaster, but he admires Mason’s quick thinking and grace under pressure. And that’s not all he likes about the out-and-proud wedding planner. Even though Mason’s interested in Noah, his Mr. Right can’t possibly be a rancher from Dallas.

Can he?

Well Mr. Wright...took a wrong turn for me...

I'm not going to spend a lot of time on this one. The story was probably closer to at least a 3 star read for me...maybe even a little better unfortunately this one was totally ruined of me by the audio.

I originally asked for this one because while this is one of the stories in Dreamspinner's 'Dreamspun Desires' series it's also the second book in B. A. Tortuga's 'Leaning N' series and I had listened to the first book on audio and to be honest it didn't go so well but that was due to the narration and this one has a different narrator and the audio sample seemed to have potential so I figured it was worth a try...I figured wrong...ok? Robbie Nelson is a new narrator and truthfully not one that I believe I'll be checking out again anytime soon.

It didn't work out so well for me this time, so I think for now I'm done with this I may read future stories in this series because I like B. A. Tortuga but I think I'm done with the audio experience here...it's just not working.

After the fun and games and all the shenanigans in the previous Leaning N novel, the very memorable ‘Commitment Ranch’, I was really looking forward to another story set on this quirky Colorado ranch with all its wonderful characters. As it turns out, not only did I get to see Ford, Stoney, and their crew again, but BA Tortuga also treated me to two new main guys and assorted secondary characters - people who are every bit as eccentric and unforgettable as the ones from the first book. Wedding planner Mason and billionaire Noah are more complicated than they seem at first sight, their relationship is obstacle-ridden, but they are so right for each other I kept rooting for them no matter what.

Book #2 in the Leanin'N Ranch tales, and this one is just as fun as the first one. Now we know the basic characters, and have the addition of new folks.
Noah, a super rich Texas oil baron, is putting on his sister's wedding. Mason, based in Aspen, is the wedding planner who has the task of making it perfect, only in all of the correspondence, it's for Sammie and Doug, plus the ranch is a gay-friendly venue, so what happens when they find out Sammie- is Noah's sister, Samantha ! ?
It's funny, exciting, and a bit messy, but all is taken care of, and the wedding is a smash hit.

Mason and Noah are attracted, and they keep it going long distance. We get back stories, hot sexiness, and deep introspection. The change, Noah realizes, will change lives.
It's a hard fought decision, but sooo worth it. We see cute pets, awesome food and parties, and the heartwarming events.
I really liked our new couple, and how they made their plan work.
ENJOY !

`What do you get when you mix the enemies-to-lovers trope with a pinch of doing-the-bossman and an almost FUBAR wedding plan?

Finding Mr. Wright, is what.

Mason is a wedding planner in Colorado. His most recent contract calls for a 200-person wedding and reception at the Leaning N Ranch where Ford and Stoney (from the first book) have been busy creating a fabulous destination for weddings and other such things, all LGBTQ friendly. Yurts included. I had to google what a yurt is, but now I know.

Anyway, a few days before the wedding, Noah Wright, whose office has so far communicated with Mason by phone/email about this huge wedding, comes up to the Leaning N from Dallas, where he's got a gazillionaire oil business, to make sure everything is as planned but finds out that someone somewhere FUBAR'd - Sam isn't one of two grooms, as Mason assumed, but the bride, and as her brother, paying for the shindig, he ain't none too pleased. Matter of fact, Noah acts much like an entitled jerk at first, but the author did a fine job making him a lot more likable as the book progressed.

But Mason is of course a professional, no matter how much he wants to climb Mr. Tall, Dark, and Handsome at first sight even if he's a bit snotty and snarky, and quickly rearranges things to be fit for a princess.

Noah is impressed. Intrigued. And definitely in lust.

I quite liked this. This author has an uncanny knack for writing fun characters, and I enjoyed my time reading this book. Of course it's super tropey - this is a Dreamspun Desires title after all - but when you take away all the OTT and super rich stuff, you're still left with two men who fall hard and fast (with sexy times too), and decide that nothing shall stand in their way to their HEA. Well, Mason might not be so convinced at first, but Noah is - and what Noah wants, Noah gets. They figure it out, y'all, as they should.

