Since they were five years old, Jasmine Cox Larson Bush and Kyla Blake had a bond that could not be broken. They shared secrets, marked milestones, and held each other up through life’s adversities. It was a friendship that they both thought would last forever. But when Jasmine’s jealousy led her to seduce Kyla’s husband, Dr. Jefferson Blake, that bond was severed and their friendship was damaged forever….
The worst of times….
Now, twenty years later, a major tragedy brings the two together when Jefferson, in New York for a medical convention, is shot in an attempted robbery. It’s the love that Jasmine once had for Kyla that sends her rushing to the hospital to be by her friend’s side. Kyla, despondent and distraught, just wants answers….and when a mysterious woman appears, it’s Jasmine who believes that woman may hold the key to what happened to Jefferson.
While Kyla doesn’t believe that this woman has any meaning, Jasmine is not so sure. Will Jasmine uncover a secret that Jefferson is hiding? And when she does find out the truth, what will she do with it? Will she destroy Kyla’s life or will she do anything to protect her friend from the same devastation that she caused her twenty years before?

Temptation : The Aftermath. This was a good book it picked up exactly 20 years later. Jasmine a totally different women then she was then when she slept with her Best friend husband. Who would have thought Jasmine would be one there in her time of need whither Kayla wanted it or not. This book bought back a lot of memories of Lady Jasmine and Mae Frances. I really hope Mae Frances gets her own book. This book dealt with forgiveness, patience, faith and a whole lot of God.
Twenty years later, and I am so glad that VCM, one of my favorites, decided to write this sequel. This is the reunion of Kyla Blake and Jasmine Cox Larson Bush. The two were best friends since kindergarten until Jasmine did the unthinkable twenty years ago and slept with Kyla's husband, Jefferson. But, Jasmine isn't that person anymore. Now married to Pastor Hosea Bush, mother of two to Zaya and Jackie, and First Lady at City of Lights, Jasmine deeply regrets the pain she has caused her former best friend.
Tragedy brings Kyla and Jasmine together again after Jefferson is critically injured while attending a conference in New York. Jasmine tries desperately to prove that she is a changed woman, but will Kyla be able to forgive Jasmine for her indiscretions? Is their relationship salvageable?
And just who is this mystery women that was with Jefferson when he was shot? Why was she there? And why were she and Jefferson all the way in Washington Heights when this was nowhere near the conference location? Jasmine tries to solves this mystery and get to the bottom of the situation without once again devastating her best friend.
Great writing, exciting characters (read: Mae Frances), and a very entertaining plot will keep you turning the pages on this novel. I do hope that VCM will write another installment of the Jasmine/Kyla series.
Wow. I am totally in awe of this phenomenal story I just read. I read the first book when it was released 20 years ago, and decided to re read it before starting this one (even though you don't really need to read the first one. There is enough information in the story that will catch you up.) Kayla and Jasmine have been friends since kindergarten, but an incident 20 years ago stalled their friendship. Kayla's husband, Dr. Jefferson Blake, get's shot while visiting in New York ( where Jasmine and her now husband Pastor Hosea Bush live) and Jasmine is determined to uncover every secret as to what happened to her friend's husband. We also see appearances from Mae Francis (who seems to know everyone and is always getting Jasmine out of sticky situations) as well as the Blake's daughter, Nicole ( who is now in her 30's). It was a phenomenal story line, and I loved the way it ended.
It's been a minute since I've read a VCM novel. And what better way to delve back into her world than by reading the follow up to the first novel of hers I've read with the character who can't get out of her own way? Twenty years later and Jasmine Cox Larson Bush can't help but to tell a lie, even if said lie is in the service of sparing an ex-friend heartache and pain.
Told in first person from the POV of Jasmine Larson and Kyla Blake, these two women who used to be close as sisters deal with trying to find answers, redemption (Jasmine) and comfort (Kyla) in the wake of Kyla's husband, Jefferson who's been shot in the head in a NYC bodega. We're taken back to the first day Jasmine and Kyla met, the day Kyla and Jefferson met and when he proposed, and the times karma caught up with Jasmine. In between those flashbacks, Kyla had to cope with whether she had truly forgiven Jasmine for sleeping with her husband (although she had forgiven her husband), and Jasmine wanting to solve the mystery of who the woman Jefferson was last seen with right before he was shot. A woman who claimed to be friends with benefits.
VCM interjects teachings on faith and forgiveness with scripture to back it up. Although I just want to say that, from what I've been taught, we don't need to go through hardships in order to learn a lesson. Kyla struggled with being strong for her husband and daughter, and being that pillar of faith while needing support. And that support came in the form of Jasmine's husband, Hosea. Yeah I felt she had relied on him a bit *too* much, and part of me wondered if she did mostly as get back at Jasmine. And Jasmine found herself wondering if Kyla might to do her what she did to Kyla, therefore homegirl was openly talking to herself in public, lol.
In classic Jasmine form, she enlisted the help of one of my fave characters, Mae Frances. Seriously, MF needs her own book but then, if I knew all the odds and ends of her life story it would take away the allure of how this woman knows everybody and has the connections she has to make moves and save the day. I also can't help but imagine her in her mink coat every single time she comes on the scene. But anyways, Jasmine called her up and Mae Frances went to work.
