Dilbury Village #2

The Great Escape (Dilbury Village #2): A heart-warming and hilarious romantic comedy set in a quaint English village

Rate this book
A trip to paradise gives her the escape she's always needed ...

A tropical Mexican beach is the last place Georgie Basset expects to jump-start her shattered heart. Jilted the year before, she's spent the last year trying to move on from her failed engagement. And when she spots Weston Argent, tanned, sexy, and chiseled, jogging down the beach, Georgie nearly chokes on her umbrella-clad cocktail. Clearly the Greek God out of a modern-day Baywatch scene is her gift to get over the past. And a fling in paradise is exactly what she craves.

But when Georgie returns home to discover Weston in her dog grooming parlor with her favourite breed of dog, she knows fate is playing with her. Despite their undeniable attraction, there is something about Weston that she can't quite figure out. And when the truth comes to light, Georgie is convinced all men are dogs.

Can Weston convince Abbie otherwise, or will he stay forever in the doghouse?

The Great Escape - A laugh-out-loud novel from Charlotte Fallowfield, whose books have hit the Amazon #1 bestseller charts internationally for Contemporary Romance, Romantic Comedy, and Humour.

I’d never had a physical reaction to any man like that, which told me only one thing. A man like that spelled trouble with a capital T for me. If my judgment in men, relationships, and love was already impaired, I stood no chance of retaining any sense of reason around a man who made me dizzy with desire.

It’s time to take a trip back to my favorite little town in England called Dilbury Village. The quaint and picturesque town along with its inhabitants will endear themselves to your hearts. I feel as if these characters have become some of my closest friends. What I love most of all, even more than the sweet romances, is the bond of true and most loyal friendships that these amazing women share. Romantic comedies are definitely my first loves when it comes to my books and Charlotte Fallowfield’s insane brand of humor is what has me addicted to her stories and always leaves me craving for more. I simply can’t get enough of this warm-hearted and wildly hilarious series!! I devoured this book and when I finished, I was left feeling the tingly butterflies in my stomach that I get when I absolutely fell in love with the story. Get ready to be swept away by the sweet and touching romance between Georgie Bassett and Weston Argent!

If you read NEVER THE BRIDE then you will remember Georgie, the dog groomer who was also Abbie’s best friend. Towards the end of that story, they had taken a holiday in the Mayan Riviera as Abbie tried to sort out her feelings for Miller. While on this getaway it was hinted that Georgie might have found a romance of her own. So in book two, the story starts with the two friends embarking on that trip to Mexico. Now we get to witness the romance between Georgie and Weston unfold before our eyes. It’s filled with many hilarious and embarrassing moments because of course these women are fated to be thrown into some ridiculously funny situations.

 photo W3. Perfect_zps5oaty8tm.png

While lounging out in front of their private villa, Georgie happens to see a mouth-wateringly gorgeous man with an insane body, running up the beach almost at the same time about twice a day. She’s completely smitten but also extremely shy. She tries to hide her fascination over this man because she’s never had luck with men who get her pulse racing. Georgie gets extremely nervous and tongue tied. Abbie forces her to make her move as their holiday is nearing its end. Luckily when her attempts at flirting with Weston seem to be painfully awkward, Abbie steps in and gets the two to agree on going out to dinner. The date starts off rocky and of course, Georgie encounters a few mishaps which have her convinced that she’s a walking disaster but somehow it seems that Weston is very much interested in her as she is in him.

It turns out that Weston lives a few towns over from Georgie and they plan on meeting up once they’re both back home, but Weston takes nearly two weeks to give her a call and this has Georgie’s deep fears coming to the surface. She had her heartbroken by her last boyfriend when she caught him cheating on her. It’s been nearly two years since that relationship ended but it’s left a negative impact on her psyche. When she does some soul searching she realizes that what she had with her ex was just comfortable companionship and that the feelings she has for Weston have the potential of being the real thing. He excites her like no other man has before and this scares her because if he breaks her heart she may never recover from it. So Georgie puts up her defenses and lets Weston know that she’s not ready for anything serious just yet and that they need to ease into whatever it is that’s building between them, at a slow pace.

