I’m a sucker for a SEAL. Throw in the paranormal element and how can I not want to immediately dive into the plot? In Sweet Sacrifice, L.D. Rose did an incredible job of blending romance, suspense, intrigue, mythology, religion and the paranormal. Sounds like a total blast, right?
Bash Lockard died while in tour in Afghanistan after jumping onto a live grenade to save his team. He was a brave and honorable man, who was survived by the love of his life - his wife, Irene. Irene was still mourning her husband and while it had been two years since his death, she couldn’t move on. When her best friend gets married, she stands at her side as Matron of Honor, although the last place she wants to be is at a wedding. But wait… over there… that face… it couldn’t be… yet that man is a dead ringer for her dead husband! Bash is back but he’s still dead. He still can’t be with his soul mate. Why? He’s answered to a higher calling… okay, he’s a freaking ANGEL!! A demon-fighting, earth-protecting, hot AF ANGEL!! Surely fate can find a way for these lovers to be reunited. Right?! Well, for them to be together once again, Bash would have to make the largest sacrifice of all. Is the sacrifice too great to have his love back?
Goodness, this story was amazing! It was short but it didn’t feel like it was lacking anything despite its length. Bash was a hero I could completely get behind and although Irene annoyed me a bit with her reactions, I kinda got it. How the heck would I react in a similar circumstance? No clue. So who the heck am I to judge, right? I was all set to find out how these two would get together but I felt bad about what the sacrifice was. Regardless, Bash and Irene were insanely hot together and their chemistry, both physically and emotionally was off-the-charts. Is it crazy that I started falling for Gabriel? I wonder how we could convince the author to continue along this line and give us a little something for him too ;)
Release Date: September 13, 2017 Genre: Paranormal Romance POV: Dual - 3rd person Heat: 3.5 out of 5 Type: Standalone - Book 9 of the Soul Mate Tree series

How far would you go for your soulmate? Could your risk condemning your eternal soul?
There is nothing better than a love that transcends all! We say we would give up everything for the one we love, but could we give up our eternal future for an unknown result?
L.D. Rose’s SWEET SACRIFICE is a testament to the power of true love and the pain not being able to share it can bring. It is also a tale of friendship and prioritizing commitments…okay, okay, SWEET SACRIFICE just happens to have some hot angels and just maybe some passionate steam rising off the pages! Ms. Rose has done a fabulous job of creating a world where high tension, romance and heartbreak, even in the “perfect” world of angels is pretty consistently human. (Speaking of those angels, wow)
Are you holding out for a hero, “that guy” that loves true? Wings or not, Bash is pretty sigh worthy and his story is romantic bliss.
I received an ARC edition from L.D. Rose. My review is voluntary!
This book was far too upsetting for me – I’d picked it up on principle without reading the synopsis because L.D. Rose is one of my favourite authors and let’s be honest here, I’m really lazy.
I didn’t realise that the author was going to take a bat to my emotions and live off my tears (unconfirmed rumours report that she lives off tears, she may just revel in them) when I opened this book, but it became clear that this was the case early on in the book.
The main character, Bash, is a former Navy SEAL who died in the course of duty and is now working on the side of angels in a war against demons. Firstly, I knew that Navy SEAL romance was a trope but this is the first one I’ve ever read – I kinda like it, it automatically assumes that the hero is honourable and there will be some violence (both are perks in my mind).
The angel thing didn’t entirely work for me, just because I’m not a huge fan of angels as a concept. Why I’m happy with demons and vampires, but not angels is a mystery for another day. I will point out that this book wasn’t religious in any way, or to my mind, blasphemous, so…. there’s that.
The writing style is so compelling, as always, which is why I devoured this book all in one. It’s a mix of paranormal and mundane reality to highlight the magical bits and romance. It’s a solid love between two normal people, cut short by tragedy. What’s especially refreshing is that the couple is already married, so there’s none of the ‘getting to know each other’ stage which I know some people find tedious.
What devastated me about this book was the stark reality of grief. Irene lost her husband to war two years ago and she can still barely function, knowing that there are millions of women out there like her that will never see their loved ones again breaks my heart. It’s also the reason I can’t watch war films or documentaries…. and don’t think I’ll be able to read another soldier romance again!
This is another great book from the author and I would highly recommend it for fans of romance, especially paranormal romance, who enjoy a good tearjerker!
Bash saved his comrades when he jumped on a grenade during a mission in Afghanistan. He willingly died knowing that the others would live. He served his country with pride and honor and after his death he became an angel. Now he’s fighting monsters and demons to keep the world safe. Bash never stopped loving his wife Irene, but he knows that he can’t interfere with her life on earth. The day he sees Irene dancing with another man on a wedding he can’t deny his feelings any longer. He’s missed her so much, only how can he go back to her when she thinks he has been dead for two years? Will Bash make the ultimate sacrifice for the life he thought he could no longer have?
