This demon fighting business used to be so simple. Get in, use my sex thrall to dust pesky incubi and get paid the big bucks. A girl’s gotta do what a girl's gotta do.

Now there’s a Demon Child on a feeding rampage. I’ll get all the kudos if I kill him but no one’s fronting up with the cash -- and you can't eat kudos. Then the most infuriating vampire I’ve ever met wants to hire me. By the way, working for a vampire is strictly taboo.

So, how do I kill this one? Can’t use my sex thrall when he looks like a kid, silver doesn’t hurt him and stakes don’t work either. This time, I have to rely on my wits, my skills and, worst of all, teamwork! We might all be doomed.

If you like snarky vampires, snappy dialogue, and hot-blooded team dynamics, then you’ll love this fiendishly fun adventure.

Fun and enthralling urban fantasy

I’m a digital nomad (well I was until 2020 happened), although I hate that term because it makes me sound like a wanky hipster. Which I’m not. Okay, I am a bit snobby about coffee and I sometimes wear twee vintage dresses but that doesn’t make me a hipster.

On my travels, I love visiting weird and macabre places. Mummified hands that remove curses, museums of infectious diseases, collections of taxidermized frogs riding Penny Farthings - hell yeah!

Oh, and that profile photo isn't me, it's my rapscallion Bishon Frise called Hamish. Both of us highly motivated by treats.

I really had no idea that the protagonist in this book would be so rough, as in kind of punky, disorganized PI, lots of sides as in thoughts about situations and characters that may or may not have been appropriate. But ultimately I had to take this 1st person story at face value. There are a few plot holes but for this kind of book that really is irrelevant. It’s a story of a female PI who dispatches demons getting involved with a couple of vampires with lots of allusions to her sexual aura and lots of thinking about how hot others are. It’s the kind of book I think you’d really like if you were 20 or even 30 years old. I kept reading because I wanted to see how it would end. And of course the ending fits a series. I thought it was good for the style of book it is but I don’t feel compelled to read books 2, 3, 4, or 5. One of the things to put me off, and of course it’s a first person narration so you have to expect the narrator to be somewhat biased about herself, is that the protagonist saw herself as a fantastic fighter and yet when push came to shove and punch most of the time that wasn’t true. I think if she had been fantastic and hadn’t been so loopy, I would’ve probably ended up giving this book a four star rating.

Vampire meets Shades of Grey? A redo of the later Anita Blake books?

There were some things going against it. Typo on the 2nd page had me almost returning the book as I didn’t want to get invested if it was something the author sloppily rushed together in the hopes of some ebook cash (any spellcheck would have highlighted this mis-spelled word). It was followed up with 2 formatting problems that broke single words into 2 short odd lines - all in the first chapter. Amazing thing is that was it, the format and grammar of the rest of the book was fine. However, coming off those errors and right into a bit of detailed BDSM again had me doubting the author’s skill.

I did finish it, overall, the book was ok (yes, I’m being in-elegant in my choice of words). I haven’t read Shades of Grey and dropped the Anita Blake series when she went down that S&M path. It's not my thing, but obviously popular with many.

This was an easy and fast read with the action concentrating on only three characters and a pretty straight line for the plot.

I really wanted to love Demon Child and for the most part it was a fun read. I think what dragged the rating down for me was that I felt most of the characters (including Clemm) were very shallow. I wasn't at all invested in what appeared to be the romantic direction because the love interest struck me as very weak and I prefer someone with a bit more agency. Just a personal preference though.

This book was a proper roller coaster of events and emotions. There was a lot of world building and character development. The author is completely new to me, so I was not certain right away how I feel about Clem and the idea of this new world, but soon enough I was hooked.
Clem is an amazing and entertaining character and the book is narrated from her point of view. The events and dialogues are interwoven with her thoughts which are hilarious most of the time. The story is quite serious, but Clem deals with the grim reality in her own way, with inappropriate and rude humour and we get to experience the wonder of being inside Clem's mind. I had moments of uncontrollable laughter, she is so wonderful. The author truly managed to translate that wonderfulness into words.
I think what I liked the most is Clem's self image and self confidence. There is not enough description to figure out how exactly she looks like apart from being of average height and having loud red hair, which the covers did not manage to portray for some reason. There are some attempts at body shaming, which she cuts down from the start. We do know she loves cake. And she loves to eat in general. However, she is fast and strong and skilled, and trains almost regularly. So, Clem could basically look like any girl. And that is absolutely fantastic. The best part, however, is that she feels awesome and she is comfortable with herself. Clem does not use her appearance to judge herself, but her skill and actions. Her physical appearance does not define her.
There are two main male characters, vampires Nic and Kisho. There is no triangle there, but a lot of chemistry and some kind of weird friendship, or kinship in some way. Nic is a motivational speaker, very charismatic celebrity and Kisho is part of his pack. The funny conversations among the three of them had me laughing constantly. There are some interesting side characters, and of course there are the Vampire King and The Mayor.
I got sucked into the story like vacuum. I could not stop reading it. The author managed to invent a new approach to vampires and society on the verge of knowing about them. And the author managed to give a fresh approach to relationships among three people that does not involve usual competition, love triangle, threesome, or jealousy, which was quite refreshing. I am not saying that there were no emotions involved, quite the contrary as the chemistry was off the charts, but it was new and different. As a result, I started reading the next book immediately.
Reading order is: Sex Demon (Clem Starr: Demon Fighter #0.5), which is the same as Incubus (Clem Starr: Demon Fighter #0.6), Demon Child (Clem Starr: Demon Fighter #1), Moonlight Virgin (Clem Starr: Demon Fighter #2), and Vampire Prince (Clem Starr: Demon Fighter #3).