It was lovely to revisit with Ford, Stoney, and all the folks on Leaning N - they played a big part in Mason pulling off the wedding after the big oops, and I hope we'll get to see more of them in a future book. Sam, the bride, and her groom were a fun couple too, even if Sam came across as a wee bit on the spoiled side, used to getting her way. Seriously, a climbing wall?

There were a few moments toward the end where Mason has some doubts, understandably so, based on what he's being told. I mean, I knew that they would get their HEA, but for a short while there, I was a little worried that things might not work out as planned. Mason actually shows some backbone throughout, and refuses to let Noah walk all over him. Good for him, that.

It's a feel-good read, which is what I expect from one of these titles. This was an excellent addition to this series, and while it can be read as a standalone, why would you want to? Read 'em both, I say. They're worth it.

What started as a rough business arrangement between the brother of the bride and the wedding planner turns into a beautiful romance. This was an easy read and a sweet addition to the Leaning N Series as well as the Dreamspun Desires line.

I loved that this starts off with the POV of Ford taking a phone call from Mason about a massive and expensive wedding to be held at the Leaning N. It was great to see how much Ford and Stoney have turned the ranch into a LGBT friendly event destination and how everyone at the ranch is doing.

This wedding, it’s a big deal for the ranch and it’s a massive opportunity for Mason’s business, Rustic Romance and the stress shows. When Mason gets to the ranch to arrange the final details for the groom and groom, he has a meeting with Noah Wright, the man footing the bill who lets the wrong or rather right pronoun slip and sets Mason in a tizzy. You see, no one decided to give a certain detail about Sammy in the Doug and Sammy wedding that Sammy Wright, is a girl. Ugh. Yeah. One heck of a mess up and while the bride's brother and bank for the wedding isn’t happy that this happened, Mason sets out to make everything perfect for the happy couple.

Told in the dual POV’s of our MC’s we get to see how each man handles the gender mix up and how both of them truly want the best for Sammy on her big day. Noah will do anything for his baby sister down to last minute additions to her wedding that allow him to offer himself as a driver with Mason to pick up the items out of town. This little trip also allows the men a bit of time to get to know one another.

Now, I read Commitment Ranch directly before reading this as a few reviews mentioned Mason was in the book and I wanted to meet him there first. But I never met Mason in book one, only Andy who was Ford’s friend who organized the open house at Christmas for the Leaning N. I don’t know if my copy was different or Andy is now Mason? I am not sure but at first it bugged me and then once I got to know Mason, I took him for a brand new character who worked well with the men on the Leaning N and moved on.

So, anyway. At first meeting, Mason and Noah have an attraction though it’s pure frustration as well but when the wedding is officially over, when Noah is no longer a client and they can’t blame the whiskey kisses on anything but themselves, they get intimate.

The flame between them just burned hot. It made sense, he supposed, because no amount of skyping and mutual masturbation would replace this. This was real. Not just the sex, but the being together, reinforcing all the things they knew about each other.

I will say intimate about their relationship because while yes, it’s sexual we get more intimacy with these two as most of their time is not spent together. How can it be when they both have businesses in different states where they are needed? But regardless of distance, the men want to be in each other’s lives and are willing to make it work. That doesn’t mean it will be easy.

Mason is a true romantic and it was nice to see Noah romancing the pants off of him, literally. These two fall fast for one another but distance is a bitch and when Mason comes home to Texas, Noah’s family turns into monsters. Well, maybe just Noah’s Momma but Noah kind changes when they go back too and that changed the book happiness for me. I didn’t like who Noah was back home and I didn’t like how Mason just rolled over and took it. I thought Noah needed way more groveling for Mason to be okay and Noah’s family went from “You can be gay somewhere else just not here” to totally accepting him being with Mason and they “Just want him happy?” We want families to be like that but I don’t downshift that fast to accept his family's acceptance or his with their sudden flip of personality.

The end was tied up nice, quick and satisfactorily with a bit Ford and Stoney again. So I am good with that.

But good lord, if the author is planning on keeping this a series I think Geoff needs a fucking epic romance with someone feeding him vegan desserts under a canopy of lights with a soft summer breeze. Please give that man a man to love and one who thinks Geoff hangs the moon. Thanks.

