L.A. Witt

L.A. Witt and her husband have been exiled from Spain and sent to live in Maine because rhymes are fun. She now divides her time between writing, assuring people she is aware that Maine is cold, wondering where to put her next tattoo, and trying to reason with a surly Maine coon. Rumor has it her arch nemesis, Lauren Gallagher, is also somewhere in the wilds of New England, which is why L.A. is also spending a portion of her time training a team of spec ops lobsters.

Authors Ann Gallagher and Lori A. Witt have been asked to assist in lobster training, but they "have books to write" and "need to focus on our careers" and "don't you think this rivalry has gotten a little out of hand?" They're probably just helping Lauren raise her army of squirrels trained to ride moose into battle.

THIS BOOK. THIS BOOK. THIS BOOK, PEOPLE.

HOT DAMN.

This is the ultimate fantasy of meeting a gorgeous stranger at the airport, only to have the rebound, one-night stand turn out to be the love of your life.

WARNING: Reading this story carries a strong risk of wanting to ditch your life and hop on the next place to Maui.

Included:

One laid-back playboy named Derek
One extremely organized, slightly uptight HR director named Elliott
One asshole ex who doesn’t show up for his own wedding and whose name is totally fucking irrelevant
One delayed flight
One infinity pool
Lots and lots of steamy lovin’
Several beaches (sex optional but recommended)
KISSING!
KISSING!!
KISSING!!!
A VERY sparkly happy ever-after

This was originally published as three novellas, but clearly this is one novel that should be read breathlessly without pausing to sleep or eat.

There are three parts, the first two from Elliott’s first-person POV, the last from Derek’s first-person POV. I couldn’t get enough of these two together! I heart L.A. Witt for making me grin so hard, my face hurt.

Highly recommended if you want something low on the angst but with plenty of realistic dialogue, relationship development, and passion.

WARNING: Clicking on this spoiler tag will cause overt horniness and immediate desire to frot; do not view in office environment.

Two weeks with Derek. The fellow passenger I'd met yesterday after a snowstorm stranded us in the terminal. The man with whom I'd spent last night in a passionate, insatiable embrace. The man with whom I'd be spending the vacation that would have been my honeymoon...

This book was absolute joyous escapism! A pure romantic fantasy of meeting a stranger at the airport and finding your world turned upside down by an unexplainable connection.

What started as a vacation for jilted groom Elliot, turned into an adventure of a lifetime. A great conversation with fellow stranded passenger Derek turned into a passionate night of steamy sexiness and to two life-changing, unforgettable weeks in Maui.

Two days ago, I was someone's fiance. Last night, I was someone's one-night stand. Today, I didn't know who the hell I was. Maybe over the next two weeks, I'd figure it out.

The connection these two had was palpable. Right from the beginning there was an ease to Elliot and Derek...their conversations were organic and honest and heartfelt, with a constant awareness of their attraction. There was always an undercurrent of lust simmering below the surface. And let me tell you...this book was HOT!! The sex was scorching!

But...I've never read a book that could completely satisfy the smut slut in me with just kissing....but man, oh man...these two did kissing good! There was so much passion behind each and every touch that it didn't feel like the opening number to the main act or the appetizer before the meal....it was every bit as satisfying as a decadent dessert or that final encore. Every kiss brought Elliot and Derek closer together and deepened what was growing between them...

I couldn't get my head around it all. It didn't make sense that we'd ever been strangers, never mind so recently. We were too intimate. Too close. My body reacted too strongly to him...

But what happens at the end of two weeks when the sun has set and the adventure is over? Can Derek and Elliot find a way to keep what they have going? Have two strangers at the airport found a love of a lifetime?

I LOVED this book! Everything about it drew you into the story. From a chance encounter at an airport (who hasn't looked around while sitting at a terminal and wondered or made great conversation with a cute stranger on a plane) to a hot and steamy one-night stand, tons of great conversation and a sexy spontaneous adventure on a Hawaiian island.

And let me tell you, having Maui as the setting added such a whimsical feel to the romance. Reading about Elliot and Derek hiking on lush trails to reach gorgeous waterfalls where they would continue getting to know each other...