Irene has been mourning the death of her husband. He was her true love and her hero. She still thinks about their time together every single day. Irene and Bash are soul mates and I loved to read about how passionately they love each other. Bash is a stunning man with a bad temper and he dislikes all the rules of the angel realm. He loves his angel brothers and sisters, but he still aches for his human life. I fell in love with Bash immediately. He’s so sweet and caring to his loved ones but also a badass warrior. I loved this contrast in his character, it makes the story really interesting.
Sweet Sacrifice is a beautiful story about a love so pure and true that it even brings an angel to his knees. It has a fast pace and is full of action. This kept me on the edge of my seat. I found myself using every minute I could find to read another paragraph. I carried my kindle everywhere. I have been hooked on the way L.D. Rose writes ever since I read The Order of The Senary series and I couldn’t wait to read Bash and Irene’s story. I’m a big fan of L.D. Rose's writing and I highly recommend any of her books.
I cannot begin to explain how much I adore L.D Rose’s The Order of the Senary series. Without a doubt, it’s one of my favourite paranormal romance series. Which is saying something, when you stop to think of how only two of the books have been released thus far. It’s a sure sign you’re a goner when you’re as addicted as I am so quickly. Knowing how much I adore The Order of the Senary series, it should come as no surprise to hear I jumped at Sweet Sacrifice as soon as I had the chance.
Sweet Sacrifice is the ninth book in The Soul Mate Tree Collective. It’s a series of standalone novellas, one for each month for thirteen months. We’re promised a collection of wonderful stories, all linked back to the soul mate tree. Thus far, I have read the first three novellas in the collective. The first three novellas – Realm of the Dragon, Can’t Stop the Music, and Between Venus & Mars – were all wonderful reads. I thoroughly enjoy them all, each offering something very different. I also have the fourth novella – The Trail to Love – on my Kindle, ready for me to dive into soon. Despite having novella number four on my Kindle, I had to read Sweet Sacrifice first. L.D. Rose is one of those authors I will willing bump up my to-read list. I needed to know what happened in Sweet Sacrifice, and I needed a fresh dose of L.D. Rose.
Sweet Sacrifice is a wonderful addition to The Soul Mate Tree Collective. This isn’t just my L.D. Rose bias speaking – it’s a fact that I need to state. The story is wonderful, playing with so many of your emotions throughout. Honestly, it’s a truly wonderful read. It had the trademarks I have come to recognise as pure L.D. Rose, along with offering a range of things we have yet to experience in The Order of the Senary series. Without a doubt, this story really shows off what L.D. Rose is capable of.
If you’re a fan of L.D. Rose, you need to pick this one up. If you’re a fan of The Soul Mate Tree Collective, you need to pick this one up. If you’re new to either, you cannot go wrong with picking this one up.
Sweet Sacrifice will be a difficult read for a number of people – it is a fact people need to be aware of in advance. Our male lead has made the greatest sacrifice possible – he gave his own life to save his brothers in arms. Sometimes authors fail to hit the right tone when telling soldier’s stories, yet this one is deeply emotional. There is a certain point in this story where things become overly emotional, where the details are shared, and people need to be warned of this. Not because there is a lot of gore, but because of how heavy the emotions are. There is no denying it will play with your heartstrings.
In addition to this deeply emotional story, L.D. Rose delivers a fantastic supernatural storylines. I like to think you can never go wrong with angels and demons, but you can. There are more bad stories out there than I care to accept. Sweet Sacrifice is not one of them. The classics of angel and demon stories can be found within this one, along with enough new stuff being introduced to make the story unique. You’re quickly pulled into the supernatural world, coming to love the world building and the characters.
My favourite aspect of this story was the way L.D. Rose kept us guessing until the very end. I once read an interview where a romance author spoke of how happily ever afters are a must. Romance is escapism, the fairy tale everyone is looking for. We expect to see rainbows and butterflies. L.D. Rose had me seriously doubting this. In the back of my mind, I was cursing the soul mate tree. It had to work – it just had to. Yet L.D. Rose had me seriously worried. The tension really does build in this regard. Mix it in with all the heavy emotions involved in the overall storyline, and you’re left a tight ball of tension throughout.
Without a doubt, this was a wonderful read. I cannot recommend this one enough, as it truly is beautiful.
L.D. Rose drew me into a fantastical world of angels, friendship, and love... and not any kind of love, but true love. A love that is stronger than death. A love that has the power to bear all things.
Battles, betrayals, danger, a panty-melting chemistry and a forbidden love abound. I was never bored while reading Sweet Sacrifice. Bash & Irene's journey kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. Rose knows her way around this genre, her world-building is addictive. I can't wait to read more from her.
"He would show her just how much her life meant to him."
There's no doubt I fell in love with an angel... or two. Here's hoping the author gives us more from a certain angel called Gabriel.