Book & Author: Finding Mr. Wright by B.A. Tortuga
Rating: 3 stars

As a reader, I love B.A.’s writing and her stories usually catch me and suck me into loving every character. Unfortunately, I feel like her Dreamspun series books don’t hold the same candle as her non Dreamspun books.

For me, there was too much telling and not enough showing when it came to the development of the relationship between Mason and Noah. We saw them together, and yes they had chemistry, but when at 60% one was thinking they loved the other I had no idea why/ I couldn’t feel it or hadn’t seen it. Since the two spent so much time apart just texting more of those conversations should’ve been shown to the reader and not just told. It was those places, those times that apparently (I assume) these two fell for each other.

There were many inconsistencies as well. Noah’s sister was this nice-ish spoiled brat of a woman getting married at her brother's expense (ok he’s a billionaire but damn with the greedy) who on top of getting everything she wanted for her wedding she asked for more and off Mason and Noah to get it. She had times where she was so needy for her brother’s attention she took him away from Mason even once arguing with him that he shouldn’t be “canoodling” since he’s paying him for the event. Then all of a sudden she’s telling him not to let Mason go and blah blah blah. It felt so out of character for her to suddenly be responsible and giving that it threw me. Then the fact that his mom was a total douche canoe to Mason and Noah did nothing, said nothing to her. He said he should. He thought about it. But in the end, he said nothing. So for me, it felt inconsistent with who he was and unresolved.

I loved the two guys, and I think the story had great potential, but there were too many things that took me out of the story and irritated me for me to move past them. I’m not giving up on this writer because she has written some wonderful stories that I absolutely love such as Best New Artist.

~~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads ~~

This is the second book in the series, and although you would understand more of the background of the ranch, it is not essential to enjoy this story.

There is a great undercurrent of humour in this book. Mostly of the play on words and cheeky variety and it works really well. In some of the potentially most difficult situations, a bit of levity, without mocking is very effective. There is also a welcome absence of trauma. Sure there are some mistakes made and perceived by both Noah and Mason, but they know how they feel about each other, just not how it can play out. The fact that Noah holds the answers, as he is the one who has the finances to achieve it, is not used in a power sense, but rather in a sense of giving of himself to the person who means everything to him.

I love the times when we are at the ranch and seeing how this group of people with different loves and dreams work so well together - I am looking forward to seeing who falls next under the spell of the Leaning N.

This was another great visit to the Leanin' N Ranch. This time, event planner Mason O'Reilly has a rather harsh first meeting with his client Noah Wright, a billionaire oil tycoon from Texas, who is at the ranch to oversee his overseas sister's wedding plans. Although there is a mix-up in communications, Mason quickly and competently handles the issue. From there, Noah realizes he may have over-reacted and Mason is on high alert to handle the impending wedding. Once the dust settles, they find a strong attraction to each other. Can a relationship work when they are two extremely busy men who live in different states? This book is low-angst and feel-good with family, friends, sexy times, and a very determined love.

It was ok, but I think the plot got convoluted towards the end. The beginning is quite straight-forward. Mason is a wedding planner who finds out almost too late that the wedding he had planned for two grooms was actually for a groom and bride. Noah is the bride's older brother who wants everything to go smoothly, but finds himself saddled with an unusual situation as well as a really hot wedding planner.

I was given a copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.

In the second book in this series, we’re back at the Leanin’ N ranch for a fun, glamorous and drama soaked society wedding.

Event planner Mason’s brief is for a “rustic, fun, high-class redneck wedding” and I thoroughly enjoyed the efforts of everyone at the Leanin’ N as they worked relentlessly to throw Sammy Wright an unforgettable wedding. Geoff’s food steals the show once again but Stoney, Ford and their team are at their best when catering for demanding redneck Texan billionaires.

I didn’t engage quite as much with the romance in this second novel. Noah and Mason are both likeable characters but they aren’t quite as fully developed as Stoney and Ford were and their relationship is a simpler one.

