cute, predictable, & annoying AF

Faking It is about a lie that eventually becomes the truth. Allyson "accidentally" lies to her family that she's dating her boss. Dane, her boss, somehow finds this out and agrees to be her pretend boyfriend. This book was so freaking cliche but it also kind of ticket me off as well.

So Allyson, she seems so nice but her family was horrible. So what if she didn't go to college or whatever.. That doesn't mean she's dumb or anything. Tons of people don't go to college or even finish it. Then there's the whole wedding she's going to and the need for her to lie. Ugh, I still don't understand why it matters to people about who gets married first when it comes to siblings. I honestly don't give a flying fuck if I get married before my two older siblings or if they get married before me. To each their own. You do you.

Well family just doesn't suck for her.. no Dane has a terrible mother. Ugh, I hated her so god damn much. Besides all of that, it's like these two sucked at making decisions. It was frustrating to keep track of everything. I hate both families so much that I felt bad for these two kids.

Overall, it was meh. I doubt I will dive into the other books right now.

I actually enjoyed this book a little more than I thought I would. The plot is different than most romance books. The cliffhanger got me. I really have to continue reading the series now.

Although Faking It is the first book in the Fake Billionaire series, I entered the book believing there would be a conclusion in this one. Sadly, I was mistaken. This book ends on a cliff-hanger, so much of the story still being open. The blurb of this one had me believing there would at least be a conclusion, the page number more than enough for these kinds of stories, but I was mistaken. Had I been more interested in the story, I may have continued on, sadly there was not enough about this one to make me want to read the rest of the series – because, honestly, we can all work out where Temporary CEO and Caught in the Act will take us.

In all honesty, Faking It was more of a two-point-five star read. I was feeling nice when giving this one a rating, and due to that I admit to giving it a three star round up rating when I may not have done so at other times. It wasn’t that I disliked this story, simply that it did not pull me in as much as I had wanted it to.

Like many romance fans, I’m a lover of the billionaire trope. Such stories should feel repetitive by now, and yet I’m still pulled in and finding myself new addictions. I was hoping Faking It would provide such a story – one I could become lost in – yet I found myself unable to connect throughout most of the story.

There were certain elements of the story that did interest me, but it was hard to enjoy these aspects when I did not like the main characters. I could not connect with either of them, which prevented me from losing myself in the story. It wasn’t a dislike of them per se, more so an inability to care about them. There was nothing to make them stand out, and what could have been a wonderful play between the two of them felt smothered by the speed at which events played out. Rather than allowing things to develop, we were thrown straight in without any real feelings growing – then, we jumped from one extreme to the other. Such a thing can work, if there is feeling behind it. Unfortunately, words that could have been used to create emotion were used to reiterate what had happened in the prior chapters – an unnecessary element of storytelling when a book is this short.

I admit, there was potential for this one; sadly, it failed to deliver.

Allyson starts the lie about dating her boss to her parents. Dane finds out, and wants to go along with it to help her out. She's always been of interest to him and he could use the time away for the weekend, so why not. They'll do something really smart, like sign a contract to keep from sleeping together. And then store that incriminating evidence in a safe spot, like a purse. It would be a terrible lie to get caught in because he's a billionaire and the tabloids will have their eyes on him. His mother is controlling him, and trying to fire Allyson from her job. Allyson has a terrible family anyway, so screw them all if they found out.

Short, entertaining and smutty. I liked both of the characters. Slight annoyance over Allyson even being bothered by her parents pressure to "start dating someone". But it's obviously important to the storyline.

Welcome to another episode of 'What was I thinking went I purchased this 5 years ago'

I'm really tying to make an effort to read books that have been sitting in my library for years and picked this little number to break up another violent book.

It started off fun. Who doesn't love a fake relationship trope. But then it just repeated itself which became boring.

I'm so torn on this book that I don't know what to rate it... I'm just gonna write this review and see how I feel at the end...

This is the story of Allyson who is the personal assistant to the sexy, rich, Dane. She is a headstrong female who actually has basically the whole world against her. Her family thinks she's not good enough. She didn't go to college and her younger brother is getting married before she is. So to her family, she's basically a waste of space. So to not have to deal with their condescending asses when she goes to her brother's wedding she makes up a tiny white lie that she's dating her handsome boss. Naturally her family eats it up. But Dane ends up finding out about it and agrees to pose as her boyfriend so she doesn't have to be treated horribly by her family.