I won't rate this, as I DNFed at about 50% and it was due to not being my cup of tea.

I liked the tone and the voice a lot and was easily hooked at first, but it was the constant reminder that she is hunting for "Sex Demons" and so on. I mean the word Sex is found 92 times in 271 pages.... So for me that just way overdid it. I kept on reading until I came to this:

This guy was not someone I wanted to meet in person He was too much. Too pretty, too charming and way too hot. His broad shoulders and muscular arms contrasted with that pretty face.
I closed down the browser. Then I opened it again. I needed another look. There was no way you could take your eyes off him. He so wasn't even my type. The way he moved the way he stood, the way he spoke, was so strongly feminine yet masculine at the same time. And it all combined into a piercing sexuality.

So if that is your kind of book, by all means pick it up! The story was quick and fun enough to be well entertaining. It just isn't for me.

rcvd an advanced reader copy from the author for giving my two cents. wow...that is one word to describe this book. I couldn't put it down. it had me from the beginning and I was entralled. Clem is demon fighter extroidanire hired to kill smtg that has reeked havoc on the city... and not only that.. a vampire hired her. she needs the cash but know working with vampires is against the code. but clem is highly attracted to kisho and has a hard time keeping unsexy thoughts about him. motivational speaker Nic, is the vampire that hired clem to stop the demon child...but how do you stop the unkillable. at a rave, the demon child takes a shine to Clem aka pretty lady. clem can't see this cute boy doing all that carnage. kisho and clem manage to find the child only to hide when the most terrifying being they've encountered enters the room. clem has never seen sure evil and she knows the truth has been hidden from her. she is bound and determined to seek the truth. on top of that the mayor has hired her to extinguish the vampire problem but can she do it? will clem finally learn the truth? will she come out alive? great read!!!!

What a fun find. The blurb sounded interesting and it was full of snark, one liners and a young heroine who is blatant and in your face. What Clem thinks is what we read about. More snark, swearing, and sex references then some other urban fantasy, but it was still a great read and not full of nasty sex scenes even though Clem fights demons using her sex appeal. More light S&M and talked/thought about sex instead of graphic sex. I liked the story and the few twists that showed up. Especially liked the ending. Quite a few scenes were a hoot and made me laugh. Clem and the vampires Nic and Kisho were especially funny together. I cannot wait to read the next one to see what happens and what other trouble Clem finds herself in. OMG. OMG. OMG.

Just when I thought I was getting tired out of anything involving a vampire along comes this wonderfully superb novel.

I so very much want to be Clem, the lead in this story who is the perfect snarky, sexy, tomboy (yes you CAN be both) strong kick-a** heroine of the series. She's just ideal.

I'm not going to give a summary of the book, both because it's so wonderfully convoluted and complex, with so many things facing our poor heroine, that I couldn't do it justice and because the kindle blurb writer (clearly more talented than me) has done a wonderful job doing precisely that. Bottom line though is that this is a very (very) well written book with lead and supporting characters and a thrilling action-filled plot which are very (very very) astoundingly superb.

Highly recommended is an understatement. I'm totally hooked.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book. And I loved every minute of it!
The story was well paced, had a decent amount of action and showing us what Clem can do. The story didn’t go how I expected and that’s one of the things I liked about it. The idea of Clem using her “sexual aura” on a kid had me a little worried from the description of the book but I think the way the story went, it worked. I enjoyed the character development. Clem’s banter with Nic was hilarious. I’m still wondering what Kisho’s deal is but I’m invested in finding out. I can’t wait to hear more about what happens with Clem Starr.

