It took me a week to get through this collection. Not a horrible set of stories, but nothing mind blowing. Static is a character that is obviously destined to be placed in the Superman-level super powers of the DC universe, though for now it is simply confusing as to what exactly the limit of those powers are. He can heal a severed arm, but it's possibly something that only happens in special circumstances? They never fully cover this and finally run off to show even more uses of his powers, sometimes with an a clear explanation of how it works, sometimes not so clear.
I will give Scott McDaniel credit for explaining what happened to Static and his family before this 'reboot' occurred, though you need to read every issue in this collection for the full information. It was confusing waiting for the full explanation. I was very happy to see Hardware playing a mentor role, as he was one of my favorite comics from the old 'Milestone Comics' imprint that DC tried in the 90s.
Overall, while one of the less interesting of the New 52, it is still at the top of that pile. I did enjoy the stories, though my interest wasn't held enough to read it in one sitting. Very unlikely that I'll pick up any further volumes.

I read Static Shock: The New 52 #1 a few days ago, and honestly, I had a good time with it. It’s a fun, fast story that’s easy to get into and a nice way to spend some time. The main character, Virgil Hawkins, also known as Static, is a teen with electric powers who’s trying to balance school, work, and being a superhero. It’s not deep or complicated, but it’s exciting and full of energy.

The story takes place in New York City, where Static is still getting used to the city and his job at S.T.A.R. Labs. He’s also out there fighting bad guys and trying to prove himself as a real hero. The comic moves pretty quickly, which felt kinda weird. It doesn’t drag or get boring, and it makes it an easy read when you just want something entertaining. It also gives you a good idea of who Static is and what kind of hero he wants to be.

My favorite thing about the comic was Static himself. He’s a really fun character, confident, kind of nerdy, and always cracking jokes even when things get rough. The action scenes were also awesome. The lightning effects and colors really stand out, and every fight looks super cool. I liked how creative Static was with his powers; he doesn’t just zap people, he uses electricity in smart ways that make the fights interesting.

What I didn’t like was how short it felt. I’m used to reading longer comics or full books, so this one ended a bit too fast. Just when things started to get really good, it was already over. I get that it’s the first issue, but I still wanted a little more story to enjoy.

Even with that, I think Static Shock: The New 52 #1 is a great read. It’s got action, a cool main character, and great visuals. If you like superhero stories that are quick, fun, and easy to read, this one’s perfect. It definitely made me want to pick up the next issue.

This was part of an attempt to read every #1 issue in DC’s New 52 Relaunch.
Straight from the Milestone universe; we’ve got Static. The character Static. The title of the book is Static Shock, but Static is the superheroes name. When I was a kid, the animated series for this would show on the WB and I’d always try to catch it. I thought his powers were way cool. So going into this book was fun. It feels very Spider-many which I like and he’s a fun character to read. It starts out with him chasing Sunspot, he catches him and a deeper more sinister plot begins to unfold. But not everything, which I appreciate. We see him working with Hardware, and he gets some new tech. But it ends with a cliffhanger. I think it’s pretty fun, and I’m not sure why there are no other Milestone characters popping up with their own series in the New 52.

I guess one of the ideas for the New 52 relaunch was to revive Static as a title after about a decade. It's weird how he doesn't have as many comics as one might think. This was an okay start. I'm really missing the art of the Milestone days. The art there had more character, whereas this feels a bit too streamlined to the point where it feels like any other DC title.

Lost in space is what I felt trying to catch up with the changes in this new version of Static Shock compared to the original version. While the writing and illustration was topnotch I feel something was lost with jumping right in to the adventure w/o the background.

Fan! I picked up #1 late, because I was on a Dwayne McDuffie snob tip, but Scott McDaniel is doing a great job from what I can see here. Lovin the Hardware cameos. I'll definitely be picking up the trade in a month!
