"Physics has always been very challenging to beginners in college when it comes to problem solving. Faculties opine that this approach is very critical for concept building and for scoring in the university exams as most of the university questions are concept and numerical based. To address this issue `Problems and Solutions’ in the field of `Optics and Photonics’ in our kitty provides concepts in lucid language with stepwise problem solving approach! The product covers the complete spectra from basic chapters like ‘Optical Instruments, Dispersion, Diffraction’ to the latest advancements like Integrated Optics, Electro optic effect, Acousto-optic effect and Nonlinear optics. At a glance concepts and formulae, at chapter beginning sets the tone for the rest of the chapter. The most appreciated feature of this book is it’s concept, principle and numerical based problems from wide array, patterned as per FAQs in university exams. Answers follow the problems section by detailed conceptual explanations and student friendly step-wise solution. Sure to click amongst the students!"
Ajoy Ghatak is an Indian physicist and author of physics textbooks.Professor Ghatak has written over 170 research papers and more than 20 books. His undergraduate text on Optics has been translated to Chinese and Persian and his monograph on Inhomogeneous Optical Waveguides (coauthored with Professor Sodha) has been translated to Chinese and Russian. In 1995, he was elected Fellow of the Optical Society of America "for distinguished service to optics education and for his contribution to the understanding of propagation characteristics of gradient index media, fibers and integrated optical devices". He received his M.Sc from Delhi University and Ph.D from Cornell University. After a short stint as a Research Associate at Brookhaven National Laboratory, Professor Ghatak joined the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi in 1966. He retired as an Emeritus Professor of Physics at IIT Delhi in 2007.
