I’m not looking for love at the Short Stack diner. Just pancakes.
I’ve been screwed over before, and it was the mother of all disasters. The only silver lining? My cute-as-hell daughter, Minnie.
Until I meet Valentine, the hot waitress serving us eggs and bacon.
She’s over-the-top gorgeous, with a body that makes me want to have her for breakfast. And when she sprays me in the face with whipped cream, her pink cheeks start to melt my frigid heart.
I can’t let her get to me. A scorching summer fling, sure…but that’s all my life can handle.
Once fall comes, we’re over.
Valentine
Waitressing is my job of last resort. So here I am, right at rock bottom.
Dumped by my ex? Check. Back in my hometown? Double check. Making a fool of myself in front of the sexiest stranger I’ve ever seen? Nailed it.
Ryder is the kind of guy I can never have. He’s sinfully sexy…and a single dad. There’s no room for me in a life like his.
He came in for pancakes, but now I’m stuck wanting his sausage.
The tension between us has to stop. Neither of us needs this…but he’s too hot not to touch.
If only someone could remind me to stay out of the kitchen…

Such a wonderfully written story that will make you laugh, warm your heart and quite likely have you shed a few tears!! Valentine and Ryder are a super awesome couple with such intense chemistry!!!! And Minnie is so freaking cute!! Would highly recommend!!
It's definitely worth a read. The storyline is engaging, and the characters (Ryder and Valentine) feel real. The romance is steamy and adds a nice touch of heat to the plot. Overall, I'd give it four stars for its captivating story and well-developed characters.
As we are well aware jumping Jack is very easy practice at home
The plot of the story pretty jumping H&h jumping on insta crush situation after a pretty traumatic experience on their life ( h was kick out by her ex , lost job and having miscarriage few months back - H ex military , left to raised her 2 yo kids and can’t afford to live in big city , anyhow who am I here to complain )
The H could fingers service h on their first date ah well ofcourse no protection whatsoever on their first encounter H treated h so badly after she baby sit his kids the whole day , no grovelling worth to talk about
Basically I have an after taste after long hours jumping jack
Ryder is not thrilled with having to come to the small town but he is doing it to get back on his feet with his young daughter Minnie. He sees Valentine right away when they stop for pancakes at a small diner, he wants her but he does not want the distraction, plus he is feeling a bit sour where women are concerned. However when Ryder moves into the cottage across from Valentine, the temptation becomes too much and they act on it. Will their newly found relationship be able to bloom or will it just be a temporary thing?
I thought this was ok but Ryder's temperament through me off a bit. Valentine was an interesting character but I felt both together were missing that extra little spark. Fun read wasn't quite what I was expecting.
I love Ryder and Valentine love story they are so great together and Ryder has a precious little daughter Minnie. I love how this story came together and put in a. Cute story telling.
I was slumping a bit and decided I needed something light, something quick to read to hopefully get back into a reading groove. A simple search through my Kindle-app had me focused on the cover of this book. I don't know why but it looked like it'd be a fun and light - and somewhat smutty - read
And it definitely was all of those things. There were a lot of hilariously awkward moments that had me snorting and even guffawing at times. Light? Check. There are some things mentioned that aren't that light and there's an event that's a bit heavier as well but overall.. It really is a light and quick read! And a smutty one. For sure. Our two main characters are very focused on the other's physical appearance so it's.. one of those typical smutty books, if you know what I mean?
Like I said, we have two main characters - Valentine and Ryder - and we get both their points of view. They switch a lot and in short periods of time which makes reading Single Dad's Waitress even easier and more gripping of a read. The moment you start wondering what the other is thinking, the POV changes and you find out. I really enjoyed that.
As for the smut.. There's definitely a focus on the sexual aspect since it seems that's all their relationship is about. In a way that's a bad thing, but on the other hand.. They don't use every chance they get to get all dirty and naked so that's a win. There's some building up, moments it simply doesn't happen and a few moments it does. But it's not too much and that's what matters most to me when it comes to "those scenes".