Short but powerful, Sweet Sacrifice will definitely satisfy paranormal romance lovers.
*The author was kind enough to give me an ARC for this review*
Why is it harder to write a review about a book that I love, over writing a scathing review on one that I hate? Maybe because I couldn't find a damn thing wrong here, perhaps? Anyway...I love this story! I read it twice. I'm sure that I will be reading it again - and again - in the future. With this being my fourth read by L.D. Rose, she is in my top five, period. 'Sweet Sacrifice' is an awesome paranormal romance, with a PERFECT BALANCE of romance, intrigue, magic, intense steamy sex, nasty fight scenes, and humor. The H/h were real people, perfect in all of their human flaws. Very likeable. (I didn't feel like killing them off). Along with Sebastian and Irene, there was an assortment of good friends, gorgeous kick-ass angels, and nasty evil monsters from hell. Some of the scenes had me - a hard-hearted Hatty - teary-eyed. They were written that well. 5 flaming stars!
So, I’ve been waffling over this review for the last oh...48 hours or so, and it hasn’t been because I didn’t like the story, but because I thoroughly enjoyed it and the words that I’ve attempted to put down just haven’t been good enough. Not necessarily a good thing when it comes to doing the reviewer thing, but such is the case. So we’re going to try doing the brain drain method instead and see what comes of it.
In a lot of ways Sweet Sacrifice was everything I was expecting. A nice compact second chance at love in a paranormal world novella. The writing was clean and the pacing was very good. What I didn’t expect was the emotional gut punch this one ended up laying on me. From the description I knew that Bash & Irene’s story would pull at my heartstrings, but what I ended up feeling went well beyond that. I really liked both of them and because of that I hurt for both of them. For what they had, what they lost and how devastating the aftermath was for both of them. Their grief jumped off the page and barreled straight through me. It was a strange mix of unexpected and yet welcome at the same time.
But while their grief was quite potent the story wasn’t drowning in sorrow. There was a good balance of humor, sweetness and smexyness and even some great action scenes as Irene and Bash found their way back to each other. I really liked how Heaven and Hell were laid out and wouldn’t mind revisiting it in the future, especially since I’d love to have more of Gabriel. So, if you’re in the mood for a quick PNR read with heart, then this one is for you!

Independent reviewer for Archaeolibraian – I Dig Good Books
Wowswers. This book was heavy, so heavy. It was full of so many emotions I just can’t fully verbalize the way they made me feel. It was intense. It was a beautifully well-told story. I really enjoyed this story. I enjoyed everything about it; the characters, the plot, the details, and descriptions The descriptions in this really made it bone chilling at times. It left you with goosebumps. It left you with your heart in your throat. It made me second guess book vs reality. Perfection! This is the first time reading anything by L.D. Rose and I’m incredibly impressed. It was a great one to start off with and if you haven’t read it before, I suggest that you should. Just be prepared and have some tissues handy. I’d definitely read this again and it has made me want to search out for some other stories written by the author, in hopes of finding another gem!
*A Copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book and my comments here are my honest opinion.
I usually don't read paranormal romance, it is just not my thing, so I tend to avoid, but when I got an opportunity to review this book, I read a bunch of great things about L.D. Roses's work, so I gave it a go. Well... let me tell you... I will certainly read explore more of this genre. I tried to find words to describe this book, and came up with intense, captivating, powerful... and just simply great! There are demons and angels, and a wonderful combo of paranormal and romance. I really don't want to spoil too much for all you readers, since I think you should just get into this completely blind. Don't read the reviews, just pick this up. You won't be sorry.
Y’all, if you are in the mood for an emotional book, jam packed with action and angels (yes, angels), then look no further because Sweet Sacrifice is the one for you.
I had the honor to beta read this for the author a while back and I fell in love with it then. I couldn’t wait to read this again, to be honest. I mean, come on! A war hero who died and became an angel. What can be a better protagonist than that?
Speaking of which...
If you are on lookout for a new book boyfriend who can also moonlight as a guardian angel, may I present to you Sebastian? I’m pretty sure that I can share him with you...
Heaven is not all that it seems and Bash is recruited by the angels we all grew up knowing. There is a constant war on earth unbeknownst to humans and Bash and his fellow angels must fight to keep humanity safe.
I just loved this premise. The book starts out with fast paced action (in a zoo, no less) and a world building that makes it seem so real. The infusion of dark paranormal aspects like demons, amp up the volume and made me all the more invested in the cause that Bash was fighting for. Page after page I was kept on my toes because I seriously wanted to know what would happen next. When Irene is introduced, I felt so sad for her. Bash was her husband and she can’t let go of the past. The feels y’all, the feels is what you will get, and a lot of it. L.D. Rose will expertly reel you in and make you love the characters that she creates.
Also, there’s that lovely bit of forbidden romance, because really, an angel can’t be involved with a human, right? But it’s when I finally realized how the title of the book incorporated with the story, was when it clinched it for me. I seriously love this world.
