This book was everything. I love Jace and Nova and could not wait for the follow up to their story. They are my favorite couple in this series. I love the passion between them, the love that is just so pure, the cute banter between the two of them and how they would do anything for each other. Their love just melts my heart.

Everything is great for Jace and Nova. Life is wonderful, they are in love and happy. So what could possibly go wrong? Well a lot could go wrong. In a heartbreaking twist these two have to face the unthinkable. It is something that will either bring them closer together or tear them apart. With the love that these two have for each other they should be able to get through anything. But life isn’t always rainbows and unicorns. What Jace and Nova are going through is something that will test their love in a way that will break you. I swore at that moment I kept asking why? But I know why. This story is about life, and how sometimes life will throw you a curveball that you never saw coming, taking away that happiness that you found, causing you to question if you will ever have it again. But with the love of the people around you and the love for each other, will it be enough to get through it?

This book had my emotions all over the place. Everything seemed great and happy and I loved it. Until Ms. Smeltzer threw in a twist I did not see coming, one that completely broke my heart for these two loving characters. But I think it was what came next that broke me even more. The hurt that I had for these two turned into frustration and maybe a bit of anger, for lack of a better word. Nova needed time, and Jace would give her anything she asked for and I completely understood but my God I felt like my heart was in my throat the whole time. That is what this book did to me and I loved every minute of it.

Ms. Smeltzer once again did not disappoint. Her words and writing are flawless. The twists will break your heart. She will make you fall in love with Jace and Nova all over again. She brings out all of the feels in this one. She may have broken me at one point but she put all the pieces of my heart back together again. I loved that we still got to see the other characters. They are a family and I loved that they were a part of this journey with Jae and Nova. What I especially loved was the closure that we got at the end for this series. We get to see beyond the happily ever after for these three couples that I love. Amazing job!!

I am a big fan of Micalea Smeltzer's novels. Her stories are fun and light, but can be dark here and there. The characters she creates are great and lovable, and I am always excited to read new things from her.
This year, Micalea had to deal with some serious health issues that set her back from doing what she loves: writing. I really admire her bravery and self-confidence for dealing with this kind of thing. I'm also proud of her for finding the strength and energy to start and finish Broken Hearts. This novel is the 5th and final installment in the 'Light in the Dark' series and follows, again, Jace & Nova. Fans of the 'Light in the Dark' series know that Jace and Nova have been a permanent fixture since book 1. They finally got their own story with Dark Hearts , the 3rd book in the series. But in typical Micalea style, their story shouldn't end there. There was still much to tell about this couple that she decided to write a second and final novel for them.

Jace & Nova have been through a lot and after all the obstacles they had to face and overcome, they are finally happy. But life has other plans and throws them one curveball after another. It's their biggest challenge yet, and if they don't rely on each other, they will not only lose themselves but the other in the process.

Ever since Dark Hearts, Nova and Jace have become my favorite couple in this series, alongside Rae & Cade from Rae of Sunshine (Light in the Dark #1) of course. I was excited to read more about their life and their upcoming journey. Unfortunately, that journey was not as exciting as I hoped. Up until 52%, the storyline was almost identical to the storyline of When Constellations Form (Light in the Dark #4), and that was far from exciting. Don't get me wrong, it's not that I don't like Jace & Nova. However, having to read almost the same storyline in a row, in the same series, only with a different couple is boring.
But Micalea is not Micalea, when she didn't add a huge plot twist to the story and that plot twist came after the 52% mark. I wasn't utterly shocked because I predicted something like this or similar would happen. As much as this plot twist was cruel and unfair, it was way over the top. It seems like Micalea wanted to end this book and this series with this huge dramatic bang but it felt too forced and fell flat for me.

Besides Jace & Nova, the reader catches up with Cade & Rae and Thea & Xander. It was nice to find out what they have been up to. The scenes with Thea, however, had me groan and roll my eyes. In my opinion, Thea is the most annoying, loud, selfish, mean and childish character there is. She's way over the top and knows no boundaries, and I cannot deal with her character and her behavior. The scenes with her made me cringe and I don't understand why the other characters never intervene and tell her how rude and annoying she actually is. She may think that her behavior is cute, but it is just dumb.