I will say the book did languish in some parts as it caught readers up on what had happened in prior novels. Those bits I skimmed and started to get a bit impatient for Jefferson to wake up from his medically induced coma, because homeboy had some 'splaining to do. I needed deets on what went down, did he really cheat on Kyla AGAIN or had he been set up. I began to suspect the latter when the woman, Lola named a specific price to Jasmine in order to keep her mouth shut. Homegirl was living in a million dollar brownstone and she car she drove was in someone else's name. She had to be funding her lifestyle some kind of way.
Not to give away the rest of the story, but things came to a head, but I wasn't blown away with the reveal. I can't say I walked away feeling like justice had been served, but well...I'll leave that for others to decide.
I do have one major con and it's this...
I had borrowed this book from Hoopla, my public library's online library and the format was all kinds of jacked up. I don't know if the other ebook versions of this story suffered with the same problems, but the format made this almost difficult to read. Despite that, the book was okay. It did a decent job of showing how we might think we've forgiven someone but how we can still harbor dislike, distrust, and unforgiveness in our hearts.
The voice actors Shari R. Peele and Patricia Floyd gave solid performances.
This book was a twenty year reunion for Jasmine and Kyla. Victoria Christopher Murray did an outstanding job bringing the former best friends back together because of tragedy. This book shows Jasmine’s growth as a person grounded in faith, yet she still isn’t perfect.
Jasmine and her BFF Mae Francis are back together again with hilarious banter and of course trouble is never far. The book continued the codependent relationship Jasmine has with Mae Francis when trouble arises.
Note: If Jasmine depended on God to get her out of trouble instead of leaning on Mae Francis, her life would have been more fruitful.
The book provides a powerful message of healing through forgiveness. This was my favorite lesson from Nicole to her mother Kyla:
“But it just kinda feels like you did all of this work to forgive, but in God’s eyes you’re gonna get half credit. There were two people who needed forgiveness, but you only closed fifty percent of the deal. And if forgiveness is for you and not the other person anyway, then you’re only half healed.
I highly recommend The Jasmine and Sinners and Saints series. I hope VCM and RTB continue to write books together and finally tell Mae Francis’s story.
Great read! Page turner from cover to cover. Temptation: The Aftermath picks up 20 years later after Jasmine Larson committed the ultimate betrayal by sleeping with her best friend, Kyla Blake, husband. Now a changed woman and wife of a prominent Pastor, Jasmine just wants forgiveness. Tragedy brings them together after so many years, but will Kyla be able to see Jasmine for who she is now and forgive her? This novel is well written and thoroughly enjoyable. The characters are believable and you will find yourself talking to them from time to time. Although it picks up after 20 years from the initial novel, it can stand on its own.
I held my breath hoping and praying Jefferson didn't betray Kyla again! I also hoped Jasmine would be able to repair their broken bond. Hosea what a wonderful human and man of God! Mae Frances funny and resourceful as ever! This was a wonderful story of faith in God, forgiveness and the power of healing! I really enjoyed it! It took awhile to revisit these characters but it was well worth the wait! It's amazing to me when someone can honestly look beyond ones faults, to truly forgive, that's a true testament to God, how many really could forgive and move forward. Just a great novel!
The rating would be 4.5 stars, but Goodreads isn't set up like that. There was a minor issue, the chapters towards the back of the book were mis-numbered or miscounted. But any who...Victoria Christopher Murray knows how to tell a story and keep the readers reading. I was surprised that Kyla let Jasmine come around after what she'd done all those years ago. And I was shocked that Jasmine wanted to come around Kyla. Though Jasmine did what she did, she was there for her friend in her time of need. I was glad that Kyla was able to forgive Jasmine. Forgiveness is not always for the person who has done wrong, but for the person who's having the issue with forgiving.
I'm glad to see the end of Kyla and Jasmine's journey; but I'm sad to see the end of Kyla and Jasmine's journey. Victoria did an outstanding job of closing the gap left after Temptation. Jasmine is the character you love to hate but just like in Sins of the Mother, this story softens your heart towards her. This is truly a different Jasmine from the first book. She's still a work in progress but life has matured her. I'm 100% team Mae Frances but I have enough room to be team Jasmine too.
No matter what book you read of Jasmine Bush she will piss you off. After all this time and drama in her life you would think that she would learn to stop lying and making her situations worse than it needs to be. Even when she is trying to do good she makes a situation worse than it needs to be. Spoiler alert 🚨 when she went to visit Lola that was my breaking point I’m thinking why would you give this woman all this information like your the detective. Smh. You gotta love Mae Francis because she always comes in to save the day
This book was not one of my favorites at all. It was an okay read. I felt the book dragged on longer than needed to get to the end. I think I should have read the sequel of books that were before this one to understand more. I read it with my book club which made me feel i should have read the sequel. The book was really good overall with it being based on trust, faith and forgiveness. I would have liked to have heard more from Jefferson. Overall It was an okay read, must read books in order. Love this great author.