That's just a pure exotic, dreamlike fantasy come true! And that's exactly what this whole book felt like. A sweet, sexy, low angst dream. The PERFECT beach reach, summer read, let-me-get-away-from-my-life-for-a-second read.

Unfortunately, an unnecessary wrench is thrown into this dream towards the end with Derek's family. I felt the drama was unnecessary. It didn't suit the feel of this book and felt very out of place with the overall vibe. Frankly, it felt manufactured for the sake of drama...which this book definitely did not need. Without that, this would have easily been a five star read for me.

But even that little bit isn't enough to take away the romantic fantasy of this great read.

So now if you'll excuse me, I have a cab to catch to the airport....

Changing Plans is a fun, flirty and ultimately romantic tale of a one-night stand that turns into a forever kind of love.

When Elliott Chandler gets dumped at the altar he decides to do the unexpected and take his honeymoon alone. At the airport he meets sweet and sexy Derek, who befriends Elliott and quickly charms his pants off (literally). Living a very structured, predictable life, Elliott decides to shake things up by throwing caution to the wind and agreeing to follow Derek back to his home in Maui, Hawaii, for two weeks of fun and no strings attached sex.

Derek is a self-made business success and a self-declared bachelor for life, but as he gets to know Elliott better and they continue to share an amazing chemistry, both inside and outside of the bedroom, Derek begins to question his no relationships policy.

Elliott and Derek were equally sweet and smokin' hot together. I enjoyed the progression of their relationship, even if it technically moved at lightning speed.

Initially this book was broken into three separate novellas, made up of Getting off the Ground, Infinity Pools and On The List. I definitely appreciated being able to read this as one whole book, otherwise I would have been left hanging and dying for more.

The first two parts were fun and wildly sexy, showing how these two men meet and fall into a passionate affair that eventually leads to realisation and acceptance of a new love they both desperately want to keep. The final part was set a year or so later and was substantially more dramalicious, .

Thankfully, this has been my favourite L.A. Witt story to date. Yippee!!!

Audio Edition:
I whisper-synced the shit out of this one. Charlie David narrates and does a lovely job. I must say, this has been one of my better experiences with an M/M audio, as I tend to avoid audios of an M/M variety because me and a few of the most popular narrators (I won't name names) just do not mesh. Thankfully, I feel like Charlie David could have the potential to be a trusty go-to should I ever wish to sample more of his work.

I want to kiss your cheeks, L.A. Witt, for giving me the most adorable, angst-free, fluffy beach read to kick off my summer! It was pure sweetness, through and through, with one of the most irresistible themes, the reformed rake.

Hot sex, leis and lays, delicious food, pristine beaches, and Maui- sounds exactly like my honeymoon!

but much gayer...

Who knew being stranded at an airport could be this lucky for Elliott and Derek.

Elliott is going away to Hawaii on what should have been his honeymoon he is escaping real life for two weeks, weather permitting.

Derek is going home after being in Seattle on business but thanks to the weather ends up being stranded at the airport.

Two strangers sitting near each other start talking and end up going to a hotel together spending one hot night together. In the morning Derek asks Elliott to come and spend the two weeks with him at his home.

Will two weeks be enough for them?
What happens when the holiday comes to an end?
Do they have a future together with an ocean separating them?

I loved Elliott and Derek they compliment each other perfectly Elliott is a compulsive planner and Derek is the laid back one, they're conversations are heartfelt and honest and the sex is HOT but the kissing is even HOTTER.

This is a lovely romantic story between two great guys with lots of steam and some drama thrown in.

I loved all the descriptions of all the places the waterfalls, all the beaches and sunsets so relaxing.

This was a perfect vacation read for me. Hot and fun opposites attract story set in the tropical paradise of Hawaii. Organized, list making Elliot on his way to Hawaii for his honeymoon trip, alone, since being stood up at the altar meets laid back, charming Derek, on his way home to Maui. As more things conspire against Elliot's well crafted plans, he decides to take a chance and change his plans to spend his two week vacation with Elliot.

I enjoyed the connection the two had in and out of bed, their banter and their more personal conversations. Derek is a challenge to Elliot's well controlled life and Elliot is a challenge to Derek's "bachelor for life" status. After the first two parts of the story are told from Elliot's POV, the third switches to Derek, with a little bit more of an emotional turn, which I thought worked well . Definitely recommended.

