"Authentic narration of the epic with life lessons
Keeping Faith and Conquering Fear
The Ramayana is not a story. It is a way of life. It is the game of life.
Life is a constant reminder that nothing, however powerful in one season, remains so in the next. These endless cycles of change could really spook someone who is unprepared to face the realities. Remember that situations of helplessness are always created by one’s own limited imagination.
Do you have the courage to face your fears?
Stand Strong is the fourth book in Ramayana: The Game of Life series. A modern retelling of the Kishkindha Kanda of Valmiki’s epic, it reminds us through the tragic story of brothers Vali and Sugriva that life is like a dangerous treasure hunt. One must be resilient while running through confusing, zigzagging paths to acquire essential wisdom.

If I were to describe it in just a word I’d say, “Gripping.
Mythology especially Indian Mythology has a special charm. It is open to a wide range of interpretations. It holds in its bosom so many stories, stories told and untold, stories that can shake you to the core, stories that when seen from different angles give one different perceptions of human nature. What to one may seem good will to another be a source of criticism. Since childhood am seeing and hearing the stories of Ramayana, but I have never understood the true meaning of those tales. I got the real feel of Ramayana and understood what an epic it is after reading Stand Strong. The story retelling of the Kishkindha Kanda of Valmiki's epic "Ramayana". It is basically, a recitation of the epic with practical life lessons, something that can be enjoyed by readers of any age.
The story starts with Lord Rama and Lakshmana’s search for Sitadevi, which takes them to the Rishimukh mountain range. Here, they are spotted by Nala, Nila and Taru, who failed to recognize them and rushed towards Sugriva to warn him of upcoming danger. Hanuman finally meets his master and recognizes his life’s goal. Hanuman takes them to Sugriva, who has almost given up the fight with this brother, Vali. It explains in detail about Vali’s regular torture and life threatening and humiliating attempts towards Sugriva. Ram wins back Sugriva's lost empire in return of favor to find Sita. Lord Rama made justice by killing Vali. As Rama helps Sugriva in his battle, the monkey clan comes together and watches the mighty Rama with awe and respect. Henceforth, the clan is dedicated to Rama’s mission and Sugriva promised to find Mother Sita from evil entity Ravana. Sugriva forms troops of millions and trillions monkeys to find Sita. When it is confirmed that Sita is in Lanka, the kingdom of the beast Ravana, Hanuman is all set to leap from the Mount Mahendra to fulfill his sole purpose.
Fear and love both result in seeing presence in absence. Fear dreads the presence and love dreads the absence
The language is as usual simple, crisp and lucid with the power to bring forth the scene of action live before one’s eyes. The style of narration and the pace are perfect. Characterization has always been the author’s strong point and this one is no exception. The writer's words has the capacity to hold the reader till the last page. There are some absolutely motivational lines that are in the book. The Ramayana series could be used as reference, especially for those who enjoy spiritual lessons. But for the others, this book is equally good and can teach a thing or two about our age old but precious wisdom. Our epics are based on the struggles and obstacles faced by humans but also reveal how to deal with the same and live one’s life ideally. The way this epic has been presented is truly appreciable. The wisdom on the basis of this timeless tale. Wisdom at almost each page, as a footnote, describes the points flawlessly and effectively. There are pearls of wisdom at the bottom of every page. A very useful tool for us and the younger generation. Its a sure shot way to inculcate some mythology in them. At the end of it all, it was an illuminating experience, at least for me.
Stand Strong by Shubha Vilas, definitely touches the heart of the reader and gives strong messages, that nothing on the Earth happens purposelessly, every incident and every birth has a meaning hidden. Just a flawless work…. amazing.
I would recommend this to all youth across the world
Stand Strong is the fourth installment in the Ramayana : The Game of Life series by the author, also a spiritual and motivational speaker, Shubha Vilas. I have read the other books in the series too and I have to say, Ramayana has never been more interesting.
The story starts off with where it had paused previously. Rama and Lakshmana are leaving Sabari’s abode and moving towards the southern mountains in search of the vanaras. It is in this book that Hanuman finally meets his master and recognizes his life’s goal. Hanuman takes them to Sugriva, who has almost given up the fight with this brother, Vali. As Rama helps Sugriva in his battle, the monkey clan comes together and watches the mighty Rama with awe and respect. Henceforth, the clan is dedicated to Rama’s mission. When it is confirmed that Sita is in Lanka, the kingdom of the beast Ravana, Hanuman is all set to leap from the Mount Mahendra to fulfill his sole purpose.
We all have read/heard/seen the Ramayana, haven’t we? (If you haven’t, then I highly recommend reading this series!) But trust me when I tell you this, it doesn’t feel like one is re-reading it. Nowhere in the entire series does it ever feel that the details are unnecessarily lengthy or overly descriptive and neither does it have a firm religious hold in its pages. It is basically, a recitation of the epic with practical life lessons, something that can be enjoyed by readers of any age, I believe.
The author’s story telling skills are impeccable! One is simply enamored by the stories within stories that is weaved in so interestingly. As was the case with the previous books, the little foot notes superbly summarize the events on the page, making reading the book a pleasurable and learning experience. I really couldn’t put the book down!
A few foot notes caught my attention that I’d love to share with you:
“Fear and love both result in seeing presence in absence. Fear dreads the presence and love dreads the absence.”