Things are wonderful between them when they are together but Georgie is bothered deep down by Weston’s inability to share everything about his personal life with her. Weston served in the British Army for eleven years and suffers from PTSD. He is unable to open up about what happened while he was in the armed forces and it actually caused the breakup between him and his ex-fiancé. Georgie vows to never push him to share more than he is able to but as time goes on and her heart becomes fully entwined with this man, she starts to slowly resent that she’s never met his friends, family, or even seen where he lives. Any woman would start to feel as if maybe the man she loves isn’t fully invested in their relationship if they were in Georgie’s shoes.

 photo W1. Kiss_zpsm7dnmgks.png

Aside from the angst and ooey gooey hearts and flowers romance in this story, the friendship between these amazing women of Dilbury Village kept me thoroughly entertained and at times howling from belly aching laughter. I want so much for these ladies to be real and to somehow be my friends too!! Georgie may be my favorite heroine so far in this series because she’s such a huge dog lover and her bond with the cute little French bulldog, Bertie, just tugged at my heart strings!! She’s also such an amazing friend to be there for Abbie during some of her most mortifying moments. I don’t know many friends that would be that loyal and caring. This is definitely a series that is equally focused on the friendships as it is on the romances.

If you’re in need of a lighthearted and humorous romance, then look no further. Take a trip to Dilbury Village. I guarantee you will be wishing you could move there and live amongst these loveable characters.

5 - That wasn't just perfect... It was everything. Stars!

Charlotte Fallowfield returns to the village of Dilbury for the second book in her outrageously funny series, and The Great Escape didn’t disappoint.

Its LIVE!

If you haven’t read the first book in the series; Never The Bride I urge you to do so, although this book can totally be read as a standalone, you are introduced to Georgie and the rest of the secondary characters in this book in it, it also gives you more back ground on her overall, and part of that book actually runs concurrently with some of this one as well.

Sometimes a girl had to have her priorities right and stand up for the things that made her happy...

Georgie’s story much like its predecessor started off a giggle a minute and didn’t let up until the end, but it also had its sweet, heartfelt and grab-your-tissues poignant moments too.

After a long period of drought, I was dating and I was in lust. Life suddenly felt good again.

We are once again presented with a hero that you cannot help but fall in love with in Weston Argent, won’t lie his surname is one I didn’t love because it reminds me of a certain UK reality star whom I am not a fan of, and for the first half of the book I had trouble shaking his image from my head whenever it was mentioned. However I digress, I still loved him, because once again the author only gives you the bare bones of his background initially to keep you guessing, and as you discover more about him you start to realize what an absolute sweetheart he is being in relation to the lengths he is prepared to go to, in order to keep his relationship with Georgie moving forwards.

He was tender, caring, compassionate, and funny one moment, then withdrawn and distant the next.

I kind of worked out where the conflict was going to come from in the second half pretty early on, and again I’ll be honest and say that I don’t 100% think the punishment fitted the crime, but that’s just me and only my personal opinion. But if a man went to the lengths that Weston did to maintain a relationship with me, I think my initial reaction towards him would have been the same as Georgie’s, but I don’t think I would have left it the way she did after a certain pivotal moment occurred a little further along in the story. I can however understand why the author took it the direction she did, an again within the bigger picture of their story it didn’t massively detract from my enjoyment of the book.

"Trust me, I’m a doggie professional."

I love this author’s writing, even with a few minor niggles, her stories are still better than a huge amount of the traditionally published chick-lit books I read nowadays. The stories are always fresh, thoughtful, well planned and entertainingly delivered. You cannot help but like the characters the situations they get themselves in, and the way they dig themselves (sometimes literally) out again, and I am looking forward to seeing what adventures the author gives Charlie in the third book The Best Medicine due for release in early 2018.

Village life was certainly never dull.

Charlotte Fallowfield has been one of this years welcome discoveries for me and after loving Never the Bride and falling in love with Dilbury and its quirky loveable residents, I couldn't wait to return.

description

Centralising around Georgie Basset, the village dog groomer, and Weston Argent, a gorgeous and fairly closed off ex-army Captain, The Great Escape brings disastrous first dates, a cute puppy and plenty of humour. And as they get to know one another, they create everything from hilarity to heartache.

"A whole year of dating and I feel like I hardly know you."

I have to be honest though in that as much as I loved Weston and Georgie, something was missing and that was largely down to the jumps forward in time that came with each chapter. In comparison to its predecessor, they were more apparent with some important moments feeling underplayed and a bit rushed as we were picked up and dropped weeks or months down the line at points which seemed to be heading into something bigger and of consequence, and I did feel a smidgen deflated on occasion.

"Captain Argent doesn’t try. He makes a plan. He commits to it. And he succeeds."

But that's not to say I didn't enjoy this, I really did, I loved Weston and Georgie together and as their romance progressed I cheered them on whilst having a damn good giggle along the way; it's simply a case that I think they deserved more on occasion. In the grand scheme of things it's minor and you can't take away the fact that Charlotte creates fabulous characters whose romps are a perfect blend of comical and heartfelt, and whilst The Great Escape didn't quite match the heights of Never the Bride, I still can't wait for my next trip to Dilbury.

"No one could ever accuse Dilbury of being dull."