Short, sweet, and sexy, with a light dose of family dramarama at the end that brings the feels. It is the perfect book to read while lying on a beach somewhere (or while wishing that you were lying on a beach somewhere). And GOOD LORD can Witt write a kissing scene that makes my heart do predictable, girlie, mushy things!

Elliott is a planner. Everything requires lists and carefully laid out plans. When his fiancé stands him up at the alter, Elliott decides to be a little reckless and go on his honeymoon to Hawaii on his own. He even leaves his itinerary at home. His reckless to-do list includes canceling a dinner reservation and having sex with a stranger. While stranded at the airport due to bad weather he meets the sexy and laid-back Derek. The two hit it off and decide to spend this trip together. They spend the next two weeks getting to know each other, hiking, taking walks on the beach and having LOTS and LOTS of sex.

I’m sure this is 100% a me thing and not the book being bad, everyone else seemed to love it.
I made it to 10% before I gave up. It starts off with one MC getting left at the alter after a 6 year relationship and the other MC avoids relationships and he talks about why it’s not worth the trouble.

I’m not a fan of MCs who avoid relationships, I prefer reading stories where both MCs are looking for love🥰 cos I’m a sap. I believe this story also starts off with just sex then feelings and I prefer it to be the other way around. ANYWAYS, this wasn’t for me- maybe I’ll give it a try again if I’m in the mood for something like this but atm I think I’ll stick to stories that feature more emotional attachments ~

Sigh 😮‍💨 another book that makes me want to go to Hawaii knowing that I can’t.

This was a good palate cleanser. Even though the entire timeline of their relationship unfolds over two weeks, Elliot and Derek’s transition from strangers to sort-of friends with benefits to lovers that are actually in love felt organic and, dare I say, believable.

I appreciated that there was no absurd miscommunication or unnecessary drama just for the sake of it, just good vibes overall.

And this might be a bit spoilery, but honestly, fuck Derek’s family. I would never forgive them if I were him.

I am not usually a fan of insta-love, but it totally worked here. What a great story! Elliott is stood up at the altar, but decides to go on the honeymoon anyway. At the airport, he meets manwhore Derek who doesn’t believe in love or relationships. And so begins a two-week whirlwind romance in Hawaii. And lots of hot steamy sex. I mean lots. Sooooo good! Thanks to Jen for recommending this one to me :)

Changing Plans is a hot and fluffy romance with lots of kissing. When Derek and Elliot are making out you just feeeeeeel their chemistry! Best kiss scenes ever!
His touch was undeniably Derek, and his kiss, oh, God, his kiss. I doubted any other man on the face of the earth kissed the way he did. I'd certainly never met one who knew just how to coax my lips apart with the tip of his tongue. Or one who could be so demanding and so gentle at the same time. What he did with his mouth was unbelievable

Lori Witt did a wonderful job of conveying the heart and soul of these two guys, and when the heat turns up, it gets damn hot! I absolutely loved the chemistry between Derek and Elliot, it’s palpable, it sizzles and there's no doubt that these two belong together. They are so in tune with each other, it just was wonderful to watch them.

Overall, this book is a beautiful romance with a nice dose of sweetness and hot sex. It’s cute and lovely and just good. Recommended!

L.A. Witt did it again: another fabulously written story that took us on a wonderful journey with her two MCs.

Elliot, after being stood up at the altar, decides to go on his honeymoon to Hawaii by himself, and while stranded at the airport during a storm, he meets Derek. After spending one night together, Derek invites Elliot to stay with him during his whole time in Hawaii. Their time together ultimately leads to them falling in love.

This was a very tender, emotional story that had me wanting to tear up in a few places with a wonderful ending. Elliot, after being jilted at the altar, never expected to fall for the first guy who he is attracted to after his failed relationship. Derek, someone who has vowed to be a "perma-bachelor," never expected to fall for anyone, let alone the jaded, slightly neurotic man he meets at an airport. These men are opposites who find the love of their lives in the most unexpected place and who really make you feel for them. I strongly recommend this book if you want a touching, heart-warming with the right dash of angst, and of course, sizzlin' action (this is L.A. Witt after all!).