Another thing that bugged me was the constant repetitiveness of sentences like "It's going to be a wild ride, but what's life without some craziness" or "This is the biggest adventure we're ever going to go on, and I wouldn't want to do it with anyone else" or "But I like our crazy. It makes life interesting" or "I know it's going to be a wild but exciting ride, and there's no one else I'd rather go through this journey with". Those sentences and others are repeated over and over again in a similar way throughout the entire book. I know it's supposed to sound caring and loving, but not when you read it for the tenth time, then it gets annoying. It was the same issue I had with When Constellations Form.
I was also a little disappointed with several editing errors, including typos.

As much as I love standalones, I really love reading books in a series too, especially a series that follows different kinds of couples. It's great to see two people facing and overcoming obstacles and getting together in the end. I also love duets, because who doesn't love a good and shocking cliffhanger at the end of the first book in a duet.
Jace & Nova and also Xander & Thea had their HEA at the end of "their" book. In my opinion, Dark Hearts and When Stars Collide (Light in the Dark #2) should have been the final and happy ending for the above mentioned couples, just like Cade & Rae's story was done and final with Rae of Sunshine. As exciting as it sounds, writing follow ups with the same characters doesn't always go the right way - unless your name is J. K. Rowling and your story is about a wizard named Harry Potter. The stories oftentimes drag and are artificially prolonged by the author, and this is exactly what happened with Broken Hearts and When Constellations Form, in my opinion. As much as I want to read another book with my favorite characters, I would rather imagine their life after their HEA for myself. It's probably difficult for an author to let go of their beloved characters but it oftentimes is the smartest way to go.

Broken Hearts was definitely a disappointment for me. I really wanted to love the final book in this series, but couldn't. I have read many positive reviews for this book here on Goodreads already, so please don't let this review discourage you from picking it up. Perhaps this follow-up is right up your alley.

**********

I'm slightly disappointed. I had hoped for so much more.

I love this author so much. If you go back and read any of the reviews I have written for her books, the one thing I cannot emphasize enough is that she is so young (only 24)!!! The depth of her character development and the quality of her working blows my mind with each and every book. Of course, this book was no different (well it was different in the fact that the author was severely ill while writing it, but the quality of the writing did not suffer at all, which makes me admire her that much more.) While I absolutely hated what Jace and Nova went through in this book and more than once I wanted to throw my kindle across the room, I truly feel that their story would never have been complete without this last installment. These characters have been keeping me entertained for the last couple of years, and I will greatly miss reading about the comeraderie, craziness, and love they share for each other on a regular basis. Make sure you have the tissues handy for this book because these guys definitely go out with an unforgettable bang! Thank you Micalea for sharing your genius with us once again.

"I think you know you’ve found your soulmate when no matter how long you’ve known each other you still look at each other like it’s the first time seeing the other person."

Another beautiful story delivered by Micalea. Jace and Nova goes thru a lot to find love and in this book they go thru more tests from life, one of the hardest I would say. It really gets to me because my brother lived it too. They proved that once you feel life is not worth it and you start drifting away true love can anchor you again.

I love Jace, he's so different from the Jace in the first books, he loves fiercely and is sooo romantic even in his cursing. Nova grew up a lot too in this journey. This two deserves all the happines they can get.

Thank you Micalea for Cade's epilogue at the end. They're still my favorite couple.

Now I'm gonna say something, a lot of people is going to hate me for saying, I really don't like Thea. She turned into a very annoying person for me ever since we met her in Rae's book. Xander, I love though. Nice to get his epilogue too.

Overall this is an amazing series! ARC received in exchange of a review.