“Enjoying credit for someone else’s action is like shopping with someone else’s credit card.”
“One may desire to hear the right words but may be destined to hear the wrong ones. When desire and destiny don’t match, it’s called life.”
Some food for thought, eh? I thoroughly enjoyed the book and would highly recommend it to anyone who is new to Ramayana or to someone who has read a hundred different versions if it. You will find something new here.
Book Title: Ramayana - Stand Strong Author: Shubha Vilas Format: Paper Back Number of pages : 316 Publisher: Jaico Publishing House Publishing Date: 30th Sept 2017 Printed Price: INR 280 ISBN-10: 9386348926 ISBN-13: 978-9386348920
Book Title: The title of the book "RAMAYANA - The Game of life : Stand Strong" itself attracts a true lover and reader of a book. Nothing more to say its 'Ramayana'.
Book Cover: The cover image in blue that depicts the sky and an eagle flying is a delight to watch. The title of the perfectly matches with the sub title which says 'Stand Strong' and the eagle is a perfect metaphor for strength.
About the Book: This is the fourth book in the Ramayana series that the author has given to the world of bibliophiles. Here is the detailed review:
----> "Ramayana" is a book that is considered as one of the greatest epics in the history because it teaches ' what is life' and 'how to live'.
---->This book talks about the chapters of 'Kishkinda Kanda' of the original Ramayana which depicts about the enquiry, investigation and operational plan to bring back the abducted Sita with the help of Hanuman and his crowd.
---->The book also narrates the story of King Vali and his personality that which creates ripples in his kingdom because of his behavior.
---->In a short yet good narrative background, some lesser known facts and stories that sometimes have no much importance in a general reading of Ramayana are also considered.
---->The bond between Lakshmana and Rama, his devotion and respect towards his elder brother Rama, and many more such tiny tales with great messages are included.
---->One of the points in the book that should be highlighted with emphasis is sanskrit slokas that add beauty to the narration.
---->This book along with the initial books in the series is a good prescription to read a modern day explanation of our very own historical 'Ramayana' for a better understanding of life.
Narration: A very simple, easily understandable yet strong narration is observed.
Grammar and Vocabulary: Simple grammar and nice vocabulary is used.
My Final Verdict: A must read for any reader or a non-reader who wishes to read Ramayana in a lighter version but a true life teller!!!!
“...the secret of the Great Stories is that they have no secrets. The Great Stories are the ones you have heard and want to hear again. The ones you can enter anywhere and inhabit comfortably. They don’t deceive you with thrills and trick endings. They don’t surprise you with the unforeseen. They are as familiar as the house you live in. Or the smell of your lover’s skin. You know how they end, yet you listen as though you don’t. In the way that although you know that one day you will die, you live as though you won’t. In the Great Stories you know who lives, who dies, who finds love, who doesn’t. And yet you want to know again.
That is their mystery and their magic.” ― Arundhati Roy, The God of Small Things
The Ramayana is the greatest epic ever told (at least one of those). This is my second book of this series. The first book I read was “The Stolen Hope”. I liked that immensely review of which can be found here: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2... this is just the extension of story which now moves to Rishimukh Parbat where Ram meets Hanuman (Kishkindha Kaand). Whatever I said in the previous review applied to this too.
The story is great because everyone knows it but still a brief outline. Sugriva is hiding in Rishimukh mountain beause of his brother Bali. Then Ram and Lakshman comes that side and he sends Hanuman to find out who are they. Ram befriends Sugriva and kills Bali. The book ends with Hanuman running towards Mahendra Parbat.
The book tells Ramayana and stays true to the original most of the time. The footnotes are life lessons which is derived from the story itself. Some of these are reproduced below:
1. A mature person knows how to neglect disrespect toward oneself and take very seriously disrespect towards others. 2. Luxuries are of concern only when basic needs are met, and basic needs itself are of concern only when need for mental peace is met. 3. Responsibility appears like a cage, but it sets the bird of self-growth free. 4. A fearful person is like a paralyzed person. 5. Where power ends, responsibility begins. One question which is often asked “why Rama killed Vali from hiding?”. The author tries to answer it by saying that Vali is an animal and Rama is a hunter. The hunter (men) decide the rules and not the hunted. Also, Vali was wrong by laying eyes on Ruma and trying to kill Sugriva. So, Rama was justified in killing him. I am not convinced by the reasoning.
One more drawback is that the interpretation given in footnotes and in boxes are good but they impede the enjoy of reading. The acts as speed breakers and slows down the reading. It would have been better that they would have been given in the running narrative.
This is my first book by Shubha Vilas, and I can honestly say it left a deep, quiet impact on me.
" Stand Strong" is a beautifully written retelling of the Kishkindha Kanda from the Ramayana, but it feels far more intimate than a traditional mythological narration. The story of Rama’s search for Sita, Hanuman discovering his true purpose, and Sugriva’s inner turmoil is told with such emotional clarity that the characters feel incredibly human. Their fears, doubts, loyalty, and courage mirror the struggles we face in our own lives, making the reading experience both relatable and reflective.
What truly stood out for me was how gently the book offers life lessons. The insights shared at the end of chapters and through subtle reflections never feel forced; instead, they flow naturally with the story and encourage you to pause and introspect. As someone who has grown up hearing stories from the Ramayana, this book helped me reconnect with them on a deeper level less as stories from the past and more as guidance for the present.
