Abby Kane is pretty bad ass and seeing her back in her old stomping grounds and learning so many secrets about her deceased husband and her mother-in-law was fascinating. Poor Abby! I wonder if she will ever find out the truth about her husband’s murder. As an aside, his first wife’s parents were awful!!

Excellent continuation of the series. I loved getting more of the back story for Abby, Peng and especially for PoPo. I couldn't put this one down!

Abby Kane is Back ! Author Ty Hutchison is at his very best when spinning a crafty mystery thriller with Abby Kane as his protagonist. "Kowloon Bay", is a very fast paced thriller that's a very enjoyable read. Abby, based in San Francisco with the FBI is a top investigator who's tenacious, and tough as nails. However one day "Father Earth" gives Frisco a 4.6 size earthquake. Luckily Abby along with her two kids, and mother in law are unhurt. Only slight damage to her house, and her office down at the FBI. Abby takes this as a sign it's time for a vacation. She's got a hankering to visit Hong Kong, and her friends from the HKPD. Meanwhile in Hong Kong, a building that is being torn down for new construction uncovers a skeleton. Sometime about 15 years ago this victim was decapitated, and planted into one of the walls of the building as it was being built. Top HKPD Detective Leslie Choi gets the case. Leslie is also Abby's best friend, and the two have been close friends for many years. Abby even trained Leslie while she was coming up through the ranks of the HKPD. Before long the two best friends meet up and Abby wants to work her way into Leslie's case. When surprising details emerge from building and about Abby's dead husband are uncovered, Abby is into the case up to her neck. Abby ends up finding out secrets about her dead husband and Popo, her mother in law. Seemingly with each twist Abby's life is spun around leaving her very much confused. Leslie feels like she's in the middle of tearing up Abby's family and her memories of the past. Easily from the first page of this book I was hooked. Author Ty Hutchinson's Abby Kane character is strong, clever, and relentless. ( Hint: Ty- Need many more Abby books !) When I read the Abby Kane books I'm picturing a real life "Abby" would look very much like actress Maggie Q.. Abby with an Irish father and Asian mother is a very unique protagonist. The other characters in the book are built very well, and add dimension to the plot. With some pretty interesting twists and turns in the story, "Kowloon Bay" was a very enjoyable read. I'd highly recommend getting into the Abby Kane series from author Ty Hutchinson. I'm giving, "Kowloon Bay" four stars out of a possible five stars. I didn't go to five starts because I thought the ending was kind of a cop out. It was like reading 99% of a book you're into, and at the end, it's a huh ? Really ? But, check it out. This series is a do not miss !

Another fantastic read for me, it has taken me a while to get to the end but once so far into the book I just had to keep reading to find out what happened next and why. There were so many plot twists within this book that I just wasn't at all expecting, my jaw dropped.
However, what was nice was getting to learn more about Po Po and her life when she lived in Hong Kong. It is a book that flicks backwards and forwards between POV's but for me, it was easy to follow along with so it wasn't too much of an issue.
In this book, Abby is on holiday in Hong Kong with her two children, Ryan and Lucy, and her mother-in-law Po Po. While there, they begin working on the "Missing Mummy" case which turns out to be two bodies hidden within the walls of a property, however, finding out their identities was not going to be easy as things got in the way and halted progress. Abby is such a tough character and it was great getting to see how her personality and her character developed throughout the last 6 books. She takes no shit and I love that about her, I thrive to be like that!
We also learn that Po Po is actually quite reserved and doesn't talk about her life, but rather keeps it quiet - only speaking about it because she was interrogated as it was believed she knew more about the bodies than she actually did.
We do meet some new characters in this book also, which is great, however, they may at first seem to be nice characters but once we really get to know them, everything isn't at it first seemed.
Hutchinson has such a way with words that I have been hooked when reading these books. I would like to read more in the future!

