Wow! What can I say?! This WORKS! I also read Mrs. Shamblin' other book The weigh down diet and I had to read this one as well. This is the answer to permanent weight loss! I have tried other things but THIS is the only thing this has worked for me! "This isn't a food problem, it's a heart problem" just one of the many things that are in here that has changed my life!!!

I needed this book as I've been wrestling with emotional eating. I liked her emphasis on the Exodus story and the parallels between the Israelites, the desert, hunger, and dependence on God, and my own life. It fits so well. It helped me to be reminded of how much I need to depend on God and not food for everything. The biggest take away is its ok to hunger for a time (fasting, waiting until true stomach hunger) so I can feel needy for God. I also appreciate her observation of the religious world's lack of calling sin for what it is and tolerating it in church. She truly has deep convictions on a real relationship with God and a repentant heart.

This book was very helpful with overcoming weight issues and seeing beyond the scale. It has scriptural through out. There has been discussions about the author, Gwen Shamlin's theology but if you read and refer back to your bible it should not be a problem for any faith based reader, and although the book contains lots of biblical references a non-believer could read it and get just as much from the books purpose--to encourage those needing help losing weight.
