When she confronts him about his feelings for her, he reveals a secret of his own—one that could destroy them before they’ve even started. Can Savannah and Josh make a relationship work? Or are there some secrets that are too hard to overcome?
I really liked Savannah and Josh together. Older brother's best friend is a favorite trope of mine. This book fit that bill perfectly. It was really fulfilling to see Josh finally admit to himself and to her how he felt about her. Also the lead up to the end was really exciting. Looking forward to reading the next book.
Loved this book. Talk about the path to true love isn't always straightforward ❤️ Lots of emotion and plenty of hurdles but in the end Josh and Savannah's story ended perfect. Everyone needs a Josh in their lives. Highly recommend
After reading Taking Chances I didn't know what I was going to feel going into Savannah and Joshs story but liked it was frustrated at times though . I'd suggest that you read book one before starting Defying Gravity even though it can be read as a stand alone the couple are mentioned and the things they go through . Josh and Savannah have had feelings for one another but a certain hero put a stop to it whenever it came time to cross that barrier . When they get together it was hot and they made up for lost time. Josh is a hero that it took me time to connect to he did frustrate me in book one and then a little in this one but once he tells the heroine his reasoning it was understandable but again very frustrating . I like the Savannah I just wish she would have had a better back bone and stop blaming herself when none of it was her fault to begin with . I'm looking forwared to whats to come can't wait to read more by this author .

Laura Farr you have done it again!!! What a brilliant read!! Savannah and Josh are the epitome of true love!
It starts as the Forbidden Love when Savannah falls for her brothers best friend! Knowing she couldn't act on her feelings her attempts to move on leave her in a life altering situation!
Whilst reading this your practically begging for them to have their happy ending! Josh the very sexy cowboy can only be described as the most perfect book boyfriend! You literally soon with every line!!
There are plenty of ups and downs in this book you will be hooked! I was!! I read it within a day I just couldn't put it down!!
Laura Farr has away to make you see and feel everything in her story’s for me there is only a handful of authors that do this and when I get a new one it’s amazing I feel and get sucked in very fast when this happens and with the healing hearts books it happened for me with page one in the first book.
High with emotion full with nail biting twists and just all round fantastic. Well done on an more than great lovely story. I can’t wait to read more from this author.
After reading book one in this Healing Hearts Series I was hooked. These books must be read in order though, because they really pick up where the other one left off.
I knew that I had to know what was going to go on with Josh and Savannah and this book did not disappoint. Definitely full of some twists and turns I did not see coming, I was on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next.
This book was worth the read for sure. I loved getting to revisit the characters I loved from book 1 at the same time I got to find out more about Josh and Savannah's back story. - By Alisa
I was lucky enough to be asked to read Defying Gravity for the author. I had fallen in love with Taking Chances so I knew DG would be epic! Laura Farr didn't disappoint bringing as much passion and detail to Savannah and Josh's story as possible making the story flow, each word pulling you deeper into their story. I was throughly pleased with the outcome and I can't wait to read more from this author.
I was so excited for this book after reading book 1 and it didn't disappoint.
I was wondering where the author would go with this story as it seemed in book 1 that Josh didn't care, but boy was I wrong! This is a sweet but sexy read that will have you swooning everywhere. I loved Josh's love for Savannah and how Savannah coped with what life was throwing at her.
Another fabulous book by Laura Farr. Defying Gravity was more of an emotionally charged book in my opinion. A love that grows through the years between a girl and her brothers best friend. It becomes a battle of feelings between Savannah and Josh leaving them guessing can it be right or will it go wrong. I read this book in one night because I couldn't put it down, it's that awesome!!!
Brother's best friend storyline. Not my favourite troupe to be honest. It is okay. The 'I don't want you but no-one else can have you while I have a string of girlfriends' reasoning was irritating and it happens for a while. She talks about him and his skanks at one point but she is the one who is pregnant by a man she doesn't know as she had a string of one night stands and doesn't know which is the father. Also we learnt in book 1 that he knows she likes him so he takes other girls with him when he's around her, I can't believe he is that clueless that he didn't see it would hurt her or he comes across not caring that it will. I am not surprised she avoided going out in his company and I can't really understand why he would be. I didn't think much of him after book I and my opinion didn't really improve despite his reasons. Some of the reasonings and conversations were well written and his reason for not going there was original and a genuine concern but obviously he should have explained it to her a long time ago. The couple from the first book feature and other members of the family who have possible storylines hinted at. It was okay, it's not one I'd re-read. This author is new to me and I may possibly try another book.