This is a different type of mystery for me. It's set in Hong Kong and Abby Kane is the former Inspector of the Hong Kong Police Department in the Organized Crime and Triad Bureau. She moved back to San Francisco with her son and daughter and mother-in-law after her husband died. After her return she became an agent in the FBI.
An earthquake struck San Francisco and caused some minor damage to Abby's house, so while the repairs were being made the family made a return trip to Hong Kong for a vacation.
It hardly was a vacation though. Her good friend Leslie Choi, who took over Abby's position at the HKP soon became involved when a body was found in a building being razed for new construction.
There was a trail leading back to Abby's husband and that's where the mystery began and the vacation more or less ended.
Though not officially involved in the investigation, because of personal interest Abby helps Leslie with tracking down the root cause for the mysterious body.
Abby's mother-in-law is kidnapped, Abby discovers that her husbands parents are not dead and it is revealed that one of the Triads is involved.
Both Leslie and Abby jump into action to sort out all of these mysteries and more.
Though not a very exciting story it was interesting and the plot was different because it dealt with the criminology of Hong Kong which is quite different than FBI work in the U.S.

Kowloon Bay; The back stories abound in this wonderful book; the mystery of the Death on Peng is still unsolved! I am intrigued by that undying friendship between PO PO and her longtime friend. The backdrop and description of Hong Kong is very visual to me, it is on my list of places to visit as is “MY COW”, Macau. Leslie and the HKP are in a real dilemma in solving this case. The Triad has a hand in this and yet no body no case
In life not all mysteries are solved and in this case this Crime will not be solved! Without the rest of the bones we will not know to whom body #2 was, I do surmise that the other body is Tony.
This is really the story of LOVE upside down; the rich family wants to have nothing to do after their daughter becomes pregnant with someone from another class! Po Po, we find out has 2 not just 1 son and the Father/Grandfather is revealed. Peng not only has a brother; he is the no-good brother causing Family issues! All new information on family secrets!
AS usual this book got faster for me, can not put it down. Lumpini Park is next!
You will enjoy this; it is fast and turns up and down!

More to story about extended family for Agent Abby Kane.

While visiting Hong Kong, Abby is surprised to learn that her husband had a brother. It wasn't until they found a skeleton in the wall of a building that her husband, Peng, had built that this was revealed to Abby. Just as she was coming to terms with this omission and cover up by Pang and Po Po that another body was found in the same building. Who was this? Just as DNA is taken from the new corpse, two men rough up the coroner and a guard to steal the remains and samples in the refrigerator. Why were the remains stolen and by whom. As Abby and her replacement in the HKPD, Leslie Choi, are trying to put the pieces together, Po Po is kidnapped. Again why and by whom? The and lies with the Triads and Po Po's past. Good reading....

The author has talent and can produce an easy to read page turner, but the absence of any solutions to the mystery whatsoever left you completely unsatisfied. Might they be picked up in a future novel? Perhaps. But hard to care after this book.

The typos were numerous and noticeable, which is always a shame.

The protagonist prides herself on honesty but then justifies all of the lies she is now forced into telling, so we don't get any insights, just a self justifying explanation. The references to food are plenty but not particularly descriptive and include almost equal time for grilled cheese as a few delectable Chinese dishes.

The main characters are passable but not overly likable. The mother-in-law is increasingly unbelievable.

Hard to want to give this author another chance despite there clearly being some skill exhibited.

Another great book in this series.
This time, as Abby and her family are preparing for a holiday in Hong Kong an earthquake his San Fransisco and a body is found in a Hong Kong office building that is being torn down.
Inspector Leslie Choi, Abby's replacement as the head of the Organized Crime and Triad Bureau in Hong Kong and close friend is given the case to investigate, but things get complicated as Abby's murdered husband (Peng) was the developer of the building, making him a suspect.

What will the two of them uncover about Peng's past? How much does Po Po know? And who else is involved?

It's an interesting and entertaining book, but the ending was a little weak. Still well worth reading if you have enjoyed the earlier books in the series.

