Rate this book
The day Geeta was married, two men came into her life. One was her husband, Rajesh, who denied her nothing and loved her passionately. The other was a friend of his who she heard of at parties and social gathering but never chanced to meet. More than a year had gone by and he still remained a name.
Then, one rainy night in July at a small gathering, a man entered the room. Instinctively she knew that it was he.

An Expression of Two Eyes is about four months in the life of Geeta Chawla following her meeting with Anup Khanna. It is not just a saga of two persons attracted to each other but explores what love means to different people at different times and situation. The brief incident takes her through many aspects of love that changes her entire understanding of human relationship.

An Expression of Two Eyes is my second read by the author, Pali Reen, the first being Letter From Dad. I definitely liked this one better than the first, yet, I have some mixed feelings about this one.

The story is set in the 70s in Delhi. Geeta is newly married to Rajesh and is just settling down when she meets the ever popular, Anup Khanna. She had only heard of Anup from people but when she lays eyes on him, something changes. Same is the case with Anup. The charmer that he is, Anup finds himself being conscious and different in front of Geeta. So smitten is he that he cannot resist offering a job to her at his firm. A married woman, a single but popular man, the husband and their emotional circumstances is what the story is about.

I shall get straight to the point. What I liked about the book was the depth of emotions displayed by the characters. Certainly, the author has dwelled into the characters to have put up such an extensive array of emotions. The story line is not much but the thoughts and feelings, those are what makes the story. A well thought out book, in my opinion.

The story revolves around three main characters – Geeta, Anup and Rajesh. At first, I wondered why there was so much stress and detailing along their love lives but later realized that it was required to showcase the characters.

Having said that, I, personally, am not a big admirer of too many sentiments and emotions being discussed (am a bit impatient, like that!). The story, for me, was a cobweb of emotions running through the character’s minds, and it was a bit too much for the fast paced admirer in me. Nevertheless, the book was never boring at any point.

Since I have read two books from the author, I think I can safely say that Pali Reen is a writer who loves to linger in and around human emotions and that is great. So if you are a reader who lives for these kind of stories, then An Expression of Two Eyes is for you!
