“THE WAR OF JOKES AND RIDDLES” part five! Batman has done his best to keep the peace, but with neither faction backing down, he may have to choose the lesser of two evils if he wants the violence to end. Will Batman embrace the murderous anarchy of The Joker or the bloody fascism of the Riddler? If he wants to win, he’ll have to choose a side—and either way, he loses.
Does the next cover mean he will choose Riddler?! Great idea, very unique. Bruce Wayne invited both The Riddler and The Joker for dinner, to find a solution and end the war. Joker in this story feels really tame compared to how crazy he will be later on. But it's his early days, so it's fine by me. The solution does feel simple, it's not like this is the first time Batman fakes his death. But he needs to catch one of them after faking his own death somehow. He can't let them both run free. Dealing with one will be easier than dealing with both of them.
Please, leave French food alone. Those aren't in the right order, and the names aren't even the right ones. The "Entrée" one is the most hilarious one, it's the American version, not the French/European one of what an Entrée actually is (the old one is the course that's just before the first main course, and nowadays an entrée is what you'd call a starter course). I know this is petty, but it drives me nuts that writers don't do proper researches before using something they don't know shit about. It's lazy and disrespectful towards their readers. If I can't trust the seriousness of their work on a detail, how am I suppose to trust them on anything else?! It's a shame because the rest was truly interesting.
PS: while I'm at it, I feel personally victimized by the "cheese" plates and the fact they wrote "desserts" with an additional "e" jfc someone stop them!
This sit-down dinner is a good idea, and it actually entertained me all throughout the pages, forgetting the fact that Tom King did made a poor character study of The Riddler and Joker. Seriously, a smiling Joker may have given the very same effect as with this sad Joker and now I don't understand anymore why King has to remove The Joker's trademark grin in the first place.
Here's the most unnecessary but beautiful page I have seen.
Holy f**k! This is so out of character for Batman! I honestly don’t understand what’s going on here? Bruce Wayne is having dinner with the Joker and all his men on one side of the table and he’s also having dinner with the Riddler on the other side of the table. He’s trying to bring peace as Bruce Wayne and naturally nobody there knows he’s Batman??!???!?!? Man, this is just soooo bad! I gotta stop reading with this comic and skip to the next story arc! Ugh...
The Jokers facial expressions are fantastic. The character barely even needs dialog. This story has been awesome so far. I can't wait for the next issue.
Bruce Wayne invites The Joker and The Riddler along with their respective armies over to his mansion to break bread with him and decide who will win the right to kill The Batman.
This was a fun one. Bruce, Joker, and Riddler all sit down to dinner and talk about who should kill the Batman. No action in this one but good dialogue and character.