I received an ARC of this book, but before I sat down to read it, I discovered that I had only read the first two books in this series, so I hadn't read the beginning of the characters from this book's story! I quickly read the beginning of their story and then the fourth book and then sat down to read this one! I can't believe I hadn't read the third and fourth book, but I can now say that I've read all the books in this series lol! I loved this book a lot! It continued on the main characters story perfectly and it had some very sad points in the plot! I will admit that I spent the last maybe 40% full on sobbing at the plot! It was very sad and emotional, but then there were bright points as well! The plot also only took me a few sittings to read and kept me wanting to read on to find out what was going to happen next! It ended beautifully too and I did spend the first half of the book grinning like an idiot lol! The characters were again amazing and made this book even better! Nova was again the main female character, and in this book she had come a long way, but she also went through a lot in this book too! I'm trying to watch what I type because I really don't want to spoil anything! My heart broke for Nova in this book because she went through a tragic situation and she was left feeling guilty and she lost herself! Nova went through a lot to find herself again and all I wanted to do was to wrap her in a massive hug! She deserved peace and love, but she had to go through a lot to get it! Jace was again the main male character and love interest of Nova! I loved Jace a lot in the third book in this series, so I was really excited to read more on him! Jace was again seriously hot in this book and he was the perfect book boyfriend! He had also come a long way from the third book in this series and he was happier! At least for the majority of this book! My heart went out to Jace in this book too because he went through the same tragic situation as Nova! It really broke Jace and I completely respected him for giving Nova space, even though he tried to help her and stay strong for her! I loved that this book was written from both Nova and Jace's point of views! Their other book was written from dual point of view, so I was hoping that this book was going to be too! I'm really happy that it was because it again helped me connect and understand Nova and Jace more! It allowed for more things to happen in the plot too! I'm also really sad that this book is the final book in this series! I'm not 100% sure if it is the final book, but there was an epilogue for each couple to sum up their story, so I'm assuming it is lol! I will miss the couples in this series a lot, but I can't wait to see what this author is going to release next! I know it's going to be amazing, so I'll definitely be reading it as soon as it releases! I love the cover for this book a lot! It suits the book perfectly and is so pretty! I also didn't think that this cover had the same cover models as the third book does, but they are the same! The cover image suits the feel of the book and the models definitely suits the characters of Jace and Nova! Big thank you to Micalea for an ARC of Broken Hearts!

Micalea is one of my go-to authors and I have loved all of the stories that I’ve read. I was giddy when I found out there was more Jace and Nova. I couldn’t wait to dive into it. Jace and Nova have been living such a great life- for them. For two people who were dealt such bad hands when they were younger and didn’t think they deserve love, it was awesome to see them thrive and have their loving relationship. They were what each other needed and I loved seeing them together. But as they embark on the next step in their relationship, tragedy struck. It was so heartbreaking to read what they were going through. I wanted everything to be alright. I was interested to see how their story would go. I love Jace and Nova-they were such magnificent characters. They were real. That’s what I love about Micalea’s books-everything about her characters and storylines are so relatable. And it was great to see the friendships between the characters in this series. There were moments that had me laughing and some that were heartwarming. I enjoyed this book from start to finish. Overall, an awesome read! I loved this book (and series). Can’t wait to see what is next.

This is the story of Jace and Nova that we first met in Dark Hearts. In Broken Hearts it's the continuation of their journey. My belief is that if the readers have not read Dark Hearts, I would say it's safe to start Broken Hearts because the author does a recap.

This is were I had a difficult time to get into the story. I had already read the first book with this couple so it was a slow easing back into it. About midway there is a major heartbreaking twist that shattered me so bad, I had to walk away from the story and go do something else. Trust me get ready for it.

This is a beautifully written story that will make your heart sing and weep at the same time. It's about being together and sharing feelings in a moment of despair.

This story is book 5 the Light in the Dark series. Told in a dual POV with a great HEA. All of this author's books are all worth the readers precious time and money.

I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book.

Broken Hearts is the continuation of Jace and Nova's story, which started in Dark Hearts. For the past five years, Jace and Nova's lives have been perfect. When they decide to start their next chapter of their lives tragedy strikes, leaving the couple trying to cope and live on. Broken Hearts is a story of love, tragedy, acceptance, family, and coping. I loved reading how Jace and Nova work through everything and how much they loved each other. Seeing their friends Thea, Xander, Rae, and Cade rally around them and be the family they need was a joy. Broken Hearts is the last book in this series and it did not disappoint. The epilogues were sweet and I loved seeing a glimpse into everyone's future.

I've been dying to read this book since Dark Hearts came out. And all the teasers Micalea posted definitely didn't help. Jace and Nova are probably my favorite couple of this series. Reading this book was like waiting for a bomb to drop. You know it's coming and you know it's going to be big, but you don't know when or how much worse it really is going to be. It kept me on my toes the entire time, and I'm pretty sure I cried the entire last half of the book. And I love every minute of it. I've been in a book funk and this is just what I needed to pull me out. Micalea's books never fail to make me feel all the feels.

i was extremely fortunate enough to Beta read this book for my very good author friend Micalea and it was everything that I could have asked for these characters and this series. the events will definitely break you down but the build back up is outstanding and it wraps up this incredible series in such a way that you just want to bring everyone in for the biggest group hug and then start reading the entire series from the beginning.