" Stand Strong" is not just about mythology or faith; it is about resilience, inner strength, and learning to stand firm in moments of uncertainty. Calm, thoughtful, and deeply enriching, this book feels like a quiet companion one that stays with you even after you’ve finished reading.
Its a story that can inspire you, motivate you and you feel and realize how to face the difficulties and how struggle in life is important to make a mark in life.
This is the story that every Indian , We can say even the World know .
The author rebuild the story very beautifully. The agony of Rama in the beginning of the book drawn beautifully.
All the elements of of the story- the description - the magical World, the action, narration is really good and it can make the readers hooked in to the book.
The monologues, and the sanskrit verses made the book even more beautiful and more prominent.
The cover of the book is very eyecatching and colourful.
A book that takes you in the realms of the glorious past, a book that lets you feel the human emotions and predicaments, a book that stands as an exquisite literary piece, a book that above all, teaches you how to live!
STAND STRONG by Shubha Vilas is a classic piece of literature that will challenge your wits and beliefs to let you know the essence of humanity and the existence. It is a book about keeping the faith and conquering fear. Truly, with each word you relish the taste of this book and travel through the minds of not only the characters but also that of writer’s. The book is categorically focused on that particular segment of Mahabharata where Lord Rama helps Sugriva defeat his vainglorious brother Vali.
The cover of the story as well as its title is perfectly in sync with the narrative. The title apparently implies that freedom is the key to happiness. One needs to get himself out of the clutches of fear to instill freedom in his soul. And the freedom comes to one who learns to stay nonchalant under all the circumstances. One should remain calm and composed to feel liberated. The pigeon on the cover symbolizes freedom.
The mythical characters described in the book make you touch the nuances of life. The portrayal of Rama and his restlessness to meet his beloved has been expressed very well. One could feel his pain and helplessness in the lines. Along with the life of Lord Rama, several other lives also run parallel with it. The coherence has been diligently maintained. The writer’s command over language is praiseworthy that makes the characters come alive. The narrative has been planned smoothly to make the readers drown in the holy lands of Malyavan Hills and Rishimukh Mountains. The inspiring stories of the great sages inculcate peace in our soul. They are not mere accounts of history. As we read this book, we get to know how relevant they are to the status quo. It is not just going to inform you about history but will enhance your knowledge about the education, virtues, and living. The book is meant to enlighten you.
The best part of the book is the analysis done by the author that drew the fantastic conclusions in the form of vital life lessons. Some of my favorite lines are listed below:
A weak mind is like a bacterium that causes an infection of self-doubt that crumbles a strong body. One must detach oneself from the material benefits that distract one from focusing on the goal one is attached to. Accepting others’ imperfections gracefully is the sign of perfection. Accepting one’s own imperfection honestly is the sign of progress toward perfection. When one competes with oneself, one invites celebration instead of competition. The quality that makes you can be the very quality that breaks you. While the ordinary exhibit their abilities nakedly, the extraordinary carefully clothe them with the drape of modesty. What studying books can’t teach, observing people can. Where power ends, Responsibility begins!
I would like to recommend to everyone irrespective of the fact that they are readers or not because this book is not just to derive the pleasure of reading. Rather, it is there to make you familiar with the higher form of spirituality and uplift your wisdom!
We entirely take decipher Ramayana several times in drill or give rise to heard it from our grandmother. The knowledge for of Ramayana is attracted inculcating into your sparkle. “Stand strong “is the fourth reserve of the Ramayana series. The novelist has exceptionally industriously narrated the intact tale. The relating is exhilarated and holds the appealing muscle to honor the booklover gripped until they bring to an end. Dissimilar Fiction, everyplace the dramatist does not wait for the authority to join the plot of against any road. The strong suit of Mythology deceit in its telling. Great recitation helps the bookworm engaged. Inspired lettering grace additional stars to the telling. Furthermore, the experience of noble Rama is importance noticing. Brilliant bring about was finished by the origin. The story retelling of the Kishkindha Kanda of Valmiki's epic "Ramayana". It explains in detail about the fight between the brothers Sugriva and vaali. Also, this book gives a deep explanation of why Hanuman became the slave of Sugriva, how Hanuman found his leader, Rama and furthermore. The author has penned the book accordingly to the modern era so that even the people who don't have much knowledge of myth and epics can also get well along the book. This is not just retelling the epic, but the author has made it an inspiring motivational book with the intellectual narration. This book also provides life lessons through every incident. Every character is portrayed with utmost care and their background is also deeply explained. The words are simple and the language is lucid and crisp which makes the book, an easy read. The author's engaging narration and presentation prove that the continuity of the series can still be retained even if you start the series from the fourth book. This book has the ability to engross the reader's interest till the end. Verdict: I loved to read mythology books and it is a worth reading for every age of the person.
The Ramayana is not a story. It's the game of life.
This books makes us see the life from a totally different perspective. It tells that there is light in each one of us. We just need to discover it and need to overcome our fears. Once that is done, we can conquer anything. The optimism is what I have received all throughout reading this book. This positivity is surely going to help me a lot.
The cover of the book gives a sense of freedom and peace. It is soothing enough to captivate any reader. The Title is really intriguing and the blurb is also quite good. The narration of the author is worth appreciating.