Loved Laura's debut book Taking Chances and this follow up of Savannah's story is just as good if not better. Even though this can be read as a standalone I would recommend you read Taking Chances first so you can see the build up to where Savannah is now.
Josh and Savannah have had feelings for years for each other but Josh has put barriers up until he finally realises that if he doesn't act now he could lose her forever. God did I want to slap Josh numerous times before he gave in for making Savannah cry, typical idiot! Once they do get together it is so sweet and oh so scorching hot! the 2 of them together is simply beautiful.
Can't wait to see what happens next in this series and I have a feeling after the ending Brody is the next one to be knocked on his arse by the love bug.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Readers Copy of this book in exchange for an honest review from the author and Give Me Books
Book 2 in the Healing Hearts series. You do not have to have read book 1 to enjoy Defying Gravity, but I recommend you do as it will increase your reading pleasure and your connections with a great cast of characters.
There is nothing worse than unrequited love. Savannah Parker knows this first hand. Having loved her older brothers’ best friend Josh Miller for as long as she remember, her one attempt at winning him over was as mortifying as it was heart-breaking. Knowing it’s time to move on and try and heal her heart, Savannah makes some questionable decisions. Those decisions end up hitting her where she least expects it and changing her life forever. With a family she adores disappointed and facing the biggest challenge of her life, her biggest supporter becomes Josh. Sometimes things happen for a reason and what you thought you had lost suddenly appears.
Life is changing for Savannah, but will that be with Josh? Or are too many things against them?
This really is a great follow-up to Taking Chances, Libby and Mason’s story. Having met and experienced Savannah’s heartbreak in that book I was totally excited to know that Libby’s lovely cousin would be next. I love a bit of angst in my reads and this book was always going to head out on that train.
I don’t really want to say too much more on the storyline as it will spoil the read for you, but as with book 1 this isn’t an easy journey for either characters. If you have read book 1 then you will know that the attraction was without a doubt mutual, so what was holding Josh back? Well we do get to learn this and it is a surprisingly sad reason. But other factors get in the way as well and so don’t expect an easy journey for them; no cookie cutter romance easy read with this book.
Having said that, the joy of reading a Laura Farr book is that they are easy reads. Yes I know that contradicts my previous statement somewhat, but it is her writing that I comment on at this point. It flows, it is engaging and the storyline follows the path she has set out on, without the need to detour for the sake of it so you don’t know what the hell is going on. The angst is perfect, the sex scenes hot and the pace of Savannah and Josh’s story spot on.
So another great read from this new author. If you haven’t yet taking the plunge then I highly recommend you. I can’t wait to see what is in store next… although I have a slight inkling on who it will be about.
** ARC provided by the author for an honest review **
Unrequited love takes center stage in Defying Gravity, book two in Laura Farr’s Healing Hearts series. This is a standalone, but both characters appear in the first book. If you do read Taking Chances first you may have a better understanding of their situation.
Savannah Parker is miserable. She watches the man she loves parade woman after woman through his door. He doesn’t want her, he made that pretty clear when he turned her down. Determined to put her feelings behind her and move on, she becomes a bit wild. Parties and boys almost nonstop. Her reckless behavior ends with devastating consequences. When her family finds out, they are not as supportive as they should be. She is left with no one in her corner.
Josh Miller is Savannah’s brother’s best friend. He has been off limits to her for years and the same goes for him, but for reasons unknown to her. At her lowest time, he steps in to be the support she needs. The more their friendship grows the more the lines blur. Does he feel the same way, or is everything done strictly through the bond of friendship?
Laura has done it again. Is it possible to feel this much emotion at once? Overwhelmed. That is what I am right. Completely overwhelmed with emotion. Mine. Savannah’s. Josh’s. These two both had secrets that changed the direction of their lives. So many obstacles to navigate to get to their happy ever after. Once you know everything you completely understand why they behave the way they do toward each other, but that doesn’t stop the frustration from rising.
Laura’s writing is thoroughly engrossing. You become absorbed into the story and experience what the characters do alongside them. Before reading book one I hadn’t read a cowboy romance in some time. Now after reading Defying Gravity I am ready to hop back on that horse. Incredibly worthwhile read. FOUR stars.
Having read Taking Chances and absolutely loved it, I couldn't wait to read this second book in the Healing Hearts series! Taking Chances really needs to be read first in order to appreciate the story and characters that are in this second book.
In Taking Chances, we learn that Savannah has loved her brothers best friend, Josh, for years. She even told him how she feels but he doesn't feel that way about her. Poor Savannah had to watch and suffer as he paraded a different girlfriend in front of her all the time, while all she wanted was Josh.