When they go to the wedding, Allyson's soon to be sister in law, Holly, asks Allyson to put the dress on so Holly can see how the dress looks while in motion. And of course, somehow someone gets a picture of Allyson in the dress standing next to Dane and the press goes wild with the information and claims they got married. So Allyson's white lie turns into this elaborate scheme that they end up pretending they're married for the entirety of the book.

But of course there are twists and turns. Dane's mother is a conniving, heartless bitch. There is a lot of pressure on Dane's shoulders to make a merger happen between his family's business and another. Plus, Dane's ex is a constant reminder for the two. And his ex happens to be a part of the family who Dane's company wants to merge with.

So much happens! Literally so much. There is so much back and forth. So many lies. So many times Dane and Allyson changed their minds that I seriously couldn't keep track of wtf was going on... I seriously felt like I was getting whiplash. And because of all of that I don't know if I liked this book enough to go on with the series. Especially because I'd have to buy them... I'd defintiely continue if they were on Kindle Unlimited. But I don't want to read another book if it's going to be so much like this one that I couldn't keep everything straight.

And I guess I have to rate this... 2 stars. -.-

Beware...Cliffhanger

I really, really dislike when an author puts out a book and (1) it's a cliffhanger, (2) the last 20% to 30% of the "book" are blurbs and ads for the writers other works. Not cool, Ms. Timms, not cool at all. Also, a good editor would come in handy, you called the main character by the wrong name at the beginning of chapter 7. That is just laziness.

Wpw what a read!

The heroine lies to her family about daring her very hot boss who she has been lusting after for a very long time.
Dane discovers the lie and decides to go with her to her brothers weddimg that weekend.
We meet her family who are horrid to her.
The twists and turns keep coming. The relationship between the two is interesting. And very fiery. Love the witty exchanges. At the beginning it seems as if the heroine is very docile, shy and quiet but she blossoms and turns into a beautiful and confident yoiung lady. She has insecurities from her upbringing and he has too with regard to how he sees the world.
The book ends on a cliffhanger. Can't wait to read the next installment.

There were some really funny moments in this books but also others that were a little lacking. I did not like Danes mother at all. She seemed very snobby, stuck up, even vindictive. Danes character was okay. I think he was written as the common rich man still living in his parents shadow and expected to do whatever to up their family name and definitely not anything that could tarnish their name. Allyson is a driven employee who works hard to prove herself not only to her boss but her family as well. It seems the poor girl cannot catch a break with them about marriage so what better way than to have her boss play her 'boyfriend' for her brother's wedding? Now things dont go according to plan and now they are stuck deciding how to handle the situation when it develops into a fake marriage.

Cliffhanger! I won't say I hated this book it did have some good moments and overall I liked Dane and Allyson. My only problem was Dane was too quick to jump to conclusions and think the worst of Allyson. Allyson was too quick to forgive for the cruel things he said too IMO (in my opinion). I think if Dane could believe that easy that Allyson was using him to get money his words spoken so sweet the night before were pointless.

Once the truth is revealed and he degrades Allyson's credibility how could she think so quick to save the company to keep her job? Why would she want to work so close to a man she loved but who thought so little of her? It just made their relationship seem so shallow IMO. It sounds like I didn't enjoy but even with the problems I did like the confidence that Allyson had at times. While she is referred as BBW It is hardly mentioned .

That's not a bad thing sometimes it is over dramatized so it was enough to mention. I wish it wouldn't have ended in a cliffhanger though. Sometimes it's enough to be a standalone.

Warning: big cliffie

Ok, so I started out enjoying this. I mean I was all in it, invested from the beginning. Unfortunately it stopped at 78%. Just stopped! I don't like how authors split their books nowadays and this ending really upset me. I liked Allyson, who is loyal and strong. I loved Dane, until he became wishy washy. The storyline was interesting and like I said pulled me in from the beginning, but that sudden end ruined the whole thing. Not sure I'm going to finish the series if this is how each ends up.

Lexy did it again! The saying by Walter Scott...what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive...is the only way to describe this story.
Allyson Smith told her family a little white lie, which managed to explode into a horrendously gigantic mess!
Crushing on her billionaire boss was one thing, but telling her family they were dating wasn't the smartest thing she had ever done.
Dane Prescott was hiding feelings for Allyson also, but now it has gone to far!
Both sides of his family were from very "old money" and Allyson just wasn't from their world.
I can't say any more without revealing their secrets and spoilers, just realize you absolutely need to read this story!!

I had a really difficult time with this one. I wanted to like it. It started off interestingly enough, but as the story progressed I wanted to smack them all. Dane and Allyson changed their minds so much I think I have whiplash. It was just frustrating and of course, ended on a cliffhanger. I didn't feel like it was a full enough story to warrant one.