The religious books and scriptures are complex enough to be understood in one go. I really liked the way the author has managed, I reader like me who doesn't like religious books, to keep hooked till the end. This book makes the readers understand the lessons of the holy book through its practical implementations in day to day life. It was my first encounter with Ramayana and I must say it was worth it.
I was fortunate enough to get this book and I am soon going to buy the other books of the series as well. This book has motivated me a lot and I would recommend this to all the readers out there.
Have read each of the books of "The Ramayana" series penned by Shubha Vilas have liked each of them. The author's detailed narration of the life lessons we can learn from the great epic is very excellent
Book Name (with subtitle): Ramayana- Stand Strong (Keeping Faith and Conquering Fear) Author Name: Shubha Vilas Format: Paperback No of Pages- 328 Publisher: Jaico Publishhing House Blurb: The Ramayana is not a story. It’s a way of life. It’s the game of life. Life is a constant reminder that nothing, however powerful in one season, remains unchanging. The endless cycles of change can truly us if we are unprepared to face its realities. However, we often see these changing times as problems larger than they really are. Many issues in life when perceived with fear, result in pain; but when perceived with CLARITY, result is FREEDOM. Situations of helplessness are almost always created by our own limited imagination. Do you have the courage to face your fears? Stand Strong, the fourth book in Ramayana: The Game of Life series reminds us through its eternal stories -- such as the tale of brothers Vali and Sugriva -- that life is like a high-risk treasure hunt: one often has to walk through a maze of confusing paths while being chased by dangerously complex dilemmas to find the hidden treasure of wisdom.
Cover: The cover design of the book is simple yet aristocratic I can say. It is well enough justifying indeed. Title: Title (along with the subtitle) of the book is thought provoking and good. It appropriately complements with the substance and theme of the book. Language & narration: The language of the book is lucid and simple to comprehend. I would like to mention that there are many places where I found rich words in grammatical meaning and I have not come across such words very often while reading; so (according to me), good selection of words to ornament the sentence I must say. At many places words and lines are deliberately have been emphasized at many places according to their need. Narration is captivating and gripping I can say. Narrating if the incidents with each possible references to connect reader’s with their lives according to the different phases is highly commendable. In spite of having the length of the book (no of pages), it was quite impossible to put down the book even for once before completing it, and super intriguing narration made it possible. Plot: The plot has been crafted entirely on the base of Kishkindha Kanda of Valmiki’s epic. Setting: This has been set around Kishkinda (Kingdom Of Vali). Characterization: All the characters of the book are directly from the epic (purana) Ramayana and the author has done completely justice while portraying each and every single character of the book. Characterization is so apt and clear that even a non mythology readers also will be able to visualize them interacting while going through the book. The characters have been presented here exactly without any exaggeration of artificial rendering to make those events different from what they were. Every character has their own significance (be it major or minor) accordingly and they have effective great impact into the minds of readers. Here in this book the characters noticeably pointed are- Rama, Lakshmana, Sita / Janaki, Hanuman, Sugriva, Vali, Tara, Angad, Lankeshwar Ravana, Dundhubhi, Mayavi, Ruma, Jambavan, Swayamprabha, Samapti. Theme: Mythology, life lessons, motivation, positivity. Story in a nutshell & My Verdict: This book is the 4th book (of 6) in the “Ramayana: The Game Of Life” series. This book is broadly describing the “Kishkindha Kanda” and many other significant episode within that to give readers a compact and clear perception about the relevant incident happened at that time (as written by Maharshi Valmiki). This book starts from the 1st meeting of Hanuman with Rama & Lakshmana. Hanuman made it possible to meet Rama & Lakshmana with Sugriva. After hearing about Vali’s (Sugriva’s brother & the King of Kishkinda) regular torture and life threatening & humiliating attempts towards Sugriva, Lord Rama made justice by killing Vali and Sugriva promised to find Mata Sita and help Rama to get his wife back from the evil entity Lankeshwar Ravana. Finally their hunt to find Sita started. It’s just a simple brief of Kishkidha Kanda that includes killing of Vali and Sugriva retains the Kingdom of Kishkinda, but this is not just the book contains. There are lots and lots of details (about the pre war era of the Rama-Ravana saga) on the incidents and reason explaining about the smaller episodes with proper justification following the causes. I can mention about some episodes here (just the outline)- Birth history of Hanuman, source of his endless power, Birth of Sugriva and Vali, reason behind the rivalry between these two brothers, significant power of Tara, conversation between Vali & Rama while Vali was taking his last breathe, curse on Hanuman, purpose of Hanuman’s life etc. Ramayana is not just a book, it’s a game, rather circle of life that every person are entangled with. This book teaches us about essential life lessons- about the ever changing cycle of power, vast horizons of gaining knowledge and wisdom, about facing our fears and ways to overcome them, it gives tons and tons of motivational messages throughout the entire book in each single page, and the depth on those messages are beyond description and those life changing quotes are not written randomly, they are written with exact apt relevance with conversation or the interactions in ever chapter and episodes. Thus the author managed to relate the present scenario of life connecting with situations by then. It teaches us to control over feelings, difference between evil choices and good Karma, consequences of betraying, humiliation and disrespecting others, it shows us the right way to behave and to look forward in our lives, to respect everyone equally, to motivate others and to serve mankind. How the lust, the thirst for power can make a person forget about own relations and everything and how it can destroy anyone has been shown here aptly. The power of knowledge, the positive approach towards problems and solving them, everything is clear in the book. We all knew about the inevitable ultimate ending of Adharma (about the ending of Ravana finally) but we’re not aware about the littlest facts that made connection to the ultimate point. These books of the Ramayana series are exactly pointing out and helping readers to realize the signification of this epic with vast depth and more relevantly with own life to make lives better. I will definitely be looking forward to the upcoming two remaining books of this Ramayana series. Kudos to the effort of the author. Drawbacks: Just one tiny printing error in the entire book (page no 160- ‘the’ showed will be ‘he’ showed), otherwise not a single drawback in the book I found to mention about. Recommendation: I will definitely love to recommend this book to all mythology lovers and the ones whole strongly believes in motivational reading. Rating (Overall): 5/5 Stars.