Disappointing on so many levels

It started out really good with an old school Anita Blake vibe. Then she turned into an idiot, then she hooked up with the vampires and became a sex obsessed idiot. Then she continued to be an idiot till the very end of the book. The most unforgivable moment for me is a group of vampires is called a kiss--not a pack. Pack is a werewolf term. Overall, my take on the book is if a lot more research had been done then the awkward teen romance/bdsm scenes wouldn't have been needed.

Wow! This is a good story. It is very well written and has a unique plot. The characters are excellent. The story reads at a fast pace and there is a few twist you won't see coming. Lol, can't tell you or it would be a spoiler. There is no graphic sex or detailed violence, so it can be read by all. I recommend this book and series for all the vampire lovers out there. I can't wait to see what comes next. Thank you Kat for a fantastic story.

Uncaged Review: This is a fun urban fantasy with a “new-to-me” author. Clem is a strong and snarky demon hunter who is hired by vampires to take down the Demon Child – a vampire that was turned when he was just a boy with more powers than he should have. The trio of Clem, Nic and Kisho is a good one. The fun is in the banter and strange friendship that is developed between them. The action sequences kept me whipping through the pages and some of the banter between Clem and Nic will keep you smiling. My biggest gripe is, I never got a good idea of Clem and what she looked like in my mind. The cover does not do anything for the story, as Clem has flaming red hair and the cover is a blonde. The second gripe is the strange BDSM sequences. This isn’t a sex book by any means, but the couple sequences really didn’t do anything for the story, and I’m not sure why it was included.
Even with the couple of gripes I have, this is a fun urban fantasy, and I am looking forward to reading more by this author. Reviewed by Cyrene

This book was a really pleasing surprise... I am not sure what my expectations were, but this surpassed them and was a really enjoyable read, and I am sure the series will get even better as it progresses.

The heroine (Clementine) may have a sweet name, but she reminded me of a darker, edgier Buffy... More grown up and less PG rated! She is just making ends meet hunting demons (primarily sex demons) with her not so hidden talents (sex aura), when a rogue vampire causes havoc. It is hard to tell the good guys from the bad guys (the mayor - who everyone thinks is 'swell' or the charismatic Nic - a vampire motivational speaker)... but Clem is working hard to fight for good... Or at least a pay check!!

My favourite character though is Kisho... There is just something about him, getting to know him is a journey in its own right... And I can't wait to find out more in future books!!!

I received an arc of this book and have left an honest and independent review.

Fantastic read

The first thing that I was hit with was that this author tells it like it is and uses vivid language and snarky dialogue to do it. It is glorious.
Now, as I've said in every vampire book I've ever read. I love vampires. It's pretty hard for a book to go wrong with vampires in it. But, this book was all kinds of right. Clem, the main character was strong, witty, a tomboy and yet used sex as a weapon. The author did a fabulous job balancing that set of characteristics.
The vampires in the book were perfect. Everything you want in a vampire. Strong, sexy, commanding, dominating. 😍
The storyline was well thought out. It was believable in that it took place in our world with all our modern technologies, but just with demons, vampires and others. Her blending of our life and theirs was very enjoyable.
This is one of the best new finds I've read recently. I want to share it with everyone. Looking forward to the next book with great anticipation.

Clem Starr is a demon hunter who has sexual powers that can enthrall her prey. But once the Demon Child is woken up, she must join forces with vampires in order to prevent the Demon Child from committing mass murders.

I wanted to like this novel. It has a decent plot. But I disliked Clem Starr. She's a complete idiot that relies on her sex powers way too much. She also thinks she's hot stuff and knows everything about any supernatural force, including vampires.

Even the two vampires were just... meh. Sure, they didn't sparkle in sunlight, but they weren't really typical vamps either. I like twists to classic myths, but come on. They fed once and they just seemed completely human. Boring.

I found myself skimming this novel. I ranted more about how obvious certain things were that Clem was too idiotic to realize than how I felt about the book. The only reason I finished it was because I hate not finishing a book.

A total blast from start to finish. This is way better than the first two short story prequels in the series (Sex Demon and Incubus) - and they were fun.

Clem is a Demon fighter who uses high powered sex appeal to transfix demons and then dispatch them before they can wreak havoc. In this story she encounters some rather strange vampires who have weird ideas of recreational activity, a mayor who seems nice, a really cute young boy and lots and lots of coffee and cake!
I won't divulge the plot of this book but will say that there are plenty of laughs from some great one liners, some great kick ass action and a ton of obscenity. Having said this, the story does not go over the top with this. It's not degenerate sleaze, and the plot is both involved and fun with some great characters and is fast paced enough to have you reading this pretty much straight through. I enjoyed this so much I'm already halfway through book 2!

