Gospel of Mark - Alabaster Bible

Rate this book
The Bible Beautiful. Visual imagery & thoughtful design integrated within the Gospel of Mark.  Goodness and truth are two values often used to describe the character of God. In addition, Christian theologians have long described beauty as a third inseparable reality which together with goodness and truth, paint a full picture of who God is.  Alabaster aims to give the reader a fresh visual experience and heightened level of contemplation while reading this ancient text, that ultimately points to the beauty of God.

Listening to the Gospel of Mark has been a very unique experience (I actually have to say that listening to the Bible in general is a whole new experience). I feel like I can quickly get through text, and the verses tie together much better and remain at the forefront of my mind as I am listening and tying things in together.

The overarching themes in Mark is Jesus healing many people, Jesus setting people free who are demon possessed/have unclean spirits, feeding large crowds, and giving awesome, snarky answers to religious people (and breaking the Sabbath!).

Some really impactful verses this time around:
-When Jesus was sharing what the greatest commandments were, of course we know it is to Love the Lord with all your strength, BUT, I had never noticed that Jesus begins with the VERY BEGINNING of the Shema. Jesus leaves unsaid, but I think implied, such a beautiful and impactful part of the Shema:
Recite them to your children and talk about them when you are at home and when you are away, when you lie down and when you rise. Bind them as a sign on your hand, fix them as an emblem on your forehead, and write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

-Jesus said the Sabbath is made for man... The man isn't made for the Sabbath. He also condemed the people condeming his disciples for not fasting. This gives a release from rules for rules. Rules are made for a reason, but get to the HEART of the issue. Don't just follow them without your heart being in them.
-The Last Days... select people (the Elect) will not see death. They will see Jesus coming on the clouds!
Jesus makes clear reference to hell. There is fire and worms.

The last third of Mark specically focuses on and includes a lot of events that happen the last week of Jesus' life. It is interesting to ponder that. Jesus overturned the tables in the temple, but I did not realize that it was the week of his death. Perhaps he had his own sacrifice at the forefront of his mind, and how absolutely enraging it would have been that people were profiting.

Mark concludes with the account of the crucifixion. I did not listen to this part, just read it like normal, and maybe that is why I do not have any fresh perspective.

Beautiful Bible, easy to read. 16:9-20 are not included though this is likely intentional as these lines were added in later, less reliable manuscripts.

The year is not yet over. Alabaster is here with some literal Good News. They are releasing a new edition of their Gospel on Mark - and it is giving me the strength to persevere.

Passionate and Exciting

Alabaster has enhanced their iconic aesthetic. This second edition features a new distinct cover, color story, and includes a wider range of global artists. The brown and red desert landscape sets the tone for the rest of the book, and the photos throughout make for a passionate and exciting reading experience.

Described as a perfect paperback, this book is softcover, 120 pages, perfect bound, and printed in full color on uncoated paper in Canada. The dimensions are 7.5 in x 9.5 in. It uses the NLT translation, which is excellent for this type of reading experience.

His Words will Not Pass Away

The brown and red earth tones made me think hard about the trials and tribulations we face in this life. But Jesus knows them all. He walked on this earth and walked through darkness, tasted death, and triumphantly resurrected.

Reading this new edition of Mark is the perfect way to remember that we have a Savior who has experienced suffering. And he is strong. Heaven and earth will pass away, but his words will not pass away.

There is beauty in art just like there is beauty in the Bible. I love how Alabaster manages to combine both beauties in the most important book in existence. Mark definitely has some of my favorites images out of the other books. Alabaster is able to captivate its readers by its use of vivid imagery which encourages the reader to reflect on the Word in a whole new way.

The book of Mark has strengthened me through temptations in my life. As I read about the temptation of Jesus, I am reminded of similar times I battle with temptations in different circumstances. Alabaster has taken the Bible out of the bookshelf and has made it the main centerpiece of my living room where it belongs!

The book of Mark is a great addition to my ever-growing collection by Alabaster Co. I just love how Mark reveals Jesus Christ as God’s Servant. Jesus’s work was always for a larger purpose, a point clearly summarized in Mark 10:45, “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.” Mark filled his gospel with the miracles of Jesus, illustrating again and again both the power and the compassion of the Son of God. The amazing imagery of the photography truly captures the essence of the very word written in this book.

I received a complimentary copy of this book through Alabaster’s influencer Program. Personally this book has allowed me to dive in deeper in God’s Word, enhancing my daily readings and devotional time. Thanks again for such a wonderful addition to my library of the beautiful Alabaster Co. Bible Collection!

Mark was the first book from Alabaster that I ever owned, so I was so excited when I saw that they were re-vamping the gospels set. This new version of the book of Mark is so stunning, with rich, bold colors and photos. I love using the gospel Alabaster books as a discipleship tool when I meet with other women. I'm so excited to use these new versions!

As part of the influencer program I look forward to reviewing and receiving each book. Mark of first glance is dramatic in its imagery and colour. It creates interest and intrigues me to receive the hard copy and take in every word and picture. Meditating on the richness of Gods word. Another stunning book.