Ramayana- The game of life presents an authentic rendition of the epic in an absolutely modern and riveting manner as mentioned in the author’s note. There is also stated in author’s note that as you flip the pages, one thought is sure to cross your mind. Never has the Ramayana been so applicable in my life. - Well, righly said indeed. There’s one thought or quote at the end of every page as per situation or condition that teaches us a lot. Very useful to take in consider into our life. very thought provoking ideas which make us to think more about our life. I loved all the lessons as displayed as a quotes and I will try to walk with the lessons I learned from here. As it is well stored in bottom of my heart. The story is well known. All knows as it is our great scripture in Hindu mythology. This is the fourth part of the series- “STAND STRONG- keeping faith and conquering fear”. It is mainly about kishkindha kanda. Well, I didn’t read other parts of the same series. I am looking for it. I wish one day I will read out all the parts of the series moreover I would like to read all the other related scriptures too to take into account. I am so much eager and curious to read the whole journey of Shree Rama, Sita mata and Lakshmana. Obviously we know the outline of the story. But there are many more things to know and understand from this book like how and why such incidents happened; what was the reason behind it and how our deities handled critical condition. It teaches us how we should behave. It reminds us our responsibilities towards family and work. It makes us introspect our life and behavior one more time and see the things around us clearly and possibly with the vision of Ramayana. It gives us courage to fight with our demons. It gives us faith to just follow morals. It builds our strength to walk on true path and have a faith on it so one day true will definitely win over the wrong whatever the situation is. Truth has to come forward one day. It also explains us the true values of family and their sacrifice. It also shows us that whatever the odds are there but our deities stood strong in their way. So much to gain from this profound knowledge. Once you start reading the scripture you will realize you didn’t know anything yet and you feel then we are really blessed once that we have started reading as life gave us a chance to read and understand and off course to apply it in our life too. Am I able to review this book! Every powerful characters and every incidents are really wonderful. What I can say! There are a lot and lot things in this epic story, we are just too small to understand and think everything described here. What we can do is to Try. We should try to learn from it by remembering everything told in it everywhere and every day. I must say author has done fabulous job in narrating this epic story. how wonderfully and how simply he tried to wrote everything as all can understand well. He managed to convey the meaning very well. I appreciate his lots of research work in writing this series. he must had spent hours of work to think how to convey the meaning and how to display the situation by every character’s vision, that’s obviously a huge task to show the things smoothly by taking in consideration to all. Thanks to author of this book for such an amazing work. I recommend this book to all the peoples who are readers or non readers but all should read this book once in a lifetime to know our great scripture. Thank You.
The book has really changed my perspective towards mythology, Ramayana, rituals, leadership, relationships, friendship and the list goes on. Each paragraph, each sentence of the book has a power to influence. I am so fascinated by the author's deep knowledge about flora and fauna, mountains and places in India during Tretayug, some places are still at their own places and still holds the purity and importance as earlier. Also the language was lucid, making it easy to read and understand. This is the 4th out of 6th of Ramayan series written by Shubha Vilas, the book has a great impact on me that i am going to buy the 5 remaining books😁. I loved the presentation of the book, each tale has a lesson to learn and recite. The book depicts the time when Hanuman met Lord Rama first time, When Lord Rama kills Vali (Sugriva's brother) At first, he has abruptly walked out without killing him. In the original Ramayana, a specific clarification was not given why Rama does it. It is said that "we lose ourselves in books, we find ourselves there too". Yes, i did found myself in this book, a little part of me in each character, whether it is good or a bad quality. It has also made me understand, everything happens for a reason whether its good or bad and everyone has a purpose of his/her life, basically to serve others. I, approvingly recommend this book to all the people of every age group.
Indian mythology never fails astonishes me everytime I read. This book is no different. The amount of information which is passed over the book is almost immaculate.
The Book Ramayana: Stand Strong is based on the Kishkinda Kanda of Ramayana. The story mainly goes around the two wonder monkey brothers Vali and Sugriv. The plot begins with Rama and Lakshmana entering Rishimuka Parvat and they happen to meet Hanuman, who was the minister of Sugriva.
The story depicts many things how having faith helps you to dethrone your fears and doubts.
The books when read gives a positive vibe to me as a reader and it made me think a lot. There are not many books which create an impact on the reader. I am glad that I read this book
For those who love Ramayan this book is really epic.Fourth book of Shubha Vilas 'stand strong' is really amazing that has the life lesson from Kishkindha Kanda of Valmiki's Ramayan. This one is a page turner and feels that never has the Ramayana been so applicable in our life.