One very important thing I didn't like at all was how Ryder, at one point, simply leaves his two-year-old daughter with Valentine because he has something important to do. It truly was something important, but I'd never trust someone I've barely known for a month to take care of my son all day. I just wouldn't. Especially not having seen them with other kids before. There isn't really any on-page progress in Valentine's relationship with Minnie either. Something I'd definitely hoped seeing since bringing someone new in a kid's life is huge. But nope. It's something that stuck with me while reading and I still can't get over it.
The language - or the way Amelia writes, maybe? - isn't really my cup of tea. It reads fluently; that's not the point! It's all the "fuck" and "shit" being thrown around that got on my nerves. At times it was so unnecessary but it had to be added in anyway. It's not that I can't handle some cuss words but.. these weren't just "some". They were very present..
3.5 / 5
It was the read I needed - I'm more than willing to admit it - but.. I definitely had some issues with this book I can't simply gloss over to give it a higher rating for "enjoyment". If you're in need of a funny but smutty read, this is one for you. That is, if you don't mind the cussing and.. the daughter-thing.
FUN, FLIRTY, SEXY ROMP !!! Title: Over Easy (Originally Released As Single Dad's Waitress) Author: Amelia Wilde Designation: Full-Length Standalone Single Dad Romantic Comedy, NO CLiffhanger Reading Platform: Kindle Edition My Rating: Five Hilariously Sexy Stars***** I have no idea why Amazon has this book categorized as Fantasy/Action Adventure/Sports Romance. Over Easy (originally titled Single Dad's Waitress) is actually none of those things, but it is a sexy, fun, flirty, fast-paced, well-crafted, easy to follow, full-length standalone romantic comedy filled to the brim with outrageous humor, instant attraction, steamy passion, dreamy romance, an all too real small town full of quirky residents with a charming little diner named Short Stack boasting the best pancakes around, a wonderful cast of relatable and very engaging characters including a beautiful, brokenhearted, down on her luck heroine in need of a fresh start, a single dad hero with an adorable two-year-old named Minnie, and, of course, a healthy measure of agonizing angst. What's life without a little heartbreaking drama, right? The narrative is beautifully written in the first person with clearly defined his and her perspectives. The dialogue is smart, snappy, well-executed, at times hilarious, and flows effortlessly. But the crowning achievement of this sexy romp and my favorite component is the delightful cast of characters. I was immediately smitten with the two protagonists, Ryder Harrison and Valentine Carr. The lovely Valentine has come home to Lakewood to lick her wounds and mend her broken heart. She lost her home, job, and boyfriend in one fell swoop. So now, she's back at the same job she had during high school, a waitress at the Short Stack Diner, but's it's only until she gets on her feet and saves enough money to get out of town for good. Unfortunately, she had no idea her plans would be derailed by an adorable, precocious two-year-old named Minnie and a cocky, panty-melting-hot single dad named Ryder Harrison. Ryder is a handsome bad boy former soldier who has suddenly become the sole provider and caregiver for his cuter-than-cute two-year-old daughter Minnie. Ryder has moved to Lakewood to accept a job working with his brother for the summer. He has no intention of sticking around the small community of Lakewood and plans to beat feet out of town with his daughter as soon as possible. He had no interest in making friends or putting down roots, no interest in romance, and especially not a relationship. Nope, not him! However, a scorching-hot but very temporary summer fling with the beautiful, blushing red-haired waitress from the Short Stack Diner just might fit nicely into his schedule. What could go wrong? A lot actually, especially since their hearts didn't get the memo! Yup, you guessed it; they fooled around and fell in love - just like the song! But will love be enough? We'll see!
Did I like this book? Yes, I loved it! Was it perfect? No. There were a few boo-boos but nothing that truly distracted me from the story. Would I recommend it? You bet and I am but only for adult readers since it does contain explicit language and some steamy dreamy love scenes. There's no danger, violence, suspense or mayhem, but there is a boatload of laughter, adorable cuteness, heartwarming sweetness, and a whole lot of smexy fun! Will I read this author again? Absolutely! I've been following Amelia Wilde's writing career for the past year and have read several of her books but I must admit, Single Dad's Waitress is, hands down, my favorite. And finally, was I entertained? Completely! Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read!