As with all of the Dreamspun Desires books, this is a pretty low heat read. I was a little bit dismayed by the slightly predictable ‘billionaire’ romance tropes but the humour and sense of community at the Leanin’ N keep this fresh and prevent it from becoming too formulaic.

I felt that the first half of the book - set at the ranch - was stronger than the second half of the story after the wedding. Without the wedding planning providing structure and a reason for Noah and Mason to be together, the rest of the book wanders a bit. But ultimately, this is a feel-good, sweetly romantic guilty pleasure and I really love everyone at the Leanin’ N.

B.A. Tortuga is one of my go-to authors for a good dose of Texas, cowboys or rodeo. In this story we get a little Texas, a little cowboy, and all delivered in her signature style of dialogue and narrative. Mason is a wedding planner, setting up a big wedding at the Leaning N Ranch in Colorado, for a gay couple. Noah Wright, wealthy Texas oil tycoon, flies in to check that all is going to plan, and he isn't impressed by the problem he finds. But Mason soon wins him over with his quick thinking and hard work. They spend a few days learning about each other and by the end of the wedding week, they decide to try a long distance relationship.

The wedding activities and descriptions were pretty fun and it's the first time I've ever heard of a donut wall. At around midpoint in the book, after the wedding is over, it follows their progress, or lack thereof, as a couple but it fell flat for me at this point. I couldn't see them as much of a couple at all. I get the long distance thing but neither were shown making a whole lot of effort to be together. Mason did, more so than Noah, but there was too much telling about what they did while apart and not enough showing them spending time together. In one instance when they were together at Noah’s home, there was an episode that I thought would create some conflict or tension to spice things up, but that mostly fizzled out.

The characterization was strong enough, yet both Noah and Mason were rather bland. There just wasn't enough emotion or substance in the relationship building to make a strong impression on me. I can recommend it as a slightly humorous, light-hearted, escapist story with a strong western theme. It also ties in characters from book one and I'm sure other secondary characters will appear in planned sequels. If the Dreamspun Desires stories are among your favorites, you should enjoy this one.

When Mason lands a huge wedding contract, he’s excited to finally take his business to the next step. All he has to do is make sure the wedding goes off without a hitch! Unfortunately, while preparation go well, when the wedding party start arriving, Mason realizes they messed up one gigantic detail and it’ll take all his efforts and skills to clean up the mess. So when Noah Wright shows up early to make sure everything’s well in hands, he and Mason get off to a rough start. But when Mason shows he can handle a little set back, Noah is impressed and before long, their attraction turns into something more. But Noah lives in Texas and Mason lives in Colorado and long distance relationships are tough as it is before you start bringing in financial aspects. Will they be able to work through being miles and miles apart?

When I saw there would be a sequel to Commitment Ranch, I was so stoked! I couldn’t wait to read it because I absolutely adored Ford and Stoney! I couldn’t wait to get my little hands on this one and to say I’m not disappointed is an understatement. I ADORED this book. I love that B.A. is able to put so much fire into these Dreamspun books without making it so smutty. Plus, I loved the rather large bomb that was dropped about the wedding. I mean, HELLO. I would have been freaking out and probably quit if something like that happened!

As for the characters, I loved Mason. I loved that he had so much spirit in him but was also a bit sassy. He got along great with everyone and I really liked how he was able to plan everything and work through problems so easily. As for Noah, I didn’t much like him in the beginning. I didn’t really feel as if we were really getting to know him because he was so cagey in the beginning to the point of being a douche bag. I found myself taking a really long time to warm up to him but by the end, I loved how much he went through to keep the relationship going for them.

Overall, I really enjoyed this one. It’s a total feel-good story with a good amount of laughs to it. I loved the characters, the setting and the premise of the story. I hope this isn’t the last we see of the Leaning N because there is so much more potential in this series! Definitely give it a go if you’re looking for a sweet story with just a touch of angst to it.

This can be read as a standalone; I have not read Commitment Ranch (Leaning N, #1) and I don’t feel I was missing anything. I inferred enough from the background info that book one established the setting for Leaning N Ranch and the two secondary characters in this story, Ford and Stoney who run Leaning N. I could further assume (because this isn’t

The premise of Finding Mr. Wright is Mason is an Event Planner out of Colorado, and he’s been offered the opportunity to organize a wedding for 200+ people from Texas. Leaning N caters to the GLBT community, and Mason infers this is a gay wedding. Until he realizes it’s not.