Favorite Quotes:

‘Ok, but in the spirit of honesty, if you keel over, I’m not giving you mouth to mouth. You skipped the last girlie pamper night at Charlie’s and those whiskers on your top lip will give me worse stubble rash than if I’d been kissing Weston vigorously with his five o’clock shadow,’ I teased.

… how I feel about you, is burning me from the inside out.

Greg, I find you, as a human being, so utterly repulsive that the only way I’d be interested in seeing your body is on an autopsy table.

My Review:

My perusal of The Great Escape took twice as long as it should have, only because I kept interrupting myself with giggle-snorts, jovial tears of glee, and outright barking fits of laughter. I strongly advise caution to avoid or limit snacking and libation while reading this delightfully crafted tale, due to a high risk for asphyxiation during sudden fits of mirth. I adored this highly amusing and cleverly written story from beginning to end and would love to visit the cozy little village of Dilbury and spend time with each of these endearingly quirky characters. Weston enticed and intrigued me and I was dying to know what his secret was, although I was also holding my breath for fear of it being totally devastating. Georgie was an adorable hot mess with her tendency to be socially and physically awkward around men she found attractive, she became so flustered with Weston that she rambled on with increasingly random nonsense and her legs and feet lost their purpose. Her near panic attack while riding in the Jeep when she convinced herself that her date was a serial killer who was driving her to her ultimate death had me howling and wiping my eyes. And as an added bonus was the immeasurable enjoyment of the continuing friendships, antics, and encounters with Abbie, Charlie, Daphne, and even the snooty Ms. K, for a side-splitting sequel to turdgate. I will be anxiously awaiting book number three. I fervently wish the supremely talented scribe known as Charlotte Fallowfield could clone herself so she could write twice as fast.

Oh. My. Gosh. I don't even know where to begin with this review. Charlotte has gone and left me speechless with another flawless book that will make you laugh so hard you'll cry, seriously it's THAT funny!

ARC received in exchange for an honest review

The Great Escape is the Second book in the Dilbury Village series and focuses on Georgie and Weston.

*This took me forever to write btw, I kept getting distracted from remembering parts of the book and laughing.*

Georgie has a hard time letting go her past, her ex cheated on her with a barmaid at her local and she's found it hard to trust any man that's paid any attention to her so when her eyes land upon a handsome hunk whilst sunning it up on Holiday with her bestie, Georgie does what she does best when she's attracted to a hot male, she mumbles about random shit and it's the funniest encounter you'll ever read about.

Weston is a private man, he doesn't like to share his life and what happened to him with anyone so he keeps it a secret from anyone too afraid to love from the fear of his secrets pushing them away but when his eyes land upon the most beautiful woman he's ever seen he knows he's got to have her and from there starts the beginning of their journey and boy is that journey packed with random and funny shit (literally shit involved #Turdgate)

Reading Georgie and Weston's journey has been one of my favourite things, they're so perfect together but neither seem to see it and it's frustrating, after an accident everything becomes clear to them and when they eventually realise it, it's absolutely beautiful.

Abbie, oh my god Abbie. She never, EVER fails to make me laugh that poor girl. I was literally sat here in stitches howling with laughter, she can never catch a break that one, it's absolutely hilarious. One thing that makes me smile more than anything is the loyalty Georgie and Abbie have towards each other. Their friendship is absolutely beautiful and something every girl should have.

Bertie is absolutely adorable, I loved that he was a main part of this story, I want my very own Bertie but nothing makes me happier than the mention of beagles, as you know they're my absolute favourite haha.

This whole storyline was absolutely fantastic, Charlotte did incredible again, her writing always captures me and holds me hostage until the very last page and even then I'm left thinking about how perfect everything was. She truly is an incredible woman with incredible books, I'd definitely recommend anyone to read any of her books, you won't be disappointed. I once again wish I could leave a higher rating than a five star because this one deserves it and more. Great job Charlotte.

Genre: Chick Lit. Humor.
Actual Rating: 4 stars

The Great Escape is another laugh out loud novel from Charlotte Fallowfield! While it is part of the Dilbury Village series it can be read as a complete standalone. If you have read the first book; Never the Bride you will recognize some of the same scenes as the books take place around the same time (i.e. turdgate LOL). Anyway, I really enjoyed this one. It's super cute, funny, and features my favorite secondary character from Never the Bride.

Georgie's love life had taken a turn for the worst when she found out her fiance was cheating on her with a local barmaid. So her and her BFF Abbie take a little trip to Mexico to drown their sorrows in booze and sunshine. Who cares if the owners of the hotel believe they are a newly married couple on their honeymoon? And does it really matter that there is an insanely hot guy running past them every day on the beach? Well, I suppose it does because this stranger with his rock hard abs and insanely blue eyes is going to take Georgie on a journey she never expected.