There aren't even words to explain the range of emotions I felt throughout this book, that saying "all the feels" doesn't even cover it. It was more than feels, this book you could feel down to your soul. The love between Jace and Nova, the love of their friends all of it, it's something that will stay in my heart for a very long time.

I really liked this novel. Jace and Nova are my favourite couple in this series, so I was excited to read the follow-up novel to their story. I love the passion they have for each other and the purity of their love. They would do anything for each other. They are soulmates and best friends.

The story begins and the couple is doing great. They’ve been together for years and couldn’t be more in love or happier. Jace is ready for the next step in their relationship. While neither believe in marriage, Jace is longing for a baby. Jace and Nova agree that now is the right time for them to try and while it takes some time, they finally get pregnant and are ecstatic. Then, the unthinkable happens, and it’s something that will bring them closer together, or tear them apart.

The love they have for each other is tested in this novel. Sometimes life throws you curveballs and will take away the happiness you’ve found, and make you question if you’ll ever find it again. I loved this story, and I was so happy for them. I didn’t see the twist coming. My heart broke for these characters, and I didn’t anticipate what came next either. It broke my heart even more. I was frustrated for the characters and a little angry. Nova needed time away, and Jace would give her anything she wanted, but my heart broke for him, too. I hated to see him hurt the most. I didn’t how they would reconcile, and I felt like I was on the edge of my seat the whole time they were apart.

I loved every minute of this story. It was emotional, raw and real and something that happens to many couples out there. Micalea makes you fall in love with Jace and Nova all over and gives you the best of what makes them the couple they are together. I love what Jace did for Nova afterwards with Cade and Xander helping. It was so thoughtful and so perfect for her. Lastly, I loved all the epilogues. They were the perfect endings to a great series. These characters are a family and support each other through anything. This is the first series I’ve read from Micalea. I loved the new adult and emotional feel to her writing. I’m excited to read more from her in the future and meet more of her characters. She may eventually become a favourite of mine when it comes to emotional romances.

Jace and Nova are my favourite characters in this series so I was excited to have another book of theirs to read.
I’m so mad at their so called friends reaction to their exciting news in the first half of the book. They were all so negative just because Jace and Nova both don’t want to get married. At least they didn’t get drunk and married like Thea and Xander. And speaking of Thea, each book in the series makes me dislike her more.

Anyway back to Jace and Nova. This story was so heartbreaking, especially since having been through something similar. It stirred up all kinds of emotions in me and I just wanted to reach through and hug them both. My heart broke for Jace not being able to really process his own grief because he was too worried about Nova. This was well written and I loved seeing the characters grow.
This was such a great way to end the series.

Awesome ending to a great series

I reread Dark Hearts earlier today to prepare myself for Broken Heats and am glad I got to remember the friendship and live between Nova and Jace. This book was fantastic and sucked me in, luckily I have a kiddo who knows when mommy is in the reading zone! The challenges those two went through were awful, but love pulled through. Way to go Micalea, keep it up girl!

Amazing

Hmmmmm. I'm not sure how my review completely disappeared but it did, so I need to apologize for that.

This book was very very good. I'm so in love with Jace- he's the ultimate. Such a huge transformation from when we first met him, but he couldn't be more perfect. Nova... Well let's just say I almost stopped reading this book because of her for just a minute. A minute... That's all but still.

This book just goes to show you that love has some major caverns that need to be climbed from to get what you deserve from it. This author made us do that a few times in Jace and Nova's relationship. I'm glad I read this book. It's the end of the end for everyone, which is why I read it, but I wasn't sure I could get through it. It's so emotional and beautiful that it is worth reading. I promise you won't regret it.

Micalea Smeltzer serves up one seriously angsty sequel to Jace and Nova’s story with Broken Hearts. Picking up shortly after Dark Hearts left off, Jace and Nova are living their happily ever after when life throws them a series of curveballs that would change their relationship forever. My heart ached and soared and sang and shattered as I experienced this journey alongside the couple. Micalea Smeltzer definitely didn’t pull any punches, putting Jace and Nova through the wringer repeatedly over the course of this story. Through it all, their electric chemistry and significant connection continued to outshine the darkness, bringing a much-needed sense of hope to an otherwise emotional rollercoaster. This couple continued to captivate me with their delightfully snarky banter and unexpectedly sweet moments, ensuring that I was once again riveted to this novel from start to finish.