I barely muddled through the audio version. Verity Burns as a narrator was horrible (I feel awful about saying it, though). Overlooking the fact that the accent was wrong for the story, she was boring. She has a monotone reading voice and a few odd things that bothered me (such as the "r" sound pronounced as a "w", it's nitpicky of me and maybe that's how it's pronounced where the narrator is from, but it made it difficult to follow the story).
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

Wow! This book totally disappointed me. I was totally into it too. It was a page-turner that I didn’t want to put down. I started it late in the evening and stayed up till five in the morning reading. Still at 76% so had to go to bed.
I reach for it in the morning determined to finish it and to my disappointment and anger, I had only about a page and a half left the rest was teaser chapters for another book she was peddling for another series the author has. Like I would read or buy a book from what I now have found out is how she ends most of her books in CLIFFHANGERS!!!
Nowhere in the synopsis/blurb does it say CLIFFHANGER. I hate when authors do this to readers. Not to mention the next five books deals with this same relationship for all five books. Meaning five more CLIFFHANGERS.
I like this couple too. You had Allyson who works with Dane the billionaire. And after three years of working together, they speak to each other as humans, not employee and employer. The chemistry, that was able to be allowed out finally after so long working close together is so hot. Allyson is Dane’s personal assistant. He trusts her like no other. The only other person in the world he trusts more is himself.
But at the end of an all-day wine and dine sight-seeing day with clients she makes a fatal mistake and betrays his trust. He is not happy. But he gets why she did it. He understands family pressure and agrees to be her fake boyfriend for her brother’s wedding. But she panics because she didn’t ask. He hijacks the weekend accommodations and takes her to the weekend.
The weekend gets leaked to the press and the fake relationship gets bigger and more out of control. The funny is funny, the sex is hot, and the pain is felt deep.
Here is my decision…
Did I like her writing? Yes: 1 star
Did I enjoy the characters and the storyline?
Yes: 1 ½ star
Did I like the CLIFFHANGER? NO! 0 stars
Did I like that the author wasn’t honest with the reader about IT BEING A SERIES OF CLIFFHANGERS? NO! 0 stars.
So, let’s tally this up 2 ½ stars. So, I always round up and since I have to admit that up until the end, I enjoyed this author’s writing I am giving this: 3 stars. Free on Amazon. Follow us on www.1rad-readerreviews.com.

Faking It
Fake Billionaire Series, Book 1
By: Lexy Timms
Narrated by: Verity Burns

This is the first book in Lexy Timms’ “Fake Billionaire” series, I enjoyed her writing style and the interesting storylines she created. They grabbed my attention right from the start and captivated it straight to the end and what an ending it is!!! The character are likable and easy to relate to, my heart went out to Allyson, she is constantly be verbally beaten by her parents and bitch of a sister. So she does a foolish thing and makes up a story that she is dating her rich boss. Her boss, Dane Prescott, finds out about this lie and agrees to be her date for her brothers wedding. The two hit it off, she always crushed on Dane and it seems he has a soft spot for her as well. When one lie leads into another they both get in deep, with her family, his family and even business partners. Dane’s world is a cut throat world but Allyson can stand up to the best of them. I admired her strength and ability to think on her feet. Dane disappointed me when he jumped to conclusions, but redeemed himself when he looked out for her best interest even if it meant pushing her away. Lexy Timms fit an impressive amount of story into this book, it is well plotted and there is never a dull moment, with plenty of drama, some angst, twists and turns, some heartfelt moments and some hot ones. Thank you for this great story, I am looking forward to what comes next for Allyson and Dane in the next book of the series, “Temporary CEO”.

I listened to the Audible edition, Verity Burns is a talented narrator and voice artist. She does a nice job bringing the characters and their story to life. Her portrayal of the characters is spot on, she captures and project their emotions it into her performance. She is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for the great listen🎧

Let's face it, billionaires in romance books tend to have many of the same characteristics. They're ruthless, rude and downright nasty.

I was pleasantly surprised with Dane Prescott. Sure, he is a workaholic. And yes, he does have the requisite revolving door for all the women in his life. Although up front we are introduced to a man who genuinely likes his assistant Allyson. He is attracted to her but apart from that, he shows her kindness and compassion and offers to help with a fake relationship.

Allyson Smith may have a crush on her boss but she's smart enough to keep her personal and professional lives separate. She is intelligent, an asset to the company and displays no TSTL moments. Refreshing!

