With the reading of "The Sorting Room's" first chapter, I fell in love with this wonderful science fiction!

Have you ever questioned your existence? If you ask me, I have- but that's all different as we each believe in different theories. And yes, science fiction rules out most of our conventional beliefs.

The first page of this book opens up to the delivery of Luna, through a chamber that fully grows into young life within seconds and she is taken care by her mentor Onyx, who is used to taking care of these young lives to work in the Upper world. She is now selected as a sorter- the one who chooses our life carefully to be sent to earth to grow gradually to be a human in the usual process. That means our souls were in the upper world, being decided on centuries before and sent to earth to our beloved ones, once our time comes. Similar to the upper world, there is the underworld- where souls are somewhat crushed for the wrong-doings they had committed.

Luna is very new to all these and doesn't have a clue of what to do, but is supposed to keep going as per the rules here and needs to act fast as the orders come in. She meets a friend and helps her get a stand on this upper world too. But of course, the story has got to have some twists😉 so almost all the hardships and their hits fall on Luna. And I must say, I started to become so personally connected to the plot and got emotional at some point. But I don't know for sure if its fate that strings together Onyx and Luna; making space for some hope, something that can always brighten us and our lives up.

So are you guys intrigued to know what will happen to Luna? Then dive into this book ASAP.

Thanks to the author for providing me with a copy in exchange for an honest review.

This is one of the most unique stories I've ever read, and I mean this as complement. The Sorting Room makes you think, and wonder. The characters were great. I really enjoyed it but the editing was a bit rough. I kept stumbling over parts and having to re-read them to figure out what it was supposed to say. I believe with a editor this book could be polished up to a solid 4-4.5 star book.

Interesting premise

Singer really tried with this debut novel. It was short and had a really interesting premise. But the character development was lacking and at times 3 characters were speaking in the same paragraph making it hard to understand.
But overall you find yourself rooting for Luna and Onyx. I wish there was more. It seemed incomplete.

Ok

Had a really hard time reading this book. The idea of the story is good it just isn’t presented in a way that I could get into the story. Would love to know the rest of the story just hope that when it’s written it’s presented better.

This book was a light and cute read in terms of how fast you can breeze through it. It isn’t hard to read through, and it provides an entertaining sci-fi romance into your hands.

Knowing the author, I can safely say that this work doesn’t really represent her writing at the moment. It was interesting to dive into this book and see how much Singer has progressed, however.

There were a few inconsistencies in terms of plot. I noticed more telling than showing. The point of view was third person omniscient, which can be a hard thing to do, so there was a bit of head-hopping. Half-way through the book there was a shift in the writing, so I saw in real time her progress, which was a cool thing when you’re reading as a writer.

The creativity behind this concept was what blew me away. The idea that there is another realm that controls every birth on Earth is fascinating. The little intricate details of that realm was my favorite part of the book. The sorting room, the way the sorters are developed, how the main character was made to be a sorter despite a fact about her from the past, and just everything there was amazing. I would’ve liked more description of that place, honestly, because it was definitely the highlight for me.

It was an entertaining book for sure, and I can’t wait to see how the story and the writing continue to progress in the other two books that follow.

A nice mix of imagination and adventure

Luna is what the author calls an immortal entity in the Upperworld. In the first chapter, we "see" how she comes to life, which is both very imaginative and descriptive, like everything else in this futuristic world, with gender-based systems, glowing detecting implants, humanoid souls, and, of course, the sorting room (I would like to look into the brain of Angelina Singer LOL). Luna learns all she needs to know about assigning souls and dispatching them to Earth, with Onyx as her mentor. But as she starts to learn more about the Upperworld, something goes terribly wrong. No to many spoilers here... but Luna is sent to earth and she might not make it back...
Angelica Singer surely has a very vivid imagination and I can't wait to see where it brings us next ;-)

The premise of this series sounded so interesting, but after reading only about 3 1/2 chapters I just couldn't continue reading. It seemed that the author requested that various and sundry 2, 3 and 4 syllable words should be sprinkled throughout the manuscript in order to, perhaps, raise the reading level. However, those words were consistently used incorrectly. One example: magnanimous. Can a building be magnanimous? Can failure to deliver bring magnanimous repercussions? This author seems to think so! After the third egregious vocabulary gaffe I just couldn't continue. The real tragedy is that this is a young adult book, which should be faultlessly (or perhaps pristinely, another blooper in the book) edited for these sorts of blunders, in order to help preserve the written language with young people.