Readers will laugh out loud at Georgie and her friends as they take on life in The Great Escape. Readers will get glimpse of Georige- totally out of her element- as she gets back into the dating scene. There may also be a sequel to "turdgate" for those who know what I'm talking about. In any event, this is a must read and one that will make you scream with laughter! I can't wait for more books in the series to be released!

Recommended for Readers of

➜ Laugh out loud novels (and I mean in a sense that you will have tears streaming down your face from laughing so hard)
➜ Chick Lit novels featuring strong female characters who will totally become your personal BFF throughout the novel
➜ Romantic comedies (those that are focused more on character development but with romance to boost it)
➜ Dog Lovers

This was an enjoyable read,a great escape from real life.

We met Dilbury village and its inhabitants in the firs installment of the series but this story is focused on Georgie...no worries you can read this as a standalone but I strongly suggest you to start from the beginning and meet the funny and adorable Abbie first.

I liked how our heroine doesn't follow the rules her preppy parents made for her but she has the courage to choose what's best for her life.
Georgie and Weston journey starts in a tropical paradise, they were really awkward and after their first date I thought they were doomed but I've really appreciated the tenacity that our Hero shows in order to get our girl.

I've laughed,I've cried and I felt all fuzzy inside reading this novel and I can't wait to read more from Charlotte Fallowfield.

I so enjoyed writing this second in the Dilbury Village series. This story is Georgie's, and while she might not be as outrageous, or unfortunate, as Abbie from Never The Bride, I hope you'll agree that it's packed full of romance, drama and humour. Most of all I hope that it makes you fall even more in love with the village of Dilbury and its inhabitants and crave more from them. I can't wait to get cracking on writing Charlie's story, The Best Medicine.

What do I say about The Great Escape? It's one of those books where you never have enough words or the right words for it.
I'll admit, Charlotte Fallowfield could write a shopping list and I'd be chomping at the bit to read it. She just *that* talented. Being an author myself, I can only dream of being as amazing as she is. She makes me aspire to be better. This woman may not know it, but along with a couple of other über-talented ladies, she inspires me more and more with every book of hers I read. TGE is no different in that respect.
When she brought out her first rom-com, I didn't know what to expect. I p***ed myself laughing frequently. I swear, reading the series could make me need TENA lady.
So imagine how excited I was to realise that The Great Escape was coming out and I would get an ARC of it. I was bouncing off the walls from the second it landed on my kindle.

I tried to read this in one sitting, but I was so dang tired and I didn't want to miss any good bits by reading it in that state. So I actually finished it at 12:30am today. I got to a certain point and couldn't put it down without knowing how it ended.
As always, there was plenty of laughter. But there were also tears. Some of them were tears of happiness, others were of sadness. Whilst the happy ones outweighed the sad, the simple fact is that the sad ones came thick and fast, making it impossible for me to continue reading until I'd dried my eyes and calmed down a bit.
I don't think Charlotte meant for it to be that way, it's just that she has this way with words, with sub-plots and plot-twists, that have me all tangled up I knots. My heart was so invested in the story of Georgie Basset.

I'm not here to tell you all about the story. If you're hoping for spoilers, you'll need to look elsewhere. I just want to say how amazing this book is and that everyone...and I mean EVERYONE should read this book, and this series.
If you want a laugh a minute, this is your book. If you want something to make you melt and swoon, this is your book. If you need a group of good girlfriends who are there for each other through even some of the most disgusting times, then this is your book.
It can be read as a stand alone, but I would suggest reading the previous book first. You'll get to know Abbie and Miller far better that way.
I'm telling you now, if I had a Charlie, Daphne and Abbie in my life, I'd be in need of a constant supply of TENA lady. They are amazing. Especially Daphne, in this particular story.
Seriously, Turdgate: The Sequel... Oh My God!! Hilarious. That's one reason to read the previous book, you won't quite understand Turdgate without it. And believe me, it's something you will want to understand!

If you're looking for something funnier than Bridget Jones and her granny smackers, something that plays out like a movie in your head, then look no further. This is the series for you. (And I hope one day it gets made into a movie of it's own because it's far funnier than Bridget, no matter what she gets up to.)

I was in a book funk before my ARC of this came along. I couldn't decide what to read. Too many books, too much choice, and none of them appealed to me in that moment. Then Charlotte's PA announced she'd sent the ARCs and I was on it like a bloodhound on a fresh trail. I needed to know what was happening in Dilbury and there was only one way to find out...dive in head first. Let me tell you, I was not disappointed.
There were many laughs to be had, so many things that you couldn't help but burst into a fit of hysterics like you'd been sucking on laughing gas. There was also a hot AF guy waiting to be discovered... Weston Argent...*swoon* He's hot enough to make your ovaries spontaneously combust as well as your knickers. He's not an open book, he's a man with secrets, but they all cumulate to make him who he is. And I totally adored him, secrets and all.