I've read a few books by this author in the past and they are pretty fast paced and insta love with some drama. I enjoy those every once in a while.
Valentine was strong but had her own set of issues. I loved the scene where she stood up for her self. She showed her back bone and everyone took notice.
Ryker was a jerk at times but I couldn't help but really like him. His daughter was really adorable also. I would have liked to have known more about his past then what we saw.
The plot was really fast paced. I like how the small town was close nit group of people. There's not a lot o can say because it would spoil it.
My main dislike was how Minnie was shown. She was 2 year old maybe 2.5 and some of the words she said clearly and the full on sentences were a little unbelievable, unless she was super genius. But then a word like blueberry she couldn't say..... it just didn't work for me.
Overall it was a really cute story and I really enjoyed all the characters. The plot was light drama and ended in a cute HEA. 4 stars #2OCCJD
This started off so good! I just knew that I was going to love this. How couldn’t I? Single dad romance is one of my favorite tropes to read about. This was also hella funny. Like I was laughing so hard during some moment. So what happened? I’m still trying to figure it out.
While the chemistry was there, I’m trying hard to actually think of a time where this became something more than a fling. It was so focused on being just a fling and sex that I missed the moment it became more. Also, I really didn’t like Ryder for Valentine. He came off as an asshole at first and then he did somethings that I don’t think he should have.
All in all, even though this had one of my favorite tropes it still couldn’t save it for me. Also, I highly doubt I’m going to continue with this series since it’s not on KU.
Really liked this book. Ryder and Valentine's story is wonderfully written. I love Valentine's name BTW. Ryder is a great character and has a beautiful daughter. Valentine is a great woman that is just trying to get her life back together. So, of course, that is when everything starts going haywire. But Ryder just might help her with that. Great story, I highly recommend this book! I voluntarily read an advance reader copy for my honest review.
**I received this ARC in exchange for an honest voluntary review** Loved this new take that Amelia decided to write about. Something a little different from her usual work & it didn't disappoint. Insta-love story in a small town between a single father & a local waitress. Both down on their luck at the moment yet somehow come together to find what they truly needed. Full of laughs, sexiness & maybe make you shed a tear or two is what this story entails that will keep you turning the pages until the end. Would recommend :)
Amelia Wilde tried something different with Single Dad's Waitress, and it paid off. The book is romantic and funny, with some dark moments thrown in. Ryder and Valentine are both running from their pasts. They never expected meeting someone who would turn their worlds upside down and change their well laid plans. SDW is a fun and sexy read that readers will enjoy.
I have to admit when I first started reading this book I thought it would be the same ole same but that didn't hold true. This book was intriguing and sexy. Just when you think you know what will happen you will be surprised.
This was a super cute story. A woman who wants a second chance at love and a man who is a doting father (total hunk!) who has made his fair share of mistakes. The unique love story between them is enjoyable.
So sweet. I adore books like this. Sweet with a little bit of spice. A very fast read for me. I loved the characters, the exception is Conrad, Of course. and Minnie was so adorable.
This was a very cute read, with a side of steam. Ryder is definitely a hottie and Valentine is the perfect balance of innocence and sass. Minnie was just too cute! I loved how big of a part she played in the book. A good read with a little drama and sadness.
I really wanted to like this one, and I did (mostly), up until the end - which felt cheesy and too sickeningly sweet for me. They're in love after a month? Going to get married after 3 months? Bleh. Right. Sure. For me, that kind of ruined the whole story.
I really applauded when Valentine stood up for herself to both Ryder and Conrad - they both deserved the public dressing down for the way they acted! Bravo for that part! I didn't think the apology and makeup Ryder did was really that great though and then she just hops back in bed with him. That kind of ruined the standing up for herself bit for me too.
On the plus side? Minnie was adorable and such a cute part of Ryder's story! Nice seeing a single dad for a change too! And I still might continue the series as I liked some of the secondary characters - Ryder's brother Jamie and Valetine's friend Cece!