Noah is the brother of the bride, liaison between the Texas contingent and the Colorado setting. When he finds out the Event Organzizer – Mason - had planned a wedding for two men instead of his sister, he’s furious and has no qualms about letting Mason know it.

This isn’t quite a Cinderella story and this isn’t a rags to riches tale despite the economic disparity between the two men – for which I was rather grateful. I confess, I am becoming a bit disillusioned with the number of stories by Dreamspinner that play off this theme. Mason, trying to start a fledging business, is standing on his own two feet. Noah, despite being a rather young oil tycoon, isn’t throwing his money around to get Mason.

There’s a lot of emphasis on the wedding in this which I felt detracted from Mason and Noah. Noah started off as a prick, but I liked how the author brought him around to a more personable character. Mason’s assistant ran off with someone from the wedding party to Maui, which caused some tempers to flare. There was a Misunderstanding that was started by Noah’s Mother. So a rather wide variety of obstacles and emotions the characters had to navigate.

I enjoyed this for enjoyments sake. It’s just that kind of read.

Overall, a sweet, feel-good, down-home romance about two guys with more in common than they thought.

This is a sweet love story of the one that plans the weddings finally getting to be the one that finds his Mr Wright.

Mason is about to plan the biggest event that he has ever been in charge of. It is a wedding for 250 guests. Mason has everything set for the two grooms big day. Or so he thinks. Every detail is ironed out and everything is set when the grooms brother shows up to make sure the big day will be perfect for Sammy and Doug.

There is one huge problem that Noah found with the wedding though. And it is something that can make the whole day go horribly. Noah realizes there has been a huge misunderstanding and that Mason has planned a wedding for two men, not his baby sister Sammy and her groom Doug. To say that Mason is now stressed beyond what he thought he could capably be, that is putting it mildly.

Mason has gone into wedding planning overload trying to correct the mistake that has happened before the bride and groom arrive and figure out the mistake that has been made. And the fact that Noah is putting on the extra pressure is not helping in the least.

By some miracle Mason is able to pull it off and correct everything in time for the bride and groom to arrive and no one but those involved know what a huge mistake could have happened. Somewhere along the way Mason has also started to look at the grumpy Noah in different light.

Not only has Mason started to notice Noah but Noah has started to notice Mason also. Once the wedding is over Noah is planning to make his move and see where the chips may fall with Mason.

Can two men that come from two completely different backgrounds find a common ground with one another and more importantly maybe find their MR Wright along the way also.

This was a really sweet read about to people finding one another and then going to whatever lengths necessary to find their happily ever after also. I really enjoyed this book. It was a great read. B.A. Tortuga did an incredible job on this sweet romance.

AUDIO REVIEW
"Fun but a bit flat for me"
Overall
Performance
Story
I'm going to start by saying B.A. Tortuga is one of my on click authors.I love her writing style and characters. This book fell a bit flat for me. I will admit I wish I had read the book instead of listening to the audio. The narration pulled me out of the story so much. Robbie Nelson did try to give each character a voice. That is something I normally like. I think e took it to too much extreme and had a female voice and two male voices and gave hem to each character so I had to figure out who was talking losing part of what was going on. and he threw me off with the thoughts as well.

I loved the first book in this series and was looking forward to more. I was happy to get more Stoney and Ford though I wish we had actually more of them. I have to admit my favorite character was Geoff. He is hilarious and I just want more and more of him.

Mason a hard-working wedding planner and Noah a Billionaire Oil Tycoon are the main characters. I liked them.
The first part of the book was great, I loved the wedding planning, all the things that went wrong and Mason ad to fix, and the humor in it.
The last of the story went slow with Mason and Noah being so far apart.
All in all, I think the story was good and I would have liked it much more if I read the book instead of the audio.

If you like working men and Billionaires, ranchers, weddings, and a very sweet romance story you will like this

From that review: " Finding Mr. Wright, the second story in the Leaning N series by BA Tortuga, involves wedding planner Mason O’Reilly, a secondary character from Commitment Ranch.   I had wanted Mason to get his HEA and here he does.  Though it takes a while.