Ramayana : Stand Strong is the fourth book in the Ramayana series by Shubha Vilas which protays the kishkinda kanda of Ramayana. The story starts where Rama and Lakshmana enters rishimuka parvat and happens to meet Hanuman, who was the minister of Sugriva. The story mainly goes around the two wonder monkey brothers Vali and Sugriva. As the subtitle of the book aptly says, keeping faith and conquering fear, the characters in this book show us how to handle tough and challenging situations. The insights give at the end of every page of book are so inspirational. There is nothing to say about the plot as it is based on the Epic book "Ramayana". The cover looks pleasant. The RAMAYANA is not a story. It is a way of life. It is THE GAME OF LIFE. Every reader should try this series. I personally never pick mythology books but I took chance with this book and it turned in my favor. Would like to recommend this book to all book lovers.
Every kid who have been raised in an Indian family would be familiar with the epic mythology, Ramayana and who wouldn't?! Starting from the television serial which used to be aired on every Sunday to hearing tales about Rama from our grandparents to having idols of Hanuman in our homes, we Indian kids have always been exposed to this epic right from our childhood. Even if we may not know it in entirety, we are still familiar with the name and some of the most well-known incidences. Ramayana is a purana which had been written by Valmiki muni several eons ago and is a very important part of Hindu Mythology. There are many life lessons that this epic teaches us and summing up the entire book in a single review is quite difficult.
The book is mainly based on one of the most well-known incidences, Kiskindha Kanda of the original Ramayana written by Valmiki. The narrative begins with the chance meeting between Sugriva and Hanumana. Later on, the encounter of Rama and Hunumana is also talked about in the book. Hanumana has a lot to contribute to this book, from helping Rama to rescuing Sita from the grip of evil Ravana to setting fire to Lanka with his tail.
This book cannot be exactly passed away as another retelling of this epic, instead the correct way to phrase it would be to say that this is written in such a manner so that the incidences and the characters are in accordance with the actual script but the narration and the dialogues are modernized to draw attention from the young audience. It really is an authentic narration of the epic with life lessons, as it says.
I usually steer clear of mythological books. But, this time I thought to give a chance to the genre and I wasn't disappointed at all. Also, the quotes at the bottom of each page were interesting and I would say that I was more interested in reading those quotes than the actual paragraphs! Maybe that what kept me turning the pages!! Nah, I am just kidding!
The narration offers vivid description of the whole incident and the language is fluid and at the same time stresses on the important words for enhancement. All in all, I loved the narration.
The readers who are not at all into reading mythology or doesn't have any prior knowledge of the actual script might not like it much. This book is specifically written to cater to a particular group of readers but those who want to challenge themselves or wants to divulge into this particular genre can start with this book, or more correctly start with the first book in this series. Yes, it's a series of 4 books and though each of them can be considered as stand-alones, it is better to start right from the first book. Still, if one wants to read this directly, they can do it too.
The book has quite a number of pages, so, if you are looking for a quick read, this book might not be a good choice. If you're going to pick this book, you should have enough time in your hand. It's better to take breaks when you're reading this otherwise you might get a little bit bored, especially if you are not taken by mythology.
MY FINAL VERDICT –
Though the plotline is of the epic Purana, it would be rightly categorised as a self-help/philosophical read. So, if you are looking for a book that could clear your thoughts and offer you direction, this book can prove to be a motivating read.
I have been an ardent follower of Ramayana – The Game of Life series, not only because I love reading Indian mythologies, but also because the author Subha Vilas imparts the tales with such lucidity that one seems to be witnessing the story on a first person basis. Along with the fluent narration, Subha Vilas also adds lessons based on the learning from the epic that we can apply to our day to day activities.
‘Stand Strong’ takes the story forward from its prequels, ‘Roar With Courage’ (Book 1), ‘Conquer Change’ (Book 2) and ‘Adopt Patience’(Book 3). As the title suggests, this book imparts the message to be strong and wise in all adversities. The story starts with Rama and Lakshmana’s search for Sita, which takes them to the Rishimukh mountain range. Here, they are spotted by Nala, Nila and Taru, who failed to recognize them and rushed towards Sugriva to warn him of upcoming danger. Thus commences the Kishkinda Kand of Ramayana, which revolves primarily around the vanaras and how they serve Rama in his mission.
‘Stand Stronng’ also introduces one of the most loved characters of Ramayana, Hanuman. We get to know about his birth, childhood, and the boons and curses he went through, in crisp details. We are made aware of his journey, his powers and his prowess. Hanuman is humble and despite being more powerful than Sugriva, he has no qualms in serving the latter. He performs his duties with utmost sincerity, and can rightly be considered as the backbone of this great epic.
The fight scene between Vali and Sugriva is one of the key highlights of this book. Initially, one might be apprehensive towards Rama’s judgement and his actions during the fight between the two brothers, but as we read along, we understand the deeper meanings of Rama’s deeds. We realize how he analyses the situations, and like a true leader, he knows what would be the right decision for a particular course. However, there are moments when Rama feels low and disheartened with the loss of Sita. He misses her with the change of seasons, comparing her and their love with beautiful metaphorical references to the world around. At such times, his brother and able companion Lakshmana provides him mental support, urging him to have patience and be calm and strong.
