Modern Horseman's Countdown to Broke: Real Do-It-Yourself Horse Training in 33 Comprehensive Steps

Rate this book
It's time to get real—that is, real, do-it-yourself horse training. Professional trainer Sean Patrick has created the ultimate guide to the "complete" riding horse—whether a performance, working, or "just for fun" prospect. Quite simply, you begin at Lesson Number 33 and count your way down through the basic exercises—the "primary education"—every horse needs. And when you get to Lesson 1, you've done it; you've prepared your horse for advanced work in any number of equestrian disciplines. You can't get lost along the way. There's no room for confusion. Sean clarifies the point and explains the gist of every step. The happy result? He trains you to be a trainer. Whether your horse is a foal or five, guilelessly green or imperfectly veteran, he will benefit from the Countdown—a true "foundation" program, serving to prepare him for the endless variety of activities and "jobs" horses perform today. From indispensable handling, "sacking-out," and tying exercises, to how you, the rider, can control the different parts of the horse’s body from the ground and the saddle; from mounting on both the left and the right to performing flawless flying lead changes, you’ll be amazed at how effective and efficient this program is.

Hi,

I'm Sean, and I believe that people have far more potential than they give themselves credit for. I believe that everyone can find their calling, achieve success and happiness, and feel in control of their fate.

Through my writing, I hope to educate and inspire, to convince people to look at themselves and the world a little differently, and to be able to use these insights to improve not only their lives, but the lives of everyone they touch as well.

If that floats your boat, I think you'll like my work, and I hope you find it helpful.

Sean

Sean Patrick and I went through the John Lyons Certification program in 2014 - so I'm thrilled to see him produce such a great book. It's already got tons of great reviews that tell you what it's about and why you should buy it - so I'll just add a bit of trivia: There are several other JL Certified trainers from that very same year also pictured in the book - his wife, Alisha (who I believe he met there in the class) and Joe Schwemin. The many great photos that do such a great job of illustrating the text, were taken by Charles Hilton - the very same photographer who John Lyons himself favors for his own work.

I thought the lessons were hard to follow. This book is not for a beginner or novice rider. The way the book is written is more for someone who has already been in the training business, but is looking to go out on their own. I thought the author missed explaining to the reader the feel you should have while performing a lesson.