So if you're looking for something funny, romantic and has the power to transport you elsewhere for a few hours, The Great Escape is for you!

Georgie Basset is the fun loving dog groomer of Dilbury, that funny little village on the border of Wales, and if you have read any other Charlotte Fallowfield books, you would have read all about this crazy little village.

But that is not where we begin our journey, nope! We start it in Mexico, where we find Georgie and her best friend Abbie Carter, after Annie fled from Dilbury, after Miller and the cake scandal...and despite Disaster Carter happening EVERYWHERE they go, from being a reject from the blue man group, mauled by a dolphin and being in a resort where everyone things you're a lesbian! Georgie finds something more than laughter at the situations they find themselves (or Abbie) in! She also finds Adonis like Weston Argent; retired Captain of Her Majesty's Royal British Army, and current personal trainer.

But after being cheated on my her ex Greg, Georgie is scared to enter a relationship, but she takes that chance, and trusts him....but is she making a big mistake?

OMG this book had me in stitches from the get go! Seriously! Charlotte Fallowfield absolutely kills it in this book! From the beyond ridiculous bad luck, to those cringe-worthy moments we can all relate too! And though I have said in the past that I'm not a rom-com fan! The author has proven me to be a liar, as this book is brilliant.

The plot to The Great Escape is light hearted, but in those serious moments, the author manages to change the mood of the book slightly, but doesn't destroy the flow of the storyline. And when it comes to the character's, Well! You love them all! But I think I love Bertie just that little more.

I give The Great Escape 5 (thousand) stars! Truly THE book of the summer!

I was provided with an ARC by the author in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.

I made sure I read the first one of this series before reading this one, but it isn't necessary. However, you will miss out on a great story with a great cast of characters.

This book brings you further in to the world of Dilbury Village, we get to catch up with those that we met in book 1 and some new characters. I will say that I think the humour of this book is quintessentially British and whilst other readers will relish in the humour, not sure all will get it.

I loved the humour and the setting - I could imagine a typical English Village in the country where all the neighbours gossip and know what is going on, where you can leave your door unlocked and all meet down the local for a quick drink on a summers evening.

The main characters in this book are Georgie and Weston - destined to be together but things do not always go as planned, as is generally the way lol! I can't wait to get more on the other characters, especially Charlie, the erotic author (oh and Quinn Miller's sister)!

I can't even begin to tell you how good it is to be back in Dilbury, I've waited not so patiently for the next instalment of The Dilbury series and the wait has been worth every single moment. This time we follow villager Georgie who after a heartbreaking split from her spineless fiancé goes on a Mexican escape with her bestie Abbie. Then enters the the stunning man god that is Weston Argent 😍 as always the hilarity begins as we follow Georgie & Weston and their dating life.....throw in the rest of the Dilbury villagers and a super cute puppy and this is a story you won't want to escape from (my how I've missed Daphne). Another amazing story that I read in one sitting 5 mahoosive stars from me. ❤️

They say that laughter is the best medicine, and this book was just what the doctor ordered. You know you are in for a doozy of a story when tears of laughter are blinding you by page 8 obscuring your Kindle screen (or your ereader of choice *winks*).

“Chemistry, passion, need, friendship, and love. Every girl deserved to have it all, and not to just settle for old slippers.”

Unlucky in love Georgie has all but given up on finding her own HEA. Once bitten, twice shy! Especially after all she suffered at the hands of ‘He Who Shall Not Be Named’ – personally, I can think of a few choice names for that one, but as you all know I’m a lady *snorts*

Romance is the last thing on Georgie’s mind when she jets off on a girls’ holiday with her bestie, Abbie. Yet, she can’t help but be drawn to the drool-worthy God-like specimen of a man that runs on the beach each morning. It’s been a while since someone of the opposite sex has had the ability to make her hormones sit up and go ‘hello!’. And it seems as if his hormones are waving hello back…

Following a very memorable date on said holiday – for all the wrong reasons - the last person Georgie expects to turn up at her doggie salon in Dilbury is Weston, along with the most adorable French Bulldog in tow. As they take tentative steps towards building a relationship together, Georgie can’t help but feel that Weston is keeping something from her. For a girl with trust issues, this is a huge red flag.

Once secrets are revealed, can Weston convince Georgie that nothing is insurmountable, and their HEA is worth fighting for?

“You’re it, you’re the one that comes along once in a lifetime and I don’t want to lose you.”