As always, Subha Vilas does full justice to the epic. He has narrated the events in such details and with utmost beauty that the readers will be transported to that divine world. The characterization is perfect, with every protagonist in the book being provided with their own space to grow and form an image in the mind of the readers. We, while reading the book, find ourselves questioning the actions and the deeds of the characters, forming our own judgments. This indicates how well the author has managed to create a connect with the readers.
Though I have been familiar with the basic premise of the Ramayana, it’s still a delight reading this version, an added plus point being the numerous back stories and anecdotes which we are not aware of, but which still play integral roles in the development of the plot. This is a must read for all lovers of mythology, and for those who are not, this book might well be able to pique their interest towards this field.
Just when I was wondering why it took so long for the fourth book in the series of Ramayana : The Game Of Life books, good guys at Jaico Books sent in their email, and after a couple of days, here it was. The awaited fourth installment in the series where Ramayana is presented as it is, without any deviation and variation, yet so differently translated that it makes a perfect self-help book you need to your side. For background of this series, take a look at my posts on previous three books. (1, 2, 3).
First look at the cover and I was surprised. How this fourth book onwards a new design philosophy has been adapted by the publishers. The earlier books were good looking no doubt, but from this one onwards, it improves itself to higher notch. Fabulously minimally designed cover grabs the attention at first look. And now the title emphasizes on the theme of the current volume. Stand Strong. Yes, that's where the story has reached now.
After losing Sita, Ram Lakshan meet Sugriv and Hanuman. How Ram wins back Sugriva's lost empire in return of favor to find Sita. How Sugriva forms troops of millions and trillions monkeys to find her and how the troops keep their morale high despite of continued failures. This storyline, is the crux of the volume and this time it does better the past all books. Yes, this is the most interesting and unputdownable volume of the series. The way writer Shubha Vilas chooses to tell the tale, selected scenes, that unfolds in dramatic way and creating altogather different universe.
Like, going to all length in describing the mammoth troops of monkeys, the exquisite route each troop has taken, amazingly detailed description of the route described by Sugriva. The encounters of them with legends and magical lands. Everything makes me wonder why do we admire Tolkein a lot and ignore such fictional world created by our very own ancestors. That too, mostly oral history that got penned much later.
The key highlight of this series, shines again in this volume. The wisdom on the basis of this timeless tale. Wisdom at almost each page, as a footnote, describes the points flawlessly and effectively. Sample these - "Excess fear leads to rebellion. Excess indulgence leads to disease. Excess comfort leads to lethargy. Excess power leads to arrogance. Excess of anything, however good it may seem, only tugs one toward the bad." "Maturity is the peaceful acceptance of reality that gives one the ability to tolerate instead of agitate".
Many more such gems makes this book stand out when we see all the mytho-fictions are popping around us. And that, makes this book a unique effort.
Going back to the roots, is always a pleasant experience. And this book takes you just there. To the land where Rama walked, Hanuman jumped and great battles fought. And for that, you need to Stay Strong, which this book teaches us how.
The author has beautifully penned down history with the deep inner meanings wrapped within them. The plot adapted from “The Kishkindha Kanda” of the original Ramayana written by Valmiki, tells us that our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous?' Actually, who are you not to be? Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as Ram did. We were born to make manifest the glory of Ramayana that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others. The plot also tries to portray life from a very different perspective. I really loved the elements of positivity which the plot demonstrated. It’s important that what thoughts you are feeding into your mind because your thoughts create your belief and experiences. You have positive thoughts and you have negative ones too. Nurture your mind with positive thoughts: kindness, empathy, compassion, peace, love, joy, humility, generosity, etc. The more you feed your mind with positive thoughts, the more you can attract great things into your life.
I would admit one thing which I had learnt after reading the book “I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”
Stand Strong, in particular, is based on the Kishkindha Kanda, which is one of the important episodes in the Valmiki Ramayana. The episode captures the period, ranging from Rama’s meeting with Hanumana and vanara sena to the prelude of Hanumana’s invasion to Lanka – the grand Asura capital reigned by the mighty Raksha Raavan. It is a beautifully written book covering even the most intricate details of the period, with context to the making and evolution of all major characters that play an important role in deciding the outcome of Rama-Ravana saga, dubbed as the Good-over-Evil win.
Stand Strong by Shubha Vilas is much more than a chronological account of a period. It features a number of small anecdotes, mythological accounts and dialogues of all associated events that shaped this pre-war era before the inevitable climax. Believe me, you cannot help but wonder about the virgin terrains this book would take you to.
If the stories are interesting, the narration is mesmerizing too. It simple flows. Easy on brain and soothing to heart. It seems to be written exactly the way Ramayana’s original creator would have written it in Sanskrit. Because, that is the way the epics, with a religious significance, should be written and be told.
I liked the book and I am sure people with a taste in Indian mythology would like it. And, for people who are still to read about it, Shubha’s books can be a fitting beginning. Overall, I recommend this book. Read it. It will not disappoint you. There is something or other to learn for anyone from this Game of Life.
Scriptures have so much wisdom encsconced in them. Often, we are intimidated by their magnanimous volume, that we do not bother to read them in detail. Therefore the messages underneath them remain hidden forever. But the solutions to life's numerous problems lie in the scriptures.
'Stand Strong ' is a modernized narration of Kishkinda Kanda. Kishkinda Kanda narrates episodes on the ordeal of Lord Rama trying to assess Sita's whereabouts, defeat of the egoistic king Vali and the fulfillment of Hanuman's pursuit of seeking his true master.