The dialogue and great friendship between Bash and fellow angel Gabriel, does not make it all about glorious angels and their glorious wings (Which I would love to touch btw LOL), but the fact that angels do have their problems too, in their own gritty world of fighting.
Despite this being listed as Soul Mate Tree #9, this does read as a standalone. The other books in this series are different stories by different authors. But I could totally go for more angels in the future...
**Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy of this book.**
What a great story about second chances!
This is now the third book I've read of this series and I must say that every one has impressed me so far. Each book is written by a different author but all with the same soul mate theme. This one was a paranormal romance whereas the others were contemporary or historical so there is certainly a variety of sub-genres available.
In this story, we have Irene, a widow who is having a hard time moving on after the death of her husband. She has a lot of regrets about the condition of their marriage just before he died and her best friend's upcoming wedding is just another painful reminder of the marriage she lost and the man who is gone. That is, until a little girl puts a spark of hope back into her life.
Bash might have sacrificed himself to save his fellow soldiers but it's the loss of his wife that hurts the most. And it's even worse knowing she still exists on the same planet he now roams while hunting demons. So when he spots her again, it goes against everything in his angelic being to stay away from her. Even if it costs him his immortal future, he will do anything to have just one more moment with the woman he loves.
This was a nice read. I have a love/hate relationship with angel and demon themed stories. If there is too much background given on the angels and their duties, I tend to lose interest. I'm just not into reading religious books and some of them get way too into that element of of the story. I'm happy to say that this one doesn't do that. There is mention of archangels and some backstory but it isn't loaded down with it. There was a good balance.
The plot moves steadily along and I was happy to see the romance didn't take long to come into play. Since our couple know each other and had a prior relationship, there is an emotional bond already existing. I love reading second chance stories because we get to skip straight to the good parts.
And boy does this romance have some good parts. *wink* There is a good amount of naughty time happening. I think our couple's first reunion was by far my favorite scene of the whole book. It literally gave me chills. I could easily see this turned into a movie and that scene would be a powerful one.
In closing... I am definitely open to reading more books in this series. I've yet to be disappointed. 4.5 suns!
Sweet Sacrifice is a second chance romance with a paranormal twist. Bash was married to the love of his life, Irene, but he was killed in action in Afghanistan. Now, he is a demon slaying angel! But Irene is unable to move on after his death. There is a way they could have another shot....
I so desperately wanted Irene and Bash to be together again but I was terrified to find out what the 'sacrifice' would have to be. Their story made my heart hurt! Added to that is the action of Bash's demon slaying with the other angel, Gabriel. So, there is a lot going on! Gabriel and Bash have a great friendship that made the whole situation even more difficult. If Bash gets back to his wife, will he have to give up his friendship with Gabriel?
The story blends the idea of soulmates and deep love with angels and demons, theology, and friendship. Rose writes beautifully and the words are all perfectly written to give you so much emotion. All the feels, man!
POV: 3rd Tears: no Trope: second chance, angels/demons Triggers: none Series/Standalone: stand alone (even though the book says its #9, that is just in the anthology; its not actually the #9th book in an LD Rose series) Cliffhanger: HEA:
other angel romances like Fallen by Lauren Kate, Inescapable by Amy Bartol, Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick...then you will probably like Sweet Sacrifice!

I’d received a MOBI.file copy of this book from the author as a giveaway during week 2 of this year’s The Romance Reviews Anniversary Party and the following is my honest opinion.
Finding a romance, a romance which is a HEA which every woman desires to achieve in the area of love. Irene Lockard is the woman in this delightfully written emotional paranormal novel, and Navy SEAL Sebastian "Bash" Lockard is her soulmate.
Being the committed soldier, he is, Bash didn’t hesitate one iota to save his buddies on the Afghanistan battlefield they were fighting on, by covering a grenade with his own body. Naturally, this made him a hero in everyone’s eyes, including the eyes of the Archangel Michael, who decided to make Bash one of his own, an Angel Warrior. But, this honor came with a price, for Bash had to give up Irene, his soulmate for eternity.
Fate, has a way of stepping in, either to create happiness or havoc, and even though Bash is an angel now, didn’t mean he couldn’t be affected by it. Being obedient Bash had no problem in following the rules he’d been given, that I until fate brought him face to face with his former wife, Irene, who he unquestionably still loves, one night. And with a love like this, there’s no way he couldn’t refuse her attraction, nor the human cravings he still has for her to be in his arms.
For Irene, this night, although extremely memorable, once he disappears; leaves her wondering if it had all been a dream. Even though Bash has been a valuable member of heaven’s army here on earth, keeping all us mortals safe; he’s transgressed against the rules, and must paid the consequences of his actions for his moment of weakness to be in Irene’s arms once again.