It wouldn’t be Dilbury if there weren’t calamities galore. Chock full of belly-laugh inducing moments, and I’m pleased to report that my gag reflex is still alive and well *smirks* Three words – hashtag turdgate two *shudders*

But, you want to know what I love most about these stories? It’s the heart the author puts in each one. I love this motley crew of characters – there is nothing they won’t do for each other to ensure they all get the HEA they deserve. Friends truly are the family we choose for ourselves.

Charlotte Fallowfield is one of my go-to authors when I need a guaranteed laugh. The Great Escape is the second in the Dilbury village series, after meeting Abbie in Never the Bride, this time we focus on Georgie’s story. Don’t worry though Abbie is making a full appearance in this one.

Georgie and Abbie are best friends, Georgie is getting over a broken heart after her cheating scumbag boyfriend Greg sullied her impression of men forever. In order to recover the girls go on holiday to Mexico.

The last thing Georgie needs is another man in her life but each day as she is sunning herself a glorious hunk jogs by .. as much as they try to deny it there is something clicking between them. Abbie being her forthright self engineers a meeting and from there the whole will they, won’t they escapade begins.

The hilarious moments in this book are way too many to mention, even the most embarrassing situations turn into an opportunity for a giggle. I will never ever look at a jelly teddy sweet again!

I just love the way the village and it’s inhabitants are like a family, we meet up with the local residents once more and it feels like going home. The group of friends make a great unit and all support each other.

The chemistry between Georgie and Weston is enough to ignite the pages, she is nervous about trusting him and he obviously has dark hidden secrets which all makes for a great story.

The highlight of the book has to be Bertie the dog, such a cutie and instrumental in the love stakes! I absolutely fell in love with Weston, would be proud to have Georgie and Abbie as friends .. this is fabulous book that will leave such a stupid huge grin on your face for hours. Charlotte has delivered a winner yet again and I can’t wait for the next in the series.

I was lucky to be offered an ARC by the author which I read and reviewed voluntarily.

star review of The Great Escape (Dilbury Village #2) by Charlotte Fallowfield

This is the second book in Charlotte Fallowfield's new series and in my opinion she has another winner on her hands. I laughed so much I cried in this book; it was fabulous and I couldn't put it down. The writing is well executed and the story line thought provoking at times. It was hilarious, sweet, dramatic and honestly one of the best books I have read in this genre in a long time.

Although a stand alone, I do think you would appreciate it more if you read Never The Bride first, just to get a bit of background, however it is not necessary, just a suggestion. After getting to know and love Georgie in book one I was anxious to see what Ms.Fallowfield had in store for her; I was not disappointed.

I loved how Georgie and Weston met and went on “the date from Hell” in Mexico then parted.
Georgie is shocked when Weston turns up in Dilbury village, perhaps their date wasn't as bad as she thought? Georgie is uncertain as to whether she wants to open herself up to potential heartache again,;throw in the fact Weston has secrets and you can be sure that this story is full of twists and turns. When all is revealed will Georgie be able to forgive Weston his secrets?

The chemistry between Georgie and Weston was off the charts and their banter amusing. These two had me smiling so much it hurt; add in Georgie's meddling best friend Abbie whom I came to love in book one and I was happily visualizing being in Shropshire.

The secondary characters in this book made for some cringe worthy moments at times, yet they were so likable and I think most of us could put our own friends or relatives into the characters at times, I know I certainly could. The Great Escape had so many laugh out loud moments that I was in danger of being thought crazy.

I cannot wait to read the next book in this series. Congratulations Ms. Fallowfield you have a winner on your hands.

The Great Escape is the second book in the Dilbury series, but you don’t have to read the first book to enjoy it (and I didn’t – but I have to admit it’s next on my list to read, because this series is so good). It tells the story of Georgie and Weston, who first meet when he trips over while running on a Mexican beach, and it’s pretty much lust at first sight. But how does Georgie explain that she’s sharing a honeymoon suite with Abbie (who everybody thinks is her lesbian lover)? More importantly, why does Weston keep running hot and cold with Georgie, a trait that continues when she arrives back home in Dilbury village, and he starts to woo her with the help of a French Bulldog called Bertie.

It takes a skilled hand to write comedy that makes you laugh out loud, and this book made me guffaw over and over again. But there’s also tenderness, heartbreak and character development woven in amongst the humour, making it a real page turner from the start.

The Great Escape may be Georgie’s book, but it also features a great cast of characters that populate Dilbury village, and they add flavor and comedy to the story at just the right time. I think I fell in love with the village as much as I did with Georgie and Weston’s romance, which means there’s only one thing to do – and I’m off to read Never the Bride (Dilbury book 1) right now!