Sigh...I really loved this book. It was like love at first sight, like a beautiful fairy tale , like a twist of fate. Such a beautiful romance. Just loved it. So glad I was able to read the entire story as one book. I would have died had I had to wait. Two beautiful men finding each other in a chance encounter and really, just Changing Plans. Read.

Originally released as three novellas—Getting Off the Ground, Infinity Pools, and On the List—this collection brings those all together and I’m actually very glad I was able to read and listen to this as one complete story. Given where the first two novellas ended, it would have driven me nuts to have to wait to read the next one each time as I loved this story of starting over and finding “the one”.

I found it easy to identify with Elliott—not from the left-at-the-altar aspect, but from the point of having to start over, and learning to take a chance. As for Derek, I always love a “player finds ‘the one’” trope, and boy was it tremendously satisfying to watch as Derek fell for Elliott. The circumstances that bring them together, and the way Elliott decides to go off his carefully scripted life made for such a good read, and I did not want to put this book down…or take off my headphones.

It’s become almost cliché to say a couple has chemistry that’s off the charts, or scorching hot, or any one of a number of similar phrases. Elliott and Derek? You can take all those phrases and just obliterate them with what they have together. And their wanting of each other is so persistent the also overused phrase of ****ing like bunnies would be quite appropriate…though even as intensely passionate and physical as they are, I only found that borderline gratuitous as opposed to over the top. Why? Because those scenes demonstrated how much they wanted each other and led to a deeper emotional connection, and even when they would purposely try to do things apart they were still drawn back to each other. The fact that the author can write these scenes so well doesn’t hurt either (and oh the kissing…*sigh*).

The first two novellas take place in Hawaii, and even with all of the physical scenes there is still plenty of story time devoted to enticing descriptions of the islands—so well done that I find myself wanting to rearrange my budget for a trip. It was easy for me to picture those scenes and see in my mind the beauty of the locations, especially since the first two parts are told from Elliott’s point of view, and it’s his first trip there.

The third novella is told from Derek’s point of view, and I was so glad to finally be able to hear his thoughts. With the conflict that arises with his family in this final part of the story, hearing his side of things helped to give the story another injection of emotion and introduce just that one bit of worry to keep things fresh and my attention fully attuned.

This collection is one of my favorite reads from this author, and easily gets a 5-star rating from me. The only thing that bugged me was the sudden change with Derek’s family at the very end as given the time frame it didn’t really ring true for me. But even that was not enough for me to waver in my rating…that’s how much I truly enjoyed the overall collection. As I’m sure you’ve already guessed, this one’s for readers/listeners 18+ for adult language and copious amounts of explicit, holy-hell-that’s-hot sexual content.

The narration: I’m already a fan of Charlie David’s deep, soothing voice and have enjoyed the other audiobooks he’s done. But I can honestly say that of all the ones I’ve listened to that he’s narrated, this one is my favorite. He has a smooth, even pace, and so accurately voices the character’s emotions that you feel like you’re right in the middle of the story yourself, particularly when it comes to those physically intimate scenes. This is definitely one story collection where I will always go for the audio version before the ebook version when it comes to future re-reads (well, re-listens). 5 stars for the narration!

A Joyfully Jay review.

4 stars

Changing Plans is a three-book series first published back in 2011. Author L.A. Witt has now republished the series, offering it in both ebook and audio formats. You can purchase the books individually in either format, as well as in a three-book set. The series follows the same couple throughout, however, so while you could probably read the first as a standalone, reading the whole series is definitely the way to go.

I listened to Changing Plans as a set and while the books are combined into one audio, they are still presented as three individual books with an introduction at the start of each and credits at the end, along with lead in and lead out music. I enjoyed being able to listen to it all together in this format, rather than getting the three books separately. And they definitely fit well together as they focus on the men meeting, falling for one another, and getting married, respectively. But it was also a bit jarring at times not to have it be one fluid story, especially as information was recapped from one book to the next.

Read Jay’s review in its entirety here.

Nice romance of a jilted groom finding love on what was supposed to be his honeymoon. Lovely setting too - you can't really go wrong with Maui and Molokai!