Dane and Allyson's relationship is somewhat of a rollercoaster ride as they try to outmanoeuvre their respective family's machinations - be it trying to keep them together or keeping them apart. Additionally they question themselves and each other as they determine whether they are right for each other. Even with uncertainty around them, I appreciated that they did communicate. The messages were not always the hearts and flowers variety but they were real.

At just under 5 hours, the book kept me pleasantly entertained for an entire afternoon.

Verity Burns narrates this book. Her British accent was pleasant to listen to and both male and female parts were distinct. I did feel that the narration was at times too soft-spoken. I also found the first few minutes difficult to get into because I felt the speech bordered on the monotone. Overall, it was a good narration and I would be happy to listen to another of Verity's narrations.

I was given a free review copy of this audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.

What started as a small lie, turns into more lies and potentially can end a business and friendship...

Allyson Smith has been working as the PA to Dane Prescott for a couple of years, when she's required to attend her brother's wedding she hatches a plan to lie to her family telling them she's in a relationship with her boss, but when he finds out he wants to be her date for the weekend.

Dane Prescott, billionaire and CEO of Prescott Global has a great working relationship with his PA, but he's under pressure from his family to get rid of her, because of a merger with another company. To get away from an inevitable meeting with his mother about his PA Dane jumps at the chance to get away with Allyson for the weekend.

After a family feud at the wedding Allyson and Dane end up in bed together, and the lines between employee and employer blur. The two are not sure what to make of it, and run through a lot of hot and cold emotions, business or pleasure?

When they return home things change with the news that the tabloids think they are now engaged, do they keep up the charade or come clean?

Anyway this story didn't appeal to me the further along the book went, it was polar opposites, one minute they're hot and heavy the next they're being cold to each other ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ who does that? Not sure if I'll read the other books when they come out because the first one didn't make me want to read on.

Ok first, shocker, I didn't know this was the first in a series. So yeah I was like, what!? Yes this ends on a cliffhanger & it's a good one. Luckily I actually like cliffhangers so it was no biggie to me.

I really loved Dane & Allyson. This was a fantastic Billionaire Playboy office romance.

Allyson finds herself dateless for her brothers upcoming wedding so to keep her family off her back she lies & says she's dating her boss Dane, who unfortunately can't make it to the wedding. Through a series of events Dane finds out about Allyson's little white lie. Instead of being reprimanded as she expected to be Dane actually offers to be her pretend date to the shindig. Sadly for the two the little white lie snowballs out of control and becomes a lie of epic proportions.

As Dane & Allyson continue to build on the lie & fake relationship they have, their true feelings start to mix with the story they have woven but with so much on the line how far is too far?

The ending to this one is amazing & yes you don't get the full story but I'm sure it will be worth the wait.

I did have one issue and that was the editing. There wasn't an over abundance of mistakes & I can usually over look them but in one place the hero's name was spelled Dale instead of Dane and for me this is a big no no. But aside from that excellent read!

This book had a good beginning but it ended there. It began when the heroine told a white lie to her family, that her boss was her boyfriend and when he accidently found out, he offered to attend her sisters wedding as her fake bf. The author then spends only a small amount of time focusing on her families event and completely changed the premises of the storyline and jumps to a fake wedding and lies to his family. The hero of the story becomes a wishy-washy fool who can't make up his mind on anything and is easily swayed by his mom, as the story jumps back and forth from this angle to that. I found it funny that the heroine wasn't bothered or guilt ridden when lying to her family about a fake relationship but was extremely bothered by the idea of lying to his parents. And just when things were finally rolling towards the end and wrapping up, the author leaves you with a cliff hanger and you have to pay $2.99 for each of the next three books. I could barely handle one free book....I'm not paying for more awkward scenes in three more books. Guess I'll never know how this one ends. Book also have some mistakes within the first few pages that I've highlighted in hopes the author can fix it if she's so inclined.

Faking It was very good. At first it started out slow but it just got better and better. Prescott is delicious, sweet, handsome, rich, and hard working. A little naive and gullible, but it was a fresh change from the usual billionaire jerks you get at first. Allyson is his assistant and they've been working together for three years. She's his right hand woman and keeps him running like a well-oiled machine. She has a crush on him and that leads her to lie to her family that she is dating her boss. That lie blows up in her face in the best way, almost. The ups and downs they go through, giving into the undeniable chemistry between them, and dealing with toxic family members makes for a great story.
I didn't pay close enough attention to the title to realize it was a serial book that ended in a cliffhanger, but I was lucky enough that it came out two days ago and could continue the story. I really enjoyed book 1.