What will this price be? Will he be allowed to return to earth as a human? If he does return, will it create a morbid fear for Irene about losing him again if he goes back to being a soldier.
With this story of making a sacrifice for love, I couldn’t help but listen to Shirley Bassey sing “What I Did for Love” in my mind:
Kiss the day goodbye The sweetness and the sorrow We did what we had to do And I can't regret what I did for love What I did for love
Look my eyes are dry The dream was ours to borrow It's as if we always knew But I won't forget what I did for love What I did for love
Gone, love is never gone As we travel on, love's what we'll remember
Kiss the day goodbye And point me toward tomorrow Wish me luck, the same to you Won't regret, can't forget what I did for love What I did for love What I did for love
For having given me and her readers, an emotional reading experience, I’m giving this book and its author, Ms. Rose, 5 STARS.
The Soul Mate Tree series is a multi-author series the common denominator for the whole series is the soul mate tree, it helps the soul mates find one another. I love second chance romance stories where it's a married couple getting a second chance, in this instance Bash and Irene were separated by death. It's emotional and heartbreaking but the ending just makes you feel so good. L.D. has great imagery, her active setting is so good, her words made picturing it in my head so easy.
Bash was a SEAL he gave his life to protect his teammates, in his death he was chosen by Michael to become an archangel and help fight the never ending war with evil. Irene was devastated by her husband's death, even now two years later she's still just a hollow shell of what she use to be, it doesn't help that she is preparing to be the maid of honor for her best friend who is marrying one of her husband's former SEAL teammates.
The book starts off with Bash and Gabriel saving the San Diego Zoo from a a Deava. The public saw armed men open fire and two other men disarm them in the matter of seconds. Irene was working in the ER and was treating a woman whose young daughter said they were saved by an angel, and when the little girl caught a glimpse of Irene's phone with a picture of Bash on it the little girl said the was the angel who saved her. Later when she saw the news coverage she could swear that one of the men was in fact Bash. After a couple of days Irene has almost convinced herself that it could not have been Bash and tries to enjoy her best friends wedding without having a break down. Bash isn't having it any easier, a year in purgatory and a year with the arcs and the pain of losing her hasn't eased and trying to prove himself to Michael isn't easy. It could have just been chance or even fate that Bash saw Irene that night, and Irene saw him too. Irene fearing for her own mental stability leaves the wedding reception. Bash couldn't stay away, he reveals himself to Irene and breaks just about every rule set in place for the archangels. One thing is certain Bash isn't going to be kept apart from Irene ever again.
Overall, such a heartbreakingly beautiful story. Irene is so emotionally broken she forces herself to go on and Bash even though he loves what he does as an arc he loves Irene so much more. It's a great story of what we would do for love and how much it hurts when it's gone.
I know I've mentioned this before, but I'm super picky about paranormal romance books. So much so that you'll hardly ever see them on my "read" stack. I'm not a snob, but I've read some really bad ones, so I tend to stay away. However, when L.D. Rose approached me a while ago with an opportunity to read and review Releasing the Demons, I took the chance - and it paid off. I loved it.
I didn't even hesitate to grab Sweet Sacrifice and again, she didn't disappoint. This time we're taken to the realm of demons vs. angels, heaven vs. purgatory, firm vs. firmament. And ultimately, the struggle of a man trying to balance fighting for mankind while still having his heart solidly in the waking world.
Sebastian (Bash) and Irene weren't done living their fairy tale when tragedy intervened and left both of them alone and separate from each other. But like two halves of a beating heart, they knew they'd never be whole without their missing piece. The pair were both making the best of it, moving forward, although never really moving on.
When I read a story about true soulmates, I can't help but get choked up, and I definitely did while reading Sweet Sacrifice. Just lovely, and it felt anchored in reality, while still being spiritual and fantastical. When I say spiritual, I don't mean religious - because this book is HAWT. Not erotica, but there are definitely some sheet burning scenes contained within.
I'm giving Sweet Sacrifice four "temporary tattoo" stars.
I’m a huge fan of paranormal romance and paranormal series. That said I haven’t found a short paranormal romance fulfilling UNTIL Sweet Sacrifice. The story it’s so well written, so enchanting. I’m in love with Linda’s world. She sure made me gasp and tear up with this brilliant love story. Was completely breathtaking and swoon worthy. The lovemaking absolutely SENSUAL. You will get hot and bother with Bash ministration of Reen’s body. The fight scenes on point making sure you get transported into the battle field. I wish there were more of this world. One story wasn’t enough for me
A bit about the story. Sebastian “Bash” Lockard was a SEAL in the USA Army that perish in war. After dead he’s been given the chance to keep saving life but as a soldier of God, an Angel Warrior. This means that he has to giveaway his soulmate Irene forever and follow the rules bestowed on him by Archangel Michael. This was ok by him until he’s face to face with the woman he left behind. All the feelings that were suppressed come tumbling down on him with mayor force making impossible to stay away. Irene never was the same after her husband and only love died. She buried her sorrow behind work. Never moving forward with her life. That encounter with Bash after his dead will make havoc on her heart and mind making it difficult to keep a normal life.