As an aside, these days I've generally very skeptical of romances where one of the MCs is wealthy, good-looking and very sporty/ adventurous (in this case, Derek snowboards, scuba dives, sky dives, etc.). First, I know a lot of guys like this and, face it, a lot of them are jerks! On the other hand, if the guy's got all of this going for him and he's not a jerk … well then he's going to have countless other guys falling for him all of the time. The one who ends up catching him? Usually has got to have something very special/unique going for him.

In this case, most of the book is from Elliott's perspective and, partly because of that, I had a hard time seeing what Derek saw in Elliott. Don't get me wrong. Elliott's a nice guy … but … I just felt like I needed a bit more to understand why Derek would have fallen for him after a lifetime of never wanting a long-term relationship. The result: this was probably a 3.5 star book until about 75% at which point we finally did see Derek's POV. This brought the book closer to 4 stars as I started to better understand why Derek would have fallen for Elliott.

Overall, an enjoyable read.

This is exactly what it promised to be! Fun, sexy, leave-your-problems at the door, and enjoy the summer fantasy! Derek and Elliot meet at the airport on their way to Hawaii. Derek is going home. Elliot is throwing caution to the wind and going to his honeymoon, alone.

This was originally 3 books but I got the compact version. The first part was fantastic! Humour, sex, adventures, Maui, need I say more? I was so sure it was going to be a 4-4.5 star read. Then...the second part was okay, but more of the same, with a few parts that were really touching. The third one really plateaued. It was like a gradual decline so it didn't frustrate me or anything. It's kind of like when you go on vacation and you're all pumped and excited the first few days, then you settle, and by the end you're sort of exhausted and just want to go home? Yeah, I think I would be a happier camper if the story had ended before the epilogue in the second part but I enjoyed it overall. Definitely recommend this if you want to escape to a beautiful island for a summer holiday!

This audiobook release contains all three books in the Changing Plans series: Getting off the Ground, Infinity Pools, and On The List. Charlie David does a nice job on the narration, however, he did not make the two MCs voices very distinctive so one has to listen to the content to be able to determine who is speaking when there are no dialogue tags. This makes for a bit of confusion, though the stories are each short and not terribly complex, so they are easy to follow.

In Getting off the Ground, Elliot Chandler meets a sexy fellow traveler as they await their flight in what seems as if it’s going to be a snowed-in airport. Elliot is heading to Hawaii to go on his honeymoon—alone. Having been stood up at the altar, he decides to follow-through on his vacation plans—plans being the operative word. Elliot is a compulsive over-planner, always planning everything in his life out to the nth degree. So when his fiancé decides not to show at the altar, Elliot is going to take advantage of all the planning he did. Unfortunately, he didn’t plan for the snowstorm.

When the cute guy across the aisle, clad only in a Hawaiian-print shirt and no coat, engages him in conversation, the two hit it off immediately. By the time the flight is canceled, Elliot offers to share his hotel room with the stranger, Derek. Of course, Elliot has a room booked. As soon as he realized the flight might be canceled, he planned ahead and booked a room. The two fall into bed, literally and frequently, and Derek eventually convinces Elliot he should change his plans to tour Oahu and come with Derek to Maui instead. What looked to be an impossible feat happens and we end book one and begin book two, Infinity Pools—something Derek has at his home. Derek made his money in the dot com days and he and his partners are still involved in buying and selling IT businesses, app development, etc.

Book two, Infinity Pools, is pretty much all sex with a bit of sightseeing thrown in. Honestly, it’s original LA Witt at her finest, but I’m pretty much past the point where sex is interesting for 75% of the book, so I was happy to see book two end, with the two lovebirds committed to each other, even though they’ve only known one another for a few weeks. So as book three opens, we find out that their long-distance relationship is still strong, and in fact, they have plans to get married.

The last book, On The List, involves some family-of-origin issues, mostly on Derek’s part, and the two men committing to each other no matter what life brings. Bottom line, this is an eight-hour audiobook that has a sweet romance, a lot of sex, and some nice Hawaiian scenery. It would be a great book to listen to while lying on a beach or passing time on any vacation, including a flight to Hawaii.
