Bronson Sinclair is an award winning documentary filmmaker. When he learns of some young women who vanished after joining a religious cult, he cannot resist the story. He and his team head to the west Texas back country where they meet The Prophet Drake and his followers. On the surface everything at the compound looks like heaven on earth as they are given VIP treatment. Bronson and his crew soon learn, behind the smiles and hospitality lies something more evil than they could have possibly imagined. The team uncovers a trail of human sacrifice, ritual abuse and a whole new definition of human suffering.
A filmmaker (Bronson Sinclair) and his crew are invited to the 'Church of Fertile Fields' to make a documentary of its followers. The reason for them wanting to be there is: the families of three missing young women believe they have something to do with their disappearance. When Bronson and his crew first arrive; they are welcomed into the small community - and everything seems normal (except for Eli). They are fed, given a cabin to sleep in and are promised an interview with Pastor Drake, who claims he has no knowledge of the missing women.
They soon realise something isn't right; when they sneak out of their cabins at night and witness a sex ritual in progress.
What has really piqued their interest though, is the barn that's securely locked up. And when Manuel's (cameraman) curiosity gets the better of him - their hospitable hosts soon show their true colours. And it's not good.
This book is insane. The pain and suffering the film crew had to endure was sickening; beyond belief. Still, it was an enjoyable book to read (sort of), though I'm not sure what to make of the ending. It wasn't what I would have expected.
Okay, I have to say this one was kinda hard to read. With children and other's being hurt in unimaginable ways, but I forced through it, had to know how it ended. Once again, Tim Miller provoked the chills and knotted stomach, he's known for. If you're a fan of Tim's, like I am, you know you're going into on horror ridden book, and he succeeded. Lol. I'm curious about Julia's outcome, what happen to her. Tim, I got to know, guy.
This story blew me away! Nightmares about what I read in FF still haunt me. Crazy, brutal, sick, disturbing but oh so creepy good. Excellent characters with an insane plot equals tons of twists, violence, weirdness galore & more. Must read for fans of modern horror!
From the blurb, Fertile Fields has the potential to be a great horror story, but unfortunately it's downhill from there. It's not particularly well written, with questionable grammar and some poor spelling - one I remember is torture being misspelled as torcher. Oh dear. After early promise, the story ends up being pretty weak, with at least one glaring plot hole. Miller seems to think that throwing liberal amounts of sex and gore at the reader will plaster over everything else, but it didn't work for me. Two stars instead of one as it's a quick read and I've read worse, but where all those high ratings come from is beyond me.
I spent most of my time while reading Fertile Fields with my hand over my mouth that was open in horror!! If you're looking for a nice feel good story, you are going to be scarred for life!! This book has every spine chilling sick thing you can think of, except animal sacrifice. If you like crazy, sick, mind bending horror then this is the book for you!! I love Tim Miller's books, they all shock me and the lengths of his imagination knows no bounds!! I am amazed at the hell he puts the people in his books through!! Kind of makes me feel better about my own life!! So go ahead and read at your own risk, especially if you've read other Tim Miller books, you will not be disappointed!!!
This has become my favorite Tim Miller book to date!! It is filled with sex, blood, gore, cults, violence, and so much more!! This book to me is the perfect extreme horror storm ;-)
Tim Miller takes us on one hell of a ride with Bronson and his film crew while they try to solve the mystery of some missing girls. This was so such a thrill ride for me!! Once I started this book, I could not put it down until I was completely finished!!
Tim Miller has become my favorite extreme horror author and this book just proves why. His stories read like a movie...They are so vivid and it is easy to get lost in his world for a few hours at a time :-) I am so excited to see what Tim comes up with next!!!
From the outset of this book I was intrigued with the idea of reading about a cult. I am familiar with Tim Miller's work and how well he writes the extremely horrific. I was certainly not to be disappointed by Fertile Fields. Miller really pushed the boundaries of depravity within these pages. It made for an incredibly dark story that was difficult to put down. The events that were happening within the barn ranked up there with some of the most horrific things I have ever read! It was truly bone-chilling. Each death was so graphically written that I will find it hard to ever unsee those things. The ending was not what I was expecting, and yet perfect.
I thought the overall plot was very unbelievable. It had more holes than a slice of Swiss cheese. Overall it was a very amateurish piece of writing. There were a couple of scenes that were somewhat engaging, but it seemed the author was more concerned with getting a visceral reaction from his readers by way of some extremely nauseating torture scenes, than putting together a tight story with interesting three-dimensional characters. A disappointment.
I really don't know what to say but well done!!! Very few books can make me cringe but again Tim Miller has done so!!! I definitely want to say not for the faint of heart!!! I recommend for all fans of modern horror!!
I loved it .....nice and gory... my complaint, if you'd call it that, was using Freya....I'm a devout Odinist and I hope people wont think this is a true representation of what we believe in and practice but good job on the shock value made even my jaw drop a bit haha