If fun and misadventure is what you're after this series is definitely the one for you! Full of real laugh-out-loud situations the wonderful characters of Dilbury Village will have you in stitches. But what I love most about this series is the beautiful bond these wonderful women share. They have each other's backs no matter what (even in the most disgusting of circumstances!). They're also such strong and independent women, you cannot help but admire them.

Georgie and Weston's relationship is full of those awkward moments that real relationships have. The insecurities they share, the miscommunications that occur and the steps they take to get over their issues, made for a realistic story with plenty of sweet romance (with some heartbreaking moments too).

I loved the way the timeline of this story overlapped the previous one yet didn't at all seem repetitive, only allowing me to fondly reminisce instead. A very well written series so far ... give me more already! 4.5 stars

Ever wondered what happened when the girls had their holiday to recharge in Never the Bride, well having finished reading The Great Escape I know...but no ...erm big... spoilers here! The cross over from one character's story to another was flawlessly woven together so the time line was synchronously perfect and I was eager to catch up with the Dilbury crew secretly gleeful at the expectation of another toilet humour filled read. The situational humour was as consistently funny as in the previous story with one mishap after another that made me chuckle. Honestly a comedy of errors best describes their luck! Georgie has a holiday romance, of sorts, but as per usual nothing goes to plan for the ladies of Dilbury as Fate really does enjoying with them!

Weston is a hottie that appears God like as he runs by day after day on the beach. With a little intervention from the best friend, Abbie, Georgie actually manages a disastrous first date...cue much laughter at her and the awkwardness of it all but I couldn't help but think I've experienced a few of those moments myself. Thinking she's blown all hope she's surprised when things seem to be on the up once home but unfortunately Weston has a few skeletons in his closet, he acts all shady causing the girls imagination to go into over drive. With the truth finally revealed after much angst and mirth, providing the twist in the storyline, the lies that almost break them apart are so heart wrenching as Weston acts with the best intentions and his weakest point made him oh so loveable that I couldn't help but swoon. This second story in the series had me crying tears of laughter yet it was also tinged with sadness and the echo of wariness only those that have had their heart broken can understand. It was another marvellously well written romantic comedy that I read from cover to cover in one sitting. We also have the added bonus of catching up with a host of familiar faces and I felt like I was part of the friendship, getting to know each of them.

Another five star read that I couldn't put down.

Charlotte Fallowfield never fails to deliver on the laugh out loud comedy and humour that i've come to expect from her books, each story has had me in stitches or reaching for the tissues for one reason or another, she cleverly writes such brilliant characters that you can't help falling in love with, they either touch your heart and make you feel like you really know them just like an old friend or they get you all hot and bothered and make you swoon!
After meeting Georgie in Never The Bride the previous book in this series I had been dying to read more about her as she is such a great character. If you haven't read the previous book be assured that you don't need to as you get a full on version of how Georgie and the delicious Weston first met while on holiday in Mexico. Their story is one that took so many turns for them to get started in the first place with them both having issues with trust and needing a little self forgiveness which they learn to get over by being there for each other when faced with what is thrown in their path to happiness, but unfortunately they are both pretty stubborn people that don't ever make things easy on themselves or each other.
On the lighter side of the story we get to see Abbie and Daphne getting up to so many antics at the local summer fete and some very funny payback rivalry with the other participants to try to win first prize for best baked goods. I almost wet myself while reading this book, so many times I just couldn't hold it in and not frighten the dog with my outbursts of laughter. Where the ideas come from for the things that the characters get up to I just don't know, but well of course they must come from the amazing and extraordinary imagination that this author must have. They are at times just so totally out there and crazy but at the same time they are so so funny you can't help but get drawn along with the hilarity of it all. I can't wait to see what else is in store for the villagers of Dilbury in the next book of this series.
This was a brilliant addition to this series and deserves 5 stars!

Reading about theirs mischief, loyalty, support and heartfelt way they are with each other is such a joy.

The 2nd installment in the Dilbury Village series gives us Georgie' story. True to the author's uncanny ability to intertwine love, angst and a whole lot of humor I love this series. It is the trifecta of a great story. Georgie unwittingly falls for a hot, runner that keeps running past her trying to get her attention while on vacation in Mexico. They finally meet and his hot and cold attitude towards her has got her completely disoriented. Luckily he also resides not far from her own village and things between them begin to take off. Through the ups and downs of their relationship, you have the different side characters interspersed that keep you laughing, cheering, groaning etc. I love all the characters in this little village and can't wait for the next installment.

From the first chapter this book had me laughing (in public). It was so well written that I thought it was one of the best book Charlotte had ever written.

This story is about friends - their ability to hold us up, romance and a dash of laughter in every chapter.