All the wonderful characters from the original story are here, Stoney, Ford, their kid and the various ranch hands including their chef (who needs his own story).  They form a wonderful foundation along with the Leaning N ranch for  Mason and Noah Wright to meet, clash and learn to love.  Of course, there are Texans, lots of mad Texans, transplanted to Colorado with a side trip south for good measure."

If you love the light hearted, low-angst, humor filled romance that BA Tortuga writes and the trope-tastic Dreamspun series – you’re gonna be psyched! We’ve got BA’s characteristic western themed setting, full of “honeys” and “mans” and very little angst. If you’ve been following the series, we get to see Ford and Stoney and Jeff and all the others on the ranch as well.

The trope in this case is sort of cinderfella where Noah is the Billionaire and Mason is the working class man who’s afraid he won’t measure up.

While I didn’t love this, I think it’s a matter of timing. I find there are times when BA’s writing style really appeals and other times less so. I did appreciate the low angst and the humor and I think fans of the author will definitely want to read this! I was frustrated that Mason couldn’t see past his own prejudices for so long and Noah had to do all the work to make the relationship work… but in the end we get a lovely HEA!

Mason O'Reilly was thrilled to get his latest contract to plan a wedding at his friends' LGBTQ-friendly venue. The scale and scope of the event signals a high-end client, and he is committed to getting everything right. But when the client, Noah Wright, arrives and is disappointed that his sister's wedding to her lovely groom as been planned for two grooms, everything looks like it's about to spin out of control. Noah's used to things going his way, and he is not very forgiving when mistakes are made. I liked the flow of this book a lot better than the first one. I guess I just don't care all that much about all the cowboy-ranch stuff.
I really enjoyed the interactions between the MCs and the book was nicely low-drama and low angst. I loved the mutual relationship work both where putting into it, that was nice to see.
That said, I was a bit flattened by how fast they went from dislike to physical attraction to love. The book focuses on the before and the after they are in love, but the process of falling in love is just so fast that I must have blinked and missed it.

But I liked all the interactions and side characters. It's all very entertaining, though I still find some of the dialog repetitive and a little annoying and I was not a fan of all the wedding details in the first third of the book. That just bored me.

DNF at about 70%... just got so bored with endless descriptions of food and wedding / event preparations and the lack of any real story or relationship development. Mason and Noah were lovely and fell in love pretty much instantly, so the rest was just food and event planning and much (I assumed) off-page sex. The plot just meandered all over the place with a cast of endless secondary characters taking up far more time than the main couple, and I simply lost interest. A shame because I quite enjoyed the first book.

Let’s fall in love

This series is about people meeting and falling in love at the Leanin N ranch run by Ford and Stoney. I love the ranch setting and I think it is a cute concept. Book one was about how the ranch came about. This book featured Mason and Noah aka Mr. Wright. It was interesting to see how the wedding party was brought to life and all the preparations that went with it. I look forward to reading the next couple’s love story.

BA doesn't let you down.

This is a story a out a wedding planner and an oil billionaire. Noah is planning his sister's wedding and is butting heads with the wedding planner. Mason has his hands full not only with trying to do the most perfect rustic wedding, but with the man that's paying for it all, Noah, the bride's brother. There are some snapfus but Between Mason and Noah things work out; even more so.

We are back at the ranch. Mason is busy planning the biggest wedding ever. Noah is the the brother of the bride and the fact alone leads to some fun. This story is full of love but also full of humor. Both men are smart, organized, driven business man. But when things are important then you have to learn how to use all your skills to make things work.

Well, so boring! First 3/4 of the story is about a wedding organization from a very patient wedding planner and a very rude and arrogant client who is supposed to fall in love with him. I had lot of issues on this book and got to the end struggling the temptation to drop it at every chapter. So no. Big no.

Dnf - paused - narrator trying so hard it’s coming across as parody. For whatever reason he gives EVERY character a distinct accent which is so unnecessary and confusing - one guy sounds like a surfer bro which is out of place in TX. Some of these voices are how I would attempt to do a voice (aka not well and very cringeworthy).