Jace and Nova both go through some serious growth as their story progressed, surprising me at every turn with their strength and incredible resilience. I loved seeing this couple come unhinged, even if it meant completely obliterating my heart in the process. There was something so beautiful about their unmistakable vulnerability. Both characters felt utterly raw and undeniably genuine, making it easy to relate to their heartache and invest myself further in their journey. While I definitely found myself cursing the author a time or two as I read, there was no doubt that this couple had the kind of real, gritty and unapologetic love that would see them through any storm. The obstacles Jace and Nova faced in this book only served to further the depth of their connection and left me with no choice but to fall harder for this duo than ever before.

I absolutely adored seeing more of Cade, Rae, Thea and Xander – their presence and role in the story giving Broken Hearts that overwhelming feeling of family I’ve come to love from this collection of colorful characters. Although decidedly darker than previous books in the series, Broken Hearts managed to capture all of Micalea Smeltzer’s signature sass, sizzle and sweetness. This book made me laugh and cry and swoon, guaranteeing that my heart wouldn’t be the same by the time all was said and done. From the enchanting writing to the whirlwind pacing, everything about this story was perfect for Jace and Nova. The world Micalea Smeltzer has so effortlessly brought to life with this novel is vibrant, breathtaking and overflowing with heart-stopping emotions. Topped off with the kind of epilogue that leaves your heart bursting at the seams, Broken Hearts is a powerful and stunning conclusion to Jace and Nova’s epic, must-read romance!

Perfect ending

“I know the storm might feel like it’s far from over, but the sun always shines again, Nova.”

Perfect ending to perfect series. Your heart really hurts in this book but thankfully it does get put back together. As always all the characters are awesome and make each of these books great, along with this last one.

Harry clears his throat and fiddles with his tie, his face growing increasingly red. To Jimmy and Sarah, he says, “I’m terribly sorry. Novalee has always been unstable.” I gasp. I want to throttle him. Everything that comes out of this man’s mouth is a fucking lie. I guess that’s why he’s such a good politician. Sarah tilts her head, appraising him. “Funny, because I’ve now known Nova for … what? Five years?” She turns to her husband and then back to Harry. “And I’ve never, not once, found her to be unstable.” She throws his word back to him. “You, on the other hand, this is our first time meeting and I could say the same about you.”

One of my favorite things is how Thea bugs and annoys Jace, and how they always tease and pick on each other. I just laugh at some of the things Thea says or does at times it's so funny. And even though, Thea can be the way she is towards Jace she really does care about him like a sister and if anything was wrong or if something bad happened she'd really be there in a heartbeat for him and Nova both and would do anything for them. So what are you waiting for, this is definitely a must read.

I bounce Xael in my arms and she lets out a giggle, smacking my chest. “Look, she wants to get away from you,” Thea jokes. “She’s definitely my daughter.” “Are you kidding?” I scoff. “She’s showing her affection.”

His phone dings, and he groans. “I swear to God I’m going to throw that psycho off a cliff or change my number, one of the two.” I laugh. “Thea?” “Yes,” he mumbles, looking at the text. “What’d she say?” “She keeps sending me these idiotic jokes; are you ready for the latest?” I nod. “Brace yourself.” He clears his throat. “’ How many South Americans does it take to change a lightbulb?’” He waits for me to get the punchline, when I don’t, he continues. “’ A Brazilian.’” He shakes his head. “The girl is a nut, I swear. She lives to torture me.”

A little about the book: Broken Hearts is the last book in the LITD series and the continuation of Jace & Novas's story, I'm so happy we got another book about them, I love them as a couple! The way everything was unfolding was... simply PERFECT (Shh, no spoilers!). This book will give you ALL the feels, guaranteed!

What is there else to say?! Quite simply this book is a must-read of 2017!! Well done, Micalea!

This book was so gut wrenchingly painful but heartwarming at the same time! Loved the story, so darn cute. And pregnancy romance books where the couple already are head over heals for each other from the beginning is my favourite.
I just wish we got to see more of their characters, more of Jace doing something with his music other than just stating that in the epilogue.
And the FOUR EPILOGUES! Pure bliss!

DEFINITELY RECOMMEND! Get some tissues ready...

**I received a copy from the author for an honest review.**

This is the fifth book in the Light in the Dark series. Recommend reading books in order.

OMG! This book is superb! Definitely won’t be let down!

This is Jace and Nova’s story. Life sure has it bumps in the road.