I had the pleasure of reading 'Temptation' with a group of friends when it first came out. And we all loved it! Not only did I enjoy reading this book, there were lessons to be learned and so many notes taken. Like Hosea stated in his message during Bible study, "we should all be growing until the day we die." Thank you Ms. Victoria for a wonderful book with a beautiful message.
Victoria does it again!! I don’t know what it is about Jasmine Cox, Kyla Carringon (and even Rachel Adams) that pulls me in but I do so love reading about these women and their wild lives. Lol!! I could not put this book down once I picked it up! What an AWESOME conclusion and I guess new beginning for Jasmine and Kyla whom I missed being together! LOVED this book and hope we will see more from these two in the very near future!
Victoria Christopher Murray NEVER fails to surprise me with her wonderful writing. I was so drawn in by this book that I started AND finished it on my cruise. I have grown with Jasmine through the numerous books and I'm glad she allowed these friends to become friends again and taught a valuable lesson about forgiveness. So glad I read this. Will forever be a fan of VCM. Oh and that doggone Mae Frances.........LOL
I'm glad this author did a follow up story to Kyla and Jasmine. The original Temptation book is how I got hooked on Christian fiction books. I also read the subsequent books based on Jasmine's life. This story was filled with spiritual growth, redemption, love, and forgiveness. I enjoyed this book and definitely recommend it. However, I think readers should have at least read "Temptation" first in order to somewhat grasp Jasmine's journey to the woman she is now.
I truly enjoyed reading this book. It was good to see the rift between Kyla and Jasmine come full circle. Jasmine has truly tried to live her life according to the Bible teaching. Although sometimes she must add a little flare.😂. Victoria truly develops real characters and I can't wait to read my next selection from her repertoire.
Characters are awesome and believable. Author is excellent at storytelling. Loved all of her books. Anticipate the her next work.
I loved the twists in this story. Jasmine taking charge of a situation she didn't know about. Kayla coming I go down because of Jefferson's being shot, old wounds were reopened, Mae Francis in love? Wow, but always there for Jasmine. God is always in the midst and wounds were healed. Thank you Me Christopher Murray, great read as a!ways.
The way the characters have evolved from the first novel was structured perfectly. No character was left bland in this novel. I really enjoyed Kyla’s struggle to forgive and the whole lesson behind it. Jasmine has definitely changed for the better and with that you know no matter what your past may be, you still have time to turn around for the better.
The only reason I ever put this book down at night was because my eyes got tired. In my younger days this would have been read In one day. That's how good a read it is. It brands you from the first page and doesn't let you go until the last. Bravo for this awesome book.
This is absolutely the best book I've read this year! As a fan of the original Temptation, it was great reuniting with Jasmine and Kyla. I've waited twenty years for this reunion and I wasn't disappointed. I couldn't put the book down. Victoria is the master of writing outside of the box and keeping you guessing. Buy this book today!
It was good to reflect on characters from the first book and to see changes they made over time. A Jasmine fan, I was especially glad to see her reunited with Kyla and a hopeless optimist, find myself wishing a lasting friendship, free from drama, for them and Mae Frances. The circumstances are intriguing and you will enjoy it! Get one today!
I really enjoyed this book as much as I did the first one if not more Victoria Christopher Murphy has done it again the story kept you turning pages and wanting to know what was going to happen. As always Jasmine has done it again and keeps you wondering what's going to happen next,
There were certain times that I felt I was in church while reading this novel. Forgiveness can be the key. Forgiveness is always welcomed, no matter the passage of time. I was glad that Jasmine and Kyla managed to cross the bridge they needed to. They were helped along the way with Hosea and NIcole. A great read and a great conclusion to Temptation.
I loved this book because the characters were so real. Hosea was so much like the Hosea in the Bible. He married a woman with a dark past but loved her anyway. This book deals with forgiveness, deceit, faith and trusting God in our most difficult situations. It was a rainy day so I couldn’t stop turning the page until I finished. Get your copy!!
I thought this was a very well written inspirational book the author did a very good job in writing this book I enjoyed it it was very inspirational to me it was more about having faith in God that he will pull you through every storm you may go through our God is awesome keep faith alive in your heart just keep trust in him he will see you through.
The aftermath.....forgiveness will set you free. This book allowed us to see that until we are faced with our past or with people we really don’t know if we have really forgiven. Wasn’t really sure what I expected the temptation to be in this book but realized it was more about the aftermath. Always a good read with Victoria C Murray
I was so glad VCM decided to go back to this storyline...the beginning. This story really shine a light on forgiveness. It also shows that people can change. The conversation between Kyla and Nicole was my favorite part. I was glad that Nicole was able to show her mom that she was not free and needed to forgive Jasmine. Also, it is always wonderful to read about my fav, Mae Frances.
I enjoyed this follow-up to Temptation. So much to be gleaned from this book. Infidelity and the toll it takes (even after 20 years), letting go, forgiveness, seeds of doubt, how it rains on the just as well as the unjust etc. Kayla’s daughter was a wise and spirit filled young woman that I truly admired. Pastor Hosea was his usual self, which is great thing... And you have to love Mae Francis!!
