The Barrier Key

Rate this book
Arthur Key had long sought out recognition for his work, and the unexpected invention of an impenetrable barrier seemed to be just the ticket he needed to finally make a name for himself in the annals of history. He might even be the one who finally put an end to all wars, heralded as a hero by the entire world. What he hadn't expected was that the very military he worked for would turn against him, chasing him from his own homeland and forcing him to seek sanctuary in a neighboring country. Left adrift with only his prototype barrier and his ambition, Arthur must take matters into his own hands if he wants to survive and see his vision come into fruition. Whatever choices he makes, however, the future of the Thesolus continent hinges upon his actions. Whether peace or war lies in the future for the nations of Stratos, Edenfall, Movath, Lassia and Teleris rests upon his shoulders now, for better or for worse. But what future awaits for this land may well be influenced by more hands than even Arthur could ever have counted on, and in more ways than any would have suspected...

Born in Washington and raised in Oregon, I moved around a lot in my early years due to my father's ever-changing employment while I was young. I saw much of the greater Portland suburban areas as a result, and didn't settle down into any one place for long until I was about 10. It was at that age that I first took a vested interest in writing, as well as becoming more interested than ever in reading. That was also the age that I vowed to protect my mother from my father, whose mental issues were starting to surface. I didn't word it to them like that, of course, because I didn't want my father to know that I knew something was wrong with him. 10 was a busy age for me.

Life only became more tense after I graduated from high school since I insisted on remaining with my parents to keep that vow, building towards a breaking point. At the tail end of August 2015 that breaking point was reached when my father made an attempt on my mother and my own life. The two of us were forced to flee, and we ended up living on our own away from him. The months of September through December of 2015 were some of the most surreal and unusual in my entire life as a result.