Savannah can't take it any more and is determined to move on with her life, and so stops spending time with her brother and Josh and goes out with some girl friends, getting drunk and having casual sex with a few different boys. This decision changes her life forever.
Josh has watched Savannah from afar, trying to get on with his life, but also not being able to stand it when Savannah was with another boy, but also knowing he could never be with Savannah in that way. But his reasons for them not being together are completely different to hers, something she knows nothing about, and as Savannah's secret is revealed, so Josh's reasons for not being together become unraveled.
A fabulous story, full of heartbreak, despair and longing that changes to hope, realisation and finding love. This is very much a true life story, so easily relatable to!! Lots of twists and turns and family drama from both Savannah and Josh's family, making this quite a gut wrenching read at times, really quite emotional and had me in tears once or twice.
I loved this - Savannah and Josh's story was fabulous, full of ups and downs, but everything worthwhile is worth fighting for and I loved seeing Savannah and Josh do just that. A highly recommended 5 star read.
This is book two in the Healing Hearts series and while each book can be read as a standalone you will see that Libby and Mason's storyline continues (characters from book one), but at no time are you felt lost if you picked this book up to read and haven’t read book one. This is Savannah and Josh’s story. After reading both books, I still cannot decide who I love the best as they are both good and you’ll love both set of characters. Savannah oh Savannah, she puts on a good game face when it comes to Josh, her brother Brody’s BF. She’s been in love with him for years and she breaks a little more each day; however, a reckless void may not give her a chance to ever start their forever if she can get him to see her the way she wants him too. This decision may alter the game plan, but Josh is her greatest support person during this time. Confessions be darned because one confession just may derail another confession. Holy smack into a bale of hay and set it on fire when your heart is tested on this ranch. Josh’s background on why he thought he was never good enough for Sav was heartbreaking. Awesome in a way, but bitter in other ways. I guess fates way of pulling two people who loved each other from afar all those years was the surprise from Savannah. In god's order this happened for a reason to give themselves something of their own miracle. Love that this didn't deter him from pursuing what was a long time in making coming. Grace, Josh’s moms action was understandable but thought that it would have been a blessing for her. Took a twister to get her to see the light. This story is not only about defying Gravity but defying the odds in getting a second chance at life and love and knowing that with hope your dreams will come true when time is right. Brody's story (up next in the series) makes you wonder if it's going to be the girl who was in the wedding party or the mysterious girl in the barn that draws his attention.
Defying Gravity By. Laura Farr Savannah knew her life was going to change when she say the positive result on the pregnancy test. She just didn’t know how much her life was going to change. She has been in love with Josh since she was a teenager, but now she just knows that they could never be together because why would be want to be with her when she is having another man’s baby. Never the less when she can’t even remember who the father is. Josh has loved Savannah since they both were only teenagers. But there was no way that he could be with her and give her everything that she could want. At least that is what he has told himself over the years. Yet he can’t stand for another man to touch her, or even for her to find love with another person. Now he thinks he’s too late she pregnant by another man, so he’s lost his chance and she loves another, at least that’s what he thinks. I will say that I liked this story. Both want to be together, yet they just don’t think that it will every come to be. The situation that Savannah finds herself in is one that can make anyone think that now you will never have what you want. But, life has other plans for her and when her story unfolds, I found myself liking the way that it was heading. I wish that the story was longer. I can’t wait to get the next part of this series.
After Taking Chances and how fantastic Laura's debut book was, I just knew that Defying Gravity was going to follow in its footsteps and my assumption was correct.
Being asked to beta read this for Laura, I couldn't wait to get started and I literally devoured it. I made the mistake of starting it at 11pm thinking I'd read just a couple of chapters and by 2.30am I had to force myself to put it down and get some sleep! A testament to a fantastic book in my eyes.
Savannah has pined for her brothers best friend Josh for as long as she can remember but he has never shown any interest in her. Watching whilst he parades girl after girl in front of her, she finally realises that she needs to move on with her life but things don't go exactly the way she plans.
Josh is the ultimate sexy cowboy and the perfect book boyfriend. He will literally have you swooning with the way he treats Savannah, the lengths he goes to for her and do ensure she is happy and you will find yourself willing them together for the entire book and hoping that they get their HEA.
Well done Laura, another fantastic 5 star must read book x
Another fantastic book from the lovely Laura Farr!
If you have read book 1 in the series Taking Chances, you will already be familiar with the main characters in this book; Savannah and Josh.
This book sees Savannah’s life take a dramatic turn when she has a positive pregnancy test and the prospect of a future as a single Mum, as she has no idea who the father is.