”I’m here, waiting for you. I’ll be here forever, waiting for you.
This two will have decisions to make that either save their love or doomed them for eternity.
“Sweet Sacrifice” by L.D. Rose is a contemporary paranormal/fantasy romance that is part of ‘The Soul Mate Tree’ series. Widow Irene Lockard has still not gotten past the loss of her heroic SEAL husband who sacrificed his life to save the others on his team. Sebastian “Bash” Lockard is still coming to terms with his role as a newbie archangel but the requirement that he put aside the love and devotion he still has for his wife may be the one thing that he can’t comply with.
I always enjoy stories that highlight military heroes and the twist that includes archangels and an even larger war being conducted made this a fascinating tale for me. I liked the different slant on such things as the manifestation of wings and weapons, and the intense connection between the main characters is lushly romantic although I was definitely puzzled about how things would work out. There are a few things that I’m not quite satisfied with (including the explanation of how Bash is reintegrated into the role he chooses at the end) and wow, what a harsh and ascetic afterlife! Those who are squeamish should be advised that there is a bit of violence depicted with a fair amount of clinical detail. I was captured by the story immediately and loved the gradual revelations. I wasn’t quite sure about the Soul Tree’s involvement with these two except for very brief encounters and I think a lot of things were a bit glossed over but this was still a very fun and entertaining read.
Prior to reading this book, I’d never heard of this author or knew about this series before. Being an avid reader I was coming off a series and looking around for something new to sink my teeth into. I wasn’t sure of the genre, or whether or not I wanted another series or a standalone. Nothing in my current ‘to be read’ pile was calling and I was hankering for something new.
While browsing a forum on a well-known book site hoping for inspiration, I came across a posting “reviewers needed for dark archangel paranormal”. I must admit I didn’t read all the details as the headline had me at ‘dark angel paranormal’. I sent in a request and was pleasantly surprised by the prompt response. Within a couple of hours I had the book open in my e-reader.
So I guess you can say that I ended up with an ARC and no preconceptions.
Former Navy SEAL Sebastian “Bash” Lockard made the ultimate sacrifice and literally went out with a bang (sorry, I couldn’t resist). His reward in the afterlife seems like a punishment. More along the lines of his former profession with more stringent requirements. There are very few friends and pleasures to be found in this ‘heaven’ and Bash is not sure he’s arc material.
It’s been two years since her husband was killed and Irene still mourns Bash’s death. Irene has her job and good friends, yet this cannot fill the emptiness Bash’s demise left. Then an unexpected encounter leaves Irene doubting her sanity.
The main characters are well written and their reactions are very believable. Bash may have broken the rules in accordance with his ‘new life’ in heaven, but what comes across to the reader is an honorable and honest man who is very much still in love with his mortal wife.
What these archangels failed to realize, and may now understand thru Bash is that fighting for a World and a generic population is cold comfort unless you have a face of the person worth fighting for.
All through this story I was wondering if there was ever going to be a happy ending and how it would be achieved as the rules set seemed very rigid and Bash and Irene’s love didn’t have a chance in heaven.
Well written and flawlessly edited. My only problem was in figuring the purpose of the soul mate tree as its ‘help’ was rejected by both protagonists.
You don’t need to read the previous 8 books in this series to enjoy, but it may help in explaining the soul mate tree.
Sweet Sacrifice is a well written book by L. D. Rose. This book is a lovely mix of romance and paranormal covering a navy SEAL turned angel. The plot was intriguing and different from your usual angel story, which is a huge plus in my book. It grabbed my attention from the very first page and drew me into the story of Bash and Irene, which was really the focus of this book more with the paranormal playing the second fiddle, but a very strong one at that. This book really flew by without feeling rushed however, which was very well done in my eyes. It had a few hot and steamy scenes thrown in, so be prepared for those.
Irene was an adorable character and I felt that she was "real" and her emotions were captured how one would feel if something like this would really happen to them, loosing their loved one, finding them again and have them torn from them, leaving out the angel part that is. Bash was a standup character, a man through and through. This is how a man should be in my eyes, strong, true to his word, fight for what is right and for the ones he loves and true to his heart.
This book is heavy in the romance but was just as heavy in the paranormal aspect and even though it covered angels, which is often covered in paranormal books, the author was able to put a new spin on it which was a breath of fresh air to me. I didn't read any of the other soul mate tree books but will pick some of them up in the future since I really enjoyed the writing style of this author and the book in itself.