This story skirts the line between science fiction and fantasy, two of my favorite categories. It introduces a world of immortal beings tasked with the responsibility of seeing that the human world stays on track as per their fate and development. Unlike most stories that present immortals as extremely powerful and intelligent (even sometimes all-knowing), "The Sorting Room" has an array of personalities and mental development in its immortals. It follows the story of one recently born/created immortal girl who is sent to Earth to correct a mistake in the sorting of human souls. But the plot grows even more intricate from there. It's a fantastic read with an intriguing and well thought out plot with a hint of darkness and the philosophical.

I entered Ms. Singer’s Upperworld Trilogy giveaway at Rhode Island Comic Con and was pleasantly surprised when I won the complete series! Ms. Singer has developed an intriguing world that plays on classical mythology themes as well as introducing science fiction concepts. The characters were likable and I found myself laughing out loud at some of the antics that the Upperworld beings got up to when they found themselves stuck on Earth. I enjoyed Luna's story arch over the series. Some other standouts include the character of Constance in the third book (although I questioned some of the modern language used during the time period at which that part of the book was set), Anthony's relationship with his sister, and the overall description of the Upperworld. I would love to see what this would look like on film.

A few grammatical errors, but an interesting idea and a fun read!

Source: I requested it from the author.
Format: Ebook

I really enjoyed this book. It had an interesting concept and it gave a twist on some things we see in the world today. It was interesting to see everything fall into place and I didn't suspect any of it. I enjoyed the characters and I am excited to see how they develop in the next series. It is a very easy book to read and understand which is always a plus. The book ended pretty fast which I was not a fan of, but it's understandable. The book is action paced and it held my attention. I'm excited for book 2!

Rating: 4/5 I would recommend to everyone!

The Sorting Room is my first read of 2019 and let me tell you, it has set the bar really high. I loved the take on human life and its perception of reincarnation. The story was well-written, there were just the right amount of twist and turns. It was so captivating and when ever I was "mommy" ing or working I was reading lol The Sorting Room comes highly recommended from this reader.

I enjoyed the story. I read the sample first then I went out and bought the book so I could finish hearing the rest of the story. Read it all in one day. I look forward to the next book. This is a clean story acceptable for any age person.

I love the idea of this book and The Upperworld. Unfortunately the execution of the story is a bit forced. There was very little time spent getting you to feel for the characters. They were a bit flat and dull.

With The Sorting Room, the beginning of an unusual Fantasy/SciFi series, Angelina Singer gives us an intriguing concept, an Upperworld that functions as an intuitive factory sorting souls to be sent to humans on Earth. The beings there are a bit like us, but also decidedly different. The most striking diffenence is their inabilty to feel emotion. Jump into the Upperworld and meet a new being fresh from creation, and many that have exited for centuries.

Luna, a lovely being with raven-black hair, violet eyes, and a body appearing around that of a twenty year old Earth humanoid, awakens in her creation pod. She is first aware of light, confusion, and a form of comfort and reassurance coming from the being beside her. Luna is particularly timid, even for a new creation.

Onyx, Luna's designated guide, holds her and sees to her needs in the pod. When she is strong enough, he begins Luna's tour of the Upperworld. Onyx is an old guide of four centuries, but soon finds his experience with this fearful being is unlike any other before. Is he feeling something like human protectiveness for Luna?

Pick up your copy of the sorting room. Find out if beings of the Upperworld are capable of emotions! Will Luna have what it takes to fulfil her duties in the sorting room?

The premise of this story is really interesting and full of potential, unfortunately the book falls short of what it could be. The use of an editor could have helped with the presentation of ideas and to fix mistakes throughout in both tone and grammar.