"Demon Child", follow up to the novella "Sex Demon", sees a slightly more adult version of demon fighter Clem Starr.
She's as self-centred, greedy and childish as before, but there is more sex - not that she's actually getting any of it!
A super-Vampire - the Demon Child of the title - is terrorising the city. The local vampire pack want him dead but the Mayor wants him alive. In fact the Mayor wants to out all vampires to the world and spark a war that he hasn't thought through.
Clem opts to go with the money and would cheerfully stake the little SOB except he's sooooo cute!
And hanging out with, and working for, vampires is strictly against vampire hunter code ... but their money trumps all! Not to mention that both vampires, Kisho and Nic, are incredibly hot. Clem's preference is Kisho but she is far from immune to Nic.
The book is an odd mixture of light and dark with the froth prevailing.
The finale is great fun!

An out of this world journey of fun and fantasy! A definite One Click
Clem - is the quintessential demon hunter with just a touch of kick @ss and a dash of quirk - absolutely love her character!
Nic is a self-absorbed narcissist that had me constantly on the fence between loving and hating him
Kisho - again love and hate relationship - he would flip rolls between subservient and dominant - he made me feel lust, love, and the need to knock some sense into him
This was a slow to burn book - Cotton built an excellent world with just enough background and detail to leave me wanting more but still feeling fulfilled
Entertaining and action packed with so many hidden gems within the pages
The twists that are unveiled are absolutely mind bending and so left field - and I am pretty creative

So much fun

I do so love smart mouthed, kick butt female heroines. Who would have thought a demon huntress with a sassy attitude and a super secret power would team up with a motivational vampire? Maybe pigs can indeed fly? Join Clem and this motley crew as she fights demons and tries to take down a vamp that even the vampires can't take down... Oh yea and he's a vamp that was turned while a youthful teen... Hence the name Demon Child. This book has oodles of adventure, one uber sassy female demon huntress, a grump vampire and his 1/2 vampire sidekick.... Buckle up and get ready for a really eventful ride!!

This book was a super fun urban fantasy. I looove Clem Starr as the kick-ass demon fighter who doesn't want to admit she needs people in her life. I also thought Kisho and Nic were perfect, as her slightly unwilling partners in a mission to uncover the mystery behind people being attacked in the city.

Kat Cotton has an easy writing style that made the pages fly by. When I got to the end, I was surprised to find that it was in fact a full-length novel I had just read, and not a novella.

I cannot wait for the next book in the series.

To read or not to read

The overall storyline was alright but could have been added to. It does start out slow but picks up the pace as the story unfolds. I did feel however that her fighting skills were very poor for someone who claims to be a demon hunter. I felt that the writer didn't have enough personal experience in this field to put across a main character that fights. In all, I would recommend this book for readers that like the paranormal. I look forward to continue with the next book.

Clem is kickass. She tries to live by hunting demons mostly via her sex aura, but when the Child Demon spreads havoc she must decide which team she is on.
She must find out who is friend and who is foe.
I actually really like this book, especially Clem because she has a back bone and tries to do good.

I received an ARC and I am leaving a voluntary review, but everything I write is my own opinion.

Just awful!

It's hard to say what was the bigger problem with this book, the characters, or the plot. It's one of the stupidest books that I've read in a long time. The characters all seem pretty one dimensional, and there's nothing that makes you like them or relate to them. There is no sexual tension, or strong male character in this book at all. There's some male on male BDSM that was very poorly done.

Unlikeable

The MC is unlikeable. First, she was turned on by a guy crying with welts on his back. Then it escalated when she wanted a bright blue mustang for stakeouts. Then she needed help fighting a demon when she is the “best demon hunter in the country.”

At page 76, I said to myself, I hate her. So I stopped.

This looks like it is going to be hard core BDSM. The first instance left a man crying on the floor and the WMC wanting to see more of it. Not for me.

A good start to the series. I really liked Clem although she seemed waaaaayyyyy too trusting at times. Nic and Kisho's realtionship was.....interesting. Clem and Kisho's relationship didn't advance as much as I thought it would. Clem's humor was quite funny. The banter between her and Nic had me cracking up. The whole unicorn thing was too funny. I look forward to reading the next in the series.

What an epic battle between good and evil, light and darkness, and of course that means vampires, demons, and a slayer. Who exactly is on which side is for the reader to find out and determine for themselves as they read the book. But, this is definitely a nice paced reading story with lots of action and suspense. Something Wicked Is Afoot

This was really different. At times I laughed or smiled at the antics of Clementine Starr, Kisho, and Nic. The dynamic of this group is kind of messed up.

Ovwerall it is not my usual genre but I liked it anyway.