I have received this book from the author for an honest review. (LoP, Lovers of Paranormal)
Uncaged Review: Sweet Sacrifice is a paranormal romance that will surely tug at your heartstrings. Sebastian “Bash” is a Navy SEAL who makes the ultimate sacrifice to protect his team but also devastates Irene, the love he leaves behind. After enduring countless trials in Purgatory, he is granted entrance into The Sphere, becoming an Arc Angel under the iron fist of their leader, the Arc Angel Michael. Unable to avoid his one true mortal love, Bash finds himself once again having to choose between his heart and his sense of loyalty to his brothers in arms. This is my first time reading this author’s work. She does a fantastic job of showing us the beautiful world of The Sphere in contrast to the human world they visit to battle the evil that dwells there. The love between Bash and Irene is beautifully constructed. Their understanding of one another and the knowledge of one another’s quirks helps you fall in love with their love story. This is a great read and has opened me up to a new author. Reviewed by Rena
Le sigh. So fabulous. I've been a huge fan of LD Rose since I read Releasing the Demons (not related to Sweet Sacrifice.) so it was easy for me to jump on this ARC train in hopes that Sweet Sacrifice would be as good as her other work, and I was pleasantly validated in that thinking.
I don't want to give much away, but this book talks about angels and demons in a lighter tone. I don't read a whole lot of this genre, but Sweet Sacrifice nails it.
And let me tell you, that sacrifice is so, so sweet!
I can't wait for y'all to get your hands on this one! It comes out in September and definitely holds a place in my heart. #TeamBash
This is the first book I've read by this author so I didn't know what to expect when I dove into this story, wow, what a journey I was taken on! The story follows Bash, a navy seal who is killed while in Afghanistan. He becomes an archangel, while coming to terms with his new existence he still remembers and can't forget the life and wife he left behind. Irene is still reeling from the death of her husband, after seeing him one night, she wonders if it was all a dream. Heaven and earth collide in this story, can Bash make it back to Irene? I was sucked straight into this story and read it in one sitting! I really felt for Irene, losing her husband the way she did but she was so strong even after he turns her world upside down by reappearing. Bash shows that true love knows no bounds, he was one hot archangel! This book has mystery, intrigue, romance, a dash of magic and some hot, steamy scenes!! I loved this book from beginning to end, a fantastic read.

This was a heart warming book that tells how strong Love is for your soulmate that even death can't destroy. Sebastian "Bash" Lockard was a Navy SEAL who died protecting his team but who ascended into Heaven to become an Arc Angel when Michael found him in purgatory. Bash never forgot his wife and still loves her and misses her terribly. Instead of following orders he peeks in on his wife and shows himself to her. As time goes on he can't stay away from her and she comes out of her depression. However Bash had a tough decision to make and in the end he chose the love of his life, his wife, his soulmate.
To me this book created a hope that the ones you have list are watching over you every day and are your guardian angels along with the ARC Angels.
Sweet Scrifice by L. D. Rose My first book from L.D. Rose and Im quite interested in this one. I have never read any of her books and I am a sucker for paranormal books and its a romance book? I'm sold. Disclaimer: "I received this book from Goddess Fish Promotions and L.D.Rose for review. Compensation for a honest review!"
”I’m here, waiting for you. I’ll be here forever, waiting for you.”
The emotions that happened within the first chapter alone was wow.. Just wow. Like why did i sign up for this emotional roller coaster where the author is just sitting over there laughing at my misery. She must feed of this?
We are introduced to Bash, Main character, quite quickly where we learn about him as a former Navy SEAL who died in the course of duty and is now working on the side of angels in a war against demons. Furthermore, Navy SEAL romances are considered a trope, a figurative or metaphorical use of a word or expression. However, this is the first one I’ve ever read. I learned that it automatically assumes that the hero is honorable and there will be some violence however I am not big on the navy seal thing but maybe that's because my significant other is Army.
Now we go towards the angels. A lot of people love stories about angels and this howl concept just irked me. I learned that I am not a huge fan of angels in romance stories.. So there is that. Why I’m happy with demons and vampires, but not angels is a mystery for another day. I will point out that this book wasn’t religious in any way, or to my mind, blasphemous, so…. there’s that. Which is good because I do not read anything with religious undertones. I tend to just sit them back down where I found them and pretend I never attempted to read it. Some had passed through to the end but most have not. So i was glad to see this wasn't religious in any way!
Shadows shifted in the brush, and Bash cataloguedevery one. I don’t care what his name is. It won’t matter inten minutes anyway.
The most compelling part was the authors writing style which is why I devoured this book all in one. A mix of paranormal and mundane reality to highlight the magical pieces and romance. It’s a solid love between two normal people, cut short by tragedy. There are surprisingly a lot of love stories that happen like this which is cut short because something happened. What’s especially refreshing is that the couple is already married, so there’s none of the ‘getting to know each other’ stage which I know some people find tedious. This was quite nice because I did not have to go through the "why didn't" and "well why not" stuff that happen when two are trying to understand each other.