The narration is subtle and powerful enough to create ripples of change in your life. The reasons for the major decisions undertaken by Lord Rama are enunciated at the end of the chapters. Relatively lesser known tales are narrated in first person perspective of the characters. The loyalty of Lakshmana and the devotion of Hanuman towards Rama are articulated beautifully with the help of Sanskrit verses and monologues. Unsung heroes emerge in the course of the story. The footnotes given at the end of the page are pearls of wisdom. The cover is aesthetically pleasing, radiating positive vibes. The language is lucid and brings out the author's literary prowess. At no point, you will feel bored but will be carried away by the riveting stories.
'Stand Strong' projects a new perspective on life and offers insights on overcoming various challenges thrown at us. It also repeatedly emphasises how lessons of Ramayana can be implemented in real life. The book doesn't glorify a specific religion but rather preaches the teachings of the epic.
This book, as the name suggests, has really proved to be an Inspirational read. This book, in other words, can be compared to a mirror, the mirror of life. The mirror, which reflects our lives, only in a better way, where we are the constants but all the negativities turn positive, where our dilemmas find a solution, where the closed door opens up to show a way.
The story of Ramayana is not only familiar to us but also embedded in our mind and soul. Through this book, the author retells the same story of Ramayana but in a different way, highlighting it's moral and life enriching values. This book can be seen as a source of motivation that'll inculcate and nourish spiritual values within a person. The book will literally entice its readers to delve into its depths and explore the hidden treasure. The narration deserves special mention. I was mesmerized at the way the whole story is narrated. This story will linger in your mind long after you've finished reading.
The cover is beautiful. The title is perfect. The narration is so wonderful. The theme is so well chosen. The story runs at a steady pace. In short, everything is just perfect.

Well, I really really loved this book. You just can't afford to miss it.
If a book is written by Shubha Vilas, what can the readers expect? Yes, a motivational and positive book that is encouraging as well as enlightening. Ramayana: Stand Strong is just what you expect from this motivational speaker and author. It is the epic Ramayana presented in the most inspiring and motivating way. Retelling is not the word to explain the book. It is more like a narration of the incidences in a way so that the readers of modern era can comprehend them easily. The book is mainly based on one of the most well-known incidences, Kishkindha Kanda of the original Ramayana written by Valmiki. Many events from this part of Ramayana are narrated in the book. The book offers an easy way to look at life with a new perspective. It helps the seekers or people interested in reading spiritual or self help books get a clearer picture about life and get a meaningful direction. The narration is engaging with vivid description of the incidents. The language is fluid and simple which makes it very easy to read and understand. The cover of the book is just appropriate considering its theme. And the title; catchy. Overall, the book is a great read and is recommended to those who want to either learn more about the epic Ramayana or are looking for some inspirational read.
Ramayan, the game of life: Stand Strong by Shubha Vilas is a book with one of the simplest principles of life that “life is not easy with it own concepts, one has to be strong to face and fight with it” as its name describes.
Author has described the meaning of life with a beautiful example. He has described it amazingly by adopting an epic scene from the original Ramayan by Valmiki about the “Kishkindha Kanda”.
It is a book wrapped with positivity in it. It’s all elements of true life have changed my thoughts as well as my way of thinking and living completely. It is proved to be a turning point of my life. All because of its positive principles towards life. Now i am looking to my life from a different perspective.
After reading it i admit that “fear is the Dreadful Thing for our inner peace, we must face it and permit it to go through us and mustn’t give up, then you will see what is left; only a person with all good deeds”. The book teaches us that what we feed our mind with, may be with positive thoughts or negative thoughts , it becomes our actions and experiences. Though we should always be positive because that is when we are transforming our destiny.
It was a motivational as well as inspirational book a righteousness seeker must read it.
There are books that uplift you and hold you through storms , this book is one of those. Ramayana has been written over and over again but this one has a different perspective and teaching to tell us. This book keeps you hooked at all times. Starting from the cover itself it is so calming. The blurb gives just the right amount to keep you interested. A long read yes, but really beautiful. The way it is narrated and each event is properly explained plus every page has glossary to explain all the meanings to one. It is a self help plus a story book. This book gives you so much more clarity about life and your current situations. It will make you wise and much more satified with life. Language is easy to understand. The book has alot to offer as you delve in. It is not necessary only for sprituality readers to read this book but it is made for the masses to gain wisdom and root alot more to themselves. It is a series of 4 books one can read this book directly or can even be read from the start. The plot rotates around the main characters from ramayana. this one is based from kingdom of vali.
In THE RAMAYANA, it defines about the life in a whole different way. Shubha Vilas has created something more than the authentic narration about the epic life lesson with a new perspective. Some key points in the book are relatively about life which we all follow and sometimes not, but in actuality, it is the reality which may be someday we accept.
In overall view, the book describes about the whole new situations from the past history till date and may be the future comings that is the fact. Life is never easy, accepting the flaws and moving on makes it worthy. Every person has their own perspective about the life, the situations and the circumstances, never get weaker on your end. Life is cruel, until you fight for it and with it.
This book is a motivattion I was been looking for reading and this is making me a better person everyday. I would say one more thing that- "Pain is painful when the results are not in your favour, after succeeding, it becomes worth it."
