Carl Waters, born and raised in Miami, Florida, grew up reading comic books and dreamed of being a new kind of superhero. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Miami and moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where he now lives with his daughter.
Waters never forgot his childhood dreams, which over the years transformed into a desire to create new heroes, particularly African-American male heroes, through writing. His debut offering is Burning Uncle Tom’s Cabin, the first book in a series that reimagines Harriet Beecher Stowe’s classic novel, featuring strong characters who break out of the old stereotypes.
Harriet, Book 3 in Burning Uncle Tom's Cabin series
An entertaining, quick read.
A previous review, submitted by Vivian Garnett on Dec. 30, 2017, contains a spoiler that, as it turns out, is incorrect. This review should be edited so as to not incorrectly inform potential readers. Spoilers, correct or not, should be hidden.
I am glad I read the book despite Ms. Garnett's spoiler. It is a glimpse into the not-so-distant past of Eliza, wife of George and a slave on the Shelby plantation.
Good book. It did leave a lot of questions at the end and not sure if this series is continuing after book three of not. It did give an alternate ending to the first book which was also good and would have taken the series in a whole other direction. Kinda wish the alternate ending would have been used for a while different series. Hope this series continues as I would love to see how George and his family turn out.