Abbi Kane returns to Hong Kong where she worked with the HKP before her husband was murdered and she moved to San Fransisco to work for the FBI. Tagging along is her Chinese mother-in-law and her husband’s 2 children, now adopted by her as her own. What starts off as a family holiday to reconnect with the family heritage soon takes a turn for the worst when her friend and ex colleague from the Hong Kong Police discover a skeleton in a building being demolished and it seems there is a secret family history she knew nothing about. Another super book from Ty Hutchinson and as usual well written with likeable characters and an interesting plot. Keep them coming Ty.

Felt unfinished

I have enjoyed Abby Kane series to this point. Started to read the Suitcase Girl story but realized I didn't read this one. Wish I would have just skipped this one. I feel the story is incomplete. Basically the story just ends. Was hoping to get more background on Peng but we only got scraps. Definitely like Po Po less after this one. Have to agree with the Chan's on how they feel about Po just not the kids. Not sure how this book adds anything to the Abby Kane story.

A vacation back there to show them where there father and their grandmother lived was the plan. Instead she finds all the lies and secrets that have been keep-from her and the children. Pretty good story

I have read a couple of the Abbey Kane books and this is good, but not the best. There are a couple of quite shocking revelations, and some of the tourist views of Hong Kong are interesting. Stick with the author, he does have other better titles in his repertoire.

Doubtful I'll read another book by this author . The ending of this book was terrible knowing that Abby Kane is a FBI agent and willing to let the crimes go unsolved for personal gain . The murder of her husband also unsolved . I don't see a reason to follow this series

extremely disappointed (Kowloon Bay)

I’ve read 7 of Ty Hutchinson books and I have 6 more on my kindle. This book was terrible. To wordy. It was like he didn’t have enough to tell a story so he filled in with a lot of descriptions of food and buildings. Hopefully I can get through the other books I already bought. All his books so far have been good.

Hong Kong Capers

Abby and Po Po take Ryan and Lucy to Hong Kong for a vacation and to try to instill in them.some of their Chinese culture. Of course, what's an Abby Kane book without murder and mayhem. Even without her badge, Abby is sucked into the investigation and learns a lot about her forever family along the way!

This is not an action-oriented novel; rather, it is a detective novel with many twists and turns.
After an earthquake, Abby Kane goes to Hong Kong for some R&R. She meets her successor at HKP, Leslie.
Leslie stumbles upon a case that inadvertently leads to Abby Kane's dead husband. The twists are part of her family's history. It ends well.

Enjoyable read!

Five stars if I'd have known what happened to a certain someone... Can't give anything away, can I?!
Liked the angle from which the book was written and the characters relationships. A good mix of lives and uncovering secrets!

Kowloon Bay

Kind of a disjointed read. That said, the author tells a fairly good story. But, the ending was terrible. Just kind of left me feeling cheated. Obviously a setup for a follow up book.

Abby Kane takes her children to Hong Kong only to find her deceased husband lied to her about quite a few things. Abby, her kids and mother-in-law all are in danger.
The story line was good, but often the author ran on about things that didn't progress the story.

Culture mix

It’s always interesting to read something that mixes two cultures together. Knowing many oriental people, I find them assimilated here well whereas a westerner might take more time to adapt in the Far East. Good storyline and I’m always a fan of whodunnits.

The beginning of the book was a disappointment; it didn’t measure up to my expectations of the Abby Kane series. Didn’t seem as well written, and there were many irrelevant descriptions. But after the action started, it was just fine.

I am really sorry I did not like this series; I just did not like the female protagonist, Abby Kane, for various reasons.
I got the first 6 books in this series for free, otherwise I would have regretted spending money on this.
However, personal taste - what I do not like, someone else will.

Pretty much the same. Abby is suddenly involved in a non-official investigation that has to do with his late husband's murder and she will need to learn how to delegate when the case is no longer hers. Fair read, not good but not bad either.
