Cape May #3

What She Needs

Rate this book

Devon Mason and Con Walker are sexy, honorable, loving, and completely devoted. In other words…perfect. And what do you buy two perfect men for Valentine’s Day? But when Con surprises her with a weekend in Cancun, Tory is excited—until she realizes Devon wasn’t included. What she thought was the answer to her dilemma is now a nightmare.

It’s Con’s turn to take control. After all, Devon got Christmas. And what could be more perfect for Valentine’s Day than a romantic getaway in Cancun? Except Devon has other plans—for Aruba. He’s been happy to share Tory with the guy he considers a brother, but his protective instincts are kicking in. The deeper Con falls in love, the harder it is to keep from ripping Tory away from Devon.

Sooner or later something—or someone—is going to give.

The sequel to What She Craves, which began on Christmas Eve, picks up nearly 2 months later, as the happy ménage trio of best friends Con Walker, Devon Mason, and Tory Jeffries near their first Valentine's Day together. Lately, the dark and intense Con has started to have jealous feelings when Tory is with his best buddy, the more laid back Devon--he wants her all to himself! He plans a surprise Valentine's getaway for the trio without consulting Devon. Devon is miffed--Tory is his, too! Shouldn't they be sharing all decisions regarding Tory? Devon and Con need to work out their feelings of possessiveness and jealousy or this happy ménage is going to be over before it barely started, since Tory loves both of her hunky lovers and will not give up either of them!

Not bad. Certainly hot enough. Just wish there was a bit more detail, besides the sex scenes. I'm still not sure what the wealthy Con and Devon do for a living, except that maybe it has something to do with the stock market? Somehow this fact is eluding me!:)

If you've read What She Craves, you'll want to follow up with this one. It does portray a realistic vision of what must go on in these happy little ménages. I would imagine that hurt feelings, jealousies, and possessiveness play a large part...it can't all be utter bliss! 3 1/2 stars

Start to finish smexing, but this one delved into whether the guys could actually share her on a regular basis. As one of the guys said, the green-eyed monster started to raise it's head and was causing problems with both of the guys. I'm not sure something like that could be worked out as easily as it was written, but at the same time, I think the feelings are probably natural. I'm not sure why Con's background was an issue at all, but I guess we learned a bit more about him. It seemed like filler though -- it didn't really play into why he was suddenly jealous. Whatever... still good three-way smexiness!

What She Needs is book three in Anne Rainey’s Cape May series, and the second book to feature Con, Devon and Tory. This is a look into a relationship that is not the norm even for modern society, but it has been one that works for these characters.

What does a woman in a committed ‘threelationship’ give her men for Valentine’s Day? That is the question bothering Tory as she tries to decide what to give Devon and Con. When Con surprises her with a weekend in Cancun for the three of them, something new is added to their triangle-a hefty dose of jealousy. Seems Con didn’t discuss the trip with Devon, and soon the tension is building. If Con can’t get over this new streak of possessiveness, it could cause major problems. He and Devon have been friends since childhood, and he doesn’t want to ruin what they have with Tory either. Can these three find a way past the jealousy and anger, to a new understanding? Can Con and Devon come to some kind of mutual agreement concerning their love for Tory? Can these three save their unconventional love, or will they bow to the norms of society?

I like how Ms. Rainey doesn’t portray it all as smooth sailing for these three. In any relationship, there are ups and downs, and when you add in a third personality, things are bound to get tense from time to time. I also found the actions and reactions of all three characters to be realistic and true to their personalities.

Tory is a great character, strong-willed and determined to make this ‘threelationship’ work. She can’t imagine her life without both Con and Devon in it, and will do what it takes to save what they have. She isn’t afraid of what others say, and she has a bit of sass in her. I like that about her.

Con and Devon are both hot and sexy, and neither wants to ruin what they have with Tory. Con didn’t even realize he was jealous until the ‘green monster’ reared its ugly head. I love how these two men complement each other, like two sides of the same coin. I liked that they both want to save their friendship, along with their relationship with Tory, and try to work out a mutually satisfactory solution that they can both agree to.

I enjoyed watching the two men come to terms with the jealousy they both feel, and the mature solution that Devon comes up with. Does everything go away and become perfect for Con, Devon and Tory? No, but just like in real life, a good compromise is reached, one that will ensure a happy ever after for all three of them. What do they decide? You will have to read What She Needs to find out.

I enjoyed the fact that this is a follow up Devon, Con and Tory's story and it shows the jealousy that could erupt. I love the descriptions of the emotions Con and Devon go through.

Just because I am a fan of epilogues, I would've liked to have seen an epilogue, showing Summer & Gage and Tory, Devon & Con, a few years down the line, maybe settled into marriage and possibly kids. With Con, Devon and Tory I feel like their HEA was more of a HFN.

Okay, this is truly annoying, the story picks up where the one before ended, so why not just make one a little longer book instead of two? Couple months in, surprise, there is jealously on the part of the men, because they have to share, so what to do? Apparently, deal with it and live happily ever after, because being with the girl alone is worse then feeling anger towards your buddy
I don't think I'll be reading this author anymore, very annoying!

Having read the three books in this series I must admit that I did enjoy them, but they were far too short for the $2.50 being asked per book. I find that price extremely expensive for such short novella's, Especially the 2nd book in the series. I also found that the ending were very abrupt.

Her new series Blackwater, are longer and extremely good. I will continue to read this series.

I rather liked this one better than the previous because it shows that not all is always easy and smooth in such a trio relationship. The way they solved their dilemma was however a bit disappointing and almost felt like cut short once again.
It would also gain from being further developed.

Another short, hot read that continued with the same trio from the second book, What She Craves.