Waaaay too immature for my liking. It did have a potential but the more you get into the book, the more you get the impression that it was written by a high school girl. The lack of maturity of the characters, this instalove that I hate with passion, the very disappointing first kiss that was way below meh. It was written like it was sth unimportant, and felt exactly the same way. Last but not least, the density of Valentine (which btw sounds like a dude's name to me but whatever). She was going on a date and she was getting dressed when Ryder knocked on the door. And apparently being a brainless bimbo that she is, she forgot she was just wearing a lacy see-through bra and she opened the door like this without realizing she was almost naked. What's even better, is the fact she had to be reminded she isn't dressed because apparently she didn't know...(!!!!) I mean, wtf??? That's a big nope from me.
It was my first read from this author and I can't say I was impressed. My major concern was that I had the impression this book had been written by the classic high school girl who falls for the new guy who just arrived in town.
Speaking of "the guy", I had a hard time fallowing his mind. He was kind of an arrogant a**hole who, the first time he ever saw the h, told her in a very rude way "she wasn't going to get his number!" ... yet a few pages later he can't get her out of his mind and he is looking for a way to be near her again.
I don't know... maybe it is me. I know I am very hard to please these days and lots of romance novels I've red the past few months ended on my DNF shelf...
You know when you read a story and it flows from beginning to end and the pages turn effortlessly? And the MCs make sense and you're all in? Unfortunately for me that wasn't this story. It didn't flow, I couldn't figure out why they were together other than proximity and lack of other options.
A little unrealistic but I thought it was super cute. Super disappointed that the other book Cold Brew is not compatible with my iPhone. Come on Apple you seriously need to get it together. I’ve missed out on so many book. Boo!
Oh my! Valentine and Ryder were absolutely amazing! I loved everything about them. Plus her getting along with his daughter was sweet. So happy that they got the ending they deserved! ❤️🥞🥰
3.5 stars. Really enjoyed this story. Sweet, sweet, sweet, with a side of dirty. I always love the second chance at romance type of story. This one hit my spot😲.
This story is about, a dad whose ex-girlfriend did him wrong. The two of them, are a train wreck together, however, his daughter is everything to him. Being dad and mom, to his daughter, Minnie is what, Ryder Harrison loves most in life. It's mentally exhausting but he wouldn’t change it for the world. Nevertheless, he hates being questioned by busybodies, about his daughter’s mother. If you are lucky, Minnie will be awake when you ask. In which case, you will get the facsimile of what some may call, a smile. Others for sure will call it a dark and, ominous scowl. If you’re not lucky, and, she’s asleep or not around, ‘May the good lord pity you.’
Valentine Carr is back working at, the Short Stack. Working for, Sharon, the owner. She’s had the job since she was in high school. She had, to come crawling back because of her ex-boyfriend, Conrad Ford. She had gone off, to college with the plan, of never coming back, to town. She had built up college, so much in her head that it is, disappointing when she isn’t confident, and sure of herself. Then, when she didn’t have at least an entry-level job at a marketing firm, the bubble popped. But, when Conrad overreacted, taking, a ‘couple issue’ into the workplace, and then using his insecurities, to get her fired, so she left. It turned out not, to be an issue after all, but by then it was, too late.
The night before was rough a rough one. Like it's been different from any other lately. Ryder and Minnie have both been having trouble sleeping. Ryder being grumpy is an understatement. But, he had a little one who wanted pancakes. So, crossing the street in the little nowhere town, to the diner is his plan so, Minnie can get those pancakes. Staying in a motel is not the ideal place, to live with a toddler. But, he needs, to meet up with his brother, and basically gravel for work. When he left for, the Army years ago it, wasn't on great terms. With all that, Ryder and, Valentine are not expecting chemistry, from each other. Only furthering, to piss him off. As for her, being tongue-tied is highly unusual.
In this story, Minnie will steal your heart as does most people in the town. Ryder has a hard time believing in people but especially the women he gets involved with. He makes an assumption when Valentine’s ex rolls into town. It turns out, to be one of the worst days of his and his daughter’s life. Yet, it has nothing, to do with, Valentine, until he overreacts, to what he thinks he saw. Taking his anger out on her. See how they resolve their issues.