This book was emotional all the way through and you can’t help but cheer on Savannah and Josh to finally get together after all this time when she’s liked him but he’s denied her advances. The pregnancy being the big turning point for Josh, and who knows, if Savannah hadn’t fallen pregnant he might never have pushed himself to admit to her his true feelings.
I really enjoyed this book and it was lovely to see the other characters once again (Libby and Mason) and to see how their lives were panning out. I loved Savannah and Mason and was so happy they finally had their chance at a happy ending even though it doesn’t run smoothly. A nicely written book and my only complaint is that I felt at times the story dragged on slightly in places for me.
I can’t wait to see what the next book in the story brings!
A gorgeous second instalment to the Healing Hearts Series, Defying Gravity blew me away!
This book follows Savannah and Josh’s story, and it’s heartbreaking and beautiful and I loved it!!!
Savannah has loved josh since she was a young girl. She adored him from a far, knowing nothing would ever come of it as he was her big brothers best friend. As they grew older, Savannah had to sit back and watch Josh date girl after girl, her heart silently breaking more and more each time.
Realising she can’t live that way any more, she starts going out partying and drinking which leads into a number of one night stands.
As her world comes crashing down around her, Josh is there to break her fall. He helps her out and begins to change towards her, confusing the hell out of her! He couldn’t possibly feel the same way about her after all these years, could he?
Laura’s talent for writing just gets better and better in this book. Taking Chances overwhelmed me with how well it was written, being Laura’s debut. Defying Gravity shows her talent going from strength to strength in this amazing story.
Laura is so good at bringing out all the feelings of heartbreak, second chances, love, loss and passion. You can feel everything Savannah feels deep into your bones, and as a result get fully immersed in the story.
I love everything about this book, I’m a sucker for a Happily Ever After, so was totally rooting for this couple the whole time, demanding to myself that Josh get his head out of his arse and claim her!!! Lol!!!
This book is everything you could want from a love story, and gets a HUGE 5⭐️ from me!!!
This was all too quick and easy for me if I'm being honest. I tend to struggle with being told what's happening rather than experiencing it myself!
The h is in love with her brothers best friend, but he just keeps parading girls around in front of her (even thou she's confessed her feelings to him)
To get over him she starts going out getting drunk and hooking up with some randoms......(to be honest I'm thinking why not, if he's getting some why can't our h) but she gets pregnant...and doesn't know who the father is!
So with a little whoops in the oven she finally tells everyone and the H gets all protective. There's a minor twist for why he never confessed his feeling until now but I was really struggling by then if I'm being honest. After they get together it's all very fast, they confess they love each other, he wants baby to be his and they're living together.
I haven't read the first book in this series and I think that may have helped me feel a connection to these characters, so maybe if your interested in this one check out book one (both stand alone) before you check this one out!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I'm speechless! After reading her debut book that was already a hit for me, I was looking forward to reading Savannah's story and it was well worth the wait. If I could give the book more than 5 stars, I would! Don't know how the author has done it but the way the story was written, you can't help but relate and feel every word like it's you that's going through it. That's just true magic. I had tears in my eyes 'cuz I could relate to Savannah and how she felt. The story really touched my heart and I cannot wait to read Brody's story next!
Savannah has been in love with Josh since her teenage years but no matter how hard she tried to get his attention, he doesn't see her standing. She does everything in her power to try to get over him but nothing seems to work and when something happens she never thought possible, being with Josh seems even more further away. But Josh has a secret of his own and no matter how hard he tries to stay away from Savannah, every day it seems to be even harder to let her go. And when Savannah's life is turned upside down, he'll be even more determined to change things for the better...
Oh wow. This book truly came out with an emotional punch. The story and everything about this book I devoured. When you look for a book that has the angst the forbidden love, the gets you to the edge of your seat and makes you want more and more this is it. Josh and Savannahs story is truly wonderful. I honestly could not put it down. Savannah has been in love with Josh since she was 15 years old. But Josh is her brothers best friend. But when Josh starts the push and pull with her she decides she is done with her heart hearting and hangs out with the wrong crowd. When a life altering thing happens to her she must face the consequences and grow up. She tells her family but the last person she tells is Josh until he walks in on her being secretive and ends up telling him her secret. Josh is furious but he just can not let her go. But he is furious because he has his own secret on why he has been stringing her along. The love these two share is amazing and I could not be more happy to have rad an arc of this book.
This arc was kindly given in exchange for an honest review.
This was such a wonderful book! I really enjoyed the overall experience the read gave me. I felt connected with the characters and the story, making it very addicting.
I liked the characters Farr created for us, really giving us people to connect with and get to know, as the story carried on. It is an interesting story, with the connection between he two, prior to the romance kicking off. It creates a very interesting dynamic between them and definitely creates issues and barriers, for our leading lady.