Georgie and Abbie are going on a holiday to Mexico. They aren't looking for love since they've both been burned in the past. That is until a gorgeous man runs past their swimming pool and lands facedown in the sand. Georgie is trying to let him keep his dignity by pretending she didn't see his fall. Every day at 11 o'clock Weston will run past them and slowly they go from looking to nodding to a shy hello. Abbie likes the direct approach more and wastes no time. She gets Georgie and Weston to go on a date together. Being on a tropical beach in Mexico, what's the worst that could happen?

Georgie has been betrayed by her ex-boyfriend. She was hurt badly at the time, but looking back she must admit that he was never the one for her. Checking out Weston has awakened parts of her body she didn't even know were there. Weston tells her up front that he has secrets which he might never be able to share with her and Georgie trusts him enough to deal with this. What will she do when Weston opens up to her about his past?

Georgie is a dog groomer and she loves her job and dogs very much. Her parents don't like her career choice and are a bit snobbish about her friends. Georgie holds her own and I loved how sweet she is. She always helps out and is even kind to people who don't deserve it. The Great Escape is a wonderful story about finding love when you're not expecting it. Georgie and her friends are hilarious and I would have a field day if I would live in the same street as them.

Charlotte Fallowfield has drawn a map of Dilbury Village. She's even managed to draw it in a way that also makes sense to me and I’m not skilled in the navigation department. This drawing made it very easy for me to picture Georgie's hometown and the cottages. Because of this I had no trouble at all to connect with the story. Charlotte Fallowfield has created an amazing group of friends and I hope there will be a third book in the Dilbury Village series. The Great Escape is a great romantic comedy. It’s full of humor and has an overall sweet and heartwarming feeling.

Provided an ARC by the author in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.

This is Dilbury Village number 2. This story is about Georgie and Weston. We’re back with the clan from Dilbury Village. I love this village and the great characters that Charlotte has created. They stay with you long after you finish the book.

We start with Georgie and Abbie vacationing together in Mexico. Georgie, who is still a little gun shy from a past relationship gone bad and dealing with some hangups that have come from her parents expectations of her life, can't seem to get herself together when she encounters a tall, hot, handsome guy on the island. Enters Weston. The two can’t seem to get it together. To the rescue is her best friend, Abbie. The one that if it's going to happen, it will happen to Abbie, and Georgie will be there to witness it. They are like Lucy and Ethel from the "I Love Lucy" show. Abbie decides she going to help Georgie get her mojo back. And Weston is going to reap the benefits. Here is where the fun begins. The antics start in Mexico and follow them all the way back home to Dilbury.

Georgie and Weston find they are good together, but just can’t seem to get around some STUFF they bought into the relationship that should have been handled. Lies, mistrust, the past. Everybody weighs in on this relationship and keeps an eye on the couple. It takes a village. Georgie and Abbie along with their friend Daphne, an elderly neighbor who lives across the way, will have you on the edge of your seat and about to wet your pants laughing out loud at the antics they get up to. There’s always an OMG moment to look forward to.

I have enjoyed both books in the series and can’t wait to see what happens in the next book. I'm looking forward to Abbie’s sister in law, Quinn, story.

The Great Escape was just that .. this installment of the series was an escape from reality where a great group of friends made you laugh cry and laugh some more ..

Georgie and Weston's story was magical .. Meeting on a beach in Mexico, turning out just living 45 minutes from each other at home or you think so .. when Georgie and Abbie return from vacation Georgie never thought Weston would call even after there first date being a disaster and how it ended she never thought he would call even after 9 days. But Weston was dealing with his own issues and had to push through them to get to her BUT could he get through it ALL for her .. was he able to get through it ALL for her ??

The day at the fete will have you rolling on the ground along with Abbie !!

This story was magical from the beginning .. but the laughter and antics between these friends kept you in your toes and finally the romantic gestures that Weston goes through to prove his love for Georgie will make you cry !!

You will read this installment over and over and laugh and cry over and over !!

Such a cute, adventurous, laugh-out-loud rom-com! The Great Escape is the 2nd book in the Dilbury Village series and features Weston Argent and Georgie Basset. They meet on holiday and have a strong attraction. They are both fun and loving. With a few obstacles to overcome, they navigate their developing relationship searching for that HEA. It's a light-hearted tale with great friends and family to boost the story. The Great Escape helps you do just that - escape for a little while to giggle and smile.

The Groomer and the Trainer

Do you want to laugh out loud and a few chapters later break out the tissues? If you do, get ready and read the second book in the Dilbury Village set. Dog lovers will especially like this story's heroine Georgie, the dog groomer. She and her boyfriend share a love of dogs that fits well into this book's story.