The stark reality of grief that Irene lost her husband to war two years ago and she can still barely function, knowing that there are millions of women out there like her that will never see their loved ones again breaks my heart. I know so many women and men we feel this way about the love ones they lost at war or whom went MIA. Its so sad but it’s also the reason I can’t watch war films or documentaries and don’t think I’ll be able to read another soldier romance again!
This was actually a great book from the author and I would highly recommend it for fans of romance, especially paranormal romance, who enjoy a good tearjerker! Like I said I did not care for the angel parts or the navy seal thing but overall the plot and story line was so en-captivating. Sweet Sacrifice receives 4 out of 5 stars for the wonderful writing, intense story line and great descriptions. Thanks L.D.Rose!
The story...After reviewing two of the author's books, she asked me if I wanted to read another one of her stories. When she mentioned angels, I readily agreed.
Irene, is still mourning her husband's death after two years. Former Navy Seal Sebastian Lockhard died in Afghanistan when he leaped onto a grenade to save his comrades. To Irene, the lost and grief are still very alive and fresh. It seemed like it was just yesterday. The pain, sorrow and emptiness are still excruciatingly oozing out of her. It seemed like it will never end. Until, Bash suddenly appears to her. Has she truly gone mad with grief that her mind has finally reach its breaking point?
This is a story of angels, guardian angels, of archangels and the unending war between good and evil. This is also a story of undying love. Love that encompasses death. I love stories about angels. I have always been fascinated by these heavenly beings. I believe in guardian angels. I think there had been a lot of times where I truly felt that I have been under the protection of these beings. They have always been a very curious subject for me. Way back in college, I remember borrowing a few books about them and collecting those cute angel figurines. I even named one of my nephews, Uriel, from one of the archangels.
The story centers on Bash and Irene-- on Bash's life after death. How he came to become one of the archangels and his assignment as a soldier for heaven. His selfless sacrifice as a soldier earned him the honor to become one of God's elite army to maintain balance between good and evil. Bash gladly accepted the new life given to him but he still can't forget the love of his life. His undying love for his wife proved to be a more powerful force than any he has to face. Seeing his wife still tormented by his sudden death is crushing his heart to pieces. He just can't continue to stand and just watch his wife slowly and painstakingly consumed by grief and slowly losing her ardor for life.
The story is very heartbreaking but it ended with redemption and undying love. This story proved that love still rules above everything else. It also speaks of second chances. A chance to continue the life of service to humanity again and a chance to be with the person you love. The story posed a choice between these two things. In the end, love for that other person, the other half of your life, far exceeds the love for service and other things. I love how the story ended and what Bash chose. After all, isn't it what God's love is--unconditional love?
I give this book 4/5 pairs of angel's wings. The story is overflowing with raw and painful emotions. It's as if, I too felt the deep and the harrowing grief and loss that Irene felt. I can feel Bash's longing for Irene. Bash's confusion and doubt over choosing between being God's soldier or to reunite with the love of his life. It is indeed a sweet sacrifice to give up everything, just to be with the person who means more than life, itself.
Like a runaway train without brakes, Irene raced along the tracks of life on the verge of derailment. All she needed was the right push and it was all over. - L. D. Rose, Sweet Sacrifice -
This was such a good read from this new to me author. L.D. Rose did such an amazing job of blending all the elements of romance, suspense, mythology, religion and it kept me wanting to read more and more until my poor eyes just stopped focusing. Then she throws in some paranormal battles, betrayals, danger, with some smokin hot chemistry and a forbidden love, you got a *ding ding ding* WINNER
L.D. Rose is one of my absolute favorite PNR writers. She has an amazing talent when it comes to crafting romantic and adventurous stories with characters that are relatable and unique. Sweet Sacrifice leans more towards the fantasy genre than paranormal with it's unique twist on demons, angels, and the afterlife, but it was expertly crafted in Rose's usual emotional heart wrenching way and I devoured Reen and Bash's story.
I voluntarily received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This was a unique plot. It was different a look at angels and the powers they have (along with the Soul tree that connects these stories). I was hooked on the plot. Being different and refreshing, I had high hopes and the author delivered with the action and the romance. Bash wasn’t the type of angel that he was all prim and proper, he was an archangel that battled for man kind and I loved him for that. Irene was sweet and so understanding even though she thought she was going crazy. I can personally say that I would probably act the same way in her shoes.
The romance aspect was hot and tasteful, yet sad because of what this couple had to go through.. I was begging for this story to go the way I wanted it to and the author didn’t disappoint with the HEA.
The author did an amazing with the plot, I wish that I could have connected more with the characters then I did. I’m going to blame it on my parchment for third point of view, because the writing was there, the characters were great, I just don’t connect with 3rd sometimes. Even though I didn’t connect and it was my first book by her I can say it won’t be my last. I look forward to seeing her other work and giving it a try. 4 Stars. #2OCCJD
