Originally a Jersey girl, sunny Texas is where I now call home, in a town way up north in the panhandle called Wellington. Along with the man of my dreams, I have two children: a rambunctious little girl and a sweet but vocal little boy. Three cats, three dogs and an inordinate amount of pet hair complete my household. For fun I like to read YA, horror, and existentialist fiction, as well as watch cartoons, movies, and sometimes even cartoon movies. I try not to take anything in life too seriously and I tend to smile often.
This is officially my favorite series. I like everything about it. I love all the characters but my favorite is Demetri. I'm really looking forward to the next book.
Kat Stiles’ follow up to the amazing connected is fire. She ups the ante in every way. More action, more twists and turns. Emily, the main character, is forced to face the demon that once haunted her past, but has come back to haunt her now. Stiles’ characters are addictive. You can’t get enough of the relationship between Emily, and her boyfriend Tommy. You want to follow them around for more novels to come. There’s new romance brewing for the main character’s sister Lauren and another member has been added to the trio that is Tommy, Emily and Emily’s best friend Roz, now making it a quartet. The characters are well crafted and complex making them different enough from each other that you know who’s talking when there’s dialogue just from their words, or even more amazing, their actions.
I’m usually not a fan of first-person, but Stile’s characters make an easy go of it. She uses first-person flawlessly. Stiles descriptions are right on point. They don’t bog the story down and occur naturally throughout the narrative and dialogue. Stiles also has a way of combining literary elements like action, dialogue, and description in the same passage to create a cinematic effect. Here’s a sample.
“We hadn’t been driving long when we saw Demetri’s truck pulled off on the side of the road. ‘What the—‘ Tommy began, breaking off as the trees gave way to a better view. I gasped. Farther ahead was Lauren’s car, canted to the side in the middle of the road. ‘Oh my God, something happened,’ I said. Tommy pulled in behind Demetri’s truck, and we both bolted toward Lauren’s car. As we got closer, it became clear someone had hit her on the driver’s side. The door was crumpled, and Demetri couldn’t open it with the handle. I watched in awe as he broke the window and grabbed the door by the frame, ripping it off its hinges.”
Stiles also doesn’t feel the need to rehash book one. She makes the stories connect (no pun intended) but they are essentially standalone novels. That’s how well-written the story is. The backstory is perfectly blended. The only problem was it ended a little quickly, and there’s obviously another part coming. When? When?! WHEN?!
I loved this book so much! It's been a while since I read book 1, Connected, but I was able to dive right into the story and everything came back to me. The characters and plot are well, developed and it has a healthy dose of romance, excitement, suspense and drama... in other words, it's a well- rounded story. Can't wait for book 3! Five very enthusiastic stars!
Emily comes face to face with her father after 10 years. The bond between the MCs Emily, Roz, Tommy, Demetri and Lauren strengthens as the try to thwart Emily's kidnapping. A new character Wes joins the mix with a power of his own. And people start to go missing.
Lots of action in this book. Definitely kept the pages turning. Some parts seemed to come to conclusion a little too quickly though. But, the cliffhanger ending left me wanting more.
I was so happy to get more of Emily, Roz, Tommy, and Demetri in Imminence. Although I feel that Roz took a back seat in this sequel and Lauren flourished in the spotlight, I still enjoyed this book nonetheless. It has all the things I loved about the first book; romance, comedy, mystery, and action. This book jumps right back into things following the ending of Connected. Even though its been a while since I've read the first book, Kat does a great job catching me up. This book was still fun to read and I love the closeness of Emily and her relationship with Tommy, Roz, and Demetri. I liked that I get to understand Lauren's character more and she is a big part of this story. There are lots of surprises that come to light.
Despite all the things I love I do have a few cons. I am sad that I didn't like this book as much as the first. The mystery surrounding Emily's father and why he tried to kidnap her is the driving force for this storyline. I was very interested to learn about Emily's father and the role he would play. I felt that the hysteria and the way Emily's mothers became unhinged at the fact that her ex-husband was coming for Emily dragged on way too long. Lauren was overbearing, her mother went completely psycho, and it made Emily scared beyond reason. I felt that it was overdone and that she and her friends never stopped to think why was after Emily, his motives, or how he was attacking people. Lauren's character is always overkill because she acts like an emotionless robot and it was hard to deal with at times, although she clearly redeems herself as Demetri tries to break down her walls. I totally ship them.
The ending has spun a new twist that I am dying to discover. Even though this is not my favorite book of the series I am still dying to read more about these characters and where this new mystery will take them.
Wow this book is a freaking rollercoaster!! OMG Lauren! I can't imagine the things that have happened to Emily in her short life. Absolutely loving this series! Crazy and intense stuff happen throughout... Cannot wait to read the next book!!!
Great continuation of this first book, edgier and Emily faces the demon from her past. The storyline is really good, Emily's and Tommy's relationship is strong and a new relationship blossoms. Fantastic YA series
This is the first time i have read the author Kat Stiles. I love her style of writing and will continue to read her books. They are well writen and keep my interest from start to finish I highly recommend this book to everyone who loves a great book. now I will try to get book 1 to read.
I’m always worried that when I read a sequel, the second book won’t live up to the first. This was not the case with Imminence! It was a great follow-up to Connected and picked up exactly where the first book left off. It was so great to return to the Connected universe to hang out with Em, Tommy, Roz and some cool new characters! I even liked Lauren in this book haha. It was so great to see another side to Em’s sister.
I felt a lot of emotions reading this book. It was funny, frightening, sad and just an overall enjoyable read. There were so many twists and turns and unexpected scenarios. I can honestly say I didn’t know where it was going or how Em would react to all the crazy thrown at her! And there was a lot of (good) crazy. ;)
I’m excited to find out where book 3 in the series is headed and where Em’s paranormal adventure will take her next. This series is a must-read for all of you paranormal romance lovers out there! I highly recommend Imminence if you’ve had the pleasure of reading Connected. It’s written well and offers a great escape. Keep them coming Kat Stiles!
Imminence is the second book in the Connected series, and being as I loved book one, I couldn't wait to read this one. As it had been a while since I read book one, I took the opportunity to re-read that one, and can I just say that even knowing how it ended this time, I still fell in love with the characters and situations just as much! HOWEVER, this review is about the second book, not the first.
Imminence starts where Connected finished. Basically, Em puts the phone down on her dad - the one she had thought was dead for years - and tries to understand just what is going on. Also, whilst dealing with the adrenaline drop from the attack. Not easy for anyone, let alone a sixteen-year-old! The gorgeous Tommy is on hand though, to help her cope. And yes, this is one of those times that I felt like a complete cougar, lusting after a (much) younger man!! I blame Kat Stiles though - if she hadn't made him so scrummy, I wouldn't be needing counselling right now! 😉
Suffice it to say, this story is packed full of action and melting moments, plus you get to see Em's dad and why he did what he did. I loved that part, when it all became clear. If an author can make you relate to the 'big bad' then she is definitely doing it right. Lauren was a star in this book, and the repartee she has going on with Demetri had me laughing out loud.
Excellently written, with a fantastic storyline, and amazing characters, Imminence is a wonderful addition to the Connected series. Fair warning though, it does end on a cliffhanger that had me shouting out! Absolutely loved it, and definitely recommended by me.

Since I hadn't read Connected, the first book in the series, I had to backtrack and read that before diving into Imminence. And jus like Connected, I liked Imminence a lot. The story is well developed and the characters are great. There is suspense, drama, thrill and, of course, romance. Can't wait for the next book. I chose to read this book and all opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased. Thanks to NetGalley and Kat Stiles!