The pace is great. It give you plenty of time to get to know the characters, their story and see what is happening. However, you also still get spurts of exciting and swifter paces, making the whole experience even more enjoyable.
I really loved the way this read progressed and know that a lot of readers who love the friends to lovers/ sibling’s friends stories will absolutely adore it. It is so much fun, very realistic and adorable.
**I received and arc and chose to provide my honest review.
Defying Gravity by Laura Farr is the second book in the Healing Hearts series, and it tells the story of Savannah Parker and Josh Miller.
This story was pretty adorable. There were no insane car chases, bombs going off, or other craziness that filters into these feel goods from time to time. It was just normal people, with normal problems, and buckets of emotion. I'm a bit of a sucker for the feel good story with a good dad, so this one sucked me right in.
That said it was an interesting choice by the author to tell the entire story from Savannah's perspective. It was still an amazing story, but it may have been a missed opportunity for extra feels to get Josh's perspective. A good man, a good father, and sexy in cowboy boots. It's enough to make any girl swoon. I would have loved to know his thoughts throughout this tale, and to feel some of his inner turmoil.
Overall I loved the story, and plan to continue reading the rest of the series.
This was the second Laura Farr book that I have read. I read Taking Chances, which was the first book in the series based on a different couple. I had some problems with some of the decisions that the characters made and the way that the plot line went so I was wary about jumping into this book. It turned out I had a right to be wary. I enjoyed this book more than Taking Chances, but it still was not my favorite.
I just found myself frustrated with the characters more than I was enjoying them. There were definitely sweet moments in between the chaos, but not enough for me to truly love the book. I ended up skimming ahead and reading the last few chapters just to find out what ended up happening for Savannah and Josh. The ending was definitely sweet and I was really excited for them.
Of course, everyone connects to books in different ways so just because I was not a huge fan, doesn't mean that someone else might enjoy it.
I was the lucky girl who got to read this book as it was being written. Laura always produces amazing story lines and when she puts her words onto paper they come alive in your head and you cant help but get swept up in the love story ahead of you. Josh and Savannah had already crept into our hearts in Taking Chances and now their story will completely blow you away. Savannah is sassy and out there and knows what she wants and doesn't give up. But one mistake to forget the man she loves may cost her. Josh knows what he wants but doesn't have the heart to go for it as he believes he can't for one reason only and that's where you need to read the book and find out that reason. Defying Gravity is another read of 2017 first Taking Chances Now this from the Healing Hearts Series.
After meeting Savannah and her brothers best friend Josh in Taking Chances, I've been desperate for their story.
I loved Sav from the start and this book made me love her even more. She's spent years secretly in love with her brother best friend and had to watch him parade multiple girls around in front of her but she still can't stop thinking about him. When she gets a massive wake up call she finally realised that her and Josh are never going to happen. Facing the toughest time of her life the last person she's expecting to step up and be there for her is Josh. I was engrossed in Sav and Josh's relationship. That unrequited love, the disappointment, the changes the characters go through are all perfect. Another great book by Laura Farr!
Savannah has been in love with Josh for as long as she can remember. As her brother's best friend, he has always been off limits but he has always given off mixed messages towards her. In an attempt to get over him, she has a few one nights with different men and leaves her with more than she bargained for. But rather than pushing Josh further away it brings him closer to Savannah.
This was very much a sweet and poignant read as the reason why Josh has stayed away despite his feelings for Savannah is revealed. Savannah's strength came through in bucket loads, whilst Josh's sacrifice is admirable. I loved the setting and the feel of this book that was very much character driven. A beautiful, yet messy read.
Defying Gravity by Laura Farr is the second book in the Healing Hearts Series. Book one is Taking Chances, Libby and Mason´s story. Every book can easily be reda as a standalone, there are only a few cross-over. Savannah Parker is miserable, pregnant without a babydaddy, single and with a crush on her brothers best friend for forever. Josh has fallen for her too, a lond time ago, but he has issues of his own. Defying Gravity is a great love story with authentic and lovable characters. I love the story , the writing and the words. I recommend the book and the series and give 5 stars. Thank you, Laura Farr!
I'm at a loss for words, this book is as heart breaking as it is beautiful. it can be read as a stand alone. Savannah has been in love with her brothers best friend for as long as she can remember, only recently coming to terms that they won't ever be together. She ends up making mistakes that lead her right to her true love, and them mistakes don't seem so bad any more. the road to true happiness is never straight forward and there are always obstacles in the way, but what Savannah and Josh have is true, there love is amazing and extremely deserved after what they have been through to end up together.
